Rán gets a mention in D'aulaire's Book of Norse Myths (yes, they have a Norse one as well). It refers to her as an "evil witch," which I am not a fan of, but I was surprised she got a mention at all.

The latest episode of the Lore podcast has multiple mentions of hybrid sea monsters of yore.
Content warning for mentions of animal violence, coercive marriage (and, by extension, implied coercive sex), and family death

Wrote a Hymn to Rán (Well, I've written three so far, but this is the one I'm sharing as part of an ongoing project)

Day 3 of Norse November Ægir and Rán, Jötunn and Goddess, husband and wife, lord and lady of the seas. Ægir and Rán both personify different aspects of the sea, Ægir being benevolent and calm, and Rán being sinister and quick to anger. Ægir and Rán reside over a grand hall beneath the sea which is open to all manner of folks, including the Æsir gods.

[This is a re-upload for added details and background]
Aegir and Ran, rulers of the seas.
Aegir, king of the ocean, is a giant in Norse mythology. He is the raging storms and the calm waters where fishermen earn their living. He is a greedy man who will sink ships with gold so he may have it for himself. It is also in Aegir’s hall those who drowned end up. His mead is the best in all the worlds and the Aesir come to him for grand feats and good company.
Ran, married to Aegir and drowned of men, is not as favoured as her husband. With her net she catches seafarers and drags them underwater where they drown in her depths. She enjoys collecting souls for the grand hall and she is not easily swayed by gold or pretty words. She is the sea when it is at its most merciless. 🌊 🌊 🌊 #aegir #rán #norsemythology #giants #jætte #nordiskmytologi #art #digitalart #procreate https://www.instagram.com/p/CYzTXh8q_qW/?utm_medium=tumblr

I loved your Mani mood board. I'd love to see what you would put together for Rán and Ægir. Not a request I promise lol
More than happy too. Thank you for having patience lol. I've been in a rut and I appreciate the suggestion. I hope putting them together is ok lol. The Ægir and Rán statues are from this Etsy store - Godsnorth.
