Honestly the amount of people in shipwrecks who die because of malfunctions while letting down the lifeboats make me think that it's safer to just jump in, even if it means getting knocked out in impact with the water

i'm so proud of myself bc someone in a class yesterday claimed that the word dämlich changed meaning and used to mean something like damenhaft originally — and i didn't correct them!! bc as we all know people ~in the past~ HATED women so of course they changed it to meaning stupid 😤😤 — which of course is untrue both generally and especially in this case... and it's not like i have to be right about everything all the time but i hate misinformation especially when it assumes that everything in the past has always been done with malicious intent, so i have to let at least you know that:

a) dämlich has the same origin as dumm, deriving from something meaning foggy-brained and very originally deriving from meaning dark (hence also Dämmerung)

b) Dame of course derived from lat. domina, lit. meaning Herrin

Me now: 200 years ago, when the men on a drowning ship realized that they weren't enough life-boats to save even half of them and they realized that they would die, they decided that their last act on this world would be to rape the women. Humanity is broken.

#they also started to physically fight the men who tried to get women and kids onto life boats #apparently only two crew-men (plus the captain and a woman who didn't work on the ship but still tried to save it) stayed on their post and #tried to save the ship and the people on it #not a single woman or child survived #and many of the meutering men later claimed that the captain was responsible for the violence #the captain managed to survive even though he never got on a live boat but instead floated on a turbine-paddle with twi others for several #days #one of the two tried to commit suicide several times because he didn't want to starve to death #but the captain and other person stopped him #also the ship sunk because it collided with another in the fog #but the other one managed to make it back to shore but THOUGHT that the other ship was fine and had simply left them behind to die #this was so extremely sad to watch #anyways here are the trigger warnings: #tw rape #rape #tw suicide #suicide attempt #ship wreck #death #drowning #oh! i just remembered that i didn't mention that they probably didn't succeed in raping them because the captain and their families protecte #them but it wasn't made completely clear in the documentary i watched

I’ll never understand why anthropomorphic animal cartoons like Robin Hood and Zootopia will go to the trouble of creating character designs that are meant to be understood as “attractive” or even “sexy” to the human audience but explicitly avoid showing interspecies romances between anthropomorphic animals.
