What is your opinion on Azriel? Because I've seen many anti-ICs somehow still like him but I didn't like him AT ALL. He was creepy and violent and way too possessive/overprotective. Also, the way he spoke about Lucien makes me violent.
HI OMG IM SORRY I PROMISE I SAW THIS EARLIER
omg BOY are you ready to open one hell of a can of worms because I have got my can opener READY
I'll preface by saying this: I like a lot of SjM's characters in theory. Many, many of them had immense potential to be really really good characters. Azriel is one of those for me.
I like the idea of Azriel. I like the idea of a soft spoken male character who is quiet and gentle outrightly because if he wasn't, he would have no choice but to be forever screaming in rage over the injustices done to him.
However, I see your point OH so clearly my friend. SJM can't write a gentle male character noOoOoOOo they all have to be weird and possessive over things that are not there for them to claim because it's "sexy hot" or whatever
ALSO YEAH ! WHY HE TALKING TO LUCIEN LIKE THAT HUH ??? LUCIEN DIDN'T DO SHIT TO HIM !!! (Is it Elain? Is that what it is? remember what I said about SJM's make characters being possessive over people that aren't theirs to claim REMEMBER THAT SJM??) Also... Why don't we ever get any info about why he has to torture people ??? Hello ?? Where am I
If I had my way and everything I ever wanted I would rewrite ACOTAR and Azriel and Lucien would be friends!! BEST FRIENDS !! (And maybe they would hold hands tehe) (and also maybe Az and Morrigan would stage a coup against Rhysand because heheheheh we love overthrowing corrupt and ineffective rulers haha high king of prythian who haha he is getting REPLACED)
Thanks for the ask!!!

The way Tamlin in the narrative is structured as fully a victim to Amarantha in acotar and yet people STILL read that book and go “he was always terrible actually” like he wasn’t in an impossible position just blows my mind.

Does anyone else not like the gazillion titles SJM gives her characters? I swear Aelin got a new title every book and Feyre has a bunch too. I'm sure Bryce will have a million titles soon too. Like I get that SJMs characters are incredible and no one can ever be as amazing as them but like do they really need 12 million titles? Idk just something that bugs me
Nonny, this (again) is the problem when you steal other people's content and ideas without fully understanding what makes them work in the first place. This is also what happens when you don't come up with an idea yourself specifically for your own world. You try shoving someone else's hard work into your own and (surprise surprise) it doesn't really fit.

it's morbidly fascinating to ponder on which of lucien's character traits and intended storylines were given to cassian to make nessian a thing (as that is sjm's classic strategy when changing up couples). for all the bullshit that exists after Sarah's One Feasible Storyline, i can't imagine lucien with an archeron that isn't elain. and knowing how sjm feels about nesta (blah blah evil older sister that needs to be fixed) i... unfortunately have to say we dodged a bullet with lucnes not being canon because i have a feeling that lucien would have gotten the Bridge scene ™ and holy mother of god. no. no way. like who knows maybe elucien would have been endgame in the original trilogy but man, now that i really think about it, does it matter? nesta would still have been mistreated by the narrative and lucien would be on my hit list. it's a loss either way.

Acotar always approaches something that would be amazing for worldbuilding and content then fumbles it
The idea of solar courts?? Well actually they're just kinda magical victorian cities
A human stole Death from the Cauldron?? Silver flames go brrr or whatever
Atheist human societies? Fae racism? The dark hero suffering trauma from years of SA? A magical eugenics programme forcing people into unloving relationships? The defining line between human and non-human? How trauma can truly affect relationships etc etc
The idea of power inheritance not always being a direct line of succession is so interesting especially on how that could impact a society living with the rule of nobility.
How would someone like Beron handle it if none of his children were the Heirs of his power?
Do nobles simply absorb those people into their power structures? What if they're resistant or think in a revolutionary way like Tarquin? How much weight do titles have when the power goes elsewhere? Is it seen as an omen?
When Rhys died the power would have more likely passed to Mor than to Feyre. One has a magical bloodline and the other has a title.
What if it passes Nyx and goes to someone from the Court of Nightmares? Do they get to lock away the citizens of Velaris?
Could it ever pass to a fully lesser Fae?
So many questions

honestly rhysand became so bland and boring after acotar. he was at his best when he was a selfish asshole with his own agenda and terrible morals. was he a bastard that deserved to rot in hell? fuck yeah. but was he entertaining?
…also yes.

Tamlin saving Rhysand's life for Feyre after she destroyed his entire court truly proves that he's the bigger male because you know the bat would have never done the same for him

It's wild how Tamlin gets so much shit for bringing back the Tithe (which is literally just. feudalism.) after his kingdom has been decimated from the past 50 years.
But there's never any alternative explanation for how the High Lords in other Courts are able to maintain their lavish lifestyles.
Like. Okay fine, Feyre can criticize Tamlin for having his subjects pay taxes. What are the alternatives? How does Rhysand purchase his five mansions and hire the staff to maintain them? How does Rhysand buy expensive clothing, food, and weapons for himself and the IC? Mor goes out drinking and partying every night, who fronts the bill?
And HONESTLY normally I wouldn't care because these are fluffy fantasy books, I never would EXPECT serious worldbuilding from them. But THE AUTHOR BROUGHT IT UP! If you're going to criticize one character for doing something a certain way, there need to be viable alternatives.

So it’s ok for Rhysand to work with Amarantha for 50 years to protect a city that’s already a secret and not give a shit about his other courts but it isn’t ok for Tamlin to work with Hybern for like five minutes just to save his girlfriend? Yeah ok

Reading acomaf after reading acotar feels like watching Revenge of the Sith and knowing that Anakin is gonna turn to the dark side but instead of painful dread it's just sheer utter disappointment bc I know it's gonna suck just as bad as the last time I read it

I’ve said it before, but one thing that really bothers me in this fandom is the expectation of healing being external. Literally, honestly, however harsh this is to hear, it is no one’s job or responsibility to heal you. If you have gone through something traumatic, the onus on healing through that is on you, not on another person. This is not something I’m pulling out of thin air, this is what you’ll learn if you go to therapy or talk to any medical professional. Your family, friends, or romantic partners are not built-in caretakers. It’s such a completely shitty thing to expect other people to “handle” your trauma and to rank them based on whether or not they do. And that goes ESPECIALLY for people who are experiencing their own trauma FROM THE SAME EVENTS. If they’re taking care of themselves and can’t spare the energy to take care of you, that’s not a bad thing. Ask about the reverse: what are you doing to help that other person through their trauma? Nothing? That’s because you probably can only focus on yourself at that moment which is COMPLETELY VALID. It's insane how the only really helpful instance of someone being there for someone else after a traumatic event is villainized.
I’m not saying that’s what happens in the books per se (nuanced conversation + fantasy elements abound), but in this fandom? In the real world? Yikes. All of the conversations about “this character was destroying themselves and was traumatized and no one helped them” is so incredibly one-note. No nuance at all. I’m not saying to leave people who are hurting all by themselves. I’m not saying to expect a good relationship with people you’re ignoring who are in pain. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t help if you’re in a position to help. But this expectation that your loved ones exist to help you through every single thing that hurts you is incredibly harmful. They are people also, and most likely you’re not stopping your life to make yourself a resource for them through all of their trials either. The ONLY thing you can judge people on re: your trauma is how they treated you while you were going through it.
Say it with me y’all: balance.

I was talking to my friend at work about Elain's I mean Azriel's potential next book and she said that she was interested to see who Azriel's mate is going to be and I brought up like
What if Azriel used to have a mate but they just... Fell out? Like they both agreed not to do anything with the mating bond and went their separate ways? Maybe they're still friends? Maybe they talk every once in a while but nothing ever comes or it? Even better, what if the mate was a man ???
And then my friend said "omg, SJM could never" and she's so right Sjm could never
