WIP Fics Game

Thank you @annas-hair-donut for the tag!

These fics vary from being ideas of what I hope to eventually write in the future to fics I've actively been posting chapters of. All of these are Frozen.

In the Pocket: (Kristoff/Anna) Modern AU, NFL AU. Kristoff is a star tight end at the peak of his game, but everything changes for him when he meets A list actress, Anna, at a charity event and they hit it off. Can Kristoff handle the pressure of dating such a star

2. Check to the Heart: (Kristoff/Anna) Modern AU, College AU, BATB cross-over. Kristoff is the goalie on Arendelle University's ice hockey team and Anna is an ice dancer on Arendelle U's figure skating team. When Kristoff and Anna meet at a party sparks begin to fly.

3. More Than a Partner: (Hans/Anna) Modern AU, College AU, prequel to Check to the Heart. This was supposed to be for smut week, but I lost motivation. Anna and Hans have been ice dance partners since they were children and from the time they were children rumours have swirled about their romantic status, but they always insisted they were just partners and friends. After winning the gold in the national competition, Anna decides to take a risk and see if maybe they can be more than just skating partners and gives Hans her virginity.

4. Promposal: (Kristoff/Anna) Modern AU, Highschool AU. I've had this on my wip list for a while and I will someday write it. Kristoff decides to ask his best friend, Anna, to the prom, but its not easy for him and it seems like he'll never get it right.

5. The Assist: (Kristoff/Anna) Modern AU, NHL AU. Anna's just been hired to be the personal assistant to NHL goalie Kristoff Bjorgman. Will private, grumpy and gruff Kristoff warm up to Anna being all up in his business and let her in?

6. Second Chances: (Kristoff/Anna) Modern AU. This one was going to to be my fic for the back to school event last summer until life got in the way. Kristoff and Anna briefly dated in college and they meet again years later when Anna becomes Kristoff's daughter's kindergarten teacher.

Gahhhhh Now I want to simultaneously write all these!

"I probably won't be writing any more new fanfic" I hope nothing bad happened irl?

No, nothing bad! Quite the opposite, actually. It's so sweet of you to ask, though! There's actually a couple reasons I'm stepping back.

First, I'm burnt out on fanfic. I've been updating once a month, many times more, for the past 3 years, organizing and participating in challenges/exchanges, and running a fandom server. I've loved (almost) every minute of it, but it's a part-time job, and it's holding me back from following my dream.

I want to make writing a full-time job one day and it's time for me to start working toward that. So I need to give that same level of commitment to paid content as I've given to fanfic. (More, actually.)

So I'm writing and self-publishing a super angsty, spicy romance novel (tentatively titled I See You More), which will hopefully be out in early January. And I just started a Patreon with monthly posts of a serialized story on the fluffy side about an original character with DID (with higher-paid tiers for additional NSFW content). The Patreon will go live in the next week or so, and I'll make a separate post with more details when it's ready for people to sign up.

So, nothing bad at all! I'm really looking forward to this next phase in my writing life. And I love the new characters I've created (which probably aren't so far off from the characterizations and dynamics I've been writing in fanfic).

WIP Tag Game

As everyone knows by now, I probably won't be writing any more new fanfic (but I will finish Head Over Feet). But since @the-red-butterfly tagged me I'll leave this bittersweet list of what could have been:

And If I Change My Mind (Frozen, Kristanna) This is a long fic continuation of the Bandana AU where Anna works in Kris' garage. Lots of friends-to-lovers vibes, forbidden love, workplace romance, trauma recovery, jealousy (Anna was going to date Mattias for a bit there), and I was also going to have some Belle/Ryder shipping going on (trust me, they'd be great together).

C U Next Tuesday (Frozen, Helsa) This was supposed to be for Frozen Smut Week, but, unfortunately, I spent all my time on Good Cop, Bad Cop instead. Hans is a straight-A student, but can't seem to catch a break in his economics class. His TA is a stuck-up B who tells him to come to office hours if he wants any help. He refuses to ask for help, though, even if it means raising his grade. Then one night at a bar, he meets this mysterious woman who shows him what it's really like to be helpless and BDSM changes his life (for the better).

Keelhaul (Frozen, Rydoff) This is another Smut Week fic that didn't happen. Ryder is a stowaway on Kristoff's pirate ship. He was going to be keelhauled (tied on a rope and dragged in the water next to the ship - usually a death sentence), but then Kristoff decides he would do some keelhauling of his own in his cabin.

Sittin' in Your Tree (Frozen, Kristanna) It's sort of a song fic based on the song "C'est La Vie" by B*Witched. Extremely shy widower Kristoff has a second chance with his neighbor from childhood when he enrolls his daughter in her Irish dance class.

Sunflowers Vol. 7 (or so) (Frozen, Kristanna/Rydoff/Hansanna) Based on the song Sunflowers Vol. 6 by Harry Styles. Kristoff (a veterinarian) and Anna (Elsa's chief of staff) are happily married with kids, but Kristoff has a secret he's been hiding from Anna. When Kristoff moves to a new clinic, he meets vet tech Ryder, and Kristoff can no longer keep his secret. Anna leans on worst enemy/douchebag ex-boyfriend/obnoxious lobbyist Hans for support and old feelings rekindle. Told from dual POV.

“I’m not going through that again,” Ariel insisted. 

“I know your family is a bit much.”

“You’re making this about my family?”

“Um,” Eric hemmed. “Well, you seemed happy enough until that inlaw showed up at the christening.”

“She wasn’t family,” Ariel replied. “Not really.”

Eric sighed. “That’s not the point.” 

“Well, what do you suggest?”

“Can we just wait another few months and not do anything drastic? It’s not like we would have another for at least another year or two, anyway.”

What fandoms do you write for? Mostly Frozen (Kristanna, especially), sometimes crossing over with other Disney movies. I've also written 7 fics for Wednesday (TV), and one or two for Good Witch (TV), The Americans, Beetlejuice, and What We Do in the Shadows. Oh, and a fic about the song, "Brandy."

5. Do you respond to comments? Yes, I try to! But to be honest, if I get a super long comment or something that needs a long response, I usually put it off because I want to answer with as much effort as the commenter put into it. So sorry to the people whose comments I haven't responded to. Please know that I read them and loved them and will respond as soon as I collect myself from the puddle on the floor.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I've yet to write anything with an unhappy ending. But the closest I got was The Ice King (Hans/Elsa, E). I can't say because it's a spoiler. Let's just say that everyone got what they wanted, but it didn't work out quite the way it was supposed to.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Everything else? I guess if I have to pick one it's She Holds a Candle (Kristoff/Anna and Stephanie (transfemme Sven)/Ryder). I ended up giving Stephanie and Ryder their own chapter because I loved them so much and just wasn't ready to let them go. So Kristoff and Anna ended up together and then Stephanie and Ryder got married at the end. (Y'all know I love Ryder so much that I named my cat after him.)

8. Do you get hate on fics? I have. Mostly on ffn, so I stopped posting there. And I've gotten a little on AO3, too. Mostly it's been from people who don't know what archive warnings and tags are for, or who have contempt for the characters, ships, fandoms, etc. and haven't even read it.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yes! Mostly m/f, usually femdom, and sometimes with mild BDSM (mostly bondage)

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? I did more when I started out, but I don't do it so much anymore. I guess the craziest was Hans/Elsa in an animated Addams Family fusion AU (The Magenta Cravat, T). At one point I was going to write a WednesdayxFrozen AU where Anna was Wednesday's roommate instead of Enid and Elsa was a teacher at Nevermore. There's also the Frozen/Midsommar AU (Elsa/Pelle) which will never happen either. C'est la vie.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? I don't think so.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes, a couple of my Wednesday fics were translated into Russian!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic? Yes, but it never saw the light of day. It was with a few other Frozen and Beauty and the Beast writers in the Frozen Hearts Will Melt Discord server (DM me if you want an invite).

14. What's your all-time favourite ship? Kristoff/Anna from Frozen.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? All of them? Seriously, though. I've determined that none of my WIPs on AO3 are going to be finished except for Head Over Feet. I'd love to finish The Refugees, All Tied Up, Sophisticated Grace, and Pour Some Sugar on Me, but I don't know if I have it in me. I dunno. Maybe someday.

16. What are your writing strengths? I've been told character dynamics and descriptions of body movements.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Repetitive sentence structure, head hopping. And I have no idea where commas are supposed to go. Every time I think I'm right, my grammar check tells me I'm wrong.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for fic? I generally prefer to write dialogue in English and indicate that it's in another language. I don't want to make the reader do extra work just to find out what happens next. I also want the reader to be in the character's shoes the entire time without even realizing it, and having to read in a language they're not as familiar with can take them out of it. But, at the end of the day, it's a technique and a choice the writer has to make about what's best for the characters and their story.

I wish I knew another language well enough that I could write a whole fic in that language, but alas. I hold writers who write in foreign languages in the highest esteem.

19. First fandom you wrote for? Frozen (Kristoff/Anna)

20. Favourite fic you've written? Pretty Please (Kristoff/Anna, E). I wrote this for @99goosebumps for the 2023 BDSM Exchange. It was so much fun to write, and all the stars aligned with it. Aside from writing some new kinks I loved, I'm really happy with the quality of the fic and I really loved Kristoff and Anna's dynamic in this one. I don't think I've ever gotten it quite as right as I did in that fic. It's definitely not for everyone, but I hope the people who have read it found something they liked there.

Kristoff awakens with a hazy memory of the previous night and his best friend in his bed. As he begins to put the pieces together, one thing becomes clear - a night out drinking and two broken hearts does not a good decision make.

What if Elsa hadn't heard the voice and gotten weird during charades in Frozen 2? Kristoff tries to propose to Anna right after the game of charades, but he's not able to get the words to come out right. So he resorts to a bit of impromptu charades to ask the big question. Anna says yes, of course—and then is so excited that she uses charades herself to make a suggestion of what they should do together next. The clues are: two words, first word sounds like “pets,” second word sounds like “duck.”

I watched Frozen and Frozen 2 and I really couldn't get enough Kristanna. I guess it's just all my favorite tropes mashed together. I had never read fanfic before. Ever. But I started reading Kristanna fanfic. And then I read one fic that was unfinished. I needed more but there wasn't any. And I just thought that if there were other people like me writing fanfic there's no reason why I couldn't do it, too. So I did it. Or at least enough to satisfy my need. And then I did the same thing for another unfinished fic. And then I got an idea or a few and I wrote my own! And I'm so glad I did!

Frozen Through the Years

Yearly Spotlight: 2016

2016 was a BIG YEAR for the Frozen fandom. There were not many big events, but the real-world reach of the franchise itself expanded greatly.

In Disney World, the newly-rethemed Norway in Epcot opened, including the ride Frozen Ever After, the Royal Sommerhus (where guests could meet Elsa and Anna), and a Frozen-themed shop selling everything from plush dolls to drinkware. At Disney’s California Adventure, fans celebrated the opening of Frozen: Live at the Hyperion, a 55-minute show that ran multiple times per day until the park closed for the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Sales of Frozen merch were going strong all over the world, to the point where discount shops stocked Frozen items along with the food they sold. Of course, most of the merch was aimed at children, but the Disney Enesco figurines proved to be popular among older fans! In March, Disney in Concert brought songs from Disney classics - including Frozen - to stages in Austria, Switzerland, and Germany, allowing the magic of Frozen to be experienced by whole new audiences. The brand extension Frozen Northern Lights also began in 2016, expanding the lore of our favorite story in the form of 5 books published (4 of them in 2016) and 4 LEGO shorts (though some of this lore was decidedly not canon).

Within the fandom, 2016 was also the beginning of shipping wars; intense arguments over which characters should be together ensued, proving to be somewhat divisive for a previously unified fandom. As the official franchise and the fandom continued to grow, Frozen remained in the hearts of superfans and casual viewers alike.
