FIRST POST HAD WRONG OPENING DATE!! OPENING AT STELLARHIGHWAY GALLERY, IN BROOKLYN, IS NEXT SUNDAY, DEC. 11 2-4 Excited to announce the Opening next Sunday, Dec. 11, 2-4 at Stellarhighway Gallery, my solo show entitled, “Where Parting is No More”. It will run until January 29, 2023 This exhibition will feature a selection of paintings from 1989-1998 that use formerly damaged and discarded dresser back frames, that I refurbished and, in some cases, reconfigured to be able to introduce other elements to the work. My idea was to make the paintings more sculptural. No works from this series of 24 paintings have be shown together in the public sphere since the early 1990’s. It will be fantastic for me to see some of them installed in Stellarhighway’s charming gallery in Brooklyn. The images are of some of the paintings that will be included in the show. Come see them in person! The show will be up until January 29. 2023! “Where Parting is no More”, 1997. oil on board in painted wood frame, 28 x 23 inches “Down Under”, 1990, oil on canvas in wood frame with oil painted on wood panel insert, 45-1/2 x 34 inches “Flower Altar”, 1995, oil on canvas in painted wood frame, with dried flowers in the boxes, 40 x 34 x 7 inches. “Flower Altar”, DETAIL “Summer”, 1992, oil on canvas in painted wood frame with painted shelf and painted vinyl cow, 39 x 35 x 3-1/2 inches @stellarhighway @audgras @slaggallery @hannahtraore #oilpainting #tribecaartist #nyartscene #newyorkart #nyartistscircle #brooklyngallery #oiloncanvaspainting #contemporaryfigurativeart @storageartgallery @ddruick @ken_tisa @laurazoltan @dontstopbreedin @kingold.art @nyartistscircle @lylerexer @ericjshaw @roxasmith @artspiel @woartblog @labspace_art @alisonpirie @turrnerdouglas @the_artist_advisory @projectmaven1 @juliemckimprojects @yigalleryny @akeemduncan @quitelunch (at Brooklyn, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/Clyw9k8La2O/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

So happy to see my painting, “Signals From Parts Unknown”, in its new home with Laura Zoltan and Ben Reed. Was so much fun spending time with them both talking about my art and other things. A little while after they installed it they wrote to say, “We love it and have gotten so many compliments already”. Enjoyed the fun video they sent. Thanks to my daughter, Jasmin Way, for making the connection! @laurazoltan @dontstopbreed @jasminway @stellarhighway @audigras #oilpainting #tribecaartist #carolynoberst #nyartistscircle #womenartists #studioartist #contemporaryfigurativeart @slaggallery #nyartist https://www.instagram.com/p/ClhaCAsMOPS/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

So much fun to have an impromptu studio visit with my new neighbor, Onyedika Chuke, creator of the new and exciting Storage Gallery and his great assistant, Tiffany Jung, last night. I was in the middle of packing paintings, that I did in the 1990’s, and are heading to a gallery show in Brooklyn, and I thought he’d like to see some of the work before it was all wrapped. The wrapping was going on in my husband, Jeff Way’s studio, who graciously allowed the interruption. Such a great time talking to both of them and getting their impressions of the things in my studio, Jeff’s studio, and around the house. We’ve been collectors of all kinds of art, with a focus on the self-taught for many years. Exciting to have such a terrific new gallery, and gallery directory, on the block!! @storageartgallery #tribecagalleries #newyorkart #tribecaart #nycartscene @audigras @tiffany.jung #nyartistscircle @nyartistscircle #oiloncanvaspaintings #contemporaryfigurativeart #artiststudiospace (at Tribeca, New York City) https://www.instagram.com/p/CkwRhWnO1xn/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Opening tonight at Christ Episcopal Church, in their Historic Chapel, 90 Kings Highway, Middletown, NJ, my series of paintings from the early 90’s titled, “The Crosses We Bear”. These paintings were my response to the then brewing problems of global warming and climate change. To call attention to these issues I used the cross shape apart from its usual religious association as a powerful symbol of pain and hope. Needless to say, these are even more pressing issues now. The painting above the altar is “Titled Crucified Tree”, 90”x59”, oil on shaped canvas. The large painting of the palm tree on fire, is titled “Burning the Tree of Life”, 93”x77”, oil on shaped canvas. All the other paintings are various sizes, oil on shaped canvas. There is some collage in the “Endangered Monarchs” painting. This is dated 1993. They are now on the endangered species list. All together there are 10 paintings and 4 framed works on paper in the show. The opening tonight is from 5:30-7:30 if you’re in the area. There will be a tent outside for refreshments. Other dates to see the show are Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30 and Saturdays from 10am-2pm. Also after usual worship services listed on their website. wwwchristchurchmiddletown.org A catalog is available. @christchurchmiddletownnj #christchirchmiddletown @revway #revway #endangered #endangeredspecies #savetherainforest #savethemonarchs #globalwarming #climatechange #climatechangeisreal #oilpainting #ecologicalart #artistsofinstagram #artistsforconservation @audigras @stellarhighway @slaggallery @the_artist_advisory @kin_gold (at Middletown, New Jersey) https://www.instagram.com/p/CjIxgf_rTSu/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

“The Crosses We Bear”, an exhibition of 10 of my cross shaped paintings addressing the subject of climate change, is being presented at: The Historic Church of the Christ Episcopal Church, 30 Kings Highway, Middletown, NJ 07748 (1 hr. From NYC by train or car) Opening September 30 from 5:30-7:30 and continuing through November 15, 2022. This series of unique paintings ranges in height from 15 to 93 inches, depicting landscapes, flora and fauna endangered due to climate change.  I was inspired to create these paintings in the early 1990s to raise awareness of the devastating effects that climate change was having on the planet. Using the cross shape separate from the religious association, connotes suffering as well as a call to action. I felt using a standard rectangle would not be the shout out I was looking for. Back then, it was not understood that the cross shape could reflect more than Christianity; that it had universal meaning, connoting both suffering and a call to action. Only recently have these paintings started to be shown. I had always felt that bringing them all together would make a powerful statement. Finally the time has come! I am thrilled to be able to see them in such a beautiful, spiritually endowed, venue, as The Historic Church of the Christ Episcopal Church in Middletown, NJ, built in 1836. “In and Out”, oil on canvas, 24x17 inches, new this summer. This painting is part of an evolving series of “Moments” taken from other paintings and re-worked. This was not a plan, just an impulse that seems to want to be an off-shoot series. Who knows? The paintings are the boss. An excerpt of the first painting, “How We Begin to Remember”, is shown here. Instagram could not fit the whole piece, but you can see where this painting came from. Here are two new paintings that will be up in my studio. Both are what I’m calling, “Annonymous Portraits”. The first is titled, “There’s Nothing Left to Say”, oil on canvas, 20x18 inches. The titled came from a sidewalk message I photographed on the LES. The second one is titled, “Dream Until It’s Your Reality”, oil on canvas, 20x18 inches. Strangely, when thinking about a title, another message Appeared on the sidewalk, this time in Tribeca.
