First official still of Matthew Lewis as Hugh Hulton in All Creatures Great and Small | Playground Television (UK). Photographer: Ed Miller.
In a press release, Matthew talks about his involvement in the show.
“When I received the script for the make-up artist on the film (Baby Done) I was working on in New Zealand talked to me about the series because my accent reminded her of it. As well as being an institution in the UK, it was hugely popular in the Commonwealth.
So I was very much aware of its popularity and I do recall when it was announced that they were doing a new series of it my dad said ‘Oh, you should try and get involved in that!’
Little did I know just how charming, funny and endearing James Herriot’s world really is.”
He also revealed some details about his character Hugh Hulton, a rich landlord who is romantically involved with Helen Alderson (played by Rachel Shenton).
“Hugh comes from a place of wealth and he is the landowner in this area of the Dales, so a lot of the farmers, particularly Helen, rent his land.
There’s a degree of deference from the rest of the population of Darrowby. When Hugh walks into the pub people immediately know who he is, and he’s served at the bar immediately! But he’s also very close to these people, very warm and approachable and he’s not the kind of standoffish idea of the lord of the manor who looks down on people with disdain.”
Matthew also revealed what inspired his Hugh Hulton voice.
“With Hugh the key thing was the voice, what he sounded like. I felt like I kind of knew who he was and I knew his perspective on things, because the writing was so good, the characters are there for you to slip into.
The way he speaks is very different from a lot of the people in the show. I wanted to make sure I captured that and a lot of those accents in Blackadder Goes Forth gave me inspiration.”

Take a look at the official poster for Baby, Done starring Matthew Lewis and Rose Matafeo!
Deadline announced last year that Matthew and Rose will be leading the comedy film. Written by Sophie Henderson and directed by Curtis Vowell, Baby, Done is a “semi-autobiographical story inspired by her and Vowell’s own reaction to starting a family”.
“Sophie and I are over the moon to be working with Rose and Matthew — they’re hilarious together and their chemistry is electric. We’re already having a lot of fun making it and can’t wait to deliver it to the world,” Vowell said.
Rose plays Zoe, a tree surgeon who becomes pregnant by her longterm boyfriend Tim (played by Matthew) and subsequently freaks out as she tries to rush through her dreams before she turns into a mother.
On his involvement with the film, Matthew says, “I fell in love with the script immediately and the team of creatives behind it. I’m also a big fan of Rose and her work and so to be opposite her shooting in beautiful New Zealand is a privilege and I’m looking forward to bringing this story to life.”
Filming took place in Auckland, New Zealand and wrapped in April 2019. Baby, Done is produced by Morgan Waru, with Taika Waititi and Carthew Neal executive producing for Piki Films.
Baby, Done is set to release in New Zealand and Australia in 2020. No official word yet on when the film will be released in other countries.

Earlier this year, Matthew Lewis sat down with Chris O'Connor and Leeds Rhinos’ Stevie Ward for a new episode of Mantality Magazine’s podcast.
In Episode #035, we were joined by actor Matt Lewis. Matt is most famous for playing Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter films. He is a true Yorkshire lad and rugby league fanatic, supporting Leeds Rhinos. We get deep with Matt on a range of topics such as his acting career, being famous from a young age, his mindset, his experience with therapy, and some anecdotes from stag do’s with the Leeds Rhinos players. This was a really interesting conversation and a chance to see another, more personal side to one of the familiar faces many of us have grown up with.

Mantality launched a clothing line December last year to promote mental health awareness and will be donating 25% of their profits to offer immediate psychological support to young people who need it. You can check out them here.
Matthew was previously interviewed by Stevie when Mantality first launched back in 2016. You may watch the two-part interview here if you’ve missed it.

AccioMDL is still on hiatus but we just want to share Leed Rhinos’ Adam Cuthbertson’s newly launched podcast The Lockdown. The first episode debuts with a video call with Matthew Lewis talking the current Covid-19 pandemic, their careers, Leeds United and more.
Matthew: “One of the things that you get here is you've got to bear in mind as well that all of those people at the top, you know, whether it's your senators, your congressmen and CEOs that want to keep [inaudible] — they've all got very very good healthcare. But I think it's something like 26 million Americans are uninsured. 26 million Americans do not have access to healthcare.”
Matthew revealed he’s currently in self-quarantine after being in contact with someone showing mild symptoms.
Matthew: “The longer we don't do the social distancing, the longer period this will go on for whereas the quicker we all do it, as shit as it is, the quicker we get to go back to normal. The quicker Rhinos get to play on Friday night again, the quicker Leeds United could get promoted. The quicker we all do this, the quicker you can get that paycheck again.”
They also talked about the possibility of a movie being made in the future about the pandemic and if Matthew would audition for the leading part.
Adam: If there was by any chance a movie made about the situation, would you consider auditioning for the lead role? Matthew: Yeah, of course. Who's making it? Is it you? Have you written it?
However, in mind, the lead role will be playing either be Boris Johnson or [inaudible]. Would you still consider that role? Yeah, that's an Oscar waiting to happen.
Maybe not now but probably will one day because they do that about every global epidemic don't they? I can't think of anything worse than a two-hour movie where the lead character is Boris Johnson.
Matthew also talked about Channel 5 TV adaptation of All Creatures Great and Small which he is a part of. The series is set to premiere in September according to Matthew although premiere date may be delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In the podcast, Matthew revealed he had to postponed recording ADR for the series due to his self-quarantine.
Matthew: “It's gonna be on Channel 5 in the UK which is for me is quite unusual but they've invested very heavily in drama and I think they've really gone about this the right way so I'm quite excited for Channel 5 to move into this new area which is not something that they've historically been a player in. It's a straight remake. It's set in 1937, it's heavily based around the books.”
We hope everyone is doing their part to be socially responsible so we can flatten the curve. Practice good personal hygiene, shop responsibly, wear a mask if you’re sick & see a doctor etc. If your country is in lockdown, don’t go out unless absolutely necessary and do practice social distancing if you go out. Most importantly, if you have been issued a quarantine or stay-at-home notice, please comply with all the instructions.
Follow the measures your country’s officials have implemented. Do not listen to and/or share unverified news. Also, please don’t be rude to healthcare professionals, grocers and all other essential workers. Be a responsible human being by taking care of one another.
Stay safe everyone.

Matthew Lewis Joins Channel 5 Adaptation of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’
Matthew Lewis is joining Nicholas Ralph, Anna Madeley, Samuel West, Rachel Shenton and Diana Rigg in Channel 5 TV adaptation of All Creatures Great and Small.
All Creatures Great and Small is based by the books written by James Alfred Wight under the pen name, James Herriot. His stories are based on his life and adventures working as a veterinarian in Yorkshire Dales in the 1930s.
The stories were first adapted into a popular 90-episode TV series which ran on BBC One between 1978 and 1990.
“When it originally aired on public broadcasting, All Creatures Great and Small captured the hearts of millions of television viewers. We promise that the new series will have all the wit, warmth, and quirky charm of the original – and of course, lots of irresistible animals,” says Rebecca Eaton, Executive Producer of Masterpiece.
The new adaptation will be a six-part series (including a Christmas special) by production company Playground Entertaiment. It is produced by Richard Burrell (New Tricks, Silent Witness), with Ben Vanstone (The Last Kingdom) as lead writer and Executive Producer, as well as Brian Percival (Downton Abbey) as lead director. Masterpiece on PBS will co-produce and All3Media is the international distributor.
Nicholas Ralph is leading the series as James Herriot, Rachel Shenton plays Helen Alderson, and Matthew will be playing a rich landlord named Hugh Hulton, who will also be a rival to James for Helen’s affections . All Creatures Great and Small is set to premiere sometime this year in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the original publication of the books.

Matthew Lewis Executive Producing Lee Hunter’s Short Film 'On My Own'
Tumblr media
Matthew Lewis will be taking the role of an executive producer for the first time for a new short film On My Own. Written by and starring Lee Hunter, On My Own is "a dark, emotional roller coaster of two men found hiding, left facing life quite literally on the edge".
Every day Terry works on the same old rooftop... Every day he looks out at St Paul's Cathedral (survived the war, miraculously) and the serene, surrounding London skyline... And EVERY BLOODY DAY he scrapes up smatterings of relentless London pigeon shit. Today though, somebody is blocking the view (not a pigeon). Can Terry help Colin? Can he help himself?
Matthew's brother, Anthony will be playing Colin. The eldest of the Lewis brothers, Chris, will be editing the short directed by Kristian Young. Burning Reel will oversee the production. Originally a play, the filmmakers wish to bring On My Own to a bigger audience to raise awareness and reduce the stigmas surrounding mental illness, especially among men under 40.
A huge factor, (Lee believes) why men in his age bracket are so highly affected, is due to blokes' inability to discuss difficult and emotional issues that inevitably lead us to stare that dreaded ‘black dog’ in the face. This piece tries to address that through a comical journey of man to man awkwardness, childhood nostalgia, a touch of honesty and finally a big, old hug. Our aim is to open up discussions and get people talking.
An Indiegogo campaign has been set up to raise funds to produce the short film. On My Own still needs about £7,000 to reach their £13,000 goal. You may support the short film by making a donation here. The campaign will end in less than a week. If you are not able to support them financially, you may help by sharing the link on your social media.
You can follow more updates on their Indiegogo page or Twitter @OnMyOwnFilm.
