I've been reading a lot lately, and my current DNF list is longer than my 5⭐ list, but here's what I discovered that I want to share with you. When I finish that book, that hidden gem that lights me up inside, my next move is to research every other project by that same author. Same with movies. I see a movie with a performance that rocks me, I watch every other film on that person's filmography.

And not once has it made me like that person less. Yes, I've watched a lot of cringe movies because of this, and now I'm reading a lot of books that don't get finished, but I'm still following these people and their journeys and I'm still so so happy to find other content with them and by them for me to indulge in.

So, publish your shit work. Give people a chance to go feral in their consumption of you.

As the banner suggests, I am elbow-deep in more WIPs than I know what to do with, and many of them contain vampires and jackasses [affectionate].

While I am trying to focus on no more than one or two at a time this year, chances are my attention will stray away from that goal and I will end up with even more WIPs than the year began with.

All that being said, these are a handful of my main go-to projects and / or the ones most active in my brain space right now, all of which are collaborations in some shape or form with my dearest friend @reeseweston :

there’s a new drug in town and it’s turning users into bloodthirsty vampires that crave the neon substance and its supernatural side effects. a detective and his android partner—both on and off duty, though unofficially—set out to end this endemic while trying and failing to dodge noxiglow’s temptations

queer contemporary suspense with a sprinkling of romance set in the early 90s revolving around an alcoholic with a severe case of Jackass with a Heart of Gold Buried Under Years of Trauma. expect lots of 80s and 90s music and movie references, copious amounts of cursing, a plethora of eroticism, and a heaping of pancakes [more here]

queer gothic fantasy with ghoulish vampires and a corrupted greedy government, science experiments gone wrong and superhuman beings, what more could you ask for? snarky lesbians and a polyamorous trio, of course! [more here]

queer contemporary about a guy who tells elaborate lies as a defense mechanism and is in desperate need of escape from his abusive ex-boyfriend. that escape comes in the form of a quote-unquote pharmacist harboring his own secrets and is in need of a date to his cousin’s wedding. both of their secrets will be uncovered on an eventful and harrowing trip across the country amidst the snow

best friends cas and felix travel the country searching for proof of supernatural creatures with the aid of a camera and their increasingly popular paranormal podcast, blurring the lines between the known and the unexplainable, and their friendship, along the way. it’s gay and there are ghosts, so basically it’s perfect [more here]

As someone who grew up with "I'm not going to praise you for doing what's expected of you; that's not being good, that's doing the bare minimum" I want to encourage you to celebrate every little thing you can. Everything that takes energy and effort should be appreciated and you're allowed to be happy about trying.

if you're cringing at the genre conventions of the genre you are writing in then why the hell are you writing in it. either have something substantial to say about those conventions or shut the hell up! i will not cringe alongside you at superhero powers and spaceship battles and big eldritch worms and bone magic. i came to this story to SEE that shit and I don't appreciate it when an author tries to pretend they're above the very things they're selling themselves on

Does anybody here watch book tubers reviewing books and its like, really bad books and you're like "oh I can write better then that!" But you get jealous because they actually got published?

Big advocate for reading badly written but very sincere genre books as often as possible. If writers don’t recalibrate periodically with stories about creatures offensive to nature that were born in vats, diabolical machinations of evil wizards, physically improbable sex scenes with lots of throbbing etc etc, we forget that fiction is made up and that writing should be fun
