i think the popular fanon that dick and jason had a horrible awful relationship when jason was robin comes from them actually having an exceedingly normal "boring" relationship (except for the way it intertwined with both of the relationships with bruce which are very not normal)

like sorry but theyre living the life of siblings who have a large age gap where one is out of state attending college (partially true) with the added caveat of being adoptive siblings who haven't met before (mostly true)

when dick finds out about jason sure he blows up at bruce (complicated relationship) but he gives jason his original robin costume and says we're brothers call if you need me (very normal and not complicated relationship)

there's no more idolization and hero worship than a younger brother who thinks his older brother is just as cool as he is lame and there's no more extension and recognition of the self in you my mini me than an older brother who understands dad kinda sucks sometimes

sorry not sorry i find such a mundane relationship in a world where the stakes are always life and death where the relationships are always heart and gut wrenching allegories where connections range from soulmates to mortal enemies with little in between to be interesting as is

#Yes thank you op #Some good fucking analysis #Them having a distant yet amicable relationship is also important to Dick and Jason later in life #For Jason's part it's kinda why he doesn't really have a plan for Dick during UTRH but he does Bruce and even Tim #Just didn't really have that kind of connection with Dick before he died. He didn't feel the same way about him that he did Bruce #This also means that Jason has to build a relationship with Dick post UTRH which is way more interesting than if they already had one #Good or bad #As for Dick it's why his later familial relationships are given so much emphasis #With Jason the 'off to college' metaphor is strong. I mean he literally leaves to go live with the Titans. Can't get more obvious #He's also a very young adult with late teenage/college kid priorities #Those have changed by the time Tim comes around. It's why he's a much more active figure in his life than Jason's #It has nothing to do with malice on Dick's part or a dislike of Jason #It's just timing #Dick is older. He's out of his college years and has a more mature outlook on his life and relationships #He's back in a stage of life where bonding with someone like an adopted little brother would actually be a priority #If you really want to be angsty you can also point out that the last one literally died so that's also an added incentive #But honestly I don't think Dick needed one. He was just in the right place to bond more with Tim #And just so y'all don't think I'm crazy this happens again with Damian #A large part of the reason Dick takes on a parental role for Damian is that he's nearing 30 and well past the point where he can handle tha #Obvious Bruce being 'dead' is also a major factor but Dick's own maturity in life is just as important
