#waughahaugahhh#ok going to try to be semi coherent now...#cordelia is not a performer; despite her aspirations she was always a terrible actor#and she rejected that dream in 'belonging' because hollywood men treated her like an object#but jasmine turns her into a site of performance; she literally object-ifies her#ats s4 is interested in theatre (insofar as ats s4 is at all coherent as a narrative)#how many times do the characters reference othello and oedipus rex?#'there should be a play' angel says. buddy you're in it. and cordelia's the unwilling star#both angel (sans soul) and skip as jasmine's agent posit a theory of reality as tragic theatre#in which people are merely character puppets lacking true free will and doomed from the start to play out their roles#(see also: 'i don't dance. i echo.')#in cordelia's case her free will is literally and wholly subsumed by jasmine's possession and performance of her#like the prima ballerina from witw she is the favorite the most beloved of the one who pulls the strings#it is a terrible fate to be the favorite#and with the end of jasmine's performance of cordelia her story (as plotted by jasmine) draws to a close. the curtains fall.#still. she is not quite done. it is gunn not angel or skip who is right about free will in the end#cordelia gets to give one last encore. hers not anyone else's. and then she walks out of the theatre for good#she transcends the narrative and in doing so she gives angel & co. the tools to transcend their narratives too#cordelia was never a good actor. but she was always very good at being cordelia.#and that's something no one not even jasmine could ever take away from her. @moistvonlipwig

It's just that what you have to understand about animorphs is that the most important thing about animorphs barely happens in animorphs. The most important moment in animorphs is when marco's dad says that in the year before his wife died he and his wife stopped fighting, their relationship became smooth sailing, it was like all the little things that any couple has trouble with just disappeared, and marco (maybe 14? 15? at this point?) listens to him say this and understands with cold certainty that what actually disappeared a year before his mother's ''death'' was his mother. This declaration from his father gives Marco a timeline for a familial trauma he had never before been able to fully parse, which is the precise moment in his life when his mother's body was taken over by a brain controlling slug from outer space--hey. hey. stay with me. look at me. look at my eyes. don't worry about the alien slug. just keep reading. this is a chilling and deeply compelling statement about patriarchy and colonialism and you have to not worry about the slug--anyway Eva Animorphs (an immigrant woman of color) lost all control of her life and voice and body and that was, in reality, the moment that Marco lost his mother to a colonial power, the moment he lost his childhood, the moment he and his mother lost their home, which even after winning the war they will never return to, but his father never understood that moment as anything but a mysterious sudden increase in harmony in his household. Because his wife stopped arguing with him.

Do you think Cordelia should have been mad at the Fang Gang after the events of season four?

Sorta depends what you mean by "should" I guess! From like, a moral high ground perspective, I don't really know. Like I think you can justify them not being more suspicious about her behaviour with the fact that they're facing an apocalypse that season and have a whole lot of other shit to worry about and so on. Plus as much as it is shitty that they don't realise anything wrong with her I am inclined to be like it's not their fault your honour the writing was just bad. It's not their fault the writing made everyone fucking stupid.

If we're talking purely from a character perspective, though.... yeah absolutely lmao. She should have been pissed. Like not to be on my possession horror shit again but I think there is a lot of untapped potential in the genre when it comes to the horror of "What if you were no longer yourself, and the people who loved you didn't even notice?" - like that's such a visceral and disturbing thought that you could get such great characterisation out of, and I think if the writers cared about Cordy as a person at this point at all they should probably have done something with that.

Also like not to put too fine a point on it but all the other horrific shit aside, I do think if I found out that my closest friends in the world all thought that (folding ideas guy voice I am going to say the next part without questions, commentary, or asides) having sex with my best friend's teenage son who I helped raise as a baby was something that I would do and the idea that I'd do that raises no suspicions.... I do think that would break me psychologically. I cannot lie to you

it’s that time of year again!

EIGHTH jenny day in a row what is HAPPENING. going to really have to think of something special when we hit the ten-year mark!!!! this year i am really struck by how there is such a Definitive Little Corner of calendiles fans on the internet and how much i adore you all and how excited i am to watch this post inevitably get passed around by the #squad. and also hopefully other people of course too.
