Featured Prank #2: Doc's Demise
Tumblr media
Season: 6
Prankster(s): Grian
Victim(s): DocM77 (and the viewers of Hermitcraft)
As the game of Demise began to draw to a close, only two contestants remained standing: Doc and Iskall. Grian, having an existing alliance with Iskall, decided to kill Doc by spawn-trapping him. He scoped out where Doc logged out of the server, encased the area in obsidian, and filled it in with lava.
Doc, having watched Grian's episode, and of course being bombarded by tweets and comments warning him of the trap, refused to take this sitting down. He loaded a test world wherein he recreated the circumstances under which he would log on, including the exact items in their exact placements in his inventory (which luckily included a Fire Resistance potion), and practiced the rapid actions he would need to take in order to escape the trap with his life. However, once he actually logged on to the Hermitcraft server, he was met not with lava, but with an instantaneous explosive death.
Grian, as it turned out, had ended his episode, but had then gone on to modify the trap entirely, changing it instead to tripwires that would trigger TNT minecarts. He did not explain this until his next episode, after Doc had already perished.

Featured Prank #1: Red Sky Bay of Pigs
Tumblr media
Season: 5
Prankster(s): Cubfan135, GoodTimesWithScar
Victim(s): Joe Hills
As part of Convex's pranking efforts, Cub and Scar targeted Joe's base Red Sky Bay with a bit of wordplay, the premise taken from a Wheel of Fortune category where two unrelated phrases are linked by a common word--in this case, "Red Sky Bay" and "Bay of Pigs". This, of course, meant that Cub constructed a giant pig on the top of Joe's base, complete with iron helmet, then he and Scar worked together to breed up around 50 pigs and scatter them in boats around the bay.

Hermit Prank Features: now accepting submissions!
As I alluded to in an earlier post, part of why I ran this bracket in the first place was to find and share fun content from Hermits or seasons that me and others may not have seen before, and that's exactly what I'd love to keep on doing! Hence, I've revamped the form used for nominations, and have re-opened responses! If you have any favorite pranks that weren't on the bracket that you'd like to see featured on the blog, feel free to submit them!

NOW EDITED TO HAVE A POLL. SORRY.
HERMIT PRANK WAR: FINAL MATCH
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Covering the Perimeter (Season 9)
Prankster(s): Grian, GoodTimesWithScar, and Mumbo Jumbo; with assistance from Etho, FalseSymmetry, GeminiTay, ImpulseSV, Iskall85, Joe Hills, and Xisuma
Victim(s): DocM77
While Doc was on holiday, the Buttercups took on the enormous task of fully covering over his 500 by 500 block perimeter with solid land. After the prank idea was pitched at the weekly Hermitcraft meeting, many other Hermits joined in on the effort. The result was a huge expanse of fully terraformed plains, complete with scattered trees and flowers.
Free Glass (Season 7)
Prankster(s): Etho
Victim(s): Everyone
As part of his business venture Shade E-E's, Etho launched a raffle for a lifetime subscription service of free glass. However, the free glass came in the form of light gray stained glass panes, which are completely invisible in the normal inventory UI, spread across the empty slots of storage chests all over the server. Etho then launched an unsubscription service, where Hermits could pay to stop deliveries of free glass.

Boat Bomb (Season 8)
Prankster(s): Grian, ImpulseSV, PearlescentMoon Victim(s): TangoTek, BDoubleO100, Keralis
In an attempt to share the lag in the Boatem village with other areas of the server, the members of Boatem dispensed hundreds of boats onto a single block above the Big Eyes base. When Tango nudged the boats, they exploded outward and rained down upon the bay, completely covering the area in boats.

Nether Death Loop (Season 7)
Prankster(s): Grian, BDoubleO100 Victim(s): GoodTimesWithScar
To initiate Scar into the nether base group of the Upside Down, Grian and BDubs gifted him a respawn anchor, under which they wrangled and hid several silenced hoglins. Each time Scar respawned, one person would charge the anchor, while the other would flip a lever to retract a block and drop Scar down into the hoglin pit, trapping him in a continuous death loop.

Note
i find it a little funny that 3 of the 4 pranks going forward were helped made by grian (or he was the one who came up with the idea) and all are from different seasons. 7, 8, and 9. (little sad abt don’t attempt murder/filling biffas bowl losing tho. still quite a bit funny it could be seen as a friendly competition between grian vs etho, where in one etho helps out with the prank in s9.)
Based on the nomination stats, Grian was by far the most commonly nominated prankster: 76 out of 192 nominations! Though on the flip side, he was also the most commonly nominated victim. Which is a rather funny duality.

Some have rightfully pointed out that I left an important element of Don't Attempt Murder out of its description, which is that Joe left upwards of 30 signs (numbered, for reading order convenience) containing adapted monologues from video games, spanning multiple floors of Grian's base. Grian ended up reading very few of these. Thank you to parchmentengineer for transcribing them here!
Hermit Prank War: Round 3 Match 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Don't Attempt Murder (Season 6)
Prankster(s): Joe Hills Victim(s): Grian
Joe, having taken extreme umbrage with Grian's attempt at making the Hall of Atonement into a lethal prank using lava, retaliated by "helping" Grian light up his base using several lava buckets that flowed from the tops of his spires. When Grian confronted him, Joe passed him the IOU that Grian had given him much earlier in the season, thus completely avoiding all consequences. Joe then became a member of the G-Team in the ensuing Civil War.
Nether Death Loop (Season 7)
Prankster(s): Grian, BDoubleO100 Victim(s): GoodTimesWithScar

Hermit Prank War: Round 3 Match 4
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Boat Bomb (Season 8)
Prankster(s): Grian, ImpulseSV, PearlescentMoon Victim(s): TangoTek, BDoubleO100, Keralis

Filling Biffa's Bowl (Season 1)
Prankster(s): Joe Hills, Hypnotizd, GenerikB Victim(s): Biffa2001
Biffa was in the process of draining a large circle of ocean, an especially difficult feat in the days before sponges. Joe, Hypno, and GenerikB teamed up to create a layer of water source blocks at the surface, seemingly undoing all of Biffa's progress. Notably, Joe had not yet even met Biffa at the time of the prank, as this was one of his first acts as a member of Hermitcraft.

Free Glass (Season 7)

One Fateful Sign (Season 6)
Prankster(s): ZombieCleo Victim(s): FalseSymmetry, Rendog, Iskall85 (indirectly)
Iskall left False a statue of a chicken with Grian's hair on top of her base, complete with diorite "bird poop" dripping down the side, and proudly signed his work. However, Cleo happened upon the statue before False saw it, and they decided to change the sign with Iskall's name to Ren's instead. The consequences that spiraled outwards from this single act culminated in the season 6 Civil War.

The Jingler (Season 6)
Prankster(s): Cubfan135 Victim(s): Everyone
While the Jingler's actual pranks were largely small scale--most of which involved leaving mysterious signs with the catchphrase "#Jingled", and once notably editing the pure white map that made up Grian's infinity room to add the message, "YOU HAVE BEEN J-J-JINGLED!!!"--the true prank laid in the long-running mystery of the Jingler's identity. No one truly knew who the Jingler was until nearly four years later, during a Hermitcraft 10 year anniversary stream where Cub finally confessed.
