Join us this Friday for a virtual movie “get-together” from the comfort of your own home; accompanied by a live Facebook chat. In honor of the start of the Imagine Your Story Summer Reading Program, this week’s Friday Night Flick is the 1998 film, Shakespeare in Love. When Will Shakespeare needs passionate inspiration to break a bad case of writer's block, a secret romance with the beautiful Lady Viola starts the words flowing like never before! There are just two things he'll have to learn about his new love: not only is she promised to marry someone else, she's successfully impersonating a man in order to play the lead in Will's latest production! Make sure your Hoopla app is ready to go, pop some popcorn, grab a beverage and get comfortable. We'll be here on Facebook starting at 8:00 pm, offering a place to chat and comment as we watch a movie “together” through Hoopla. Your host this week will be Megan Mahoney, watch for her posts. Here is a link to Shakespeare in Love on Hoopla: https://www.hoopladigital.com/title/12202960 Please note that this film has been rated R by the MPAA. https://www.instagram.com/p/CBBj7wpJRd_/?igshid=1ds88vdv8cetc

Join us Friday, May 8 at 8 pm on Facebook for the second movie in our Friday Night Flicks series: Terms of Endearment! Friday Night Flicks is a Facebook Event for MCPL patrons to stream and enjoy a movie “together”, accompanied by a live group chat on the event page. Join us in watching Terms of Endearment! Make sure your Kanopy app is ready to go, pop some popcorn, grab a beverage and get comfortable. "This Oscar-winner dazzled critics and audiences alike with its believable, insightful story of a mother and daughter, unforgettably played by Shirley MacLaine and Debra Winger. From grand slapstick to deepest sentiment, director James L. Brooks masterfully paints scenes from their evolving 30-year relationship. Jack Nicholson turns in a great comic performance as MacLaine's neighbor, a boozy, womanizing former astronaut." Winner of five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and four Golden Globes. Winner of a BAFTA for Best Actress (Shirley MacLaine). https://www.instagram.com/p/B_n15PLjb6j/?igshid=12szwaa7gt53o

Only 11 hours remain until our first "Friday Night Flicks" event on Facebook! This week's Friday Night Flick will be Clue: "In this spoof of McCarthy-era paranoia and 1950s wholesomeness, the characters and plot are drawn from the popular Parker Brothers board game of the same name. On a dark and stormy night in 1954, six individuals with ties to Washington are assembled for a dinner party at the swanky mansion of one Mr. Boddy (Lee Ving). Boddy's butler, Wadsworth (Tim Curry), assigns each guest a colorful name: Mr. Green (Michael McKean), Col. Mustard (Martin Mull), Mrs. Peacock (Eileen Brennan), Professor Plum (Christopher Lloyd), Miss Scarlet (Lesley Ann Warren), and Mrs. White (Madeline Kahn). When Boddy turns up dead, however, the guests must try to figure out who killed him so they can protect their own reputations and keep the body count from growing." Make sure your Kanopy app is ready to go, pop some popcorn, grab a beverage and get comfortable. We'll be here on Facebook starting at 8:00 pm, offering a place to chat and comment as we watch a movie “together”. Your host this week will be Katherine McManus, watch for her posts. #clue #kanopy #mymarionwv https://www.instagram.com/p/B_XOOVmgU-5/?igshid=x678n6umhru0

Behind the Scenes: Weekly staff meetings! Since the number of staff members who can be in our buildings at one time has been limited, we use two staff meetings a week to catch up! What do we talk about? The projects that each of us are working on (more on that soon!), patron questions and concerns, status reports about the White Hall Express, building and vehicle maintenance, and basically anything else you can think of. There have been a lot of guest appearances by cute cats, kids, and one sneaky spouse! 😹 Pictured here is our full time staff at Tuesday's Zoom meeting. This meeting and picture in particular are bittersweet because it was the last Tuesday meeting with Marion County Public Library System Director Erika Connelly (upper left corner). Erika has served as the director of MCPLS for 16 years, but will soon begin her new position as the director of the Kanawha County Public Library System in Charleston! Please join us in wishing her well! 💕 Have any questions about what we're working on? Leave a comment or shoot us a private message! https://www.instagram.com/p/B_DlmLwpZ4J/?igshid=1htz1wfprewp1

Behind the Scenes: recently returned library materials, hanging out in the quarantine zone! ----- We recently got a great question from a patron, and wanted to share the answer with all of you! They asked whether the items coming back to the library (and going into the White Hall Express) were being disinfected. The short answer is yes! Long answer: We began disinfecting items in mid-March, cleaning them as they returned the building (as well as cleaning a lot of frequently touched items, such as DVDs and titles in the children's room). We also quarantine the items that are returned in our book drop, following the CDC guidelines and American Library Association suggestions. We still advise using proper sanitizing protocols when checking items out (as you should any time you leave your home), but are doing our best to protect patrons and staff alike. Have a question about what we're doing behind the scenes? Let us know! We'd be happy to answer to the best of our abilities. #togetherapart https://www.instagram.com/p/B-7lcdsArGk/?igshid=1r2c5b4n1sru5
