I would say I can't imagine the racism that mark has been subjected to from both the white and Asian communities, except I can.

I'm taiwanese-scottish and got "ching chong china"'d to my face as early as 9 years old.

my family members would ask if I was mentally disabled because I wasn't as taiwanese fluent as them.

my medical problems were often blamed on "trash genes" from both respective ethnicities.

people would ask if it was hard being poor, after finding out I'm a pacific islander. I spent a lot of high school being asked cultural questions by otakus who think Asia is basically just a country.

With that story of the person buying a pregnancy test being sent formula samples in the mail getting traction recently, it needs to be pointed out that this is not new.

With my most recent pregnancy in 2020, I started receiving formula samples in the mail from Similac and Enfamil in my first trimester. My email was quickly passed between pregnancy and baby specific companies and my inbox became flooded with emails advertising countless products and services.

I was harassed by 2 cord blood storage companies after briefly browsing one of their websites. After my baby was diagnosed as terminal, I had a phone conversation with a rep who tried to convince me multiple times to store her cord blood for my future babies.

After Sam was born/died, within a week of my delivery I received a congratulations letter and offer from Gerber Life Insurance in the mail, also without my consent. I continued receiving formula coupons despite reporting her death to the companies multiple times, and even now I receive toddler formula coupons from time to time.

Amazon has tracked my purchases to the point that they know I (should) have a 19 month old and will advertise me toddler and baby things for girls, despite never having linked an AGAB to my Amazon account.

This level of capitalistic surveillance of pregnancy in the US specifically is not new and with the repeal of Roe v. Wade it should terrify you.

the simplest version of that answer is- yes, you're right!

the cells containing the tattoo ink DO periodically die and get replaced by new cells, but the reason this doesn't destroy your precious skin art is this- those cells are actually carefully passing the ink particles along to their successors when they kick it, so each new generation of cells picks up the same exact ink particles from their elders in a cycle of inheritance that only ends when you die!

and the long version is, as soon as the tattoo gun fills your arm with ink, your immune system is on top of it; it sends a battalion of white blood cells called macrophages to the area, and they all gobble down the ink in an attempt to break it down and protect you! but. the ink particles are very large, and cannot be broken down by the macrophages, so once an ink particle is engulfed the macrophage that grabbed it is literally just stuck wherever it currently is in your skin and can't go anywhere or do anything else.

this is fine, the cell still gets nutrients and will live a normal macrophage lifespan, it just can't wander off and ruin your ink. but eventually, your trapped ink macrophages WILL die, and when they do they just kind of vomit their captured ink everywhere! whiiiich triggers your body's Intruder Alert defenses and sends a new set of macrophages to the area, who immediately just hork down the SAME DAMN INK PARTICLES and get stuck again. and on and on it goes, ad infinitum!
