“Hair on this movie was one of the biggest challenges, but also the most fun. Considering many of the main characters in this movie are human, or are demigods who frequently resemble humans, there’s a lot of hair to animate. Moana herself is unlike a lot of other Disney characters. Like Mulan, she’s often messing with her hair, sometimes wearing it in a bun and sometimes allowing it to get drenched or blow in the wind. That’s a lot of different types of hair to animate, too, making the process even more challenging.”

“We are The Muses. Goddesses of the arts, and proclaimers of heroes.”

The Muses are presented in Hercules as five goddesses who narrate the movie. Calliope is the Muse of epic poetry, Clio is the Muse of history, Thalia is the Muse of comedy, Terpsichore is the Muse of dance, and Melpomene is the Muse of tragedy. There are actually nine major Greek Muses, and the ones that weren’t included in the film are Erato (the Muse of love poetry), Polyhymnia (the Muse of sacred poetry), Euterpe (the Muse of music and sound), and Urania (the Muse of astronomy).

Songwriter Alan Menken originally wanted The Spice Girls to voice the Muses, but scheduling difficulties prevented the collaboration from happening. Instead, they are voiced by Lillias White, Cheryl Freeman, LaChanze, Roz Ryan, and Vanéese Y. Thomas.

Mulan smiled. Tentatively, she reached for a wisp of hair that clung to Shang’s temple. She brushed it aside gently, and Shang caught her hand in his and brought it to his chest.

Mulan’s skin tingled.

“I’ll never meet another girl like her,” he said. “Now that the war is over, I’d be a fool to let her out of my sight.”

A surge of warmth swept over Mulan. She felt herself glow, felt the heat in her heart ripple through her veins and rush to her head. It was the strangest sensation. At first she strained to maintain control, for maybe she’d misunderstood Shang. Oh, she couldn’t tell. The ground was spinning and her heart was pounding so madly, maybe she’d imagined everything he’d said. But from the way he held on to her hand, the way he looked at her, waiting tensely for her answer, she knew she hadn’t imagined it. So she couldn’t control the giddiness of her heart, the swoop in her stomach, or the tremble in her knees. And her face broke into a smile.
