Obsessed with the idea of Maedhros being programmed to react to crying babies.
Like, anyone could hand Maedhros a baby elfling, edain, or anything else humanoid and he’ll just Take The Baby and start cradling it on instinct.
This guy has six (6) younger brothers.
Imagining a scenario where post-angband Maedhros is sleeping (miraculously) but someone’s baby starts crying outside his tent and Maedhros just, shoots straight up immediately like “where is baby. Why is baby crying.” And it’s the most encouraging thing that Mae’s done since Fingon rescued him.

Not-Yet-Written-Fics Game
Tagged by @runawaymun to expose all my not written fics. There are ... a lot of these that surface for a time and disappear into the ether, so I will name only the ones that are the most pervasive.
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, but make it Tolkien (Elrond/Thranduil/Thranduil's OC wife) - aka Elrond's bisexual awakening, the fic
Adar taken prisoner in Valinor (Adar/Palariel) - an AU of my own Adar/OC story where they met in Valinor instead, with messy elf politics and mandatory therapy for the uruk dad.
East of the Sun, West of the Moon inspired dark fic (Adar/new OC) - This one is dark and doesn't have a happy ending (because Sauron is the worst), but if you've ever wondered what Angband was like in my headcanons - this would be the place to find out.
ira valarum (or, what were the Valar up to during the First Age anyway) - this would be a sequel to 'pax valarum' - the story of Melkor's captivity expanded. It's the First Age from the perspective of the Valar - why did they make the decisions they made? etc
Círdan recognizes a Moriondo - what it says on the tin. Cirdan knows one of the first uruks and finds them dead on the battlefield after the First Battle of Beleriand. I have a lot of emotions about this one.
Maeglin and Aredhel go to Doriath instead - Eol is Thingol's kin. Aredhel thinks that Eol will try to find them in Gondolin, so she and Maeglin go to Doriath instead. Thingol is frosty but polite to Aredhel for Maeglin's sake. This one's messy - but I Iike it.
Cirdan/OC longfic - I love Cirdan and I'm about to make that everyone else's problem to the tune of 70k words.
Kidnap fam longfic - with all the adoption trauma that I think is likely to come of that situation. Love may have grown between them but that doesn't make this a net positive situation.
MGIME with a twist (the twist is that it's also a body swap)
Thank you for the tag - listing these out proved to be more fun than I expected and I was already expecting a good time.
If anyone is curious about these, feel free to send me an ask and I'll tell you the vibes.
No pressure tags: @lordoftherazzles, @fishing4stars, @from-the-coffee-shop-in-edoras and anyone to whom this looks like fun.

Fingon does not play often anymore. Rarely does the mood strike him, and mostly when he is alone, his heart is sorrowful. But at the Mereth Aderthad some merriness of the crowd strikes him, some warmth of the liquor, and he picks up the harp and plays, unthinking, a drinking-song from bygone days. Around him elves laugh and dance, an ocean of swirling silk, and he hears little his own music.
“You have lost the touch,” Maglor says, “you were better.”
Fingon looks down at the joints of his fingers, where feeling has not returned since the ice, and says naught.

I don’t think it’s stated that he came back right away, just pretty quickly compared to other Elves. Maybe it took him a week, maybe it took him five hundred years, we don’t really know. That fact is also mostly according to the Lay, so you could very well interpret it as an embellishment by someone who had no real idea what happened to Finrod after he died but just wanted to tie off the story nicely.
And if he does reembody before the War of Wrath, that doesn’t necessarily indicate that he would be going back for the War of Wrath. He could just as easily have been left behind to act as regent, since he is Finarfin’s heir and now conveniently has real experience with ruling. He could have been forbidden from returning to Middle Earth for the-Valar-being-the-Valar reasons, or even please-you’re-my-baby-boy-and-you’ve-already-died-there reasons. Maybe he went “Hey, isn’t it super messed up that half of Grandma’s family died and now the other half is going to fight a war in the same place? I think I’ll go stay with her until y’all come back once I give you every ounce of tactical knowledge I’ve gained over the last centuries.”
Any of these options gives the funny idea that it’s Finarfin, with all the righteous fury of his elder brothers, who may or may not have actively had a hand in chopping Morgoth’s legs off before tossing him in the void, telling a newly captured Sauron, “You killed my son,” and Sauron having to somehow bluff his way through this new and terrifying interaction, and not finding out until years later the exact circumstances wherein he killed that scary guy’s son.
Like, when do you think Sauron found out this elf that died in his dungeons was Finrod? None of Finrod's company ever gave up his identity, so he definitely had no idea at first. After Beren and Luthien succeded, his death would become common knowledge among the elves since there's no way Beren would keep his glorious sacrifice secret, but I'm not sure if these news ever reached Angband, I mean, it's not like Morgoth could sent his orcs to disguise themselves as elves and spy on them, so they probably didn't know a lot of what was talked about in elves cities, especially since it kind of wasn't important for the war anyway.
So imagen how hilarious it would be if Sauron never hears of this through the entire first age and then one day in Eregion Tyelpe is being all sad, so Annatar acts all sympathic and concerned which he only does because he needs Celebrimbor to trust him, of course he doesn't care how he feels and he especially isn't concerned and Celebrimbor is just like "uncle Finrod died today" and Annatar's like "yeah, that makes sense, by the way how did he die I think I never heard the specifics" and Celebrimbor just says "he got killed by Sauron after sacrificing himself for Beren, how did you never hear about this" and Annatar's just like "he WHAT!?"

really love dynamics that are like 'it honestly doesn't matter if you view them as romantic or platonic, the point is that they love each other. the type of love is inconsequential, all that matters is that it's there'. gotta be one of my favorite genders.
