i don't even know why i'm friends with these people. i only know them through my colleague who i don't even like. and i do like them; they're nice and fun, but we don't have much in common and i don't think they're all that interested in getting to know me better, except for this one couple. and even with them-- i leave most conversations with them mysteriously bereft. they're the only ones where i don't feel like i'm actively bothering them with my presence, if only because they ask for it, but there's still this overwhelming sense of "i don't belong here" that makes me want to pull away at the slightest hint of discomfort
