A special Easter treat for all Chicken Run fans. Since my earlier Easter post had Disney characters dressed like bunnies, one main animal for this joyous day, this new Easter post will focus on another main animal for this day - the chick. So here we have some of Molly’s baby pictures - when she was the most adorable chick with a mind of her own.

Camouflaged Chickens
Throughout the night, the chickens worked hard to make themselves invisible to the human eye. They wove together branches, leaves and twigs into small screens, which Babs then knitted together to make one giant screen. Mac, meanwhile, organized a system of pulleys to move it around. On Ginger's command, the chickens shifted the screen into the best possible position. By the time the sun had come up, the whole island was camouflaged. The humans would never spot them now!
Tumblr media
Ginger looked at their work with satisfaction along with Mac, Babs and Bunty. She tells her best friends that all they have to do now is keep quiet and not draw attention to themselves. But no sooner had our island queen gotten those words out of her beak, the girls hear the sound of Rocky crowing in the middle of the village, standing on his special spot - a little tree stump. Some of the chickens close their windows and doors to take cover in case any humans hear this crowing. Remember how Fowler used to crow in the morning at Tweedy's Farm? Now that our old sausage is no longer the leading rooster, Rocky has taken over the crowing - and he loves it! Our island king does a few stretches and prepares to crow again. However, after drawing a big breath and before he could even get one crow out, Ginger stops him.
Tumblr media
Does anyone else but me think that the face Rocky makes right here is both cute and funny? 🥰😂
Tumblr media
Ginger tells her husband that under the circumstances of their new situation, maybe it would be best if he didn't crow anymore. Shocked, Rocky lets the air out in a coughing fit. He does a double take, telling his wife that he can't give up crowing since that's his thing which he loves to do. Ginger then suggests that he could do a different thing - a quieter one. Then our island king and queen hear their little princess behind them, astonished by the huge leafy screen that was just constructed the night before. Ginger rushes over to Molly, shouting to her daughter to get away from it, leaving Rocky behind.
Tumblr media
Rocky starts to follow his wife to get them to talk about the whole crowing thing when he hears Fowler's voice, but there's no sign of the old rooster anywhere. Our old sausage then pops out from a hedge, startling Rocky and causing him to jump back. Fowler tells the younger rooster, "Careless squawks cost lives," which is why they have to lie low. He also adds that he's running a camouflage lesson at noon - but only if anyone can find him. Then he disappears back into his hedge and slinks off into the village, but not before bumping into a small tree. Maybe it was for the best that Fowler retired from being leading rooster. Rocky looks on with a confused look on his face before he looks back to his wife and daughter on the hill where the screen is.
Tumblr media
Molly questions her mother about the purpose of the leafy screen and then she lifts the screen up over her head to get a better look. That's when Molly sees a Fun-Land Farms truck in the distance, trundling along the new road; her eyes grew wide with excitement. Then she turns back to her mom telling her about the truck with the picture she just saw - a chicken sitting in a bucket doing a thumbs-up gesture. Molly thinks it's funny but obviously not Ginger, who firmly tells her daughter it's time to go home, leaving Molly still curious about the truck. As the girls walk back home, Molly asks her mom some questions which Ginger tries to ignore: "Where are they going? Can we go with them? It looks like a lot of fun!" Finally to appease her daughter's curiosity, Ginger just simply tells Molly that she's just not ready to leave the island. Does anyone else but me think that this conversation is not going to end well? 😳
Tumblr media
Our island queen then calls to her husband to help with this conversation, thinking maybe Rocky can give her a hand with parenting at this point. Clearly he's not going to be much help now because he's still stuck on the whole crowing thing; he suggests that maybe he could crow on weekends. Ginger is stunned by this but snaps out of it when Molly continues with their earlier conversation. Our island princess reminds her mom that she's always been a big, brave girl so maybe she is ready to leave the island. Ginger, meanwhile, also reminds her daughter that she's still a child. Molly doesn't seem to think so though; she frowns and asks her mom who says that. Ginger replies to her daughter, "Says me and your dad" and then gets Rocky to chime in.
Tumblr media
Our island king, meanwhile, was still thinking about his crowing but was listening just enough to agree with his wife (possibly just to make her happy). He tells Molly to listen to her mother and then makes more suggestions to Ginger about the crowing. Maybe he could do half a crow like a COCKA or a DOODLE-DO, something that's a little shorter. Seriously? 🤦🏼‍♀️ However, Ginger just ignores her husband about it; there's just no changing her mind about her decision. As the Rhodes family reached their home, Molly turns to face her mother. Our bold young princess says she's going over to see those trucks because she is a Lone Free Ranger like her father was. She admits that she's seen Rocky's poster and informs her parents that she knows that they used to live over on the mainland.
Tumblr media
Throughout this whole confrontation, both Rocky and Ginger looked shocked. Once Molly mentioned the poster, Ginger looks to Rocky who looks away, obviously guilty. Then after Molly mentions their past life on the mainland, Ginger is even more shocked and then gets furious. She had told Rocky not to tell Molly stories about his past for this exact reason! Looks like Rocky is in the doghouse now. Those stories he told his daughter last night is now coming back to haunt him. Ginger will deal with Rocky later but right now, she snaps at Molly, saying that she's NOT leaving the island. Molly gets angry too, telling Ginger that she can't make her stay on the island and adds that she's not Molly's boss. Ginger corrects her that technically she is the boss of Molly since she is her mother. Our island queen calms herself just enough to tell Molly that she's got everything she could ever want on the island. Molly, still angry, replies that she doesn't have one thing - freedom. She just doesn't understand why her mother always treated her like a baby. Why couldn't her mother trust her to make her own choices the way her father does?
Tumblr media
Molly's angry reply of having no freedom left Ginger surprised. Both she and Rocky just watched as their daughter stormed off into the house and slammed the door with a loud BANG! I was right; the conversation ended very badly. 😔 Rocky had watched the whole mother/daughter argument with a wince. Ginger hated how things between her and Molly soured over this; everything she did was to protect not only her friends but her family as well, and yet so far all it's done is make her daughter really upset. Maybe she didn't do the right thing by hiding the island after all. Yet it wasn't until Rocky commented that Molly is a lot like her mother that Ginger started to believe that she was doing the right thing because she remembered how she used to be. Now that Ginger knows that Molly is definitely her mother's daughter, that starts to worry our poor island queen all the more.
Tumblr media
Remember how I said that I hope that Ginger’s decision to hide from the humans was a good idea? Well obviously, it wasn’t. Yes it does help the chickens feel safe but all it’s done so far is make Molly more curious about the mainland, even more after the story her father told her the night before. Usually when Molly tries to talk to her mom about this subject, Ginger just tries to avoid it. But this time, when she tries to talk to Ginger again, mother and daughter have a heated argument leading up to Molly angrily admitting she feels that she has no freedom. That leaves Ginger shocked with this reveal and dismayed after Rocky comments that Molly is truly her mother’s daughter. However, Ginger’s going to feel a lot worse as the story continues.

The Surprising Meeting
Over time, the new road was constructed and completed. When the road was done and vehicles were allowed to drive on it, that meant it was time for a stake-out. Ginger, Bunty and Mac were on the beach trying to see what was happening on the mainland. Mac gloomily states that it was only a matter of time before the humans showed up. Somehow she must have known that the safety they've felt for so long wouldn't last for long. Mac and Ginger looked through binoculars to get a closer look, just like they did back on Tweedy's Farm. As they peered through the binoculars, they see a large truck wound its way along the new road. It had a colorful logo on the side that said FUN-LAND FARMS. There was a picture of a happy-looking chicken sitting in a bucket, doing a happy 'thumbs-up' sign. There was also the sound of clucking birds coming from inside the truck.
Tumblr media
Ginger frowned at the sight and the sound, believing that humans are taking chickens to some kind of chicken farm. That's when our island queen lowered the binoculars and got a serious look on her face. Bunty starts to worry, saying that she hasn't seen that particular look in a long while. She tries to tell her friend that she can't right all the world's wrongs. However, this apparently falls on deaf ears because Ginger states that there will be a meeting tonight and to spread the word. Then she heads back to the village. Bunty looks at Mac; she knew Ginger very well and she knew that her friend would stop at nothing to fight back against any humans who threatened them. Our muscle-bound hen says what we can all agree from this, "Here we go again." 😏
Tumblr media
The meeting was arranged for the town hall that very night and Molly could see from her bedroom window that all the chickens were gathering at that very moment. Our island princess goes downstairs to see Ginger getting herself ready to go to the meeting. She asks her mother some pretty serious questions like, "What's going on?", "Why can't I go up my tree anymore?", and "What's this meeting about?" Ginger tries very hard to think about something to tell her daughter. Then she comes up with an excuse that there's some quite big wasps up the tree this year; Molly looks at her mother in disbelief.
Tumblr media
Ginger also tells Molly that she needs her to stay home and look after her father. Both island queen and princess turn to see Rocky trying to swat a moth away from their hanging light, but our island king loses his balance and falls off his stool, painfully saying he's good. We all know he's not 🤕. Molly starts to cheer up a bit, suggesting that her dad can tell her a story while her mom's out. Ginger smiles, agreeing with her daughter's idea. Then our island queen bids her big, brave girl goodnight, kisses her on the cheek and heads off to the meeting. As Ginger leaves, Molly runs up the stairs giggling and Rocky wishes his wife good luck with the meeting.
Tumblr media
Once father and daughter were alone together, Rocky calls out to Molly, asking her what she wants to do as she comes back downstairs. Molly then holds up a large poster, suggesting to her dad that he could tell about it. It was Rocky's old circus poster with ROCKY THE FLYING ROOSTER on it, the same one that Rocky packed away the day Molly had hatched. Our island king is taken aback; he tries to convince his daughter that the rooster on the poster wasn't him. However, Molly is smarter than she seems. She looks at Rocky, then she looks at the poster and then she gives her dad a knowing look. They were clearly the one and the same rooster. Rocky caves in, saying that the rooster in the poster is him but it was a long time ago. Our dashing rooster then gazes at his poster, probably remember how different his life as a Lone Free Ranger was back then. Molly raises her eyebrows, convincing her dad to continue. Rocky then brightens up, stating that it's actually a pretty good story. Our island king then starts to tell his little princess all about his exciting adventures as a Lone Free Ranger. Those were the days when he lived in the circus and was shot into the sky from a cannon. He was living the life, free as a bird. This is going to come back to haunt Rocky. He's soon going to wish he'd never told Molly any of those stories.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile at the town hall, all the chickens gathered around, chattering anxiously about what was happening on the mainland. At that moment, Ginger arrived and walked up to the podium with her serious look. Bunty is in one corner of the hall with Mac, Babs and Fowler with her arms crossed and frowning, knowing that when Ginger's got that look, she'll probably have them all charging right into the fray. Babs nervously says she doesn't want to charge into any frays since she's fray-phobic. Classic Babs 😂. Ginger then calls out to the crowd to settle down to make her annoucement.
Tumblr media
Our island queen goes over what they already know: the new road and the trucks taking chickens to what looks like some kind of farm. Some of the chickens start to panic a little; one chicken named Beryl even laid an egg. Ginger calms them down again and continues with her announcement: that from their past experiences, they know what this new threat can mean. It's something that they just can't ignore and that they all only have one choice. Throughout this, the panic started up again and begins to get worse with each time Ginger gets more intense. Babs unknowingly knitted a blue masterpiece with a chicken skull and cross bones on it; she's obviously terrified with the news and tries to hide behind it, not wanting to hear their only choice. But surprisingly, Ginger says that their only choice is to hide.
Tumblr media
Everyone is shocked silent. Even Mac, Babs, Bunty and Fowler were surprised. This wasn't the bold and brave Ginger they knew. One chicken suggested that by hide, it means like pretending that they're not there; Ginger agrees. There was more silence and then the crowd erupts in loud cheering. This didn't sound dangerous at all. All the chickens were cheering except for Mac. Our Scottish hen knows her best friend too well and this whole hiding plan was definitely not in her nature. Ginger explained how they could hide from the humans on the mainland by making a huge leafy screen to block the chickens from their view. The chickens left the meeting happily, ready to start to work right away, leaving Ginger in the hall. Even though old Fowler was used to facing up to the enemy, he tries to be enthusiastic about the plan. He walks alongside Babs calling this plan Operation Lie-Low; our ditzy hen states she likes lie-lows, especially the stripy ones 😂.
Tumblr media
As Ginger watches the chickens leave, she's hoping she made the right choice for everyone even though it's usually not like her. Mac walks up to her best friend asking about her welfare, knowing that it's not like her to shy away from danger. Ginger knows that she would rather face the humans and stop the threat against chicken kind, but things are not the same as they once were. Now that she is married to Rocky and they have Molly to think about, she cannot risk their freedom by venturing into a world that finds chickens so delicious. They all have spend so long trying to escape from Tweedy's Farm to freedom for a better life and now that they have, they're not about to lose it at the hands of humans once again.
Tumblr media
Our island queen had had a change of perspective now that she's a wife and a mother. She's trying so hard to protect her family and all her friends, even if it means shying away from danger instead of facing it like she used to. There are times when we think we made the right choice because it's easy, but sometimes the easy choice is not always the right one. However, I just hope that Ginger's decision to hide from the humans is a good one. 🤔

A special Valentine’s Day post for all Chicken Run fans. Rocky and Ginger have found true love in the first film, starting off as boyfriend and girlfriend. In the second film, their love for each other is stronger than ever, now that they are husband and wife. Their circle of love became even greater when their daughter Molly came into their lives. The love of this family is truly something special.

Tonight’s Super Bowl was an exciting game. The Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers: 25 - 22. This game had gone into overtime to get this far. I’m not the kind of person who cares about who wins or loses anyway.

Molly Growing Up
Now that Rocky and Ginger have a new baby, it doesn't take them long to give us a glimpse of a happy family. Molly is definitely the most adorable little chick anyone has ever seen and her parents absolutely love her so much. However, as we, her parents and their friends learn later on, our little island princess certainly has a mind of her own. She somehow manages to get herself into one scrape after another. Sometimes it's really cute, but other times, it's nerve-wracking. But I have to admit, the scenes with Molly growing up are some of the cutest 🥰🥰🥰.
Tumblr media
To begin with, we see Rocky and Ginger taking baby Molly out for a stroll through the village in her little baby carriage (or pram as they say in England). While Ginger pushes the pram, Rocky is trying to get his daughter's attention by shaking her rattle; they're really enjoying their time with her. Molly is looking out of her pram, smiling and cooing as all babies do at all things new to them in the outside world. She then notices the rattle her daddy is shaking and reaches out to grab it. Doing so, she smiles sweetly up at her parents who smile back at her proudly. We then see the rattle being tossed over the parents' heads and now their backs are turned from the pram.
While Rocky bends down to pick it up with Ginger watching him, Molly then jiggles her pram which makes it start to roll down a slope. Rocky and Ginger notice this and chases after the out-of-control pram as it whizzes out of the village and into the woods, with Molly shouting "Whee!" all the way. The terrified parents continue to race after their daughter until they come upon a horrible sight - the pram has fallen onto its side! At first they're scared but then relieved to see Molly come out, not only unharmed, but walking for the first time. Even I was terrified then relieved when I first saw this. Talk about your lucky baby chick 🐥. Baby Molly continues to walk with the biggest smile of her cute little face as her parents happily watch. That's the first scrape, but it's only just the beginning of more to come 😥.
Tumblr media
Fast forward to Molly now as a toddler, with very little sense of danger. She is practicing walking on a low beam like a tight-rope with her parents following right behind her with encouragement. However, before Rocky and Ginger could stop her, Molly clambers onto some crates and gets onto the conveyor belt of Mac's harvesting machine. As Rocky and Ginger look on with worry, their toddler daughter climbs higher and higher until she reaches the top, right past her Auntie Mac who's on a ladder. Our Scottish hen watches Molly jump off the conveyor belt and is so worried about her niece that she falls off her ladder trying to reach out for her. But don't worry - Molly is still one lucky chick. Instead of getting hurt, she bounces off Fowler's hammock, which was just below the machine, and lands right into a little jumper that Babs has just knitted while sitting close by. All the while, Mac lands safely in the hammock with Fowler spilled onto the ground after missing it when Molly bounced off it. Rocky, Ginger, Mac and Fowler watch Molly land into the jumper that her Auntie Babs knitted. Maybe she should keep that jumper as a reminder of that day, not just because it looks cute on her 🥰.
Tumblr media
Now that Molly has become a little more rambunctious, Rocky and Ginger think it's best to put their toddler into an enclosed play area where she can't get into more trouble. In fact, Bunty builds one made from Mac's calculations, with Molly inside it, smiling sweetly at her parents who reciprocate. Babs then comes out offering everyone some freshly made tea and biscuits. With her parents' and aunts' backs turned, Molly then busts out a spoon she had hidden behind her back and tunnels her way out of her playpen. Hearing noise behind them, everyone turns to see a gaping hole where Molly once stood with dirt coming out. Rocky and Ginger laugh nervously at this, seeing that their daughter may be cute but she's going to be a real handful now.
Tumblr media
Fast forward again to Molly now as a young child, always looking for new adventures. She climbs out of another hole she just dug in a garden and runs down to a dock where Rocky is meeting with Nick and Fetcher, who visit once a month to bring supplies from the mainland to the island. Molly is used to watching her uncles sail to and from the mainland on their raft, wondering where they were going. Today, she's going to find out. When Rocky wasn't looking, Molly hops onto the raft and sails away with her uncles. She waves goodbye to her daddy, who can't believe his eyes! Now he has to go retrieve his young daughter and bring her back home.
Tumblr media
Next we see Ginger in their front yard lying in a lawn chair with a drink in her hand, enjoying the sunshine. Up comes Rocky, dripping wet and exhausted, carrying Molly on his shoulder. Rocky and Ginger Moment Alert!!!😍 As Molly scampers off into the house, Ginger chuckles at her husband's appearance. Rocky notices this and shakes himself dry, showering his wife to get even. Ginger retaliates by playfully tossing her drink onto him and Rocky ends up chasing her with a bucket of water. Our happily married chickens still have that spark they had from the first film, only more playful, and they certainly find ways to keep their relationship alive🥰🥰.
You can see that whole scene on this link here: https://www.tumblr.com/floridianfireflyfaith/738550565751095296/this-little-moment-for-them-made-me-so-happy
Now both dripping wet and laughing together, the island king and queen walk back to the house to bump into their daughter, who is now 11 years old and a little bit taller now too. How can one grow that much in just a few seconds?🤷🏼‍♀️ Rocky and Ginger cannot believe how big Molly has gotten. Anyway, Molly bids her parents goodbye and runs along to her special spot. As our island princess runs, she greets other chickens along the way and they all greet her back. Obviously they all love Molly but not as much as her parents do, I bet. Her special spot is a tall tree that she climbs effortlessly with grace and agility like an acrobat at the way to top, which is her own special lookout area. I bet she gets her agility from her father since he was a circus performer.
Tumblr media
Molly looks out to the mainland in the horizon, which stretched as far as the eye could see. The older that Molly got, the more curious she got. She had never left the island in her life and was desperate to know what lay beyond their small world. She just had to know what else is out there, far from their island home. Our island princess then spots her mother down below and gets an idea into her head. Molly climbs down to greet Ginger who is picking blueberries, who then affectionately greets her daughter back. She then sees her father down at the dock meeting with Nick and Fetcher again. She greets them too, calling Nick and Fetcher "uncle" in the process. Rocky and Nick both smile but Fetcher starts to crumble, his eyes filling with tears. The taller rat is surprised that Molly called him "Uncle Fetcher". Nick tries to calm his partner but it's obvious that he feels the same way that Fetcher does. Usually those rats are hard-hearted but now that Molly considers them part of her family too, they crumble and burst into tears. Rocky rolls his eyes at this.
Tumblr media
Molly then goes ahead with her idea. She asks her mother if they could go over to the other side of the water. Ginger stops what she's doing and glances nervously at the mainland. Suddenly images came to her head - her being stuck behind the barbed fence, the terrifying Mrs. Tweedy holding her dreaded axe, that wicked woman swinging it at our island queen. Obviously she is suffering from PTSD after all the trauma she endured. She shuddered just thinking about it. Ginger tries to brush this off by saying there's nothing over on the mainland for them. However, Molly debates this by saying that the stuff Nick and Fetcher bring to the island comes from the mainland and is for them. Ginger didn't know how to respond to that. Luckily though, Rocky arrived carrying an empty jam jar and a magnifying glass. Our island king greets his wife and our island queen tells her husband that their princess is asking about going off the island. Rocky notices the worried look on Ginger's face and then decides to divert his daughter by asking her if she wants to see the world's coolest invention. At first, Molly is hesitant but then agrees.
Tumblr media
The Rhodes family goes up the hill to see an extremely cool thing. Ginger and Molly watch as Rocky places a metal lid onto a wooden stump, sprinkles some kernels of corn onto it and puts a glass jar over the top of them. He then ties the magnifying glass to a stick and angles it so the glass catches a beam of sunlight and directs it onto the jar. Soon things begin to heat up inside the jar and the corn starts to pop. Molly is fascinated by this trick. Peering at the popping corn, she asks her father what it is, who responds that it's only the answer to all life's problems - popcorn. Our island family then all enjoy the popcorn and look at the view of their lovely village, feeling content that life doesn't get better than this. I agree 100%. After all that Rocky, Ginger and the rest of the chickens have been through, they deserve to have a good life away from humans. And now that Rocky and Ginger have Molly, their life is now complete and their happily ever after will last forever.🐓🐔🐥❤️
Tumblr media
This happy feeling along with the peace and quiet of the island is then shattered by the sound of loud thumps in the distant. Rocky, Ginger and Molly look to a bank where the sounds are coming from. Our island queen rushes up the bank and looks out into a clearing. In the distance, she could hear the sound of buzzing chainsaws and see a row of trees falling one by one with those same loud thumps. That could only mean one thing to Ginger - humans were close by and they're cutting down trees on the mainland. She's suddenly snapped out of her scared daze when she hears her daughter asking her, "What is it?" Ginger tries to hide her fear from Molly, brightly saying that it's nothing to worry about. She smiles at her daughter but gives her husband a worried look. Rocky knows his wife pretty well; Ginger was worried - it looked as if the humans were building a new road. But for what...and why? Now here's where the real story starts to come along.

The Hatching of Molly
Now our dashing rooster claims he’s got everything under control but just then, an extraordinary thing happens. The egg wobbles and then... a little leg pops out. That's when Rocky starts to panic and Ginger starts to worry as the egg-on-one-leg starts to hop - right out of the nest. So much for old Rocky being on the case 😂. Even worse, it heads right for the open door. Ginger cries out in a panic to her husband to grab the egg. Rocky goes after it and dives in to grab it, but it slips out of his grasp and flies into the air.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Now here comes the first little scare that the new parents endure. The egg first takes a ride on Mac's juice-making set up - a system that delivers freshly picked fruit from the trees to Bunty, who tramples the fruit in a large vat to make delicious juice for the village. What happens is the egg falls into one of the fruit baskets. The basket tips over and the egg rolls down the delivery chute towards Bunty and her stomping feet. Mac notices the egg rolling and cries out as the egg bounces off Bunty's foot and flies up into the air once again. Bunty watches surprisingly as the egg sails upwards and lands on the roof of Fowler's house. The old rooster spots the egg as it flies towards his roof and panics, thinking he was back in the war. When the egg lands on the roof straight towards the ledge, another leg pops out. It runs from the ledge but then turns right back toward it again and topples off the roof. Rocky and Ginger spot their precious egg on the roof and then rush after it as it falls. The eggs falls right into a wheelbarrow full of rocks and we hear what sounds like a splat. At first, Rocky and Ginger look on in horror but then are relieved to learn that the egg actually fell into a soft, warm pile of hay. The rock-filled wheelbarrow was just covering the pile of hay; we learn this as another hen pushes the wheelbarrow away. What a relief. Talk about a lucky break. 😮‍💨 If that wasn't nerve racking, I don't know what else is. 😅
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
The relieved parents push back the hay to watch their egg continue to hatch. The shell bursts open and out pops the most adorable baby chick that anyone has ever seen. Rocky and Ginger fell in love straight away. Rocky proudly says to his wife that they've got a family now. The little chick yawns and stretches a little and then gazes at its parents, its big blue eyes blinking. Don't those beautiful blue eyes make you melt? 🥹 Ginger smiles in wonder as she picks up the shell containing the chick - it is a beautiful little girl. Our new mother hen softly tells her husband that their new baby is perfect, as any new mother would say. The proud new parents gaze lovingly at their new baby, welcoming it into the world. They thought of the perfect name for a perfect baby daughter - Molly. Little baby Molly then smiles at her mommy and daddy.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
All the chickens came to see the new addition to the flock, and the island. Proud Auntie Mac smiles broadly, saying "What a bonny wee hen" which I believes translates from Scottish to "what a beautiful little girl" in American. Auntie Bunty gushes at the new little one, complimenting that Molly's got her father's spindly little legs. Baby Molly reaches out her little wings and her little legs towards Grandpa Fowler, smiling the most adorable little smile. The old rooster comments that they need to build those little legs up, telling another one of his RAF memories that they all did 50 squats before breakfast. He begins to demonstrate a squat, but his old knees gave way and he disappears from sight. Seems like Fowler is starting to feel his old age. Good thing he's retired.
Tumblr media
Auntie Babs happily announces that she made her new little niece a bicycle; Rocky is surprised to hear this. Babs proudly holds up the bike, which turns to be knitted and floppy. Now it's Ginger's turn to be surprised as she sees that Babs didn't actually make Molly a bicycle but in fact, she knitted one instead. However, Ginger knows that even though her friend can be a little ditzy, Babs' heart was in the right place. Rocky doesn't know what to make of this, but agrees with his wife 100% about Babs' lovely thought. It's true. Molly may not be able to ride that bike, but she can always snuggle with it in her nest. 🤗🚲🥰😴 The proud new mother and father thank Babs for the thoughtful gift anyway.
Tumblr media
Our leading rooster now makes a proud statement that their little island paradise just got a little more "paradisier". The proud new father then puffs out his chest and gives out one of his famous Rocky crows - "COCK-A-DOODLE-DOO!!!!" It's official now! Rocky and Ginger's dream of having a family of their own has finally come true. Our King and Queen of Chicken Island have now welcomed a new little princess - Molly. 🐓🐔🐣 Little do they know that parenthood is going to be a whole new adventure for them, even on a peaceful island paradise.

Welcome to Chicken Island
Sorry for the long wait for another one of my Chicken Run posts, but at least late is better than never. Now that Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget has been streaming on Netflix for the last few weeks, I hope my next few posts of this franchise doesn't include too many spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen this wonderful sequel yet.
Anyway let's start at the beginning, when we hear our charming rooster voicing to us the memories of the first film in the form of what seems like a bedtime story. At first you might think he's talking to the audience watching the memories as the story is told. In his exact words, it goes like this:
"There was this farmer, see? And she absolutely hated chickens. Kept them locked up like prisoners. I guess you could say she had a real "axe" to grind. Got herself a machine that turned chickens into pies. But what she didn't plan on was going toe to toe with a certain freedom-fighting chick. She was fierce, fearless, and wanted one thing and one thing only - freedom. She pulled us all together and gave us the wings to fly right out of that hen-hole. She got every chicken out of there. And got rid of that wicked farmer to boot."

But later, after we see the newspaper article about the Tweedy farm explosion, we learn just who Rocky is really telling the story to. And among other things, we also learn a few other things about Rocky and Ginger after their past experiences. Those discoveries make themselves known as soon as Ginger asks the rooster if bedtime stories might be a bit premature at the moment. Rocky retaliates by saying that no one's never too young to learn where they came from. They both happily look at who, or what, Rocky was telling the story to - a precious egg laying in a cozy nest.
Yes, it's true. Rocky and Ginger are not boyfriend and girlfriend anymore. Now our beautiful feathered couple are happily married as husband and wife AND they're expecting a baby 🐓💍🐔. At this point, there's no telling when the egg will hatch but we do know it's going to happen any day now and soon, Rocky and Ginger will also be parents 🥚.

Ginger then heads outside their house with Rocky following right behind her. She tells her husband that their days in the past are over and they've got their happy ending. In fact, they're living in it. Our happily married couple then gaze out into the horizon looking at the tranquil village that all the free chickens have built over the last few years since their daring and risky escape from Tweedy's Farm. Much like a king and queen surveying their kingdom since Ginger is the leading hen and with Rocky as her forever mate now, he is the leading rooster as well.

As we look around the village, we see that all the chickens have built their own comfortable homes, much better compared to the huts they used to live in. Life on the island is good as it can be, especially for a few other chicken friends of ours. Bunty grows all the fruits and vegetables they could eat, much better than the chicken feed they used to eat. Mac's inventions made their lives much easier. Fowler is pretty much enjoying his retirement from being the leading rooster but still likes to talk about his days in the RAF. Babs continues to knit as she always does. As for the other hens, they pretty much do their own thing enjoying their freedom, not having a single worry in the world. Hard to believe that this opening scene in the village took about six months to make.

In fact, their new life is so perfect that Ginger believes that now is time to put the past behind them. Confused, Rocky questions his wife about this and she refers to the one wall in their house covered in pictures and newspaper clippings - most about the legendary explosion at Tweedy's Farm and one about Rocky's escape from the circus along with his old poster. Our couple head back inside looking at that very wall. Rocky indignantly reminds Ginger that these memories are their glory days and it's how they are. Our lovely hen scoffs at this, stating that it's who they were. Holding onto her husband's arm, she reminds him that they went through that dreadful past so their baby doesn't have to.

Rocky thinks about this for a moment. Our handsome rooster then admits to his wife that she's right. He then goes over to the wall and rips off his old circus poster; he would clear the rest of it later. At this point, both husband and wife agree that from now on, their only mission is to keep their baby safe. Our two married chickens gaze lovingly at their precious egg still laying in its nest, wondering when it's going to hatch. Though they won't have to wait much longer 😉.

Auuuggghhh if there's something that is WONDERFULLY written in Dawn of the Nugget, it's the way the trauma of Ginger (and the chickens overall) correlates with the first movie. The way she does not want her child to live through the same hell she went through, but hiding the details from her daughter in an attempt to protect her is exactly the mistake that makes lil Molly venture away, unaware of the dangers lying outside. Rocky wants to tell everything to Molly, thinking that the past and the successful escape from Tweedy Farm is something to be celebrated and passed down to the next generation. Which is understandable, but also tells that he never had to LIVE on the farm all of his life fearing the axe, the way Ginger and the others did. He is not traumatized by it the way his wife is.
Hiding traumatic history from the next generation instead of facing it because you want to move on, and deciding to hide in order to protect the community you fought for, is something that is SO real
(It's also why I hc the chonky retconned chicks are born after Molly, since we see at the end of the first movie how Fowler tells them the story of the escape)
