FIRST LISTEN : The structure is the same as other black pink songs but it’s pretty obvious that lyric wise they did go for something different. I have to say, i don’t hate it but I’m sure that people will be hating it. I liked that the strong vocal part at the end was shared by Jisoo and Rose, and I liked Jennie and Lisa’s rap part (that might be a n unpopular opinion) a lot more than the other raps they’ve done. It didn’t make me cringe at all, which is rare. The chorus is pretty catchy in my opinion.

CLOSER ANALYSIS: I really liked the opening scene, with Jisoo, it caught my eye and I liked how they made that part. The BLAAACKPINK part, I did not hate. I actually liked how different it was. Jennie’s first verse… it’s growing on me. I really love Jennie’s tone when she raps, and besides that first line, I like the rest of her first verse. ALSO lisa always has the really cringey lines in bc songs, and I did not cringe. ‘Look what you made us do’…. I like that part, Roses voice and the way she sings it made it powerful for me. I saw someone say Taylor swift vibes, and yeah that obv reminds me of Taylor. but the rest of the song does not. I realllly liked Jisoo’s lines. Obviously translations never capture the beauty of languages, but the English translations made her lines sound really pretty.

the chorus. I knew it was the chorus while listening, but looking over it, it is… def not a blackpink chorus. But I don’t see anything wrong with that. It is repetitive, and soft but i actually lik that. It made it catchy very quickly. I also love the music video, the styling, the makeup, just mm it looks very good in the first chorus.

The rap is shocking every time I listen to it, BUT I LOVE RAPS like the one that they did, so I’m glad it’s in there. I was definitely listening close for lyrics that would be… well cancellable, but I think they veered from it. I really liked Jennie in this rap, which is expected, but i liked Lisa’s rap too, which was not something I was expecting, so I’m glad i liked it.

The repeated pre-chorus. Blackpink stick with their structure of leaving the pre chorus up to rose and Jisoo, giving them the same lines and then switching who sings them… I did not like it this time though. It was so much better when they first sang it, they really suited their first lines.

I again liked the outfits and sets in the second chorus. I also am interested in how they shot solo shots and sprinkle them in there. A lot oof it tends to be Jennie and Lisa cause they’re the ones saying the chorus, but the shots are so quick to leave Jisoo and Rose that it annoys me. I wish they held onto those shots for longer.

now here’s the part that ruined the song for me. The gra ta ta ta. I mean, it just feels lazy. you couldn’t put lyrics? You couldn’t put interesting instrumentals like the beginning? It didn’t even feel like a yg party anthem part. it’s boring and plain and it takes out the enjoyment of the song for me.

The music video, outfits, sets, everything about it from that perspective, I loved, but it’s Blackpink and they always serve on that aspect. the music… well, as you know, I enjoyed it until the very end with the gra ta ta ta. if that part was taken out, I’d genuinely like the song. Definitely not a favourite song of the year, but I like this different style of music for blackpink.

before I end this, i do have a tiny thought that could get me attacked. I don’t think Jisoo suits this concept well? every time a shot is on her, her facial expression is so plain? i understand struggling with making expressions as intense as Jennie’s or Lisa’ but its just a stark contrast because it’ll be a shot of rose or Jennie or lisa and then Jisoo is there like 😐 and it’s very obvious, despite the minimal screen time that Jisoo has when all four members are together.

Was anyone else really overwhelmed by the frequent changes in set design and outfits in LALISA though?? Like I would see fits and sets I really liked and it would only be there for 3 seconds 😭 it felt expensive yet all over the place at the same time tbh. Like they couldn’t stick with a theme and go with it. It’s really a personal pet peeve of mine honestly but like that gold outfit and set deserved most of the screen time in my opinion, that bLEW ME AWAY. It was nice to have it at the end though, when everything else felt overwhelming and underwhelming at the same time?

Was hoping someone would say this like… I thought they’d at least give something that could be iconic?? It just didn’t give me iconic choreo vibes, I only remember the lalisa love me part, and it’s just too basic, yk? I’ve only really listened and watched the choreo a few times but I don’t remember there being a dance break?? If there was it was forgettable. I mean like, this is LISA so I was expecting more DANCE because it’s what stands out about her.

i just watched the jimmy fallon performance and the choreo was so underwhelming...

Let’s talk about MAMA 2020 pt.1

1. Hwasa’s maria performance.. omg, y’all mamamoo will never stop slaying. Like that intro had me so shocked. I’m pretty sure there was a cut for the outfit change, i don’t know shit about editing but i can appreciate good editing. Hwasa just seemed so confident, like always, her charmisa was just blasted into my face. Had me gaping the whole time. backup dancers were as great as always too. 

2. oh..my...god! Let’s get the ending out of the way. It was absolutley stunning. made me audibally gasp, jessi’s nunu nana was already a great song to hype me up but this version... I don’t know how to explain it but it kinda gave me anime opening vibes? The BGM did and her vocals with it- idk an anime studio should think about asking her for it. speaking of her vocals, beautiful, of course, live vocals are to die for. i loved how the backup dancers had masks and gloves, and they slayed as well, they all did amazing! 

3. NCT 127′s kick it didn’t have the wow factors i think the previous two did. I think they seem kind of tired, and I completely understand that, they’ve been doing promotions after promotions this whole year and i really need SM TO GIVE THEM REST. I love seeing them perform ofc, but like please they need a break. I’ve been saying this since kick it came out. But besides their health which is a big concern for me, I did really liek Mark’s solo stage,I think he did great! At the beginning, I really only heard Mark’s voice, like Johnny’s lips were moving but no matter how much I strained my ears i could not hear him. I don’t blame them for lip syncing, this is a tiring song to dance and sing to at the same time. In conclusion, give these boys a break SM.

4. Nct dream ridin ok um i do have the same complaint- well i dont really want to complain because I understand it’s hard to with hard hitting dances and light vocals- about no live vocals. Even with Jisung who was just sitting on a motercycle- which was actually something i really liked, i found it so funny to see the other 5 dancing while he’s just on the motercycle. Besides that, I think the best part was Jeno. His charisma really got to me, even tho the vocals didn’t. (I sound nitpicky, ik, but live vocals is so important to me) 

5. so i love NCT U’s From home. And I also really liked this preformance. Before I praise it, I’ll get the complaints out of the way; the background music was way stronger than the vocals and thats not what you need in a song like this. Idk why SM doesn’t want us to hear these guys voices but oh well. Second, they do look extrememely fatigued and it really hurts my heart. SM GIVE THEM RESTTT. Now the things that I really liked. The background, with nct just being wholesome, really gave me the feel of it being a performance for czennies so that was adorable. When the other members came in as well, I gasped. I would’ve prefered if they showed up on stage and then ran to NCT U and then they all saw the nanana part together but i don’t work for Sm so oh well (Sm you know you wanna hire me) anywayyys a little bonus thing i actually gasped for was Doyoung’’s visuals. I really love the eyes of a person, and I just- when i saw his eyes i gasped. And whenever the camera men went on to him I literally sighed in admiration. Also i was very sure that they were tired when i saw Chenle, who is still somehow lookin stunning. But still very tired, PLEASE SM THIS IS THE LAST TIME ILL ASK GIVE THEM REST. 

6. Stray kids victory song- havent heard it in so longg and they brought it back. In the best way. Just this whole performance was the best. Im a skz ult and ig this is kinda biased but come on. You cant say that stray kids didnt slay. Because they absolutley did. (I actually cried tears of joy watching this preformance.btw) the live vocals hit so hard, the execution was phenomenal. Just.. Wow.

My own ranking of The Album.

1. Love To Hate Me

Fave line:

"Wake up yeah. Makeup maybe. I need you nah. I been good lately. Blowin' up. Workin' buzy." - Jennie, Rosé, Lisa (is it a combination of all their voices? I'm not sure. Don't judge)

Thoughts: Lisa's rap. Freaking hell. Stop it! Everything about this song is just amazing. I got nothing else to say.

2. Crazy Over You

Fave line:

"Feels wrong but it's right, right. Blacked out no night light. Pinked out like fight night" - Jennie (rapper Jennie!!!!!!)

Thoughts: Those vocal by Rosé and Jisoo before the chorus. My favorite part - probably of the whole album. I also love the intro. Such a different sound from them and I love it. Keep it coming.

3. Pretty Savage

Fave lines:

"I won't talk about popularity cuz my mouth will hurt" - Jennie

"If you mad stay mad we not alike. SAVAGE keep it pretty pretty savage" - Lisa

Thoughts:

I looove this kind of sound for Blackpink. It's so baddass!! They are talking to their haters and they should, because they have accomplished so much despite them. It's a slap in the haters' faces.

4. Lovesick Girls

Fave lines:

"Love is slippin' and fallin'. Love is killin' you darlin'" - Rosé

"You pity me, but I pity you more for pitying me" - Jisoo

Thoughts:

My favorite title song of Blackpink. Of all time - there is no discussion. I love their vocals. The rawness, but stil the fun 80's type of feel. I can't wait to see this at an award show or something. Like for real. There is no negative thing to say about this song in my opinion.

5. You Never Know

Fave line:

"Cause everybody sees what they wanna see. It's easier to judge me than to believe." - Rosé

Thoughts: I could literally cry my eyes out. This song hit so much harder than Stay or Hope not. Freaking Jisoo's vocal could make my cry on their own. Such a beautiful way to end the album.

6. Bet U Wanna (ft. Cardi B)

Fave line:

"If you want me better bet higher wanna look down up in the sky ahh" - Jennie

Thoughts:

Oh god all Rosé's high notes at the end of the song! I mean come on. How can you do this to me Rosé? This song has a lovely groove to it. Like a great ass car song.

7. How You Like That

Fave line:

"Don't like me? Then tell me how you like that." - Lisa

Thoughts:

A baddass pre-single. Goes down the same road as Ddu Du Ddu Du and Kill This Love, but I love these empowered songs. They are like look at you now look at me - we are on top! Oh yes you are!

8. Ice Cream (ft. Selena Gomez)

Fave line:

"You're the cherry piece just stay on top of me so I can't see nobody else for me no" - Jisoo (just because her English wowed me)

Thoughts:

A cute (pink concept) summer song. I loved the music video and how they made sure that the song wasn't only them. They gave Selena time to shine while still showcasing their own vocals. It isn't a song I would listen to on a daily basis, but it's fun and keeps a smile on my face.
