GES Vol 5 Status Update:
I recently got a question about the Green-Eyed Snake series on one of my other stories, and I wanted to share my response here because A: I figure at the very least I owe you all some kind of an update, and B: I think there’s good advice there for fic-interaction in general. So, to answer the question will I continue with GES?
I don't know. I have stuff written, I have lots of stuff planned, but it's hard to actually write it these days because it's difficult to immerse myself deeply enough in Potter to write a story like that without getting thrown-out of the writing by my overwhelming disgust for the author. Spite helps, and I've managed to slog through a few sentences over the past few months largely on that basis, but it's abysmally slow. So I just don't know. Which is why I haven't really responded most of the time when people ask me about the GES series, because "idk" isn't a helpful answer for anyone I feel. But: I don't know. I want to, but it's hard. The world sucks, and she's making it worse on purpose, and it's hard to focus on working in her sandbox—even with the goal of giving her a thousand middle fingers with the resulting story—because it's hard to focus past the evil she's doing in real life to work on the story. Maybe if every Republican in America suddenly drops dead of shame and stops trying to slaughter genderqueer children, or Rowling yeets herself into an abyss or has an epiphany to maybe stop being irredeemably evil on purpose, or some other such miracle happens to make the world less awful, it'll get easier. But otherwise: I truly do not know.
I'll also say that opening an e-mail from AO3 and expecting to enjoy reading someone's comment about my new LotR fic, and instead getting this, does not engender motivation to write anything. So your tip for the day is to ask writers questions like this through more appropriate avenues in the future (tumblr, dms, one of the stories in the series in question, etc) rather than hijacking some unrelated story. And maybe remind us or something you liked about that story when you do. The few sentences I have been able to eke-out this year have all been inspired by readers commenting on some chapter of GES, because their enjoyment reminds me of why I liked that story, too. Whenever I am trying to work on it, I page back through comments and messages that people have sent, and that helps me swallow the bitter pill of JKR’s existence enough to write a few more words. Every nice (or even insightfully critical!) thing that anyone has ever said about his series helps, a lot. And I know objectively that people wouldn't ask "will you continue?" about a story they didn't like reading, but you spark no inspiration like this; only disappointment. The only reward fanfic writers get is to have readers tell them what they liked about their work, so if you want to encourage your favorite writers to write more stuff for you to read, that's the best way to go about it. Not this.
So: sorry for not saying anything sooner about the status of this story, but it was because I didn’t feel that I had anything useful to say. But that’s where we are: the story is not abandoned, it’s just being drowned right now by the weight of the world.
I do want to take a moment to thank you each and every one of you for the beautiful comments and messages and encouragement you’ve given me, though. I do want to finish this series for you at some point, I truly do. I just don’t know how, or when. But someday I genuinely hope to.
Thank you for reading, and I’m sorry to disappoint you.

Great name for the next volume by the way, i'm a bit sad that the wait for the next part seems far off, but i understand it and respect it too. looking forward to it nonetheless
Thank you! I went back and forth between a bunch of different options for the titles on most of them, but so far I’ve liked the ones I’ve chosen; it’s heartening to hear that other people do, too! Thanks!
And I apologize in advance for the absolutely interminable length of delay between this and the next book, yeah. It’s going to be long, I can tell you that right now. I can also tell you that I, too, am sad about it...but it’s getting harder and harder to find time to write fic. I have not and will not give up on this series, though! It’s just going to be a...a process. A lengthy, slow, crawling one. But a process, nonetheless! Know that I enormously appreciate your patience in sticking with this story for the long (long) haul like this!

Excited for the next volume. I can’t help but wonder, should be great. Out of interest in the final chapter of Dark Mark, which of Harry team mates stood up, I’ve always like your version of the quidditch stuff, I hope Harry remains seeker
Oooh, that would be telling! No tbh while I have ThoughtsTM on who did and didn’t, I actually don’t have it set in stone in my own head yet because I’m waiting to see how things evolve with everybody over the course of the next book before deciding (if I ever do; maybe it won’t come up and Harry will never find out exactly who had his back at the moment and who didn’t).
Thank you so much for the compliment about Quidditch, it’s both enjoyable and difficult to write so I’m happy to know that’s it’s coming off well! (All due credit to Aaron Allston for teaching me how to write good aerial combat competition.) No further comments regarding spoilers save to say that Quidditch, at least, will continue to be of import in the next volume in general.

Morning came all too early, and with it, demands for answers and explanations.
“I don’t want to talk about it,” Harry said firmly, glaring at his friends over heaping plates of eggs, toast, and—save in Goyle’s case—fat, greasy sausages. “He’s back, it was horrible, I survived. End of story.”
“Oh come on,” Draco wheedled, “you’ve got to give us more than that, Harry, please….”
“You want to know more?” Harry snapped. “Go find Voldemort and ask him.”

He had barely finished dressing in the clean robes Madam Pomfrey had laid out for him when the doors opened and Draco, Crabbe, and Goyle bust inside. “Harry, what—?”
“Not here,” Harry interrupted shortly. He led the way out of the hospital wing and they followed obediently all the way down to the entrance hall and out onto the grounds. Harry paused halfway down the lawn, staring blindly in the direction of the Quidditch pitch. He wondered if the maze was still there, or if it—and the monsters that had been placed inside it—had already been magicked away, leaving no trace that they had ever been….
They walked toward the lake, stopping far from the point where the Durmstrang ship still bobbed at anchor. Harry squinted at its furled black sails, its gleaming brightwork; he wondered what Viktor Krum had said to the other students last night, and what they had said to him….

It was fun to see the latest a divergence from canon, with no mrs Weasley or Bill. Although i’m Sure Arthur and his family would join the Order. But who knows whether that will happen. I also wanted to say whether that means the Diggory family will join he order in book 5
Thank you! I’m really glad that the substitution in the Champions’ Families section seems to have been so well received! As for who will or will not join the Order, or when or how or why...well, I can’t say anything yet, but I’ve definitely been enjoying writing the early Order scenes in OotP! Hopefully everyone else will like them too!

Looking forward to seeing how this volume ends. Should be a great read, found Snape's speech really interesting too. i really am curious on how things go with Harry's doormmates.
Thank you! I’m so glad that scene with Snape seems to have gone over well, I was worried about finding a balance there between saying enough and saying too much...so thank you! What a delight/relief to hear!
I hope things with Harry’s friends in Slytherin go over just as well.

Really enjoyed the latest chapter, Snape's speech was so insightful, and i loved Cedrics parts, i'm sure he is going to be great in volume five.Looking forward to harry finally having his eyes opened to the realities of the deaters identities. Great chapter eagerly looking forward to the next
Thank you so much! I’m really excited to get to keep Cedric around for what comes next, I hope everyone else likes it too. And yeah things are going to get pretty harsh for Harry and his buds, aren’t they? I hope the way that goes down is...well, maybe not enjoyable but at least satisfying for everyone ha ha!
And thank you so much for saying that about Snape’s little chat; I probably rewrote that seventeen times trying to find the right balance so hearing that it went over well is wonderful, thank you!
