I want to talk about "Zelda's fall" and break down all the little nuances that Nintendo built so beautifully into this scene.
Tumblr media
The floor is crumbling around them, but Zelda's first concern is her knight's wellbeing.
Tumblr media
The floor gives out beneath her feet and she falls, reaching out to the man with whom she feels safest, her dedicated knight, Link.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Link doesn't even hesitate. The moment he sees Zelda falling, he drops the sword and reaches out to her, but she's already fallen too far.
Tumblr media
He reaches anyway, grasping at hope that he can extend his arm just a little bit more, just inches more and he'll catch her, no matter that they're now both hurtling toward a seemingly voided ground.
Tumblr media
She continues to reach out, because she has unflinching faith in her chosen knight, the man once appointed to her, but he, whom she now gladly keeps at her side. She knows Link will do anything to ensure her safety, so she reaches out to him as she falls.
Tumblr media
Their fingers nearly brush, but it's not enough.
Tumblr media
She's falling too fast for Link to grab onto her hand.
Tumblr media
Link gasps, and reaches his hand as if he can recall her to him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And as she falls, she reaches in the same way, as if she can slow her descent just by willing her hand to reach further, to grasp onto Link's hand, but she's still falling too fast.
Tumblr media
And that's when she disappears completely from his sight.
Tumblr media
But he's still reaching, even as Raru's arm grabs him to prevent his fall. He's still reaching for her.
Tumblr media
And so is she, even as she falls into the past, she's still reaching out for Link.

TOTK SPOILERS
so I just discovered something.
I discovered that at some point during your quest, "Zelda" appears on the great plateau where the old man used to be when you first wake up. But it's not actually Zelda. It's a Yiga disguised as Zelda as yet another attempt to trap Link.
AND HE SAYS THIS.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'M LOSING MY MIND ABT THIS ONE YALL.
BECAUSE LINK IS GRASPING AT STRAWS. HE JUST WANTS HIS GIRL BACK. EVERY TRICK IS ADDING FUEL TO HIS FERAL HATE OF THE CLAN. I GENUINELY CANNOT BELIEVE HOW OBVIOUS IT IS THAT THE ONLY THING LINK WANTS IN THIS LIFE IS ZELDA. HE'S ONLY DOING ALL OF THIS SHIT WITH GANONDORF BECAUSE ITS THE ONLY WAY TO GET HER BACK.

I love the comedic potential behind Sidon and Link's friendship (in a way where Sidons the really enthusiastic bestie while Link's like 😐👍 ). Like Sidon's definitely the first one to find out about how Link feels about Zelda and him not knowing Hylian dating culture or whatever goes deep into researching helpful tips for Link and whenever he catches them together he's pulling Link aside to be like "BESTIE I heard that Hylians like writing songs for their loved ones so I brought a few singers from the royal Zora choir whenever you're ready also lets practice your lyrics I have a few ideas"

Crying over how the first thing Fi told Zelda is that Link is alive. She didn’t immediately say that the Master Sword needs Zelda’s help to restore it or anything. The most important thing Fi wanted her to know is that Link is safe.

after knowing the whole story of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, I still can't believe Nintendo really went for the Princess and the Knight trope

spoilers under the cut!
omg I love this so much because it’s true! it was so painful to find out what she did but she had to do it and when she says “Link, you must find me” it’s because of the fact that she HAS the master sword to help him in defeating Ganondorf.
It was Link’s own quest to “Find Princess Zelda”. The quest didn’t complete when he found her as the Light Dragon, it only completed when he finally found her again as just Zelda herself 😭
TotK Spoilers below
Anyways I love how in TotK Zelda isn't asking Link to find her in order to save her. Zelda doesn't need saving in this game. At all. She knows exactly what she's doing when she eats the stone, and she made peace with the fact that she would live out eternity as a dragon with no more connection to Link or to the rest of Hyrule. In all reality, she died. No really - hear me out. She, as in Zelda, everything she is and was, died when she decided to become a dragon. That's what it means to 'lose oneself' in becoming an immortal dragon. And she knew that. She made her choice, she knew the consequences, she was willing to make that sacrifice and fully, completely see it through. She didn't expect or even want to be turned back into a human (certainly primarily because she didn't know that was an option, but still). Zelda doesn't need or want to be saved.
If anything, Zelda is the one doing the saving in this game. Yes, Link is the one who takes Ganondorf down, but he literally could not do it without Zelda. He would have died without her. Dragondorf literally had him caught between his teeth and easily would have killed him if it weren't for Zeldragon swooping in. That's not even mentioning how if it weren't for her, the master sword would still be practically inoperable (though of course we know Link could defeat Ganondorf without it).
Anyways point is, I love that finally, Zelda doesn't need saving. She makes her own choices, she is ready to see the consequences of those choices through, and she doesn't need, want, or expect that anyone will come to her aid - instead, she is the one coming to Link's aid, and I just think that's neat.
