I knew I wanted to make something a little more ambitious for my hundredth Jellicle, and I thought this was perfect. I’ve made some before with removable pieces so it wasn’t new territory or anything. I’m very excited about her, I don’t get to make Jenny too often so getting to make this one and have it be a more special project was really fun. 

It’s been almost a year since I made my first Jellicle plush, and tbh I never thought I’d be sitting here in the triple digits. I got so much encouragement after I made the US Tour 6 cast’s plushies and started to take commissions, and I’ve gotten to send my little guys across the world because of it. This has been such a fun ongoing project for me and I wouldn’t be doing it without support from everyone. So to anyone who has commissioned me, appreciated my little Jellicles, followed this blog, however you’ve supported me, thank you. It means the world to me.

This post is in desperate need of an addendum, because I've fallen off my belief in the holy Munkutrinity of Barton-Gruber-Auler. After seeing Vienna three times in a week: two times with Alexander Auler, once with Florian Fetterle, and the Fetterstrap is now my favorite Munkustrap, ranking above Gruber and possible even Barton.

It's not that Florian puts up a better performance than Alexander, but his portrayal is more fitting to my HC of the character. I would say that Fetterstrap is the same character as Aulerstrap: but a few years older and wiser. Where Aulerstrap is still asserting his dominance as protector of the tribe, Fetterstrap already has attained that position and has grown comfortable in his role, mores secure in his position.

And I just have a soft spot for baritone Munks, I prefer the warm deep voice of Fetterstrap over the boyish twinge that Aulerstrap has.

Excuse me, do you have time to talk about our Lord and Saviour Munkustrap?

Who is your favourite strap and why? For me it's the holy trinity of Steve Barton - Michael Gruber - Alexander Auler.

Bartonstrap is the Munk you go to for fatherly advice.

What?!!?! People spoke ill of SJT's Jellylorum? Excuse me, need to speak to the manager!

Her performance of Jellylorum in '98 is the perfect amount of maternal strictness towards the kittens to offset Jennyannydots' jollyness. And when she picks up the pace in Theatre in that waltzy flowing voice is just chef's kiss.

I'm sorry, people watched Susan Jane Tanner's performance in the 1998 film and didn't come away from it absolutely *loving* Jellylorum?? Where are they, I just wanna talk...

They’re peppered everywhere - used to be way more prominent back in the day, so fortunately you won’t see that as much anymore for the most part. But I remember. Little Jemi remembers. “She’s too old, Jelly isn’t supposed to be old and wrinkled, her face is so severe, her voice is annoying, she was so rough pulling Victoria away and she smiled when Gus was crying what a bitch!1”, etc etc etc. More modern fans used “Karen” here and there, lmao (Like okay uh…where exactly). Even seasoned fans complained about her casting (and John Mills’ casting too, but that’s another point entirely) and her being too old and shrill for the part.

Fanfic writers had a field day with her - guess how many times she was framed as homophobic in old-school tuggoffelees fanfics? Guess how often she was just there to be sour and a naysayer and a frankly militant mom figure?

The goal I have for modern fandom is that we never fall back into this rigamarole ever again. I’m not saying you have to *like* SJT as Jelly, I’m not even saying you need to *like* Jelly herself, but I am saying you have to treat her with the same level of *basic respect* as anyone else in the cast, and stop allowing the bias against older women colour your opinion of an entire character.
