Trying out a couple of samples from Cristina @artsbymcm Colors used were, Ocean (a beautiful light blue from the Summer Vacation palette that leans toward turquoise) Blue Slate, a keen grayish blue with granulation, Nox 🤩🤩🤩, and just a hint of Jasper. That Nox and Blue Slate make beautiful granular shadows and reflections on the water! Sunset through the trees from our deck two nights ago. The deck on the back of our home faces almost due West. It’s a great place to watch colors of the sunset through the trees and over the neighborhood houses year round. @stoneworks_mill paints on peach toned St. Armand Canal paper measuring roughly 1-3/4”X2-1/2”. The peach color looked so close to the pink/orange in the sky! #worldwatercolormonth This is my prompt number 1 in support of WWM. The prompt is Primary Palette. In my @stillmanandbirn heavy mulitimedia pocket pad, I used only red, Yellow and blue from the @stoneworks_mill Luminous Palette to create all the colors in this fan art. I also used a Stoneworks Mill crayon as a resist on the blank page to reserve spots for the eyes and teeth before I started painting. Worked perfectly! For those who aren’t deeply invested in The Beatles, this is my version of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds from the animated feature film Yellow Submarine. Here’s another one for the “Cristina @artsbymcm never thought she’d see her paints used for that” file. Ghost Rider on the slick side of a comic book board. The slick side isn’t the best for watercolor work, but if you can finesse it enough the results can be pretty cool. Flames and bolts of electricity can be especially exciting on this slick surface. I’m practicing up for Free Comic Book Day this weekend. Local artists, including myself, will be at our local shop to do free sketches on comic backer boards throughout the day. The trick is to capture the essence of the character quickly so the line can keep moving. That means I have to practice up all week. The fact that I like to do mine with watercolor paint does not help me any on speed either. 😜 I’m looking forward to Free Comic Book Day! Look it up in your area. I created this monochromatic painting using a fantastic color named “Nefarious” This watercolor paint is made by Maisy @lighthousecovewatercolors I am fascinated with the color and the granulation! Nefarious is part of a palette named “Silent Film” and I thought it would be fun to paint a drop dead gorgeous actress from the silent film era. I had to Google it and came up with Carla Laemmle (swipe right to see the internet photo I used for reference) I used a Rosemary & Co. Squirrel mop travel brush almost exclusively for this. It can lay down a thick or thin wash as well as do fine details.
