Ivy League university student groups are supporting Boycott, Divestments, and Sanctions (BDS) because they feel their universities should not be invested in Israel as it carries out the ongoing ethnic cleansing in Gaza. Columbia, NYU, Princeton and other big universities had students who were joined by professors and faculty arrested and forcibly removed by police. Meanwhile, Jewish Voices for Peace was suspended by Columbia because they dare to critique Israel. There are Jewish students who are a part of this organized encampments, and according to the student organizers, they have tried to make the encampment a place of community, and welcome for those who are using their right to protest non violently and peacefully under our first amendment. There are also counter protestors who are right wing provocateurs who infiltrate, and instigate for media coverage, or create hysteria. As cable media outlets and some politicians including President Biden have called these encampments or the protestors as flatly antisemitic, or worse. I understand if people feel protestors shouldn’t use the word “antifata”, which means uprising, which they may feel is a call for violence. The majority of these student protestors if they use it, they use the term not as a call for violence but the uprising of a group of oppressed people who are facing death,destruction, famine, annihilation. That is what we should be focusing on. The munitions the U.S. is sending to Israel, its aiding in weaponry, bombs, bunker busters, and a recent 26 Billion dollar package to Israel. Israel is always given the benefit of the doubt in western media, and similar to the Vietnam war student protestors of the late 1960’s and early 70’s, they were smeared, suspended, misconstrued, delegitimized, and faced police brutality. The upcoming Democratic National Convention is in Chicago again this summer so we’ll see if history can repeat itself again. To critique Israel is not to critique all Jewish people. These aid workers and that driver had families, one pictured with his wife and baby, had dual Canadian/American citizenship. They were compassionate and cared about the 2 Million displaced refugees who are starving as famine is being used as a means for annihilation. President Biden continues to reward Netanyahu’s administration for its war crimes with billions of dollars in weapons transfers including one transfer this past week worth 2.5 Billion. Biden and AIPAC sponsored Corporate Democrats and Republicans in office take Israeli lobby money which also enriches U.S. military defense contractors. According to Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, over 15,000 children have been brutally bombed, starved, or shot to death. Innocent men and women have been tortured, lost their homes either to endless brutal bombardments, or violent religious fundamentalists Israeli settlers who are sponsored by Netanyahu’s far right authoritarian government. All adult males according to Netanyahu are “terrorist” or labeled “terrorist” after death. These Palestinians are 2 Million displaced refugees without any quality of life, without a future, without a civilized world protecting them. This is unacceptable, but unfortunately I know the Biden administration will never hold Israel accountable for this crime, or any other crime against humanity. Biden can make P.R. statements or have John Kirby cover for Israel even with the bold face lie of “the state department has looked at incidents in the past and has yet to determine any of those incidents violate international humanitarian law.” Actions speak louder than words. This strike was intentional. Israel has admitted they attacked the World Central Kitchen workers because their driver was a possible terrorist, without any verification. How do we resist when powerful governments that have the power to input a humanitarian ceasefire or verbally and fiscally denounce a government acting with genocidal war plans is being backed by the same powerful militaries and governments that are supposed to uphold democracy? These six World Central Kitchen aid workers and the Palestinian driver deserved to be protected as they planned their food delivery with the awareness of the Israeli military. As long as innocent civilians are killed, harmed, starved, and the Biden Administration insists that Israel will investigate this killing is laughable, there won’t be justice for anyone affected by this war. Netanyahu does not give a damn about civilian life, nor does anyone supporting this annihilation. Politics is about greed, power, control, humanity is being left out. Israel was meant to be a safe haven for Jews, but how is Israel safe with Netanyahu’s administration full of totalitarian, fascistic, nationalist, religious zealots in power, and the never ending brutal occupation of Palestine. As history recalls, dehumanization leads to acts of unspeakable cruelty. The Biden Administration will reward Israel’s war crimes with billions of dollars worth of weapons transfers, as Trump has also been bribed by Israeli American billionaires, the late Sheldon and Miriam Adelson, and does not act with rationality. This normalized corruption in U.S. politics is why the American and other western governments are backing Netanyahu’s government, and not on the side of humanity. We cannot casually accept or enable genocide, or simply the killing of any innocent civilian. As a Jew, I want peace and stability for all innocent civilians with accountability for those in power who caused this brutal conflict.
