i think people confuse jason's concept of permanence with being anti-redemption. he doesn’t believe every person who has done something criminal is unforgivable. he instead weighs the factors, like yeah, im gonna have to get in your way, but they can walk away from this. they dont DESERVE to die, they need a chance where this isnt the only option.
but then he deals with sex traffickers, or molesters, or serial rapist and comes to the conclusion that these are not crimes born of need but either of greed or desire. these are people that chose to be horrible just because they could. and no amount of waiting for them to change, to feel guilty, to want to be/do better is worth the people that have already been hurt.
i find the phrases, "everybody deserves a second chance," and "everyone is worthy of redemption," to be inherently dismissive of those who were already abused. because what about them. why is this person worthy of a kindness that was never afforded to ME. what about the 10 other people like ME who are still wanting for that kindness and understanding to come their way.
jason weighs the risk factor of letting them walk, and decides infinite chances, the possibility of redemption is not worth the potential victims, or a fraction of the peace of mind an act of permanence can provide.

Since so many people like giving Tim Jason’s backstory of childhood neglect and malnourishment, i think he should also get the attendant prejudices.
Bruce had to take in tim to save him from a life of crime. Look, he has already sunken to stalking and theft. (He even stole that dead boys clothes.) But it was too late. Even Batman couldn’t resist fate, and tim gave in and accepted a life of criminal violence. One of bruce’s greatest failures really.

As a kid with terrible parents, it is insulting when you see storylines about how you will repeat the traumatic things your parents did to you to others; how no matter how much you try, you will always be your parents’ child and your personality cannot be distanced from your parents
the whole like mother like daughter bullshit
genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, fuck you
'realistic' my ass

man, back in my days people had respectful conversations about their very different headcanons and character conceptions. Either we’d come out of the discussion having a slightly different view of our characters; or if we didn’t get anywhere, we would just 'agree to disagree now let’s rave about the obsession we both have in common'. Nowadays anytime you even think about putting your two cents, people think you’re there to argue and ruin their headcanons
what I’m trying to get at is fandoms aren’t fun anymore. It’s become a place to police what people should or shouldn’t like, only keeping to ourselves and barely interacting (actually interacting) with each other, degrading other people’s opinions and thinking that you’re better than them because 'your headcanon is better'
For someone with social anxiety, whose anxiousness makes having the courage to interact with anyone very hard already, it’s basically a hell hole

im making this its own post actually
found family is "i have endured the fucking horrors with these guys. i would both kill and die for them. i would rip my own bones out to make splints to heal theirs. there is no name for the bond we share"
found family is NOT "this guy is so dad-coded and these guys are so sibling-like and—"

You know what’s frustrating? It is that I only see social media and news outlets talk about the compulsory hijab problem in Iran (and that is IF they decide to talk about Iran. This mostly goes back to the first days of protest in Iran, considering that’s the only time Iran was talked about). And don’t get me wrong it is a huge problem and needs to be talked about; women have died (and even gotten raped to be taught a 'lesson') just because they didn’t wear their hijab the 'proper' way the regime deems. Now what is considered proper depends on how moody the officers are feeling that day :/
However the way it’s depicted in medias is as if that’s the ONLY reason us Iranians have protested and it’s the ONLY reason we’re angry at the government and everything else is completely fine with the country. That the only issue of the government is about women’s rights.
People were on the streets protesting for 6 months. During those 6 months, the government attempted a genocide on our Kurds, committed mass shootings on Sunni (Muslim) protesters of the Balouch ethnic on EACH Friday after prayer (Namaz Jumma), blinded one or both eyes of thousands of protesters, shot protesters point blank with assault rifles (with both plastic and real bullets), went on mass arrests (in every city of Iran that protests happened), raided universities and arrested protesting students and moved them either to prison or unknown locations (would’ve performed the bloodbath they did in 2009 protests of Iran if the people didn’t protest in the whole city and in front of the universities), they torture protesters mentally physically and sexually in prisons, at times the tortures can be so intense that the victim passes away, of course the death penalty which everyone have heard but only some are leaked out (some times they don’t let even the family know their family member is going to get hanged) but sometimes they even film the hanging and play it on tv to scare the people, they harvest the organs of those people they killed and sell them to the black market, if that isn’t violating enough to the person THEY killed, they also don’t let the families of the victims to bury their loved ones in the place of their choosing and only let one or two close family members (usually mother and father. Even siblings can sometimes not be allowed) be present on the burial day (to prevent gatherings from happening)
Honestly this is only the tip of the ice berg and I could go on and on about the atrocities they committed ONLY IN THESE 6 MONTHS. They’ve been doing this shit for 42 years (ever since the Islamic Republic came on the table).
Here’s my gripe. All of these happened last year and not a single. fucking. peep. It was crickets. Why? And don’t give me the “we didn’t know”, multiple celebrities of yours talked about this. Angelina Jolie wrote about the experiences of children of Iran in prison and the horrors they have faced. Huda beauty went in depth about the role of America in putting this regime in power in Iran decades ago and it’s influence in the Islamic revolution. You know nothing about celebrities, fine (even tho y’all praised these 2 about how they spoke up about the genocide happening in Palestine but ok you don’t know them either). You know the fucking Grammys don’t you? Shervin Hajipour, an Iranian singer in Iran, who released the first influential political song for the protests 'Baraye' (which was used regularly on the streets during the protests), won the award for best song for social change 2023 and got presented in the Grammys by Jill fucking Biden. I saw multiple funny edits of the Grammys that year on YouTube (and no mention of Shervin am I surprised). Did you not know the Grammys was happening either? Fine. You got Twitter at least don’t you? Us Iranians (specially the youth) stayed up multiple nights to trend the names of protesters on death row / the name of Kurdish cities that were under genocide by the government / the name of the city Zahedan that has experienced way too many bloodbaths for protesting peacefully after Namaz Jumma / the name of the prison deliberately set on fire by the regime to specifically the protesters that were arrested, Evin. And we succeeded. Their names were on the trending topics of twitter by morning (both in Farsi and English). And yet nothing. At this point I’m wondering what atrocity has to happen to us for the world to give a shit
There’s this saying that’s going between Iranians on twitter: Being born in the Middle East is unfortunate on its own but being born as an Iranian is truly something else. It’s hilarious (in a hysterical sense). For right wings we’re not white enough. For left wings we’re not brown enough. For Muslims we’re not Muslim enough. And by not being enough, it means that we’re not worth talking about.
I was really disappointed with the liberals (not the politicians. I mean civilians. I expect nothing from western politicians). You claim you care about what happens in the world, you claim that we should come together and talk about the human rights problems around the world specially after neglecting Palestine for years. And yet most of my encounters from westerners online is either passive aggressiveness or micro aggressions. And these from the people who claim they are social justice activists online, who pride in their leftism. Where are you then? POC solidarity? Marginalized groups solidarity? What a fucking joke
Just a little note on the race/skin color of Iranians, considering how obsessed everyone is on finding that out; Iran is a multiethnic country. We are what remains of an ancient civilization (Ancient Persia). Invasions have happened from both sides over the span of centuries, from Europe to Asia (East, West, South you get it). Some other ethnic groups of other countries have migrated to Iran over the centuries and have been integrated as part of Iranian ethnic groups (Armenians, Georgians, Arabs, ethnic Jews and Christians etc). We have people with different skin colors and facial structures and body types all over the country. For example in one of my school friend groups, one of us was brown, the other had monolid eyes and a face structure typically associated with East Asians, I myself have olive tones, and another one as pale as the wall. I also had friends with colored eyes and blond/red hair (cuz you know…world war and the invasion of Brits and Russians). My point is, asking what 'race' we are or what our typical skin color is, is a weird question. If you go to Tehran people tend to be predominantly white. You go south and people get darker and darker and even get to black. I myself am from the north and in our schools I saw different skin and eye color and facial structures. Does that answer everybody’s question? I’m tired of people trying to calculate how white Iranians are so that they can decide to care. Can we move on now?
