Old writings from 1995

I was cruising through some old files and found this old story from 1995, definitely a school project.  That sounds about right for 13-year-old me.  Note the ½, or Alt+0189, which was added on purpose to show my mad character awareness skillz (I still remember and use that code to this day).

The Horrendous Hunting Horror On the 13th of September some wood cutters, Joe Macky, Mike Rotch, and three of their friends went to get some firewood since it was nearing winter. They grabbed their trusty chainsaws and went into the forest. Meanwhile, Jed Blood was just picking up his tom-boy daughter, Lucy, from school. He was going to take her on her first hunting trip, and she couldn’t wait. They went home, grabbed their double-barreled shotguns, and set off to the forest. Many hours passed and they didn’t get anything except some tree bark. It was starting to get dark, so they decided to give up and go home. But the car wasn’t where they thought. They were lost. The search for it started, but instead of finding their car, they found the woodcutters. A conversation started, and apparently the same thing happened to the wood-cutters that happened to the Bloods. They decided to split into two groups to try to find anyone’s car. The woodcutters went one way, while the Bloods went another way, both to meet at a specific spot in 1½ hours. During their twilight search for a car, the woodcutters found some funky-looking mushrooms. Since they were hungry, they ate them. They started to feel weird and hate each other. During this time the Bloods were on their search, but then they heard some distant blood-curdling screams. Lucy suggested that it was probably just some animal that spooked a woodcutter. Jed looked at his watch, and said that is was time to go back. When they got to the meeting spot, they saw only two woodcutters there. "What happened to the other three?" inquired Jed. "THE SAME THING THAT’LL HAPPEN TO YOU!!" Joe screamed. At that moment, he started up his chainsaw and brutally disemboweled Jed. Lucy was terrified but the first thing she thought of doing was to grab her dad’s shotgun. Then she ran off like the dickens. Lucy ran for what seemed like hours, but it was only a couple of minutes, when Joe popped up in front of her, his blood-stained chainsaw roaring like a deadly weed wacker. Scared out of her wits, she dealt a mighty blow to his jaw with the butt of the gun. He was on the ground, unconscious. Knowing that Mike Rotch was still around somewhere, she loaded her shotgun. She started running again, but not from Mike’s chainsaw but FOR it! She saw him, aimed, and shouted, "Die you son-of-a-dog!" He heard this and turned around, just as she shot for him. Mike ducked and it missed! Now he was running at her, eyes glowing red. She knew she had to run, but was paralyzed with fear. As he came nearer, she quickly regained her senses and re-loaded the gun. He was right behind her, but she took a chance. She didn’t have time to turn around, so she did a back kick and got Mike’s crotch. He howled with pain, she turned around, and shot him in the chest. The killer was dead. The Moral of the Story: Never eat mushrooms that aren’t from the store! ©Copyright 1995 Michael Karikas and Lyle Witherite
