BC Awareness Month Day 2: My Story PT. 1 . Although I will be delving into the full story tomorrow, I suppose it's best to start at the beginning... . Boy meets girl 💘 Boy and girl fall in love 💖 Boy and girl spend 5 years building their careers and enjoying each other's company 😏 Boy and girl decide it's finally time to add a plus one to their dynamic duo 👪 . It was supposed to be the stuff of dreams. It was supposed to be an answered prayer. It was supposed to be the beginning of everything. . But, a self-discovered "knot" and infertility woes quickly sent our hopes down the drain as the words "breast cancer" and "perimenopause" confirmed that not only would our duo never be a trio, our duo may eventually dwindle down to one. . Learning that after years of waiting to start a family, the wait was no longer a holding pattern--it was the final nail in the fertility coffin for us. There would be no ultrasound pictures or the comforting throb of a baby's heart beating. No getting to witness our child's soccer star audition in my stomach. No getting to organize the storage bins full of the baby clothes, toys, and books I had collected over the years in preparation of the day I got to tell my hubby: "We're pregnant." It was all I had dreamed about since I said "I do" to the man who makes my heart whole. . We were forced to grieve the loss of the children who would never be ours, birthdays that wouldn't be celebrated, bedtime stories that would never be read, and the words "mom" and "dad" never being uttered for the very first time--or any time. . But even though BC came through our lives with the intent to destroy everything we had built, our embattled castle still stands strong. Fear and turmoil gave way to a fresh perspective and peace. Powerlessness gave way to purpose. We traded our Plan A dreams for new ones that we're working hard to realize. . How did we get there?
