there is no positive connotation to the word 'narcissist' in any context. if i'm talking about what psychs identify in me as 'narcissistic traits' I use the word because the behavior i'm describing is objectively harmful to myself and others. it's very odd to see people attempt to spin it into something positive as a form of anti-ableism.

hii mari, i very recently got into valente’s deathless and i was wondering if you know similar works as that (what with koschei and marya’s dynamic)? (within the horror genre is welcomed but even if it doesnt, like a ya novel, it’s also more than welcomed!) thank you so much, i hope you have a nice day!
Hey! Sorry I took so long to reply, I was really busy and a little stressed out with work. I'm really glad you enjoyed Deathless, but I'm not sure I can help you out with similar works. I'll do my best!
If you're not already familiar with Angela Carter, I would definitely recommend her work - I usually tell people to start with The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories, but in this case I think you should go with either Nights at the Circus or The Magic Toyshop.
Katherine Arden’s The Winternight Trilogy might be a good fit. I only read the first book and wasn't too excited about continuing because it's not very much my style, but I heard good things about the two sequels.
The Demon by Mikhail Lermontov is beautiful and I think there are elements of it that might be of interest to you. Same thing for The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov (which has: Russian culture, magical realism and a compelling romantic relationship, and is simply wonderful).
I'm trying to think of relationships like Marya Morevna and Koschei's, but I think I just haven't read many books that explore power dynamics quite in that way (which is a shame, because it definitely compels me). But in some ways it reminds me of entirely different works, like Villette and Jane Eyre by Charlote Brontë, or Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier, and a number of novels that explore power dynamics in a similar vein. But that's very different from what you're looking for, I think.
I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help, but followers are encouraged to reply with recs. :)
