OC Questionnaire Tag
I was tagged by @i-can-even-burn-salad. Thank you for giving me an excuse to write more about Isola :D.
...
1. Do you have any nicknames you go by?
She sits down across from you, pint in hand, and takes a drink while maintaining eye-contact. Half the pint is gone before she rests it down on her knee and cleans the residue from her upper lip with her sleeve.
"If you don't know by now, you're either lucky, or not from Redsor. Either way, a legend doesn't disingenuously spread their own name, so I'll let you find out... naturally."
2. Have you ever been betrayed?
"Of course. One doesn't become a pirate any other way." Isola's eyeline escapes yours a moment, glancing away and down in a millisecond before returning to center.
"I've never met a brutal pirate who hasn't endured an even more brutal betrayal. It's par for the course--an effect to the cause. Beautiful, in a way."
3. What's your most prized possession?
At this, her smile stretches out.
"It's on my ship, safe and sound," her thumb flicks the glass resting on her knee. "for now."
...
tagging @world-of-fire-and-flight @whumpsday @wintherlywords @inadequatecowboy and OPEN TAG.
your questions, if you choose to use them (or you can choose the ones I answered):
If you could choose one day to relive that you would then forget, what would it be?
Choose a non-lethal & anonymous gift to send to your enemy that, upon opening, they immediately know who it's from. What is it?
What is their view of 'freedom'?

heads up everybody who uses taglists: tumblr's made a change where you can only tag 5 people per line of text. so if you have a taglist like this:
@persononeee @persontwoo @personthreee @personfourr @personfivee @personsixx @personsevenn
the last two people won't be tagged at all! in order to make sure everybody gets a notification, you can do it like this:
@persononeee @persontwoo @personthreee @personfourr @personfivee
@personsixx @personsevenn
remember to check your taglist after posting, preferably on the mobile app, where the difference between tagged and untagged users will be visually obvious.

Poison list
While it's important to approach writing with creativity and imagination, it's crucial to prioritize responsible and ethical storytelling. That being said, if you're looking for information on poisons for the purpose of writing fiction, it's essential to handle the subject matter with care and accuracy. Here is a list of some common poisons that you can use in your stories:
Hemlock: Hemlock is a highly poisonous plant that has been used as a poison in various works of literature. It can cause paralysis and respiratory failure.
Arsenic: Arsenic is a toxic element that has been historically used as a poison. It can be lethal in high doses and can cause symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, and organ failure.
Cyanide: Cyanide is a fast-acting poison that affects the body's ability to use oxygen. It can cause rapid loss of consciousness and cardiac arrest.
Nightshade: Nightshade plants, such as Belladonna or Deadly Nightshade, contain toxic compounds that can cause hallucinations, respiratory distress, and even death.
Ricin: Ricin is a potent poison derived from the castor bean plant. It can cause organ failure and has been used as a plot device in various fictional works.
Strychnine: Strychnine is a highly toxic alkaloid that affects the nervous system, leading to muscle spasms, convulsions, and respiratory failure.
Snake Venom: Various snake venoms can be used in fiction as deadly poisons. Different snake species have different types of venom, each with its own effects on the body.
Belladonna: Also known as Deadly Nightshade, Belladonna contains tropane alkaloids such as atropine and scopolamine. Ingesting or even touching the plant can lead to symptoms like blurred vision, hallucinations, dizziness, and an increased heart rate.
Digitalis: Digitalis, derived from the foxglove plant, contains cardiac glycosides. It has been historically used to treat heart conditions, but in high doses, it can be toxic. Overdosing on digitalis can cause irregular heart rhythms, nausea, vomiting, and visual disturbances.
Lead: Lead poisoning, often resulting from the ingestion or inhalation of lead-based substances, has been a concern throughout history. Lead is a heavy metal that can affect the nervous system, leading to symptoms such as abdominal pain, cognitive impairment, anemia, and developmental issues, particularly in children.
Mercury: Mercury is a toxic heavy metal that has been used in various forms throughout history. Ingesting or inhaling mercury vapors can lead to mercury poisoning, causing symptoms like neurological impairment, kidney damage, respiratory issues, and gastrointestinal problems.
Aconite: Also known as Wolfsbane or Monkshood, aconite is a highly toxic plant. Its roots and leaves contain aconitine alkaloids, which can affect the heart and nervous system. Ingesting aconite can lead to symptoms like numbness, tingling, paralysis, cardiac arrhythmias, and respiratory failure.
Thallium: Thallium is a toxic heavy metal that can cause severe poisoning. It has been used as a poison due to its tastelessness and ability to mimic other substances. Thallium poisoning can lead to symptoms like hair loss, neurological issues, gastrointestinal disturbances, and damage to the kidneys and liver.
When incorporating poisons into your writing, it is essential to research and accurately portray the effects and symptoms associated with them. Additionally, be mindful of the potential impact your writing may have on readers and the importance of providing appropriate context and warnings if necessary.

3 whumpy anime to check out this spring!
Tumblr media
Go Go Loser Ranger is a heroes vs. villains anime where the villains are the good guys and the heroes are downright evil. Having wiped out all the powerful monsters more than a decade ago, the heroes keep the weakest monsters captive, to parade around and torment on a weekly basis while the public believes otherwise. Because they're immortal when hit with most weapons, they'll always reform to be hurt over and over again, despite feeling all the pain.
Footsoldier D is one of those weak monsters, an immortal shapeshifter made of dust, called a "duster". After escaping the heroes' arena, he forms a plan to kill the heroes and steal the few weapons they have that can permanently kill dusters, freeing the rest of his kind. Given that he has the constitution of a porcelain doll, he can't use strength to fight: he has to rely on wits, stealth, shapeshifting (despite knowing very little about humans or the outside world), and a shaky alliance with a double-agent ranger who seems to be taking advantage of him for her own gain.
Whump tags: villain whumpee, hero whumper, immortal whumpee
Watch it on Hulu, Disney+, or any unofficial anime site.
And if you don't have time to check out a whole anime, the Go Go Loser Ranger opening theme video is also really good, with fantastic visuals symbolizing D's struggles!
Tumblr media
An Archdemon's Dilemma is a romantic comedy stuffed to the brim with popular whump tropes. Zagan is a demonic sorcerer who attends an auction for the possessions of another recently-killed sorcerer, when he sees that one of those "possessions" is an elf slave, Nephelia. Having had a destitute, harsh past himself, he feels a rush of sympathy and buys her way out, vowing to ensure her safety. However, Nephelia is terrified, believing she's about to be used as a sacrifice in a dark magic ritual. And unfortunately for both of them, Zagan is a socially awkward loser who sucks at communicating.
It's surreal seeing something that looks like it could be a caretaker-new-master whump fic as an actual, fully-realized anime. It definitely doesn't take itself too seriously despite the premise, leaning heavily on the "comedy" part of romantic comedy, and is mostly just a silly time with lots of whump-adjacent stuff thrown in. Fanfic-y to the point of "there's only one bed" being an actual line.
Whump tags: fantasy slavery (very pet-whump-esque in its tropes), caretaker new master
Watch it on Crunchyroll or any unofficial anime site.
Tumblr media
The Grimm Variations is an anthology of horror retellings of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales. With each episode being written and directed by different people, it varies wildly in quality, with episodes ranging from laughably bad to incredibly good, but I'm here to talk about episode 2: Little Red Riding Hood.
The Little Red Riding Hood takes place in a dystopian future where the upper and middle class use virtual reality technology to augment their reality. One man, Grey, is tired of this and craves the real: specifically, the feeling of real blood spraying him as he murders countless women, his wealth and connections protecting him from consequences. But when this serial killer makes the mistake of targeting a woman called Scarlet, he finds himself on the other side of the knife. This episode is a complete and utter gorefest with multiple onscreen torture scenes.
This isn't even my favorite episode of the series, it's like my 3rd favorite. But episode 2 is the one with the gruesome torture scene, so it's the one that goes in this post.
Little Red Riding Hood whump tags: whumper-turned-whumpee, torture, gore
Little Red Riding Hood warnings: sexual assault, eye gore, fingernail gore, violence against women, major character death
Watch it on Netflix or any unofficial anime site. Orrrr if you just wanna watch the big torture scene without any of the context, it's on Youtube.
that's all I have for now :)
(P.S: Dungeon Meshi, while not really whumpy as a whole, is also currently airing and very very good and I might write whump fanfic for it at some point in the near future. Netflix or any unofficial anime site.)

OC Questionnaire Tag
I was tagged by @mundanemoongirl <3
I'm gonna go with Damien, because I miss my guy. For him to answer this instead of grabbing the bags and running, this probably has to be set past a sequel I haven't written yet.
Tumblr media
1. What's the first time you rebelled in your life against the society and its expectations?
"Really? That's a question you want to ask the-"
He breaks off, unwilling to say the old name out loud, even now that he has been pardoned. He takes a deep breath.
"Society. That time I really said 'fuck it' wasn't towards society. It was towards my father's expectations, even if he was dead already. I looked at all the glass, and I knew I could never be what he had wanted me to be no matter how hard I tried, and I… I destroyed it all. Destroyed my life with it. Then everything was gone, and there was no way back, and I had nowhere else to go." He shrugs. "Didn't feel good for long. It never does."
2. What is something you miss the most from your childhood?
Damien pales a little, his gaze flicking towards Valadan who is looking at anything that isn't him. Perhaps his answer would have been different hadn't you asked that question while his brother is in the room.
"I miss the time before everything fell apart. Perhaps it wasn't right. Wasn't like it should have been. But it was all I knew. Telling stories with a bit of magic. Making pancakes with blueberries I gathered myself. Spending our days outside. Being… being my brother's hero."
Valadan has started to cry, and this time it's Damien who does his best not to look.
"I miss us trusting each other. Looking at each other without guilt."
3. What's your biggest regret in life so far?
"I don't know. How could I know? I made so fucking many mistakes. So many decisions, one worse than the other. I should want to… go back. Shouldn't I? So I wouldn't… would never... have hurt…" His voice breaks, and he needs a moment to gather himself. "What if," he whispers. "What if I had never had driven Valadan away. What if I had never listened to that recruiter. What if I had never become Ed's puppet. But. I'm here now. We all are here."
He looks up, meeting Valadan's gaze as a tear runs down his cheek.
"I regret my whole fucking life, but not what it led to. As long as I can have this. As long as I have my family, as long as they're happy." Ever since his return from Caldeia, he doesn't bother with the illusion anymore, and his right arm is missing, the fingers of his left hand clenched into a fist. "I wouldn't want to trade this life for one where I am unscathed but alone."
And still, his expression suggests that he wonders if this thought isn't a too selfish one.
Tumblr media
And since I did this one specifically to kill @starlit-hopes-and-dreams feel yourself tagged. Also tagging, @dont-touch-my-soup and @cryptidwritings if you want to do it, and open tag.
Your questions are:
1. Do you have any nicknames you go by?
2. Have you ever been betrayed?
3. What's your most prized posession?

Dark Water
Chapter 45 : Dignity
prev | next | masterlist
cw: derogatory use of the word 'whore', heavily implied noncon, implied past noncon, convinced (not quite forced) to drink.
...
The storm was still alive as Reid dragged Isidro back to the dock. His feet slipped in the mud as the horses brayed behind him; frightened by the most recent crack of thunder.
“Ye couldn’t even answer what ye were!” Reid laughed through the rain, “My brother pegged ye for a whore. Now I know he was right!”
Isidro's bloodied lips curled in a snarl, “Your brother was a fu- gah!”
Before he could finish, Reid had his hair in a fist, pulling his head back with the other around the chain behind his back. The sudden movement made him dizzy, and he fell back into Reid’s chest.
“Best not speak ill of ye future mates, aye? Seein’ as how ye just lost ye only one.”
The pirate slammed Isidro face-first onto the table. His heart drummed against his chest in a panic, catching in his throat as lightning flashed. The rain kept on it’s onslaught, pummeling Isidro down into the table where his body shook from the cold; running down his aching body and to his frozen toes.
Then the rain settled, and Isidro felt a warmth on his back, and the singe of pressure on his hand. He dared to look, realizing with horror that Reid was draped over him—lips pressed to his ear.
“Ye old boss knew what ye were good for.”
His voice had danger dripping from his lips. Isidro stilled, suddenly not cold at all. Instead he was focused on the feeling of Reid’s body on his, and the way his leg had found it’s way between his own, kicking them wide as he pinned him down.
“Maybe I should follow suit. Let any pirate that comes ashore have their way with ye.” Reid’s breath fell on him. “While I take my time with Theodora.”
Isidro trembled. Reid’s hands gently trailed down his scarred back before lingering at his waistline.
“In fact, I think I’ll like the way ye scream just as much as her.”
The threat made him try and wiggle out from underneath, earning the sharpness of Reid’s elbow in the middle of his back.
“No, no,” his low laugh rolled into the Isidro's ear, which carried to his heart that beat against his chest like the fist of a man buried alive.
Suddenly, he was reeling through the past, wondering what he had done to provoke this. The questions, and their possible answers, ensnared him into a suffocated, panicked silence.
He drowned in the ceaseless rain, unable to keep his broken sobs from falling over his swollen tongue which quickly turned into screams of pain mixed with sounds of desperation—a siren of the war within his body.
Isidro grit his teeth and retreated, allowing the pirate’s mocks to fade into the background; instead tuning in to the rain on his skin, and the wind wicking across his bare back that ached from the cold and sent a deep chill down his exhausted spine.
When the pirate tossed his spent body back into the water-logged cell, he curled in on himself, letting the water wash away the lingering burn of Reid’s fingers indented into his skin.
“See ye tomorrow, fish bait.”
Isidro lie in a heap, unable to feel much except for the throbbing of his hand and the burning hollowness at his center. He blinked, and retreated further, breathing out with an exhausted groan as another shiver wracked his wearied muscles.
“Y-yes, sir.”
...
Reid slammed the door and kicked off his muddy boots. Moss hadn’t moved, though now his legs were splayed out in a V, and his back was fully against the bottom of the frame.
The pirate passed by, making it to his bed where he changed out of his sopping clothes; stopping at his shirt. Bright red streaks of blood were in the fibers where he had leaned over the sailor’s severed fingers. He traced his thumb over the stain, then balled up the shirt and tossed it in the back of the fire.
The lad didn’t stir even after his shackle was loosed. Reid left the other side there even though it really didn’t belong on his dead brother’s bed. Maybe it would serve as a neat little reminder. He might’ve promised Moss a semblance of freedom, but he never said it would last.
“Ye still hungry?”
Moss shook his head.
The pirate retreated with a tired sigh and swiped a half-full bottle from the table. He sat down in front of the fire and leaned back, warming his toes as he uncorked it with his teeth. It went down with a splash.
“Full belly, liquor, a roaring fire, and some rain.” He twisted around to peer at Moss from his chair. “Can’t ask for much else, can ye, lad?”
Moss still didn’t look up.
“C’mere. Drink with me.”
“I'm fine, thanks.”
The usual bitter bite in his tone was gone, replaced by the flat response. Reid smirked, then took a small sip, wiping the pleasure off his face along with the small dollop on the back of his hand.
“Sure ye are,” He held the bottle out. “Ye friend lies to ye and ye jus' fine, aye?”
There was a pause, filled by the rain and the crackling fire. Then there came a quiet shuffle, and Moss’ arm appeared, stretching toward the bottle from his hands and knees. Reid pulled it away slightly, looking into Moss’ eyes before flicking out a finger towards the only other chair.
“Take a seat, lad.”
He didn’t argue. No one in their right mind would argue against a chair and a bed, but friendship and all the other sentimental garbage that comes with it clouds even a sane person’s judgement. He’d seen it; experienced it himself. It wasn’t worth the trouble.
Moss crawled, his bad leg trailing behind him awkwardly like an injured dog. He lift himself into the chair, releasing a pained groan as he slowly settled back, then sighed. His body looked tense, with unsure eyes muddied by the orange flame as he massaged the muscles around his wound. Another roll of thunder came and went.
Reid took a swig, then handed it over. Moss grabbed it and put it under his nose; coughing after he took a whiff. Then he drank, coughing again.
“More.”
He shook his head. “I can't.”
“Why not?”
“I don't want to.”
“Ye sure?”
Reid didn’t bother looking at him again, instead focusing on the fire, tossing in the memories of a moment ago as the remnants of his shirt were wicked up by the flames—carried up the chimney in a plume of black smoke.
The lad drank again. Then again.
Before long, Moss’ cheeks were painted with a bit of color stretching across his nose. His eyelids drooped, and his body settled into the chair.
Giving the lad a double dose of the powder was enough to knock him out hard enough to allow Reid to re-dress his wound. It was red and swollen, with swamp algae clinging around and inside it. He flushed it out, and Moss barely responded. If a little powder did that, he couldn’t wait to see what the liquor would do.
“Still not hungry?”
Another shake of the head, and the bottle dropped to the ground.
“Ye feel hurt.” Reid sighed, rocking with a bit of contemplation. “Can’t help that. Everyone has somethin’ to hide. ‘Specially the likes of him.”
Moss grunt. “Tha’s not what bothered me.”
“Oh?”
The lad shook his head. “I’m gonna lie down...” his eye flashed over to Reid, then back to the fire. “If that’s okay.”
Reid smiled. “Aye, lad. Just fine.”
He used the chair to stand, then limped away. His right foot hit the floor with almost his entire weight, making it only a few steps before he resolved to crawl again.
The door shut, and Reid pushed himself out of the chair and towards the small cupboard where another five full bottles were nestled, safe. He opened another and took a drink, letting it fill him out and lift him over to his bed just a few paces away.
The whole ordeal made him almost optimistic. He lie down, setting the bottle on the ground and smirked, not even bothering to lock the door before falling asleep.

WIP Questionnaire
Snatching up the open tag from @i-can-even-burn-salad and will make this one an open tag, also. Feel free to tag me if you do it.
I really need to make a list of people who would like to be tagged in stuff...
I can only do one WIP at a time, so of course this is for Dark Water, though I might re-do this for another WIP that I have in mind.
This got long, the rest of it (and the template) are under the cut.
What was the first part of your wip that you created?
Dark Water actually started as a present day one-shot where I was exploring the idea of a whumpee held captive on a small boat (think a personal one-man sailing boat), Adair and Moss both came from that. It eventually fell flat, but I still really enjoyed the concept and the characters. Once I put them in the right time period, everything else started revealing itself.
2. If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be?
This song was on REPEAT when I started it. Pretty sure it made it on my Spotify Wrapped that year.
youtube
3. Who are your favourite characters you've made? Why?
Moss: he's been through a lot, and has plenty of reasons to be angry and to just give up but keeps going anyway. He's more stubborn than optimistic, basically of the thought that if he casts a wide enough net then hes bound to catch something. His determination usually goes too far and ends up hurting himself, and others, in the process.
Isidro: loves his mom, loves his family, but was kept away from them due to no fault of his own but earned the self-loathing through all of his choices since then.
Theodora: She's strong, logical, a hard worker and self-reliant, all good and amazing things... when balanced. Unfortunately, she lives in a world that doesn't allow her to be anything else at the threat of her own survival.
Isola: She's emotionally cold, and tenacious for personal gain. She understands her place in the world, and where most would feel pangs of guilt or even second-guess their actions, she's unapologetic and convinced she's 100% right in her brutality. She's fun to write, fun to think about, and fun to describe. (the moment where her feet are up on a table with her boots dripping blood was in my mind for ages and I WILL get that commissioned someday. I have a mighty need.)
4. What other pieces of media do you think would share a fan base for your story?
I... don't know :,) . I'm really bad at following current and trending stuff because I have limited time when I'm not working, and I'd rather write than do anything else.
Low hanging fruit would be Pirates of the Caribbean, if you also like the idea of Davy Jones being a human woman. That's not spoilers, that's just how I see her.
5. What has been your biggest struggle with your wip?
The same struggle with every WIP... pacing. If I do a more official edit for Dark Water, that'll be what I tackle first.
6. Are there any animals in your story? Talk about them!
Ghost - Isidro's horse, is a brown mare with white front feet. His best friend, essentially.
Theodora's horses are unnamed, also her best friends.
A dog named Crow who will come up eventually. I've had the chapter where he comes up written for a long time because I needed to get it out of my head. I posted a sentence from that chapter forever ago thinking I only had a few chapters to go before getting there... the novel had other plans.
7. How do your characters get around? (ex: trains, horses, cars, dragons, etc.)
On foot or by horse... or unwillingly being pulled behind a horse on foot :)
8. What part of your wip are you working on rn?
The end of the second arc, ramping up to the beginning of the third. I'm on the cusp, like the moment before the rollercoaster begins going down, just sitting up there like... well this is taking forever, but the words aren't wording.
9. What aspects (tropes, maybe?) of your wip do you think will draw people in?
Sad wet cat of a man, buff but sad women, PIRATES, aroace main character who has a lot of displaced anger... sword fights.
10. What are your hopes for your wip?
That people will read it and go 'hell yeah' sometimes.
... TEMPLATE ...

3 Who are your favourite characters you've made? Why?
4 What other pieces of media do you think would share a fan base for your story?
