My god do yall understand how storytelling works? Mike's confession NEEDED to come at a crucial point because it's part of the f*cking story. It's why I was able to so easily predict when it would come - because it's a plot point. It's not supposed to be realistic. It's a STORY.

B*lers are really bitching that Will was used to make Mileven happen like mileven hasn't been canon for 6 years? I...
Look am I thrilled with how Will's arc went this season? No not really. But as a queer human, and a historian of sexuality, Will's actions are remarkably realistic for a gay teen in the 80s. Plus it's not an unusual way for ANY teen to act let alone one who has as much trauma as Will.

My god, the Mileven in volume 2 was so satisfying. But I’ve read a lot of criticism that Mike’s character arc has been reduced to El’s love interest/emotional support human. I think it’s true that he’s less instrumental to the plot than in S1 and S2; and I hoped Will’s “heart of the party” speech hinted at a more active role this season, but it seemed fairly constrained (partly because they needed him to work through this emotional stumbling block with El).
So what thoughts do you have for Mike’s role in S5? I know we’re still processing the latest series, so perhaps it’s too early to ask, but I think we’re going to end up with the “core group “ working together again in S5, echoing S1, and thus I’m definitely expecting Mike to step up as Paladin and group leader.
I think s5 is going back to s1 dynamics with the addition of Will being key. I think it's going to be about protecting El AND Will with Mike taking the lead in both.
Mike and El are the two leads and continue to be the two leads but I also think they need to give Will a major arc. I think s5 will reflect that but as for how it breaks down? I'm really not sure. I think I need to rewatch to get a better idea.

Gee. It's like it was predictable or something.
Idk who needs to hear this but major relationships in stories aren't there because they're realistic or whatever the fuck antis are bitching about. They're there because they're relevant to the plot.
Mileven is CORE to the entire story of stranger things.
El sacrificed herself to save Mike in season 1.
El fought to get back to Mike in season 2.
Season 3 was a mess but Mike still protected El and she did the same in turn. We had Mike explicitly being the one to protect her BECAUSE OF his love for her.
In season 4, she's regaining her powers in large part because of Mike (who doesn't love her because of her powers but because SHE believes that, it is)
She will defeat Vecna based on her overwhelming love for Mike who is going to give a long sappy ass monologue about how much he loves her at a key point. Does she love her friends and adopted family? Of course she does. But it's the all consuming soulmate love that will power her.
There is absolutely zero narrative reason for Mike to return Will's feelings. In real life would Mike like will? Maybe. Who tf knows. But for the purposes of the show, mileven is canon and will be canon and endgame.
Relationships between main characters are there for a reason. It has nothing to do with what would happen in real life.

ST volume 2 death predictions
Stranger Things isn’t killing off Mike or El.
I’m 98% confident they’re not killing off any of the core 6 kids.
Could they die in season 5? Yes. Will they die in season 4? No.
First off, El and Mike are the main characters. Without either of them, season 5 just wouldn’t happen. There’s no story without them. (El is the main with her powers and Mike is El’s motivation for damn near everything.)
Second, I don’t see any of the other kids dying either mostly because they’re so central to the show. Not just the characters but the actors too. I think not having them for the S5 press tour would be a huge loss that they’re just not going to do.
I do however think that at least one of the core 6 kids is going to be in some kind of incapacitated state. Whether that be a coma, locked in the upside down, taken away, etc.
Everyone else? Fair game for death.
Predictions:
Pretty sure: Murray, Enzo, Brenner, Owens
Maybe: Steve, Eddie, Jonathan
Probably not: Hopper, Joyce, Nancy, Erica, Argyle, Robin

Millie Bobby Brown has said that she thinks El would want to get married and have kids one day. Like that is what she thinks her life goals would be. Considering that she was raised without a family in a lab, I think she’s probably right.
I’ve also seen more than one person lately decide that they’re going to police what other people (women) want to do with their lives. Let me not mince words here: it is racist, sexist, and ableist to decide the ideal life course for anyone, but especially women.
Women have traditionally not been able to set their own life courses. Men and outside forces have decided her life for her. For some reason, people today think that means that they were always forced to stay at home. This is wrong. It was almost solely well-off white women who were forced to be at home. Women of color and poor women were forced to go work in the same way that privileged white women were forced to stay home. They too were not given a choice. Then you had women who were never given the chance to get married or have children because they were institutionalized or sterilized.
Feminism is about ensuring that everyone has the choice to set his/her/their own life course without regards to what their partners, the state, or life circumstances want.
I’m married and have a kid but I’m also a full time worker because I could never be a stay at home parent. Instead, my (male) partner is the stay at home. I have a PhD and a career I love because that is the path I chose. However, I fight like hell to make sure that if someone wants to stay home, he/she/they have the resources and support to do so. Because that’s what feminism is. It’s about recognizing that people have the ability to make their own decisions about what’s best for them.
So *fuck you* if you think that feminism means that there is only one right path. Black women, Brown women, poor women, and disabled women fought for a century to have the ability to stay home if they wanted and it’s not up to YOU to make the decision for them that they need to be in the work force.
El has saved the world several times over. If she wants a husband, kids, and quiet life caring for them then she damn well deserves that.

After surviving reddit during the time of the Star Wars sequels, I thought I'd never see more ridiculous fan theories. (Look, I'm still not over the fact that 1/3 of the star wars reddit bros were CONVINCED that Rey was a clone from Luke's severed hand that was just chilling in space)
But after spending some time on the Stranger Things subs, I'm shooketh. But I also now understand where these absolutely bizarre tumblr theories are coming from.
It's honestly some high quality entertainment over there. Highly recommend.

Ok I've now seen this bizarre theory more than once but to clear up any speculation: 001 is NOT El's dad.
El's dad is Andrew Rich, Terry Ives' boyfriend who died in Vietnam. This is canon.

Mike lost track of time reading a letter from El and was almost late to school because he *checks notes* fell out of love with her a while ago?
Makes sense. Checks out.

How funny would it be if while explaining all the upside down shit to Eddie they all just,, didn't mention that the girl with superpowers just so happens to be the girl Mike's been long distance dating for a year
Like the Hawkins and California squads finally meet up and everyone introduces El as Mike's girlfriend and then she blows some shit up with her mind and Eddie is just sitting there like oh my god what the fuck

"It's stupid that the Duffers never kill off any of the main characters. Also there's been too many fake-outs and it makes the stakes feel super low." Okay, but hear me out: I don't care. These characters can keep miraculously surviving season after season, Hopper can come back from the dead as many time as he wants, and the Duffers can continue to introduce new characters every season just so they'll have someone to kill off, and it is perfectly fine by me. I will pretend to be shocked by the formula every time if it means I don't have to watch any of my favs die.

Volume 2 predictions
-Mike clutch tells El he loves her and it's what lets her win against Vecna
-Eddie survives but goes into battle while forcing Dustin to stay back and be safe
-Vecna IS defeated this season
-El gets trapped in the upside down or she's presumed dead
-Season 5 is going to be about saving El and running from the government (they still think she's a weapon and a threat)
-I'm honestly not sure if one of the mains are going to die. I think it might be like Jonathan if anyone but I think the teasing has been mostly hype or a red herring
-Will comes out to Jonathan and is accepted
-Everyone's moving back to Hawkins

No one:
Absolutely no one:
My brain: ok but a canon divergence where Mike has to watch El repeatedly die to Vecna while he's stuck in a time loop until he figures out how to help her win --

For those doubting mileven, I'm begging you to go rewatch the first season or 2. Not because they were peak mileven but because they show how much the Duffers foreshadow EVERYTHING.
They do plot twists but not really? Like everything is pretty laid out and laid on THICK.
What we know this season is that El has learned that LOVE is a stronger emotion than hate or anger. Vecna pulls from negative emotions, El pulled from the love of a mother she never knew.
Vecna is stronger now so El's love will have to be too.
Who does El love? Mike, who she incorrectly thinks doesn't love her back. His declaration of love will be what pushes her in the final battle (whether that's this season or next though I'd bet money it's this season)
So deep breaths. Everything's fine.
