if someone in your life is taking personal offense to you transitioning, or coming out as trans, gay, bi, pan, lesbian, queer and so on, and starting fights with you, getting upset and angry, and stating things to the effect of "that's not how they've known you your whole life", they've made it glaringly apparent that they don't truly know you, and don't care to even try.

they don't know you, they've just made a series of assumptions about you, and having their assumptions corrected is more painful than realizing they were causing you harm in making such assumptions. they are not worth your time. there are people out there who will be far more interested in getting to know who you really are than running with assumptions that they think they know.

Transgender Day of Remembrance

This year’s official list has 327 names:

Those murdered were disproportionately women, usually around my age, more often women of colour. Many more will have gone unreported, and/or misgendered in their deaths.

One of those murders is from my native UK—there was also an attempted murder not far from here though, a trans woman stabbed on her doorstep. Fortunately, she survived. I wonder how many other non-fatal attacks were made in the same year.

51 were in the US; that’s more than one per state. Brazil was worst, with 96 (with a similar population size).

9 were tortured to death; another 3 burned alive; another 3 dismembered.

It can be hard to understand why people hate us so much. We’re mostly just trying to live our lives. I guess we’re an easy target, and dehumanised enough in popular media that our deaths elicit little care. I remember the first time I read in a newspaper about a trans woman being killed, the headline was written as a punchline, “transvestite beaten to death with hoe”, and the article was worse. 

Fast-forward and today the jokes normalising such violence get Netflix specials, and the more serious hate-mongers get #IStandWith— hashtags in their support, as they go on their “I’ve been cancelled” tour and given every platform available. Politicians debate, and “sensible centrists” call for understanding from both sides, which tends to amount to “well we must understand that trans people can’t help being trans, and trans people must understand that we have Legitimate Concerns™ that if we don’t take seriously enough will just result in violence against trans people”. And so the microphone gets passed to the transphobe-du-jour.

Eventually, the world will get better. Education improves, community (and thus a little safety) is easier to find, transphobes start to realise history will judge their crimes like every other bigotry and ‘phobia and ‘ism. Those who are “not transphobic but” will learn to put aside their biases; those who are openly transphobic will become “not transphobic but”. It may never die out, just like racism hasn’t, just like homophobia hasn’t, and so forth, but it will get better. We just have to live to see it.

And that gives me strength sometimes, gives me an extra reason to survive when I don’t always want to. Transphobes want to see me die, and I will do my level best to thrive instead. It’s not easy and sometimes I feel like a flower growing through concrete. 

But like a flower growing through concrete, I know where I’ve come from and I know where I’m going. I can’t know whether I’ll make it, but I know I must keep trying, and the further I get, the easier it will get along the way. It doesn’t mean there won’t be the occasional storm, or freeze. But, there’s sunshine too. There is love in the world; there is hope.

We owe it to the fallen to live, to thrive, and to strive to make things better in this world.

Tumblr is a thing!

It’s no secret that I have had a mixed relationship with Twitter. I sort of hate micro-blogging for its lack of value, but I also really like cat pictures. I Have been using Twitter for a while now almost exclusively to retweet cute animals, for essentially no reason.

With the Elongated Musk rat of madness now being proclaimed king of the blue bird empire, I have decided it may be time to quit. In part because, well, I mean it’s on fire, and not in the good way. The main reason, is that I have found a better place; somewhere that actually allows me to have a use for my time.

That place is, obviously, Tumblr. Now, I know this isn’t a new place, and it's hardly a revolution, but, unlike Twitter, it offers me some things I want and an option for presenting that information in ways that I enjoy. What’s odd is that if I had have checked out my dusty account over there earlier, I would have jumped ages ago. Melon Husk is the very reason that prompted me to visit it. Good Job Elon, you literally made me check out your rival, you advertised for them you dick end!

Tumblr, unlike Twitter, lets me post anything with no restrictions. I can make (and have made) my ‘likes’ private, which means I can have my usual bad-taste but not publish it! – which I like a lot, as I feel I was saturating my feed with things that don’t really relate to the reasons that someone would follow my wider ‘content.’

It allows me to have a unified page rather than a feed, which, while a subtle difference; it really changes the tone of my social media.

As for Twitter, I will no longer be using it. I may tweet Tumblr posts (as Tumbler has a button for this) from time to time, in order to make sure people know where I can be located. I intend to remove Twitter from my life outside of that though, for now at least.

Maybe this blue bird blight will be a passing thing, I don’t know, but I do know that I can do without the time sync and Tumblr better suits me and the way I want to share my random musings.

lots of people talk about wanting more episodes set just In the tardis and i agree. i think itd be really funny if we had one where the doctor finds out some guy has just been straight up living in the tardis. just hanging out, chilling, wandering round the rooms. the tardis is infinite right so it is entirely possible that theres some things in there the doctor doesnt know about
