JAKE PAUL IS moving into mixed martial arts and will do so with the Professional Fighters League. The entertainer and social media influencer-turned-professional boxer announced Thursday that he has signed an MMA contract with PFL. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but PFL chairman and co-founder Donn Davis told ESPN it is a multifight, multiyear deal. Paul, 25, holds a professional boxing record of 6-0 with four knockouts. His highest-profile fights have come against MMA fighters, including former UFC champions Tyron Woodley and Anderson Silva. Paul has teased a transition to MMA in the past but is expected to continue his professional boxing career as well. "I've proven myself in and out of the boxing ring and now I am going to do the same in MMA," Paul said in a statement. "There is no limit to the positive impact I can make on the sport. I plan to enter the PFL SmartCage and once again show the world that anything is possible with hard work and dedication." There is no time frame for Paul's MMA debut, but he told The New York Times that he wants to face MMA superstar Nate Diaz this year -- first in a boxing match then in a MMA fight with PFL. Diaz, 37, is currently a combat sports free agent after he fought out his UFC contract for the first time since 2007. —Brett Okamoto, ESPN Follow @inkagnedotv #jakepaul #mma #pfl #ufc https://www.instagram.com/p/CnN82wWr21y/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

D.L. Hughley feels the media isn’t covering Dana White’s scandal in the same capacity they do Black men. The outspoken comedian took to social media on Wednesday (Jan. 4) to speak his mind on White’s physical altercation with his wife, claiming that if the UFC head honcho were a Black celebrity, they would be getting arrested immediately. “If one of Dana Whites fighters had beat his wife like that,” The D.L. Hughley Show creator expressed. “He’d already have been arrested! #TeamDl” Hughley, 59, cited names like Chris Brown, Antonio Brown, and Bobby Brown, celebrities who’ve had tumultuous and heavily media-examined lives, to compare the differences in white and Black coverage by the news. “If Chris Brown, Bobby Brown, or Antonio Brown did what Dana White did, the media wouldn’t stop talking about it!! What can Brown do for you?[…] Be White!!” The 53-year-old released a statement regarding the situation, stating that there wasn’t “an excuse for a guy to put his hands on a woman.” “You’ve heard me say for years, ‘There is never, ever an excuse for a guy to put his hands on a woman.’ And now here I am on TMZ talking about it,” UFC’s boss stated. “My wife and I have been married for almost thirty years. We’ve known each other since we were 12 years old. We’ve obviously been through some sh*t together.” “I’m literally making no excuses for this thing at all. It’s never happened before. It’s the first time it’s ever happened. People are going to say what they’re going to say and it is what it is. Whatever people do say is deserved. I deserve it… My wife and I have apologized to each other.” —Marc Griffin, Vibe Follow @inkagnedotv #ufc #kingsofcomedy #media https://www.instagram.com/p/CnNelStpRsJ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Travis Scott, J. Cole, and Playboi Carti are among the artists either rumored or confirmed to be dropping new projects in 2023. If you’re wondering which rapper will deliver your 2023 soundtrack, we’ve got a few ideas. While 2022 brought us eagerly awaited albums from stars including Kendrick Lamar and Pusha T, who both made Billboard‘s year-end hip-hop albums list, MCs like Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, Drake, J. Cole, A$AP Rocky and Playboi Carti have all alluded to new projects arriving in 2023. Some have confirmed it outright in open forums like Reddit, while others have taken a more subtle approach — like completely wiping their Instagram feeds, or casually name-dropping an album title. —Neena Rouhani, Billboard Follow @inkagnedotv https://www.instagram.com/p/CnIS7PKyEpR/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Pelé, who was declared a national treasure in his native Brazil, achieved worldwide celebrity and helped popularize the sport in the United States. Pelé, one of soccer’s greatest players and a transformative figure in 20th-century sports who achieved a level of global celebrity few athletes have known, died on Thursday in São Paulo. He was 82. His death was confirmed by his manager, Joe Fraga. The Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein in São Paulo said the cause was multiple organ failure, the result of the progression of colon cancer. Pelé had been receiving treatment for cancer in recent years, and he entered the hospital several weeks ago for treatment of a variety of health issues, including a respiratory infection. A national hero in his native Brazil, Pelé was beloved around the world — by the very poor, among whom he was raised; the very rich, in whose circles he traveled; and just about everyone who ever saw him play. —Lawrie Mifflin, The New York Times Follow @inkagnedotv #pele #brazil #soccer #football https://www.instagram.com/p/CmxBq2By3eQ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Tony Yayo has produced some hilarious moments over social media in 2022, but he’s also got some takes on rappers and how they conduct business. The 44-year-old stated that 50 Cent treats his artists better than Jay-Z earlier this week. The “So Seductive” rapper appeared on ThisIs50 on Tuesday (Dec. 27) and spoke with Uncle Murda about both of their careers. The two-time Platinum rapper revealed that he is still able to tour and perform overseas at this stage of his life, despite not being as active as he was during G-Unit’s prime, due to the label’s leader breaking bread. “That’s why I respect him because we have more of an assist,” Yayo said. “We have 50 Cent so I knew I was okay. He sold 11 million records I’m gonna get a percentage of his fans. I’m good. He had the kind of more do it on his own.” The Thoughts Of A Predicate Felon artist then turned his attention to Hov, whom Murda was once signed to before the Marcy rapper left Roc-A-Fella Records in 2008. “He had deals with JAY-Z and them but JAY-Z ain’t gonna never… I always tell them all the time JAY-Z ain’t treating you like this ni**a.” The “Rap Up” rapper, signed to 50 Cent’s G-Unit since 2016, later chimed in to thank the 4:44 rapper for getting him his first six-figure check, which led Tony Yayo to clarify his comments. “I’m quite sure Hov and a lot of artists, they treat some of their artists maybe good, maybe not. I’m just telling you how we get treated. I don’t know [if] JAY-Z ever had him in the Armani Hotel.” Yayo previously spoke on the 50 Cent and Jay-Z comparison on DJ Vlad’s show back in August. He revealed that the “In Da Club” rapper set aside $1 million for him while he was in jail. —Armon Sadler, VIBE Follow @inkagnedotv #tonyyayo #vladtv #50cent #thisis50 https://www.instagram.com/p/CmwUHENLOwU/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Southwest Airlines accounted for about 85 percent of canceled domestic flights Tuesday, drawing the attention of U.S. regulators and lawmakers amid a days-long meltdown of holiday air travel that began with a winter storm late last week. More than 3,000 U.S. flights were canceled Tuesday among all carriers, with Southwest accounting for more than 2,600 of the total — a problem the airline blamed partly on tools for tracking and creating employee schedules. The airline grounded 64 percent of its scheduled flights Tuesday, even as other carriers appeared to recover. Among other major domestic carriers, about 2 percent of flights were not operating as planned, according to flight-tracking website FlightAware. The carrier’s disruptions attracted fresh scrutiny from Capitol Hill and the Transportation Department, which said it was looking into Southwest’s “unacceptable” handling of cancellations. The chaos upended plans for tens of thousands of frustrated air travelers at a time when industry executives and analysts had expressed optimism over their ability to handle an onslaught of holiday passengers. —BY JUSTIN GEORGE, RACHEL LERMAN AND HANNAH SAMPSON, CNN Follow @inkagnedotv #southwestairlines #airportlife https://www.instagram.com/p/Cmtw_hWrY2O/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Lil B has surprised fans this Christmas with a brand new album, but instead of being a Hip Hop release The Based God has stepped into the world of jazz. On Thursday (December 22), the California rapper took to Twitter to announce the release of Afrikantis, a 14-track instrumental release that he claimed might be “one of the most important jazz projects ever.” Afrikantis is the latest project to be added to Lil B’s lengthy discography, and it’s his fourth full-length release of 2022. Both Frozen and The Frozen Tape arrived simultaneously in June, and Thraxxx Kiss followed in late August. It’s not the first time Lil B has put out an instrumental album. In 2012, the former Pack rapper dropped a pair of projects under his Based God alias: Tears 4 God and Choices and Flowers. —ill Will, HipHopDX Follow @inkagnedotv #lilb #afrikantis #inkagnedotv #souljaboy #hiphopnews https://www.instagram.com/p/CmpHnWGJlTg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Shannon Sharpe wasn't pleased with Ja Morant's comments about the Western Conference, and he let the Memphis Grizzlies star know about it. Earlier, Morant had confidently outlined that he was "fine in the West" in an interview with ESPN's Malika Andrews. At the time of writing, the side has the second-best record in the Western Conference. The Grizzlies have a string of tough matchups coming up. They face the Phoenix Suns twice in their next three games with a clash against the Golden State Warriors sandwiched in between. Needless to say, Sharpe wasn't too pleased with Morant's confident response and had some choice replies in the offing. Shannon Sharpe Blasts Ja Morant: "Bruh, Y'all Not Good" Not the one to mince words, Shannon Sharpe took his shot at the Grizzlies' star when speaking to Skip Bayless on 'Undisputed'. Morant has been playing some high-quality basketball averaging 27.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 7.8 assists, and his efforts have been translating into wins for the team. The guard has already garnered MVP chatter, but Sharpe was not having any of it. Only time will tell if Sharpe was indeed right in his views, or whether Morant and the Grizzlies will prove him wrong as they stake the claim for another playoff and beyond run this season. —Aaron Abhishek, Fadeaway World Follow @inkagnedotv #shannonsharpe #jamorant #nba #espn #inkagnedotv https://www.instagram.com/p/Cmo12pDrXLG/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Benny The Butcher has defended the violent and drug-riddled rap music consumed by the masses, claiming “positive” messages turn listeners off. In a P.S.A. posted on his Instagram Stories on Thursday (December 22), the Buffalo, New York native addressed the continued criticism that Hip Hop’s street-oriented practitioners face, not-so-politely telling critics to “shut the fuck up” and let people enjoy the music — because it’s clearly what they like. Benny The Butcher isn’t the only rapper with an opinion on the topic. Last month, 50 Cent shared his thoughts on whether Hip Hop has become more violent in recent years. “I think it’s the same energy but we’re in a different period so it looks different,” he said on his Hip Hop Homicides show. “It’s gonna happen where everyone can take a look on camera. When Nipsey gets killed, for the first time they saw him get killed. “Because of social media, everyone’s involved now. Because those kids in middle America are clicking the fucking button to look and are fascinated with the killings because they’re living on a side so wild compared to the conservative lifestyle they’re having.” — Michael Saponara, HipHopDX Follow @inkagnedotv #bennythebutcher #hiphop #50cent #rapmusic https://www.instagram.com/p/Cmo18biLhAt/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Atlanta rapper Gunna has been released from jail after he pleaded guilty to a racketeering conspiracy charge in a sweeping gang indictment against him, rapper Young Thug and several other alleged members of the Young Slime Life criminal street gang. Channel 2 Investigative Reporter Mark Winne was the only television journalist in the courtroom Wednesday as Gunna, whose real name is Sergio Kitchens, faced a judge. The rapper entered a negotiated plea, known as an Alford plea, in which a defendant doesn’t admit he committed the crime, but acknowledges that it is in his best interest to plead guilty. The charge Gunna faced was one count of conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corruption Act. Gunna was sentenced to five years with one served in prison. The one-year sentence was commuted to time served. The four-year remaining balance on his sentence has been suspended and will be subject to special conditions including 500 hours of community service. After the sentence came down, the rapper released a statement, saying: “While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way.” Despite saying that he will not testify, it is a condition of Gunna’s trial that he testifies if he is called, though he can claim the Fifth Amendment. Gunna, Young Thug and 26 others were arrested in May in a sweeping gang indictment that claimed YSL is a violent criminal street gang that has committed multiple murders, shootings and carjackings over the course of a decade. Prosecutors said that the rappers promoted the gang’s activities in songs and on social media. —WSBTV 2 Atlanta News Staff https://www.instagram.com/p/CmMewJnrlKa/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
