Parody no Escaflowne

A fun site made by Chaos-chan and Kourin on Geocities back in the day. It had fanfiction, fan art, fan translations of the manga, and even a drinking game! I definitely stumbled across this during the Anipike days. The chibi illustrations are probably from doujinshi or fan art, not sure. They're very cute though!

you know

one of my favorite things about van and hitomi is

like

first off, van doesn't consider himself a romantic. not for a second. he doesn't even consciously think about that shit. what matters to him is duty and revenge and family and his country, etc.

and hitomi lives in a reverie. she sees allen, as amano, as this high school crush who is less a person and moreso this idyllic (unrealistic) romantic partner that, let's be real, we all had as teenagers

and, interjection: what got me thinking about this was episode 7 where hitomi gets kidnapped by the strange lizard men, and hitomi is absolutely convinced that allen is the one who is rescuing her, until she sees van's smiling face, and she's like "wait...van is the one who rescued me?"

and meanwhile van doesn't make a scene of it. he's not doing this to "win the heart of the one he loves" because this idiot has no idea what he wants or what Feelings are. he is just instinctively pulled toward protecting her

and Hitomi is equally clueless. Like she can't see the difference between her rose-colored reverie and the reality of her own feelings and the reality of what's in front of her

and it's worth mentioning how many times Hitomi also protects Van. really important to me that we acknowledge the mutual care and protection and sacrifice. this ain't no sexist bullshit. they both save each other countless times

it's just so funny to me that A) van thinks he wants/has nothing to do with love or romance, a rough-around-the-edges, responsibility-burdened young king, and B) hitomi is convinced she is in love with allen, who is really just the concept of love to her, and that's all she amounts to....

and it turns out van is stronger than he imagined. and hitomi is stronger than she imagined. and they both need each other. and love each other.

anyway the actual point of fandom is to inspire each other. reading each other's fics and admiring each other's art and saying wow i love this and i feel something and i want to invoke this in other people, i want to write a sentence that feels like a meteor shower, i want to paint a kiss with such tenderness it makes you ache, i want to create something that someone else somewhere will see it and think oh, i need to do that too, right now. i am embracing being a corny cunt on main to say inspiring each other is one of the things humanity is best at and one of the things fandom is built for and i think that's beautiful

Anyone remembers when I did this the last time? If you don't, here are reminders number one and number two. This time it's Folken, Merle, and my Cyro. Might be the final one, I will just post the sketches one by one or use them for the chapters I guess.

The first of these (I don't know what to call them) was done for the fic's second bday, the second one around the third. And now it's been... six years, exactly few days ago. Wow. Also, while the first two are sort of love triangles, this one does not contain any pairings (just to be clear). The sketches are rougher compared to the previous ones, well, everything seems to be nowadays. You can practically see the difference here between the OC's face (that's of an earlier date) and the other two (that I finalized only recently). I could try harder and give it some more time but I'm just happy and thankful to be drawing again at all. I will need to get a practiced hand again to get a little bit smoother and I would like to finally start something new. As you know, I like these sort of rough sketches best though tbh I'm dying to color something as well.

P.S. Please bear with me with the next chapter a little longer, it is coming as well.
