I decided to start logging games that take awhile to beat.
I loved this game, though I do wish I had played FES because of the better graphics, but the portability of this allowed me to beat it much faster than playing on PS2 would have.
I can definitely see myself going back to the new game plus and trying to max out some s.links and beat the extra bosses in the tartarus. For now, however, I am moving on to P4 Golden.

Kayne West's Blood On The Leaves is about Animal Crossing
My life over the past few weeks has consisted of nothing but playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf and listening to Kayne West’s new album Yeezus. I’m starting to see some similarities, specifically in the album’s six minute centerpiece Blood on the Leaves.
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees
Blood on the leaves
Bells, Animal Crossing’s currency, is the driving motivation behind most of the game’s scenarios. The single most effective way to accumulate bells is through fruit harvesting. What player hasn’t taken a golden axe to every tree in sight simply to clear space for a perfect grid of exotic fruit? Nina Simone’s appropriated passage indirectly comments on the destructive slash and burn techniques used by Animal Crossing players to climb to the top of the bell game. There is blood on the leaves, so to speak. Kanye’s production technique emphasizes this by pairing the vocal sample with a handbell sound effect at the end of the first verse (at the 0:50 mark).
I just need to clear my mind now
It’s been racin’ since the summertime
And I’m holdin’ down the summer now
And all I want is what I can’t buy now
Cause I ain’t got the money on me right now
And I told you to wait
Yeah I told you to wait
So I’mma need a little more time now
Cause I ain’t got the money on me right now
And I thought you could wait
Yeah, I thought you could wait
Tom Nook’s predatory lending practices have become legendary, mimetically disseminating far beyond Animal Crossing’s audience. Without having any say in the matter, every Animal Crossing player is built a house by Tom Nook, who then charges an astronomical sum, placing the player in debt. Clearing this debt gives the player the option of expanding their house which, in turn, adds more debt. It is an endless cycle.
These bitches surroundin’ me
All want somethin’ out me
Then they talk about me
Would be lost without me
We could’ve been somebody
Thought you’d be different ‘bout it
Now I know you not it
So let’s get on with it
Kanye here references the unique aspect of Animal Crossing: New Leaf… the player character, upon moving to town, is mistaken for the new mayor and must take on many civic responsibilities. Townsfolk often inundate the player with requests for new facilities or public ordinances, seemingly unable to function in society or accomplish anything without the player’s help.
It’s also interesting to note that the primary subject of discussion among village residents seems to be the player character. Engaging any resident in conversation will most likely result in the player learning of a new nickname they have received through some secret assembly of the other town residents.
We could’ve been somebody
‘stead you had to tell somebody
Let’s take it back to the first party
When you tried your first molly
And came out of your body
And came out of your body
Running naked down the lobby
And you was screamin’ that you love me
Before the limelight tore ya
Before the limelight stole ya
Remember we were so young
When I would hold you
Before the blood on the leaves
I know there ain’t wrong with me
Something strange is happening
One of the first public works projects that can be built in Animal Crossing: New Leaf is something called the Dream Suite, which allows the player character to pay 500 bells for an out-of-body projection into another player’s town. Kanye likens the experience to using empathogenic drugs such as MDMA. Clearly, he finds issue with the nature of such a practice as a substitute for more personal interactions in previous Animal Crossing games.
Fuck them other niggas cause I’m down with my niggas
Fuck them other niggas cause I’m down with my niggas
Fuck them other niggas cause I’m down with my niggas
This brief bridge pays hommage to the classic C-murder track Down 4 My Niggas, which includes the line “Just like Soulja Slim, he’ll put you in the dirt / and have your picture on front of a t-shirt." Clearly a reference to the fossil digging and clothing design activities that have become Animal Crossing mainstays.
To all my second string bitches, tryna get a baby
Trying to get a baby, now you talkin’ crazy
In the world of Animal Crossing, player characters are unable to conceive children. Such a desire is crazy.
I don’t give a damn if you used to talk to Jay-Z
He ain’t with you, he with Beyoncé, you need to stop actin’ lazy
She Instagram herself like #BadBitchAlert
He Instagram his watch like #MadRichAlert
One of the most notable additions in Animal Crossing: New Leaf is the ability to take in-game screenshots and post them to social media. Kanye uses two different Instagram hashtags to illustrate the polarity of Animal Crossing players, from the griefers to the bell chasers.
He only wanna see that ass in reverse
Two-thousand-dollar bag with no cash in your purse
Now you sittin’ courtside, wifey on the other side
Gotta keep ‘em separated, I call that apartheid
A stanza about players spending bells on fashion and living dangerously beyond their means. The apartheid line is interesting, perhaps referencing the fact that the town generation algorithm always includes a river separating the village into two distinct areas.
Then she said she impregnated, that’s the night your heart died
Then you gotta go and tell your girl and report that
Main reason cause your pastor said you can’t abort that
Now your driver say that new Benz you can’t afford that
All that cocaine on the table you can’t snort that
That going to that owing money that the court got
All in on that alimony, uh, yeah-yeah, she got you homie
‘til death but do your part, unholy matrimony
The final verse on the song takes on a more personal tone. The responsibilities that come with being a father mean cutting back on things such as Animal Crossing, as Kanye relates it using the analogy of cocaine and cars. Kanye is afraid that his entire village will become a mess of weeds and dying flowers once his daughter is born. Only time will tell if that’s the case.

Sorry I have not posted in awhile. I have pretty much been stuck in this world. I am only 4 bosses away form the ending though. I probably will not bother with all the side quests.
Don't start reading A Wizard of Earthsea while you play this unless you read quickly, because the worlds have started to bleed for me, but maybe I spent too long at Swinedimples.

I got one of these beasts yesterday at a garage sale for cheap. I haven't been able to get the cd to work yet. The light comes on, but the disc does not spin and the BIOS screen freezes at the earth with no music and no logo. When I have time, I plan to take it apart and clean everything to see if that makes a difference. It was still an incredible deal for the 32X and the copy of Star Wars arcade alone.
Anyone had a similar problem with their Sega CD?
Turns out the power cord for the CD was bad. Replaced that and the whole thing works perfectly.
