The second part of the mini-update for Chapter 9 is now up and playable for Ishari Tier Patrons.

The update schedule is as follows:

8 April 2024: Ishari Tier Patrons ($15)

11 April 2024: Vinia Tier Patrons ($10)

16 April 2024: Cyre Tier Patrons ($5)

23 April 2024: Nomad Tier Patrons ($2)

New to the update:

Added around 37K of code and words. Word count will probably range between 30-35K;

Added more name options at the beginning of the game;

A late-night chat with Zikar (optional);

The Vinia family one-on-one scenes;

A memorial ceremony (optional) to honour Yara and Ahlf;

Dialogue scenes with Rana; and

Choose to give Rana her gift (based on earlier decisions).

This is the family portion of the chapter, so you'll not get any RO scenes this time. It mostly deals with the arrival of the Vinia family in Ishari, so if the family or Rana doesn't interest you, I suggest waiting for the next (and final) portion of Chapter 9's update.

Posting schedule

I've decided to start a posting schedule because posting whenever has started to become a stressful headache where I don't know how much I've written.

I will take a brief break at the beginning of June where I won't post anything (and may not write much). I will be back to posting on the 18th of June with more chapters!

In all honesty I had a timeline for writing all planned at the beginning (and again at the second half of the year) where I had this genius timeline planned in order to release Merry Crisis right on Christmas, but clearly now it's going to be topsy turvy and honestly? That's very on brand :P January updates for a Christmas-related IF seems like an inevitable tradition at this point!

Pt. 2 will be out... sometime after that but I don't wanna jinx myself, Im currently aiming for 15 Oct early release and some time after that, public!

Haha no, dont worry about it!

I don't have a schedule per se, but I am working alternately on CT:OS and MC which means ~2-3 months between updates.

(E.g. it was ~End Jun, early Jul since the last MC update, and I think I'm roughly aiming to start beta-testing in End Aug, early Sep for the next CT:OS update. So... once I'm done with that I'll start the new MC update, and mayhe hope to be done in... End Nov, early Dec?)

I'm still working a full time job which is why I'm a lil slower than I hope to be haha 😄sorry!

So there's a lot more streamlining of the updates now. Early access stories now update on the same day as AO3! We technically have a second birthday spotlight but I haven't written enough about Evan to justify actually making it! So he'll have to wait. :D

The Sunday-to-Sunday break continues once a month at the moment as I keep burnout at bay. Writing serials is quite different to novels, where I have essentially over 10 deadlines per month re: making sure I'm at my computer by a certain time, am on top of everything, and ready to post to about 5 different sites and so on. And I find this more stressful than the writing part of my job! Last month my most productive writing week was the week I wasn't updating any chapters, so stay tuned for excerpts on Tumblr and Discord that week!

We’re continuing on with Underline the Blue in the early access, but I’m rotating in Underline the Gold in April!

Most chapters go up between 6-7pm GMT+8 (or the time that you’re already used to me putting chapters up, lol). For those who are anxious to know when chapters are updating, hopefully this helps! If there’s ever an emergency, or a scheduling issue (like a surprise family dinner) I generally put up stories a day early and not late.

Chapter 8 Release Dates

I hope everyone is having a lovely Christmas Eve 🎄 Testing is quickly drawing to a close in Chapter 8, so I wanted to let you know the release dates in advance.

25 December 2023: Patrons of Cyre Tier and up;

28 December 2023: Patrons of the Nomad Tier;

1 January 2024: Public Release.

Please note that Chapter 8 will be the last chapter update for the public demo. Further chapters will be released only to my Patrons and the full game will be for sale on Steam and itch.io when it is completed.

Ooh! I'm thinking of doing a Merry Crisis update next, roughly end-Jan (early-release).

Then, since it'll be Feb earliest that I start writing CT:OS again, I'm thinking I should add more to the singles match (do a bit of the post-match reactions) in the update, which will take some time.

So... I'm looking at maybe a March early-release of the next CT:OS chapter! All super tentative of course, I think I'll have a better idea after I'm done writing Merry Crisis and get started on CT:OS! I'll keep you all posted again!

I Was Bored Earlier This Week...

...and instead of doing anything productive, I poked at SToFLO's tags on AO3 for grins and giggles. Then I broke out the calculator because I am a dweeb. Here's some of the more interesting numbers.

The ATLA fandom on AO3 is rather large, of course, but I was impressed with how well SToFLO's stats held up. Top 4% for kudos, top 2% for hits and bookmarks, and, finally, the top 1% for comments! (The last one might actually be cheating a bit. I've had a few long conversations in the comments' section.) Now, to come back down to Earth, what that actually means is StoFLO was on pages 75 for kudos, 37 for hits, 31 for bookmarks, and 20 for comments. Heh, yeah, I don't think anyone will be finding the story without a bit more filtering.

On the other side of the spectrum, the "Ozai Dies" tag (or "Ozai is Deader than a Doornail" on SToFLO) is only 3 pages long with 57 works total at the time of my integer-based tomfoolery. And would you look at that! I managed to find a recognized tag on AO3 small enough that SToFLO is in the top 5 when sorted by bookmarks, kudos, comments, hits, and word count! I find this especially funny because I only added the tag as a clarification that the main character was not actually canon!Ozai.

Jumping back to that semi-inflated comments number, it snagged SToFLO places on page 2 of "Zuko-centric" and page 1 of both "Fire Lord Zuko" and "Fire Nation Royal Family."

Not too shabby, all things considered!

Anyway, when I was done with my nonsense calculations, I cleaned up the tags on the story and took the opportunity to add a few that were missing before. One casualty was my beloved "Updates at the Pace of my Capricious Muse" tag for an "Aiming for Monthly Updates" tag.

I've never actually held to a writing/posting schedule before, but I think it's about time I gave it a try. For a few reasons, not least of which is the sheer discrepancy of the amount I updated SToFLO in its first year compared to its second. I know monthly is a pretty slow update rate, but this is fanfic written in my spare time as a hobby; and, even as slow as monthly is, this last year I've actually been posting less than that. (I suppose if the extras in Folktales and Fables are counted, then it's roughly the same amount of chapters/content for the series as a whole as monthly posts would be, but still.)

I'm hoping to update SToFLO every 28th of the month from now on, so keep an eye out for the next chapter and I'll see you in about a week! Happy reading!
