so wait tell me about alastair

Oh boy, what all do I even say?

Well, basics. He's a human warlock, but he's basically unaware of his patron. He was a little nerd boy growing up and read a lot about magic and runes and burial practices and such, so I'm sure he knows by this point he must Have a warlock patron, but he has no idea how he entered into a contract with one, or why one would choose him. I'm playing it so that his patron is the Raven Queen and she's technically an archfey patron for him in this campaign.

Not gonna go too much in depth with his backstory (but you know it's Tragic), but we're playing in Faerûn and he's from Bryn Shander. So he's spent a long time on the road traveling south. Shortly before the campaign, Song ran into him on the side of the road and invited to take him to the Firefly Festival going on outside of Elturel.

Alastair is very closed off and generally mistrusting. He doesn't really like to talk about himself, and initiating conversation is hard for him, but it doesn't really matter in the group he's in because his new party mates are plenty talkative. Dearleigh (my older sister's drow rogue) is generally on the same page with him in terms of skepticism and suspicion of others, so she usually ends up saying what he might be thinking at times. Slowly but surely he's becoming more and more comfortable hanging out with people.

Currently, he silently enjoys Dearleigh's antics. He thinks she's funny, but he's not going to tell her that because he Knows it would go straight to her head. But she also very much Gets Shit Done, so he respects that.

He's not so sure what to think of Flester (my aunt's half-elf bard); he knows Flester is primarily a pacifist and wonders what his goals are just in general - though he's sure others are thinking that of him as well.

And Song is the first person he's felt comfortable around in a Long time. He has a calming presence, not to mention he's strong and fiercely protective, so Alastair feels very safe around Song and hopes he's not annoyed by him trailing after him like a lost puppy.

SHEESH!!! This is getting a bit long!!! We've only played like 5 sessions and I already feel like I have so much to say! But these are the basics of Alastair right now! We hit level 3 not too long ago; we're doing milestone leveling which I appreciate, and my most used spell is Eldritch Blast (because tbh, why wouldn't it be?)

I just realized the fundamental disconnect for people who think they can "boycott" voting:

People who threaten to withhold their vote are thinking of the government like a business. If you don't like what a business is doing, you can refuse to shop there, and that hurts them.

But your government is not a business, no matter how much the GOP tries to pretend it is, and refusing to participate doesn't hurt it. If you refuse to vote, you still have to live under that government. I know we're all fundamentally broken by late-stage capitalism, but you get that you can't "Well, you just lost a customer" this one, right? YOU AREN'T A CUSTOMER.

Refusing to vote isn't like refusing to buy McDonald's. It's like walking into a McDonald's, handing the cashier $20 (because you still gotta pay taxes whether you vote or not), and saying "Surprise me."

(Oh and during this particular trip, one of the two McDonald's options is maybe not your favorite food, and the other is deadly poison.)

what are you looking forward to?

Ooh!

I'm really looking forward to the next session of the D&D campaign I'm in, because our DM has set up a murder mystery for us to solve, and I'm a HUGE lover of murder mysteries!!

Along those same lines, I've been keeping a fun little journal of all of our sessions, and it's been fun decorating it! It also helps me review what we did to keep events fresh in my mind, and it helps me work through what Alastair (my character) has been feeling as everything happens.

Plus, the journaling feels like a nice creative outlet/ hobby even though I'm basically just re-writing my chicken scratch notes into a nicer form and then drawing pictures with glitter pens around my notes lol
