A very simple white balance only Infrared conversion. Typically my infrared conversions will be a combination of white balance adjustment and channel swapping. With a white balance only conversion, you get false colours for everything. #photography #landscapes #summer #Surrey #infrared #processed #forest #woods #woodland #trees #infrared_world #infraredphotography #infraredlandscape #visitsurrey fallentree #deadtree #treescape https://www.instagram.com/p/CCoqKb9JynK/?igshid=13de4m3t6z7yv

The great part of Infrared photography is you can’t always tell what a photograph will look like after the processing. This is the Ruined Abbey at Painshill Park, Surrey. Normally it would looks like a classical garden folly, at the edge of the forest on the waterfront. But, this photograph would look better on the front cover of a Stephen King novel. #painshill #painshillpark #photography #landscapes #summer #Surrey #infrared #processed #forest #woods #woodland #trees #infrared_world #infraredphotography #infraredlandscape #visitsurrey #treescape https://www.instagram.com/p/CCUMy--pRUj/?igshid=1jveiemri1hj0

More Infrared Photography from Hatchlands Park. These are possibly my two favourite trees in the Park, which I’ve photographed many times before. They’re both around the same size and same species, it’s just that one of the trees has had a lightning strike, and stays forever frozen in time, until it will eventually fall to the ground. #photography #landscapes #nationaltrust #hatchlandspark #summer #Surrey #infrared #processed #forest #woods #woodland #trees #infrared_world #infraredphotography #infraredlandscape #visitsurrey fallentree #deadtree #treescape (at Hatchlands Park National Trust) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCL6oHYpKKC/?igshid=rakbwtzdk8jx

IR Photography is great for shooting sunny scenes in the middle of the day. IR light behaves in subtly different ways. Trees and Grass glow brightly, Clouds float in a dark black sky, and shadows reveal details where in typical light there would be darkness. #photography #landscapes #nationaltrust #hatchlandspark #summer #Surrey #infrared #processed #forest #woods #woodland #trees #infrared_world #infraredphotography #infraredlandscape #visitsurrey fallentree #deadtree #treescape (at Hatchlands Park National Trust) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCDqXl8pMCW/?igshid=1go0dv16hovek

The National Trusts Hatchlands Park is a great place for infrared tree photography. The park is pretty big, and there are lots of impressive trees, as well as a few storm damaged trees to provide contrast. With lockdown restrictions being lifted, the National Trust have started to open up their Parks and gardens, but with a reduced capacity, which means if you can get tickets, then the parks are pretty quiet, so you won’t be getting too many people in your backgrounds. #photography #landscapes #nationaltrust #hatchlandspark #summer #Surrey #infrared #processed #forest #woods #woodland #trees #infrared_world #infraredphotography #infraredlandscape #visitsurrey (at Hatchlands Park National Trust) https://www.instagram.com/p/CB-diGbJ8Km/?igshid=mw8wlk57l4km

Another Macro shot taken at @rhswisley. Taking these shots is actually quick easy, and doesn’t need to be expensive. For my camera setup, I use my crop sensor EOS-M5, not a budget camera, but as it’s a few years old now, you can pick one up at a reasonable price; A Canon eF 50mm 1.8, the nifty 50, and probably the first lens you should pickup after the default kit lens; And lastly, a set of extension tubes, these allow you get really close when focusing, and can be picked up for £30. Then I set the camera to manual focus and high speed burst shooting, get in position, and then fire off around 10 shots, the idea being that at least some of these will be correctly in focus. The only tricky part is your plane of focus is so small that even minute movements of a millimetre will have a massive impact on where your focus is, so taking many shots is the easiest way to hopefully get a good shot. Hardware: Canon EOS-M5, EF 50mm 1.8, 68mm extension tube. Setup: very sunny day, handheld, manual focus, 1/640 second, F8, ISO 500 #macro #macrophotography #rhswisley #rhs #canon #summer #eosm5 #extensiontube #extensiontubes #flowers #plants #macroart (at RHS Garden Wisley) https://www.instagram.com/p/CB5NOkRJiuB/?igshid=10rrnnqjzdfqa

Midsummer sunshine means lots and lots of infrared light, perfect for capturing the lush parkland around the National Trusts Hatchlands Park, on the outskirts of Guildford Surrey. I’m still working on how to process my infrared images, getting the channels mixed correctly photoshop is more of a dark art than any kind of reproducible preset filter, but I’m getting better, and this summer has provided plenty of sunshine to practice on … expect a lot more infrared images in the coming days. From a technical standpoint, I’ve made good progress on camera settings. After discovering a strange halo effect in my previous attempts, I’ve found that using my 22mm F2 lens as wide open as possible helps to reduce the halo and any flaring. It’s almost as if Infrared light diffracts much quicker than visible light. On the one hand, this is fine because it means you have a quicker shutter speed, just about allowing for hand held shots during the day, but at a cost of reduced depth of field. #photography #landscapes #nationaltrust #hatchlandspark #summer #Surrey #infrared #processed #forest #woods #woodland #trees (at Hatchlands Park National Trust) https://www.instagram.com/p/CB1OEb6pNgC/?igshid=1todsuvze0k14
