could i have a gif hunt of joe thomas, please, sweetheart?
Absolutely! I love him the Inbetweeners and Fresh Meat! Just a quick warning, though - there don't seem to be too many GIFs of him floating around, so I can't promise that this hunt will be all too comprehensive. That being said, I'll do my best to make it as long as I can, for you!

you seem like a really big sweetie! loads of rph blogs are just really rude and bitchy, but i love how polite you're being to everybody! :) xo
Well, excuse me a moment while I have a minor freakout because unexpected compliments both make me and break me! Whoever you are, 'nonnie, this is the sweetest thing! I wouldn't say different approaches to rph are bad, though, because everybody has a different style and some people and some are blunter than others (and also 99% of people are far more experienced than me, seeing as I only started posting yesterday!). That being said, this is very sweet of you to say, and I really, really appreciate it!
Now, let's see if I can calm down my frankly shameful blushing and grinning and get back to my to-do list, shall we?

Hi there! The Carlton House is a recently revamped OC roleplay that is set in a condominium complex that caters to adult tenants (25 years +)! We are opening tonight and for this weekend only we're accepting apps with NO PARA SAMPLE! Could we possibly have a shoutout? Please and thank you!
Sure, I'd be happy to! Everybody, this is a brand new roleplay so if you love being in the first bunch of roleplayers (maybe it's weird, but I know I do!), then you should totally apply now! It's promoting diversity which I always adore, and is also for mature face claims, which gives you a bit more freedom and a chance to get out some of the gorgeous 25+ fcs you never get to use (which again, I really enjoy, although maybe that's just me, too!). Good luck with your roleplay, guys!

Hey, could we get a full review, please?
Absolutely, it'd be my pleasure! So at first glance I can see that this roleplay is based around a dating app - and, what with be being utter shipping trash, I'm hoping me and this rp are gonna get on well! Under the cut I'm gonna dig a little deeper, though!
Tumblr media
Url & Icon 8/10
I don't have much to say about the URL really, but that's a good thing - it's not hard to remember, it's not too long, and it doesn't have any dashes in! I always have a little trouble with URLs where one word ends with the same letter the next begins with, as the t from night and the t from town tend to blend together, but I'm not gonna mark you down for that because that's probably just one of my weird brain quirks.
The icon is also inoffensive, if a little... bland, perhaps? I wouldn't really remember it too vividly to associate it with the roleplay, and I'm personally not a fan of the colours, although I'm a bit of a boring pastel & monochrome lover. Overall there's not much to criticise, so a hearty eight out of ten suits this section.
Theme 7/10
I'm not a big fan of the aesthetics of the theme or the colour scheme, as I'm a bit of a lover of simplicity and minimalism - I think it might look better with a plain background, and if the links were changed from blue to fit in with the other colours a little more. That being said, the theme is very easy to navigate, has clear timestamps and clearly readable text, which is always a pro. Because of this, I'm gonna settle for a steady seven!
Bios & Characters /10
This is an OC roleplay, so I can't really comment on this!
Plot 8/10
This plot looks like really good fun, and while I've seen some plots with similarities, I've never seen one quite like it! The plot is well laid-out so it's easy to follow and read, and it's obvious that a lot of care has been put into explaining it all so that people who join know exactly what they're doing! I do have a few questions about how this roleplay will change and develop as it seems like it would definitely be more character driven, but that's not to say that character driven rps don't work! In fact, I'm in one that's been going on for three years and counting, and I hope that you guys have the same success! All in all, I'm gonna give you an eight in this section!
Diversity 10/10
Now, I know there are no characters other than mod characters so I can't really comment on POC and body diversity - but can I just say that I adore the fact that you have a non-binary option? That's instantly bought you a spot of one of the favourite roleplays I've seen, and when I get around to making a recs page, you'll be on it! You've also mentioned that the dates can be platonic, sexual or romantic, thus dispelling any worries I had about asexual or aromantic erasure - honestly, you seem to have loads of things covered, and although I have no idea how diverse your FCs will turn out to be, I'm so pleasantly surprised that I'm giving you full marks!
Overall average 8/10
Would I apply?
At first glance I would have thought that maybe I wouldn't, just because I'm a sucker for judging things on aesthetic (although that's rich coming from me: the person whose wip of a blog currently looks like it was made by a ten year old), but it was definitely a lesson not to judge a book by its cover! A lot of thought seems to have been put into this roleplay, both in terms of the organisation and in terms of making sure everybody's represented! If my schedule lets up a little I'm honestly considering applying, and I really think others should do the same!
Thanks very much for requesting this, and please feel free to message me if you think anything I’ve said is unreasonable, or if you want help with anything else! Good luck with your roleplay! ~ Ettie. x

Hi, love! could we please receive a shoutout? We are a brand new supernatural roleplay based in the fictional town of River Falls. What has been a sanctuary for supernatural creatures during the past few years has now become the battle ground for a war against those who want to harm humans and those who want to live peacefully. Thank you in advance!
Absolutely! This roleplay looks really awesome, I adore roleplays that are quite plot driven (although I do love character driven roleplays, too - I'm quite easily pleased!), and this one looks like it's gonna develop to be really interesting! If you're a fan of supernatural roleplays, I'd definitely recommend you check these guys out!

USEFUL TIPS & GUIDES FOR WRITERS, a masterlist by cyrusassists.
It came to my attention that people really like masterlists around this community, so I threw another one together. It’s not specifically for role-playing, as most of mine are, but everything I linked below was designed to help you with your writing, so you should probably check them out anyway.

Mallory Burton. Everybody knows her and everyone has something to say about her. However, only thirteen students at Ohio University chose to do something about her. Now, she’ll get her revenge. The Mallory Effect is a 6x6 original character roleplay looking for applicants. Would you mind giving us a shout out, please? Thanks in advance.
It'd be my absolute pleasure! This a college roleplay but, from the looks of things, it's definitely not just your run-of-the-mill college roleplay! If you love smaller groups and mystery roleplays as much as I do you should definitely check this out, 'cause it looks really fun!

Hi there Ettie, I was hoping you might be able to give us a review? Thanks so much!
It’s my pleasure! Well, I absolutely love mythology although I’ve never thought to join a roleplay about it, so first impressions leave me pretty excited! Let’s look at what I think in more detail, though!
Tumblr media
Url & Icon 7/10
I actually really like the URL because it’s intriguing, easy to remember and has no dashes. That being said, it is a little long - but I don’t think that’s too major a problem. The icon is fine and quite aesthetically pleasing in my opinion, but it doesn’t seem the right size and so has two white bars on either side which I don’t really like… I’m not sure whether it was intentional or not. Overall I don’t have too many complaints, but also no overwhelming praise, so I’m giving it a steady seven out of ten!
Theme & Graphics 6/10
I have to say, I’m a bit of a sucker for simplicity. This may just be down to personal taste but I feel like there’s a little too much going on in the theme both in terms of colours and in images. It’s something that I’ve found with most roleplays, though - it might be boring, but I’d take a clean theme with a simple sidebar graphic and good navigation any day! That being said, the links are clear, and there’s obviously been a lot of time taken over the graphics (though, again, I’d much prefer them to be a simple graphic with a clear sans serif font, plain colour scheme and picture), so I’m going to have to go with a six out of ten!
Bios & Characters 8/10
Bios, bios, bios! I love the fact that you have a wide range of personality types in your bios rather than refreshing the same type of character over and over! You’ve got just enough detail in each one to tell the player about the character without leaving them no room for negotiation, and the layout is clear! However, I did spot a few spelling and grammar errors, so you may want to proof read them a little more. I’m gonna give this an eight out of ten!
Plot 9/10
Now, this could well be because, as I said, I’ve never entered the mythology roleplaying side (if there is one) of tumblr before - but I can safely say I’ve never seen a plot like this. The first sentence draws you in and makes you want to read on, the extended plot is detailed, and it’s clear how the roleplay is going to continue from where it is. I’m going to give the plot a good nine out of ten, because, in my opinion, it’s both original and plausible for a successful rp!
Diversity 6.5/10
The FCs are generally well-used, but there are some more underused ones in there too, which is my bread and butter! You do have a few POC, which is fantastic, seeing as I’m so used to all white roleplays with perhaps the token POC. This might just be me being my own pushy self, though, but I’d quite like to see more! Perhaps a South Asian FC, as they seem to be incredibly rare in roleplays. I’d also like to see some canonically gay, transgender or nonbinary characters, although I do understand that with this being a mythology roleplay it might not seem explicitly relevant - but what could be cooler than a genderqueer god? However, this is, once again, something that is an issue all over the community and not just in this roleplay, so I’m going to give a solid six point five out of ten!
Overall average 7/10
Would I apply?
Although it may not entirely be my cup of tea, I can tell that there’s been a lot of work put into this roleplay, and it’s certainly got an engaging and original plot! I myself might not personally be applying, but I certainly recommend it to any Greek Mythology fans out there - with a few adjustments here and there, I can see this being a pretty successful roleplay!
Thanks very much for requesting this, and please feel free to message me if you think anything I’ve said is unreasonable, or if you want help with anything else! (also i love the fact that you used my name i don’t know why but that always feels really nice!) Good luck with your roleplay! ~ Ettie. x

Eddie's guide on - How to flesh out a prewritten character.
You’ve found the perfect roleplay, full of well-written bios and wonderful characters – in fact, one character in particular has caught your eye. The only problem is, when it comes to proving to the admins that you can give said character the panache they desire, you’re drawing a complete blank! Well, don’t worry! I’m here to help you write the perfect app that'll knock those admins' collective socks off  – or, at least, to give some tips that never fail to help me in a similar situation!
Step one - Read and reread the biography.
I must confess, I have a dreadful habit of skimreading. My eyes flash over a page, pick up the important details and then move on. Do not do this when trying to write about a prewritten character! The first step to being able to flesh out the character is to know the canon characteristics of the character that you can build off. Read, read, and read again! (And, to my fellow skimreaders, I've found that reading aloud helps, as there's no way of dodging great walls of text when you have to focus on each word!)
Step two - Find key points.
Highlight or italicize or bold the details about the character that really tell you about them, be it an important event from their backstory or a note about their personality. This is an especially useful step if the biography is long, as it gives you quick and easy reference points when writing without you having to search through the whole bio every time you want to check up on something.
Step three - Random headcanon time!
This is definitely my favourite step of all! Drawing inspiration from absolutely anything around you or just from your head, write a list of random headcanons that come to mind when you think about your character. It could be something small like their favourite type of tea, or something large about their relationship with their family. These do not need to be refined, important, or even make too much sense - they're just a great way of getting in the mood and getting in character! I tend to write these down until I have a list of about thirty (it sounds excessive, but trust me, most of these are utterly banal things like their first pet, etc.)
Step four - Refine these headcanons!
Most applications will have a section where the admins want to see headcanons about your chosen character, but you can't just give them a list of short sentences about your character's favourite candy, can you? Well, now it's time to make use of that excessively long list of headcanons and pick the gold from the bronze! Think about which work best with the backstory and time period, which are most creative and which can be expanded upon. Even after you've picked your most important and expanded on them, though, don't throw away the rest of your headcanons! I've never heard of an admin complaining that too much thought has been put into their character, so add all the ones that make sense along with your refined ones. It'll be a great way of showing your passion!
Step five - More development!
This is a little bit of a vague step, but I find it a really useful one. Basically, I find any way possible to come up with more things about my character. Here are some things I find useful:
Fill out online quizzes! Try MBTI personality types, character alignment or even just random personality quizzes you might have taken for fun in the past! Even if the answers are something like what sort of cookie your character is, answering the questions along the way gets you to think about lots of different angles for them.
Fill out character development skeletons! There are millions of them floating around the internet and while some of them can get a bit boring with hundreds of questions, I've found many of them helpful when looking at things such as short term goals, long term goals, and backstory details.
Pretend your character is a Sim! This might be silly, but imagine both Sims 2 and 3 character creation for your Sim (Sims 4, I'm afraid, is a bit of a mystery for me!). What number would you give them on the scale from sloppy to need, from shy to outgoing? What traits would you give them? What would their aspirations be? Their life wants?
Step six - Para sample.
There's bound to be a detail either from the backstory or from the headcanons that you can write about, although there are some things that are best avoided: detailed descriptions of abuse or attacks (unless you really know what you are doing these can come across as clumsy, offensive or even quite disturbing to the admins), dream sequences (overused), or events too far in the past (the admins want to know how you'll play the character as they are now, not when they were ten years old). Speaking as a former admin, though, it's not the writing style that I worry too much about, providing spelling and grammar are accurate - it's the characterization. Put as much of the stuff you discovered about your character in there as you can, whether it's through your language choices or through the setting you've chosen. Remember, if you get too stuck for the sample, most admins will give prompts for specific characters, so feel free to ask! It doesn't make you a worse roleplayer!
That's about it for this guide, but remember, if you need help on playing certain characters or characteristics, there are always specific guides floating around - and if you really need one that you can't find anywhere, feel free to drop me a line! I love characterization and research, so it'd be no bother at all. And, after all, I'm here to help!
