In the Hunter Sorcerer AU, Jinchul would be sent to South Korea before the events of JJK 0.
I'd have it after third failed Jeju Raid. Jinchul Awakened as a Sorcerer which helped reduce casualties. However, Eunseok still died because Jinchul is too far away to provide aid... which does great wonders to Jinchul's mentality.
Gunhee allowed Jinchul be sent away to Japan for three reasons:
Jinchul can learn more about his new powers and utilize better to help KHSA.
Politics. Dreaded and exhausting politics.
Give Jinchul a break away from the aftermath of Jeju Raid. ---> Jinchul blames himself for the deaths. One of the rare times he becomes infuriatingly stupid because how can he know he would be Twice Awakened? He did not let people on purpose. ----> Sadly, people want to scapegoat and Jinchul is a very convenient one. Removing him physically from S. Korea (and the media spotlight) should hammer in the fact that he HAS NOT kept his Sorcerer status for shits and giggles. Jinchul is a 100% newbie Sorcerer and needs training. He cannot and should not be blamed for the deaths in the Third Jeju Raid.
So, Gojo would have been training Jinchul for a several months already before Yuta came into picture. At that point, Jinchul is a sort of instructor in Jujutsu Tech for melee and hand-to-hand combat.
Jinchul would have several involvements in the JJK 0 plot:
Training Maki enough to help her last until Toge and Panda arrive for 3 versus 1 against Geto.
Understanding survivor's guilt, grief, and Curses alongside Yuta.
Providing Gojo a much needed punch on the face for the mishandling of Geto's case. At the same time tho, he allows Gojo catharsis for the pain and grief he has been holding in for almost a decade after losing his "one and only".
He gets assigned to help out in Kyoto. Thus, meeting Mechamaru and providing him a better option in achieving a new body.
I would like to have some sort of interaction between Jinchul and Geto (or at least some of his cult). However, I'm not yet sure how it would go.
One thing is for sure tho, Jinchul's presence does not really change much of the events except prepare students more for the fight and provide a unique type of support to those who cannot exactly receive traditional help (Gojo's poor social EQ and Mechamaru's circumstance).
Anyway, after JJK 0, Jinchul will still hang around for a while more before going back to Korea. He is no longer Chief of the Monitoring Division. He would instead be the Chief of the Sorcerer Division by virtue his status Special Grade and an experienced Hunter.
He still has a lot on his plate tho because he retains his status as Korea's liaison/ambassador with Japan's jujutsu society. Gojo's relationship with Jinchul further complicates things too. ---> The Elders are not amused that Gojo acknowledges a foreigner as his older brother (Hush. Jinchul does not know yet that Satoru adopted him into the Gojo clan. He is still trying to figure out how to break that tidbit of news to the guy). However, they cannot deny that Jinchul can be useful to them. They just have to figure out how to force the man under their thumb (They won't because Satoru pre-emptively adopted him).
Then, the Double Dungeon Incident happened. Jinchul's stress level is about go through the roof because of Jinwoo. ----> Gojo gets the novel experience of being the listener and reassurance-provider to a ranting Jinchul. He tries his best and asks for advice on how to be a good caring little brother much to the bewilderment of everyone. But he tries. He even offered to send people to the Infinite Void multiple times! --------> While people are confused with Gojo's change of behavior, they like it. Jinchul's a good influence. Gojo still has his antics but he now has better social awareness to communicate more (aka checking that people do understand his true meaning). His relationships are still rough but they're getting better slowly but surely.

Still at it!
HUNTER SORCERER AU: JINCHUL INNATE CT
Jinchul's CT is Energy Transfiguration. Basically, he can transform anything that uses energy into its "optimum state".
Energy in here can mean anything: mana, cursed energy, potential energy, kinetic energy, etc. To put it simply, everything is fair game for Jinchul to transfigure.
"Optimum State" here means to be "Anything Jinchul believes to be its perfect state/form." This is largely inspired by this badass scene below from the manhwa:
Tumblr media
Jinchul credited his intact arms after getting in between Yoonho and Dongsoo as them holding back their strength at the last second. His status as a top A Ranker likely meant he had enough endurance to tank the rest of the force that were not restrained by the two S Rankers. The electricity visual is probably for cool effect.
BUT!
I'd like to think it's because Jinchul has a unique Enhance skill. For a certain amount of time, he can select a skill to Enhance to Optimal Level. When it activates, it looks like electricity is running through his body.
So, let's say Jinchul's MAX Strength as an A Rank is 85. He cannot go higher than that no matter how much he trains. However, if he uses his Enhance skill, he could boost that Strength to Optimal Levels aka S Rank (90-100) or, if he does not mind dying, National Rank (100+).
In the scene above, he enhanced his Durability to tank the two brawling problem children. In the Double Dungeon, he probably used it to boost his Speed.
Tumblr media
Basically, I headcanon that Jinchul can briefly punch above his A Rank stats. The drawbacks are time limit and backlash. He can fight like an S Rank for a few precious seconds but he would be exhausted after. The longer he uses Enhance, the higher the chances he sends himself into a coma or worse. So, he uses it only for absolute emergencies. He never attempts to enhance himself higher than S Rank levels or longer than 4 minutes. He instinctively knows it'd kill him.
It's still a handy skill tho which I think would suit Jinchul's job as S Rank wrangler/babysitter.
*IN SHORT: Jinchul can "enhance" his body like Dongsuk but his version of that skill is more powerful and refined.
ANYWAY!
Going back to his CT, Jinchul can activate Energy Transfiguration by touching his target and willing it to change. It is easier said than done.
Jinchul, naturally, is touching Air for example. Air has energy. He can transfigure it but he has to want it first. Unless, Jinchul desires or wills it, the Air will just be Air.
The second hurdle in his technique is the "Optimum State". Jinchul not only needs to desire for change to happen, he needs to have a clear vision on how the end result should be - result being "the perfect version of this thing he is transfiguring."
Let's use the Air again as an example. Jinchul desires for it to change. If he has no Perfect Vision of its Optimum State, the Air will remain Air. However, if he wills for it to change into a barrier, the energy within the Air will transfigure it into an Invisible Barrier. If his Perfect Vision is an Invisible Barrier shaped like a sphere, it would become a Spherical Invisible Barrier. If he envisioned it to be a square, then it will become an Invisible Barrier Box.
In summary, Jinchul's CT is just my headcanon of his Enhance skill on steroids. However, it is tricky to use because it requires Touch, Will, and Vision for Jinchul to efficiently use it. If Jinchul doubts that something must or can be changed, his CT won't work. If he has no idea what the fuck the result of his Transfiguration will be, it also won't work.
The only limit to Jinchul's ability is his own mentality. He needs to be a greedy visionary. Satoru can help him there... after they finally figured out what the requirements to Jinchul's Energy Transfiguration are exactly. It takes them a bit of trial and error. However, thinking about the physics of his ability helps Jinchul with his Perfect Vision. So, Satoru gets the opportunity to show off his genius in science.
RANDOM THOUGHTS!
Does the level of energy affect Jinchul's ability?
No. Something just needs to have energy (even 0.000000001J) and it's good to go. That's why his CT is OP. Jinchul can change anything into whatever he wants. He literally can make something out of "nothing".
The problem tho is the psychological aspect of it. Jinchul is limiting himself by thinking logically all the time.
Let's say Jinchul has a glass of water. By all means, he only needs to touch the water inside, envision the life-size Eiffel Tower, and will it to transfigure. South Korea would have a perfect replica of the tower in Seoul instantly.
However, Jinchul cannot envision something like that. He's a logical guy. What will happen instead is he will touch the water (and gauge it), envision the Eiffel Tower (while recognizing the amount of water is small), and then transfigure it (as he keeps in mind that his water is only enough for one glass). At best, he'd produce a Eiffel Tower standing as tall at 12 in. At worst, he'd get a keychain out of it.
Can Jinchul upgrade another Hunter?
Yes. He can even induce an Awakening too. The problem, again, is that the process is entirely psychological. Jinchul needs to desire the change and have a Perfect Vision of the end result.
Let's say Jinah wants to become a Sorcerer. She must convince Jinchul to be 100% on board with the idea. She also has to persuade him to have a specific idea on what she would be as a Sorcerer too - stats, technique, and all.
In fact, Jinchul can also heal others. He may even be able to reverse Mahito's Soul Transfiguration. He just need to touch his target, absolutely desire to change it, and be super specific at imagining the results. Confidence plays a role too. He really needs to will the perfect result into existence.
It's just that... Jinchul is logical and as stubborn as the Earth. The guy is like a rocky mountain in his principles and beliefs but his CT demands extreme imagination and flexibility. Jinchul is capable of that tho. But he needs to be convinced first that the change must 100% happen which is the difficult part.
Another reason tho, tbh, for me to make this as Jinchul's CT is the opportunities to:
Save Kokichi. If Kokichi knew there's another person who can help him fix his body other than Mahito, he will never betray Jujutsu Tech. I want him to have a happy ending and I can do that in this AU thru Jinchul.
Explore a new Gojo Dynamic. -> Satoru taught his students but let's be honest, for technical aspects of the education, he passed Yuji to Nanami + Todo plus Yuta to Miguel. It's not a bad decision for his part and it's actually admirable. He knows his limits and acknowledges when to yield to someone else that is better than him at something. He is not going to sacrifice his student's potential for his ego. HOWEVER! He can't do that with Jinchul. Satoru really is the only guy around that can help Jinchul understand his CT and eventually master it. He really has to teach. -> Satoru does not have any "older brother" relationship with anyone. It would be a novel experience for him. -> Satoru being driven into insanity in frustration with Jinchul. He sees how powerful the man can be. He knows Jinchul can be as strong (or even stronger) than him. IF. JINCHUL. JUST. LEARNS. TO. BE. ILLOGICAL. Satoru: You can do it, Jinchul! You can do anything! Be like Alice! Believe in six impossible things before breakfast! Jinchul: I believe that I will get full eight hours of sleep, that I will get three full meals, that my subordinates will finish their paperwork on time, that the Chairman Go will tell the government to fuck off with their probational prisoners pet project, that the Hwang brothers regret betraying Korea, and that all S Ranks will behave and not cause me more grief! Satoru: ... Jinchul: What? Satoru: Let's try something different later and we'll do that Alice thing next time. Maybe after therapy. Let me call Shoko.

I know I said I'm going to pick up TGCF after reading Erha. However, I got curious how different official translations are from fan ones (thank the JJK experience for this paranoia).
So, I'm kinda re-reading the books and the fan translations alongside it to compare. Nothing egregious so far. It's a fun exercise too.
Looking forward doing this with the upcoming new book.
I'm also kinda debating whether to really go for TGCF next after Erha. I'm debating whether to pick up Yuwu instead since Meatbun wrote that too and I liked Meatbun's writing.
Then I've also seen posts about SVSSS being compared to Erha. Tbh, I have lukewarm feelings about it since the genre feels very different (it sounds more on the comedic side) and some of the interesting aspects of the story were apparently not given a satisfying conclusion (like what exactly IS the system was never tackled). However, the comparisons are tempting my curiosity to see and judge them for myself.

Toji is one unlucky guy. He left his family behind and started anew with the love of his life. Yet, he lost her and lost himself as well. To top it all off, he sold his own son as he drowned himself in all his vices.
Toji always loses when he gambles. However, during the last moments of his life, he made at least one last bet.
"In two or three years, my kid will be sold off to the Zenin Family. Do as you please."
Toji gambled Megumi's fate on the young man that he had almost killed and has now killed him in return. He did not make a specific request. He simply stated a fact and left everything to chance.
All of Toji's luck went into that one bet - Gojo did as he pleased with the information and prevented Megumi from suffering under the Zenin Family. Toji hit the jackpot for his son.

The greatest enemy of JJK fandom is... John Werry.
Let me explain how bad his work is. Just one example off the top of my head.
Fan Translation:
Shoko: "Hell would freeze over before I fall in love with one of you (Gojo & Geto)"
Viz Translation aka John Werry Translation
Shoko: "I was in love with one of you. (Gojo Geto)"
THOSE TWO STATEMENTS ARE AS DIFFERENT AS NIGHT AND DAY!
MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!!!! 🤬

While still on my 2HA high, I really want to talk about Chu Wanning's love for Mo Ran.
It is strange, isn't it? How deep his love goes when he only met little Mo Ran for a short while.
IMO, Chu Wanning is like Goj0 Sat0ru - the strongest but the loneliest. Everyone puts them on a pedestal which isolates them from building true connections with others.
For example, Xue Meng obviously loves and cares for Chu Wanning. However, he deeply respects and fears him too. He never sits beside his teacher when eating after all.
Coupled with Chu Wanning's temper and horrible social skills, he is an intimidating figure that would be really difficult to befriend.
Then little Mo Ran barges into his life. He disregarded all the social propriety bullshit and straight up demanded Chu Wanning to pay attention to him. He reached out and interacted Chu Wanning as a person - not some powerful figure to be revered and feared. For someone who has been treated as almost a "nonperson" because of his abilities for his entire life, that simple demand was special and kind in Chu Wanning's perspective.
So, imo, Chu Wanning is like Goj0 and Mo Ran is his "Get0". He loves him because, through sheer luck (aka fate), he is the first to see him beyond his powers and treat him as a real person.
So the next question then is when did Chu Wanning fell in love with Mo Ran?
I don't really know. In the beginning of the new timeline, Wanning is already in love with Mo Ran - he feels jealous of Shi Mei and feels wrong about having such feelings. I guess his love grew over time? Kinda like how Shi Mei and Mo Ran developed their feelings for him.
Maybe that's the case in 0.5 too but far more complicated. Chu Wanning loved Mo Ran. Fell in love with Mo Ran but never did anything about it because of Shi Mei. Probably fell out of love because of Taxian-Jun being Taxian-Jun. However, Chu Wanning's love for Mo Ran still endured despite everything especially when he realized his former disciple needed saving.
As for lusting after Mo Ran, I can only say poor Chu Wanning in the current(second?) timeline. The guy's already in love and ready to take his forbidden feelings to his grave. However, the soul fragment 0.5 Wanning put into him made him remember all his horrific experiences as an abused sex slave by Taxian-Jun... which he misinterpreted as wet dreams and triggered his lust. What a fucking mess. It would have been funny if it weren't so dark and depressing.

The Husky and His White Cat Shizun (2HA, Erha) delivered everything I wanted in a story plus everything I never knew I would actually want in a story.
When I consumed all four books and realized there was more, I was horrified. So, I ventured to all fan translations I can get and practically lost sleeping hours to finish it. It is that good imo.
First off tho, it is not for the faint of heart. Do not be fooled by the cover with pretty art. The premise barely scratches the surface of how dark the story is. Book 4 is also a fucking trap that lulls you into bringing down your defenses before giving you an upper cut in the face then pummeling down your soul into tiny little pieces.
It promised me a cute albeit dark-ish story of two men falling in love. However, what it delivered was a narrative with a thin veneer of fluff to hide tons of absolute brutality concerning racism, classism, elitism, generational trauma, body horror, genocide, rape, mob mentality, gossips, and so much more.
At its core tho, it is still a love story. You just need the patience of a saint and nerves of steel to power through all the pain and agony after the Farming Arc (Basically, be like Chu Wanning as a Reader). ----> I guess you can summarize my feelings as "Went in for the BL. Stayed for the plot. Surprised how underneath that pain, horror, and tragedies woven in the story - it was always about love."
Sure, there were asspulls here (Nangong Bloodline Mo Ran) and there (Butterfly Boned Beauty Feast Mo Ran). There were attempts to set up those reveals tho but they were a bit clunky. However, it is not too detrimental to the overall appeal of the story for me. There were weird phrasings and word choices too but I gave them a slide since it is a light novel after all.
The gore in the story is unexpectedly top notch tho. The fights and monsters are interesting. The stakes in the plot really ramps up the suspense. While some Reveals are fairly obvious, they were still rewarding because they were set up quite nicely such as the reveal of 0.5 Chu Wanning's soul being implanted in the current timeline Chu Wanning, Taxian-Jun appearing, and Shi Mei not being as nice as he presents himself to be.
I also like how redemption was explored in the story. A lot of characters, like Mo Ran, were presented with second chances to fix their own fuck ups. While the villainous characters were sympathetic, they were not given a pass. All of them have to work hard and make the right choices to achieve true redemption.
Just for example: Mo Ran. He feels remorse for everything he had done as Taxian-Jun. He did his best to make up for it. Chu Wanning even forgives him. However, it was not enough. Because the wrongs he had done are not just againstbWanning after all. He still had to pay for his sins with his peaceful life as Grandmaster and earn his happy ending through zombie Taxian-Jun.
There are many more characters trying to seek redemption in the story but I think it would be better if that is in a separate post instead.
Now, another recurring theme featured in Erha is kindness. In the story, Kindness can both be a blessing or a curse. A small amount of it can have big repercussions. Also, contrary to what most people think, kindness is a choice that requires a lot of (mostly thankless) hard work and sacrifice.
Anyway, Erha is my first danmei and I love it. It is dark but with a nice satisfying ending. I'll check out others. Scumbag Villain Self Saving System seems to be a good follow up but from I have read so far about it, it's kind of a parody/comedy type of story?
Maybe I'll check out Heaven Official's Blessing first instead.

Admittedly, I have some fondness for Kang Taeshik. He is interesting and it's kinda sad to see him go so fast.
Sometimes, I wonder how fascinating it would have been if he and Jinchul have built some sort of real partnership. Jinchul is Taeshik's Morality Pet/Compass. Taeshik is Jinchul's second "special case" (Jinwoo is the first) - he wants to protect the Hunter from his own violent impulses.
They are partners at work. Jinchul allows Taeshik to "hunt" aka do extra judicial killings in the dungeons and even covers for him. Taeshik runs all his "hunts" through Jinchul first and even avoids civilian deaths as much as possible.
Then the ill fated mission with Jinwoo happens.
Hmm... Maybe I can make this even more twisted if Taeshik is aware of Jinwoo's value towards Jinchul. Then he uses that knowledge to drag down Jinchul to his level on hunting people as well.
Just basically:
Jinchul towards Taeshik: I can fix him.
Taeshik towards Jinchul: I can ruin him.
Extra:
Jinwoo: What the fuck is going on? Are they murder husbands or not? Wait, Chief Woo is my what? Do I need to save him or something?
