2024 Patio Trends: Blending Indoor And Outdoor Spaces
According to Houzz, the demand for outdoor spaces has increased by 50% since 2020, signaling the growing popularity of seamless indoor-outdoor living. This reflects homeowners’ increasing desire to create a harmonious living environment by integrating the natural beauty and open feel of the outdoors with the comfort and aesthetics of indoor places.

New 2024 Patio Cover Trend: The K-BANA™ Manual Roof
The preference towards blending interior and exterior areas emphasizes the significance of design components that establish a coherent whole. A smooth indoor-outdoor transition requires extending flooring materials from interior to outdoor spaces, utilizing complementary or comparable color schemes, and incorporating natural components like stone and wood.
Like Azenco Outdoor’s K-BANA™ Manual louvered Roof, you may match the manual louvered pergola’s floor color to your patio’s. These architectural choices create a harmonious transition between indoor and outdoor surroundings and improve the visual appeal of living areas.

Additional Features That Makes The Difference
The practicality of these spaces is also greatly improved with the addition of features like  BBQ island kitchen, fire features, fire bars, fireplaces, fire pits, fire grills, fire rings, pizza ovens, BBQ grills, griddles, smokers, cookers, rotisserie, refrigerators, heaters, sinks, patio covers, outdoor accessories and cozy seating. With the addition of these options, living space is expanded beyond the typical boundaries of the house, offering new opportunities for entertainment, relaxation, and taking in the scenery. Retractable screens increase the adaptability of your pergola and make it easier for homeowners to adapt to shifting weather patterns and personal preferences.
Architectural features like motorized louvers enable seamless interaction. Simple transitions between natural light are made possible by Azenco Outdoor’s R-BLADE™ motorized louvered pergola, allowing dynamic interactions between interior and outdoor areas.
Embracing Multifunctionality And Customization In Patio Design
A statistic from the National Association of Realtors (2023) shows how the world of home design is always changing: 64% of homeowners currently want their patio to serve several purposes, a percentage that is predicted to increase by 5% in 2024.
Multifunctional patios are becoming the heart of the home, hosting everything from quiet, sunny meditation sessions to outdoor offices and mostly lively evening soirees under the stars.

Covered Functional Outdoor Kitchen
Customization is at the heart of outdoor living, a trend shaped by modern homeowners’ interests and lifestyles. Based to the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA), 75% of millennials have expressed an interest in outdoor kitchens in 2023. The number of entertainment areas has risen by 40% since 2021, suggesting an increase in interest for personalized patio spaces that expand beyond functionality.

Pergola Customization
Patio customization possibilities are endless and adaptable to a wide range of design preferences. Azenco Outdoor’s R-SHADE™ insulated roof pergola provides architectural elegance and shade, while the R-BLADE™ louvered pergola offers a breezy feel. From integrated fire pits to comfy seating areas, each feature can be customized to meet the homeowner’s needs, transforming the patio into a real extension of the home’s living space.
The distinction between indoors and the outdoors is fading away as personalization and customization become more and more significant. Today’s homeowners seek solutions that represent their aesthetic preferences while also meeting the necessities of their specific lives. The opportunity to customize their outdoor buildings and furniture so that each space is not only functional but also a true statement of personal style and vision.

Smart Solutions: Technology Enhances The Patio Experience
With 82% of homeowners interested in outdoor innovation (NKBA, 2023) and a $154.4 billion worldwide smart house industry (Statista, 2023), smart solutions are becoming a growing trend in patio design. From motorized louvers to integrated LED lighting, technological advancements are transforming the way we interact with and enjoy outdoor areas.
Tumblr media
Home Automation Extends To Outdoor Spaces
Outdoor automation takes the lead, providing both convenience and efficiency. Motorized louvers offer personalized shading solutions, allowing homeowners to control sunlight exposure and ventilation to their liking. Integrated LED lighting not only lights the patio area but also provides energy-efficient solutions that help to save costs and promote sustainability.
With the development of smart controls and voice-activated assistants, it is now possible to operate patio amenities such as lighting or heating and cooling elements with simple voice requests or at the touch of a button, adding ease and refinement to outdoor living areas. Smart solutions allow homeowners to take their patio experience to the next level by providing the ideal environment for entertaining guests.
Future-Proofing Your Patio Investment: Durability And Adaptability
Durability and adaptability are crucial factors for homeowners wanting to invest in their outdoor areas in the fast-growing outdoor living product industry, which is estimated to reach $26.8 billion by 2027 (Freedonia Group, 2022). As the business expands, the demand for long-lasting, adaptable patio structures increases. These 2024 patio trends are demonstrated by Azenco Outdoor’s durable, weather-resistant aluminum pergola structures, which not only provide greater longevity but also have a modular design that allows for future customization.
The growing patio trends such as versatility, customization, and smart technology are key. Having spaces that adapt easily to our needs, whether for a peaceful retreat or lively social gatherings is becoming a must-have. With smart tech integration, convenience is at every homeowner fingertips, making outdoor living both sophisticated and sustainable.

6 Tips for Turning Your Garage Into an Outdoor Kitchen
There are many reasons to convert your garage into a kitchen. Especially if it’s attached to a garage you rarely use. It can become just another place to put your crap. So why not convert that space into something that can be used to cook outdoors year round??
You’ll be able to create more square footage in your home and maybe even have a dining room. If your original kitchen was too small, you’ll be able to expand your work area and create the kitchen you’ve always dreamed of having. Once you’ve decided you want to turn your garage into a kitchen there are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind as you go about your project. Here are a few tips.
Understand the Basics of Your Conversion
Make a list of all the things you currently keep in your garage. You’ll want to find homes for all that stuff. If you are storing stuff that could easily be stored in a shed and you have one, then it’s just a matter of moving that to the shed.
If you don’t have a shed, you might consider renting a storage unit or building a shed on your property. There are many big box stores that sell storage shed kits that will suit your project nicely. You’ll also want to understand the total cost of your conversion. You’ll want to research how to finance home improvement because you’ll most likely be getting a loan to complete this project.
You’ll also want to research any building codes or permits you may need to obtain through the city, county, or HOA you belong to. There may be restrictions you aren’t aware of and could cause you heartache and more expense if you don’t follow the rules.
Look at Your Load Bearing Walls
If your garage and kitchen share a wall and you are considering knocking out the wall between them, you’ll want to review your building plans to make sure you aren’t removing or damaging a load bearing wall.
A load bearing wall is one that is critical to holding the whole structure up and in place. If you happen to remove the wrong parts, you could risk part of your home collapsing. Most homes have plans that have been submitted to the city or county offices and can be reviewed.
If you had your home built, you’ll probably already have a set of plans that were used to build it. You’ll want to review it with a contractor to ensure you’re removing or changing the right parts to a load bearing wall.
Don’t Forget About Insulation
Most newer homes have well insulated garages, but there are still a few homes around that don’t. You’ll want to be sure to get the right R-rating insulation to keep your new kitchen insulated from the cold outdoors. Depending on where you live, you’ll need to research what R-value insulation is appropriate.
Getting the wrong insulation means a colder room and higher heating bills. Not to mention the possibility of water pipes breaking. Your kitchen will have plumbing fixtures that will need to be protected.
Check the Windows
If your garage has windows, you’ll want to consider upgrading them to good solid double pane windows. If you’re going to be installing windows, you’ll want to review where your electrical wires run so you don’t end up having to reroute or cut lines. You don’t always have to buy new windows to get what you need. Many construction outlets will have returns and craigslist is a great place to search for the right window at the right price.
Decide on Kitchen Appliances
Are you going to replace all your kitchen appliances? Perhaps you just bought that new dishwasher a year ago and it still runs like a dream. Consider smaller appliances like a sink disposal and trash compactor when you’re planning your layout.
All of these types of appliances will need to be situated to best utilize the existing structure. Perhaps your kitchen drains are easily accessible once you tear down the wall between the garage and the kitchen. If this is the case, then you’ll want to situate your sink where you are able to plug directly into the existing drains.
This saves a bunch of time and money from having to route new drains to the exterior. Your water faucets will probably be the same, too.
Don’t Forget the Time Factor
When you’re planning this conversion, consider that at some point, your kitchen won’t be available to use. It could take a few weeks to get everything in place to work again. If you don’t have a plan for this time, you might be in hot water with your family, let alone uncomfortable yourself.
This doesn’t have to happen. You can consider working in stages, so that each stage has a short period of time that the kitchen isn’t used and then it’s usable again. Repeat this until you’ve finished the project. Or you may consider putting your family up in a rental while you finish the job. If you’re able to afford that, it’s a viable option. Whatever the outcome, don’t forget that at some point, both your garage and your kitchen won’t be usable.
If you aren’t using your garage for its intended purpose and you’ve decided to make use of that space to extend your home and build a kitchen, you’ll need to remember these tips to help you create the best experience for your project and for your family.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a garage typically included in the square footage of a house? In most cases, the square footage of your home includes only livable spaces. So, a garage would only count toward the square footage of a home if it is finished (with flooring, walls, heat, and electricity) and has been legally converted into a living space.
Can I convert my garage without a permit? The answer depends on where you live and the scope of your project, so check with your local zoning department before making any changes. If you are making structural or electrical changes, moving or adding plumbing, or installing HVAC, you will likely need a permit.
Will converting my garage add value to my home?Again, the answer depends on where you live and what type of space you are building. If your garage conversion is properly permitted and performed professionally, it can add interest and valuable square footage to your property. If, however, your neighborhood has limited street parking or your home has limited storage, a converted space might negatively impact the value of your home.
How much does it cost to convert a garage? On average, it will cost between $5,000 and $26,000 to convert an unfinished garage into a livable space. If you are installing new floors, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing, that cost could climb to $50,000 or more depending on the project and the size of the space.

Combining Pool Landscapes with an Outdoor Kitchen Can Be the Perfect Recipe for the Ultimate Backyard Experience. BBQ Bill's is a construction contractor that can build your dream custom outdoor kitchen, BBQ island kitchen and outdoor fire features that will turn your poolscape into summertime fun!
Every homeowner dreams of spending the nice weather outside relaxing and having fun with friends and loved ones. Some of the greatest aspects of a backyard can either be the pool or the outdoor kitchen. Both greatly enhance the outdoor lifestyle. Are you wondering which will have more of an impact? The answer is: both. As you plan out your next landscape renovation, take a look at the big picture. Here’s how combining pool landscapes with an outdoor kitchen can be the perfect recipe for the ultimate backyard experience in Reiffton, PA.
What’s better than combining fun in the sun with a delicious meal? Not much. All you need is a pool with amenities that meet your family’s needs; and a comfortable patio (whether there’s one main patio or an outdoor living patio and a pool patio) the space should be safe and comfortable, and spacious enough to comfortably house your favorite activities.
Customized Cooking Options
Not everyone wants the grill to be the centerpiece of outdoor living. And so, the right outdoor kitchen for you could be vastly different from the perfect outdoor kitchen for your neighbor. Choose your appliances and amenities to suit your cooking style, and you’ll find that cooking outdoors takes on a new flavor.
Shelter
It may happen when the kids are splashing away in the pool. It may happen when you’re relaxing in a hammock in the corner of your backyard. No matter what, an outdoor living space needs a place to take shelter when the weather takes a turn for the worse. A pavilion acts as the perfect bridge between the pool and the outdoor kitchen. It’s a place where everyone can relax and refresh themselves in between all the outdoor activities. The pavilion can even house the outdoor kitchen itself and it may have an extension that hangs over the pool. You could even install a swim-up bar that brings the pool even closer.
Cozy Warmth
An outdoor fireplace is an essential feature for an outdoor living space. The outdoor fireplace provides substantial warmth and ambient light, which comes in handy when the breeze picks up and the sun goes down. An outdoor fireplace is a large masonry structure that can be fueled by either wood or natural gas and there are advantages for either one.
An outdoor fireplace can become even more exciting when you combine it with the outdoor kitchen. The addition of a wood-fired pizza oven that produces much more than hot and bubbly pizzas can take your outdoor kitchen to a new level.
Bar Seating
By far, bar seating is the most popular option for outdoor kitchens where the chef and guests want to be together while a delicious meal is being prepared. An L-shaped or U-shaped outdoor kitchen will easily accommodate a crowd, and this design also creates more prep space for the outdoor kitchen.
An Entertainment System
With all the swimming, eating, and relaxing soon to be going on, you and your loved ones are going to be spending quite a bit of time outdoors this summer. When an important game, series finale, or a chance to watch your favorite movie comes around, let your outdoor living space be the theater for all the action. An entertainment system sheltered in the pavilion can integrate all aspects of your pool and outdoor kitchen together to help make your backyard become the favorite destination for your friends and family.

What to look for when buying a gas and charcoal combo grill
✔️ Type: The most common type of gas and charcoal grill combo is the side-by-side grill, which has separate compartments for charcoal and gas grilling that function independently. Convertible gas and charcoal grills can switch between charcoal and gas grilling configurations via removable trays or burner systems that can be swapped out to accommodate either type of grilling. Both of these styles can be found in the built-in grill category, which is designed to be installed into outdoor kitchen islands for a seamless, integrated look. All types can have smoker options, whether as an offset attachment or the ability to simply add wood chips to the charcoal bed.
✔️ Materials: Opt for a grill constructed with durable materials such as heavy-duty stainless steel and porcelain-covered grill plates for durability and rust resistance.
✔️ Warranty: Reputable manufacturers stand behind their products with robust warranties. Look for a grill backed by a warranty of at least five years that covers essential components like gas burners and ignition systems, which are prone to early wear and tear.
✔️ Accessories: Enhancements like a one-touch ignition system, warming racks, side burners, fold-out side tables and ample utensil storage can elevate your grilling experience.
✔️ Price: As much as possible, prioritize quality over affordability. Budget-friendly combo grills may compromise construction and longevity, leading to premature breakdowns and rusting. Invest in a high-quality grill that you can afford.

Are gas and charcoal combo grills worth it?
While combo grills offer the allure of gas and charcoal grilling in one package, they come with trade-offs. To maximize your investment, make sure you will regularly utilize both cooking methods, and weigh the pros and cons before deciding whether this type of grill is right for you.
Pros:
You'll get the speed of gas and the smoky taste of charcoal in one appliance.
A combo grill is more economical than purchasing separate gas and charcoal grills.
You'll conserve space on your porch or patio with one grill instead of two.
Cons:
Like nearly any appliance that offers multi-mode cooking, combo grills perform averagely across both methods and excel at neither gas nor charcoal grilling.
Combo grills are often larger and bulkier than a single grill of either type, which can potentially pose challenges in smaller outdoor spaces.

FIRST THINGS FIRST... WHAT DO WE MEAN BY “MODERN?”
Tumblr media
Before we rattle off about modern design ideas… It’s important to understand the meaning of the different terms used.
Modern: Relating to the present or recent times as opposed to the remote past. A departure from traditional styles.
Modern Design: A popular era of design from the 1950s-60s with a focus on minimalism and clean lines.
Modern Architecture: A style of building that emphasizes function and a streamlined form over ornamentation.
Contemporary Design: Constantly evolving to reflect the popular styles of present day design. Currently, minimalism in shades of gray, beige, and white are in vogue.
Although the terms are different… “Contemporary” and “modern” are often used interchangeably.
Considering present-day design is quite similar to modern design tropes of the 20th century… It makes sense.
In some cases, the differences are nearly indistinguishable. Especially when it comes to outdoor kitchens.
In our current day and time… Modern outdoor kitchens focus on clean lines. They’re more geometric than irregular.
But what else can you expect? What are the “cool” outdoor kitchen designs like these days?
If you want more know-how on making your outdoor kitchen modern… Let’s see what’s in, and what’s out. https://rtaoutdoorliving.com/modern-outdoor-kitchen-islands/
This tiled outdoor "kitchen island" was designed to blend in, but it's the stand-out of this backyard
Tumblr media
Blending into the surrounding landscape and bringing a bit of luxury to the backyard, it's pretty near perfect and I'm convinced it's the answer to summer entertaining. To find out more about this modern home's outdoor design, I speak to the principals of And And And, Daniel Rabin and Annie Ritz.
The outdoor kitchen
The fully functional outdoor kitchen comes complete with refrigerated drawers, a drinks sink, ample storage for towels for the pool, a kitchen section and hob, and even an ice maker. Clad in ceramic jewel green tile, this outdoor kitchen area is a focal point of this California yard. The tiling is a great option for cladding the island, requiring little maintenance given the sunny California climate, and bringing a natural feel to the space, almost blending with the surrounding cacti, Canyon Prince grasses and Douglas fir.
Located in a cozy corner of the backyard, the outdoor kitchen creates a focal point in the backyard and entertainment zone. 'The existing pool area from the 50s was a lot of concrete without definition or real purpose,' explain Daniel and Annie. 'We created the outdoor kitchen as a terminus to one such area - it receives beautiful California light at dusk and frames the greenery while adding warmth to the pool deck.'
'The outdoor kitchen allows the family and guests to come together while they may be entertaining or cooking a family meal, and all be in the same space.'
The materials
For the surface of the kitchen, a ceramic tiling in dark verdant green was chosen from Heath Ceramics. The finish was picked specifically to bring a subtle sheen to the space. 'The green was chosen as it ties the outdoor natural colors into the built environment,' the designers explains.
To beautifully balance against the local fauna, the shelving is made from Douglas fir, an evergreen native to the area. 'Green pairs with the wood used the same way leaves pair with a tree. It is reminiscent of the landscaping in the backyard and helps brings the space together.'
The materials blend with other spaces in the backyard too, including a seating area where a firepit is also clad in the same green tiling and an L-shape sofa in the same wood paired with subtle, pale pink upholstered cushions.
'We always approach design holistically and seek to create distinguished, purposeful spaces that align materially.'
'The goal was for the interior spaces to have a strong connection to the outdoors. We thought it was important to have beautiful natural colors and materials throughout the space as a reflection of the surrounding environment.'
The lighting
Illuminating the outdoor kitchen is backyard string lighting that highlights the sheen of the tiles come evening time, and emphasizes the entertainment space further. The light also means guests can still enjoy the entertainment zone as dusk falls. The fairy lights are placed on the top of a pole to create a web of light that shines light directly downwards.
This means the kitchen can be used whatever the light, and given the balmy temperatures, this makes al fresco dining plausible throughout the evening. 'They have gorgeous sunsets from the outdoor kitchen too,' add the designers. https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/tiled-outdoor-kitchen-island-designed-083023428.html
The 'grill island' is the next big outdoor cooking trend that will make entertaining in your backyard even better
Tumblr media
Ever fancied jetting off on a sunny escape to a grill island? No, these aren't barbecuing vacations spent on golden sandy beaches, they're actually far closer to home; these clever contraptions can be enjoyed from the comfort of your own backyard.
Barbecue islands, sometimes known as grilling stations, are the best way to enjoy alfresco dining in style. If you want a beautiful landscape garden that incorporates your grill rather than it sticking out like a sore thumb of stainless steel, then these appliances are for you. Grill islands are essentially a kitchen island, but for your outdoor kitchen, often available in modular or prefabricated units but sometimes also built-in too, and they're set to be the hottest outdoor trend this summer.
To find out more about barbecue islands, from the best gas grills to blend into your space to natural wood-fired options for a smokey flavor, we spoke with a few outdoor design experts.
Lilith Hudson Junior Writer
Lilith is an expert at following news and trends across the world of interior design. She's committed to sharing articles that help readers make the best shopping choices in their homes and backyards. For this piece, she asked experts why grill islands are set to be the hottest destination this summer
WHAT IS A GRILL ISLAND?
They're the outdoor appliance everyone's talking about, but what actually is a grill island? 'Grill islands are outdoor cooking and entertaining spaces that typically feature a built-in grill, counter space, storage, and other amenities,' says Ivo Iv, design expert and founder of Decor Home Ideas. 'They can range from simple designs with just a grill and a few shelves to elaborate structures with multiple cooking surfaces, sinks, refrigerators, and even outdoor TVs.'
RECOMMENDED VIDEOS FOR YOU...
These professional-worthy barbecuing stations differ from your standard outdoor kitchen because they're typically not permanent fixtures and are usually portable, meaning you can easily store them away during the colder seasons and move them to a spot in your backyard that suits you.
WHY ARE GRILL ISLANDS TRENDING?
The trend for outdoor living has been on the mind of many homeowners in recent years, so it's no surprise that we're looking for more ways to embrace cooking, relaxing, and entertaining in our backyards - and grill islands do just that.
'In California, where the weather is nice almost all year round, we’ve seen a huge uptick in outdoor kitchen requests,' says landscape architect Michael Pon of Michael Pon Consulting and Landscape Architecture. 'Grill islands, of course, are the next level after a free-standing grill and are great because they allow for better prepping and a full outdoor experience.'
But what really sets them apart from standard grills is their aesthetic designs. With wooden styles for a more natural look to stone-effect facades that blend beautifully with your rock garden, the various different designs on offer mean there will be one to compliment your space. 'From a design standpoint, you can build concrete and stone islands into the existing landscape and make a beautiful seamless indoor-outdoor kitchen,' Michael adds.
'I think they are great depending on the space,' adds Los Angeles-based designer Linda Hayslett of LH.Designs. 'It helps with smaller spaces to incorporate a cooking area while having a place for people to sit and hang-out while people are barbequing.'
WHERE SHOULD YOU PUT A GRILL ISLAND?
So where should you incorporate a grill island? While the main factor when deciding where to put regular grills concerns practicality, with a grill island you'll also want to consider your landscaping ideas.
'As far as placement goes, I always survey the existing landscape,' Michael says. 'Placement should be somewhere where views can be best enjoyed but close enough to the backyard entrance, for convenience's sake.' That said, safety should always be a priority. 'You always want the grill, whether it’s gas or charcoal, at least 10 feet away from any railings or structure,' Michael notes. https://www.livingetc.com/news/grill-islands

Outdoor Gas or Electric Patio Heaters: Which One is Right for Me?
BBQ Bill's offers a range of outdoor patio heaters to help you keep your outdoor space warm in cool weather and well-lit at night or overcast days. Our luxury portable patio heaters from Infratech, Sunpak, Dimplex, Bromic and Lynx are built with durability and reliability to withstand the elements and provide warmth for years.
Patio heaters are a great choice when it comes to extending the outdoor season. However, one of the key questions many people ask is whether gas or electric patio heaters might be the better choice. There are obvious benefits to both. Ultimately, which type works best will depend on the size of the area to be heated, existing power sources, and also personal preference in regard to appearance and control of the heater. Let’s take a look at some of the key arguments for each option. Electric vs. Gas Patio Heaters - Which should I choose? (bromic.com)
Electric outdoor heaters – versatile with outdoor appeal
One of the key advantages of having an electric patio heater is flexibility. There is very little an electric heater can’t do. With heat coverages of up to 160ft2, they’re great for smaller spaces that might not have a lot of natural ventilation as there is no concern over carbon monoxide emissions. They can also be used in areas prone to wind as there is no risk of the heater blowing out. A lot of the top end models can also be dimmed to ensure they offer just the right amount of heat. For even more control, pair your electric heater with your home automation system.
They also tend to offer more flexibility when it comes to mounting options as they require smaller clearances. As such they’re not only great underneath umbrellas or awnings but can also be recessed directly into flat ceiling. This makes them the ideal outdoor heating solution for design-focused spaces that want to preserve a sleek, minimal appearance. Once installed, they require very little maintenance other than a quick wipe-down or dusting to remove cobwebs. In addition, there are also electric heaters that are available in 316 marine-grade stainless-steel to reduce the risk of corrosion in harsh coastal environments.

Gas outdoor heaters – powerful with great coverage
Gas patio heaters come in either natural gas or propane versions and are known for their powerful heat output. Depending on their power they can heat spaces of up to 215ft2. Contrary to electric heaters they do require a least 25% of the space to be open to allow enough natural airflow for safe operation. They are therefore a great addition to larger, well-ventilated outdoor spaces, where they can be easily switched on and off via remote control or scheduled by a timer. While natural gas models will require to be attached to a gas line, portable propane models can run off an internal propane tank and can be moved around as required.  This also means they can be easily moved out of the way and stored away during summer.

Although gas heaters are still more susceptible to wind than their electric counterparts, models like Bromic’s Platinum Smart-HeatTM Gas, are equipped with ceramic fascias that not only protect the burner from wind, but also ensure that heat is spread evenly. Most manufacturers will recommend to inspect gas heaters on a regular basis to ensure there is no debris like spiderwebs or insects covering the heating elements and blocking the burner from sparking.

What about costs?
Running costs will vary per model and power output (wattage for electric and BTU for gas). In general, natural gas tends to be the cheapest way to heat a patio, followed by electric and then propane. Below is an estimate on how much it would cost to heat a 400ft2 patio with Bromic’s range of patio heaters.

Outdoor Heaters: Pros + Cons of Electric vs. Natural Gas vs. Propane
Cooler weather doesn't have to be the end of patio season. Outdoor heaters provide the necessary warmth to keep the party going, and there are plenty of different fuel types, as well as sizes and styles to choose from.
Discover some of the unique differences between outdoor electric, gas, and propane heaters. Decide which is more preferable for your home or business.

Questions?
Electric Outdoor Heaters
Electric outdoor patio heaters are exceptional at keeping your outside living areas warm during the fall, and even during winter for more temperate climates. For outdoor spaces that lack proper ventilation required for natural gas or propane heaters, adding an electric model is an exceptional choice.
These heaters come in a variety of styles from tabletop to freestanding, and wall mounted. Equipped with infrared bulbs, they produce instant radiant heat that warms objects instead of the air.
Place next to a deck chair and sip on your favorite hot beverage, enjoy watching the kids play a little longer outdoors, or host your fall dinner on the deck with the comforting warmth of an electric heater.
Pros + Cons of Electric Outdoor Heaters
Electric outdoor heaters have their own set of pros and cons to consider before purchasing.
Pros
Plug-and-go-Operation: Place the electric heater where you need it, and plug into any standard home outlet and you’re good to go.
Safe for Enclosed, Unheated Spaces: For outdoor patio that are enclosed and not well ventilated for gas heaters, electric outdoor heaters provide warmth suited for small spaces.
Easy to Use: Most of these heaters have simple touch-button controls and a single heat setting. Many include a remote control for even easier operation.
Cons
Limited Placement: Requires proximity to a compatible electrical outlet, so be sure to double-check the voltage requirement.
More Energy Use: Electric outdoor patio heaters run at a higher amp draw than other types of comfort products like fans and humidifiers.
Products We Love
EnerG+ offers outdoor heaters designed to look like patio tables or table lamps, and include a selection of wall or ceiling mounted models, and oscillating freestanding heaters.
Bromic is a well-known name in heating and their wall-mounted models are sleek and unobtrusive. All of these provide:
youtube
Instant, Silent Heat: Infrared heaters start immediately, quickly blanketing you with warmth, and operate soundlessly.
Safety Switches: Overheat and/or tilt safety switches automatically shut down the heater in case of accidental tip-over or detected excessive heat.
Designer Styles: Attractive, stylish designs are available for a number of patio decors.
The Bromic Tungsten Smart-Heat Infrared Patio Heaters are a customer favorite, and can be mounted on a wall near the ceiling. Plus, they’re safe for covered outdoor spaces as well. Available in black or white and several wattage options to ensure adequate heating.
EnerG+ Water Resistant Infrared Heater can be wall mounted or suspended from the ceiling in a covered outdoor area. It features a Gold bulb (vs. standard carbon) for more intense heat which lasts up to 5,000 hours, and uses a standard 120V outlet.
Another customer favorite is the Westinghouse Standing Patio Heater which provides 360-degree heat in a cool-touch, tower style. This freestanding outdoor heater is quick to set up and easily portable.
Natural Gas Heaters
Natural gas heaters provide plentiful warmth on well-ventilated outdoor decks and patios for homes with existing natural gas lines. These professionally installed heaters provide fast warmth for covered decks, patios, or other outdoor gathering spaces.
Their quiet, efficient heating is great for large parties, outdoor dinners, and just right for enjoying the great outdoors in fall & winter., and they are less expensive to operate than electric heaters. There are, however, some things to remember with natural gas heaters.
Pros + Cons of Natural Gas Heaters
Pros
Better Heat Output: Because of the combustion of natural gas, they have a greater heat output than electric outdoor heaters.
Unobtrusive Design: Most natural gas outdoor heaters feature sleek exteriors and blend in easily, making them excellent for outdoor bar decks, patios, and dining areas.
Cons
Professional Installation: Requires professional installation for safe operation and to prevent voiding the warranty.
Fixed Heating: Natural gas heaters are fixed or wall-mounted to permanent natural gas lines.
Ventilation: Needs to be placed in well-ventilated areas for safety.
There are several outdoor natural gas heaters that are incredibly powerful, energy-efficient, and useful for commercial and residential decks and patios. Further, they provide immense heating for outdoor spaces. Heat up outdoor restaurant decks quickly for restaurant patrons or create a stylish outdoor hangout area on your pool deck.

These powerful natural gas heaters are effective for job-sites and outdoor work areas as well as gathering spaces in homes and residential common areas.
Note: Most natural gas outdoor heaters require a technician to connect them to gas lines.
Propane Heaters
Outdoor propane heaters are available in many styles for greater flexibility and faster set-up. You can choose portable heaters which are great for camping, umbrella-style or wall-mounted heaters for outdoor dining or gathering spaces, or fire pits to warm decks, patios and other home and hospitality areas.
Pros + Cons of Propane Outdoor Heaters
Pros
Flexible: Choice of heater styles make these applicable in a wide variety of places including homes, businesses, and job-sites.
Propane Power Source: Independent use with propane tanks make them easy to place almost anywhere.
Cons
Restricted Tank Sizes: Propane tanks only last for a limited period of time depending on size and usage, and must be replaced from time to time.
Assembly & Set-Up: Some assembly and hook-up is required and, in some cases, professional installation, if connected to an existing, direct gas line.

Summary
No matter what type of space you need to heat, whether it's a large outdoor seating area for dining or gathering, or it's your home patio or deck, there is an outdoor heater which can add warmth and style. Electric infrared heaters are convenient to use when a power outlet is available. Choose wall-mounted, suspended, or freestanding styles. For outdoor spaces without electric power available, a natural gas or propane gas fire pit or standing heater is a great option. Outdoor Heaters: Electric vs. Natural Gas vs. Propane | Sylvane
