yes van gogh did medicate and receive treatment and paint some of his most acclaimed pieces in the sanatorium where he stayed but he also very much did use art as a coping mechanism and work himself to near breakdowns due to anxiety and impostor syndrome. and maybe the practice he acquired as a result did indirectly contribute to the masterpieces he produced. and maybe we wouldn't have sunflowers or starry night had he found a healthier outlet for his suffering.

and maybe that would've been okay. maybe theo was more entitled to having a brother than humanity was to starry night. maybe there wouldn't be a van gogh but there would be vincent.

and maybe that would've been a better universe.

remember that alternate version of you trapped in a storybook? well, they got out and live in your ship now. it's ok because you were in hell at the time.

a ghost of a botanist is trapped in a pile of rocks. you make friends with it by pouring some herbal tea onto the rocks and then beating the shit out of angry foresters.

an army of clones is trying to take over the earth. they're ruled by a flying tv with a really long neck and a pair of girlbosses. you end up sympathizing with the clones and feel bad when you have to kill them.

remember the talking cancer cells? well, they're sentient, and also taking over entire planets. some people did a cult about it.

indiana johnes hires you to rob a tomb. the tomb contains his childhood trauma.

a big point in the story is that you used to live on a generation ship that crashed into the hell dimension. turns out it's stuck in a literal hole in reality, plugging it. you get to squat in the captain's quarters, where you can have ptsd in peace.

an entire quest where your dad and your mom fight over custody, and then your dad tries to kill you.

remember the hell dimension? well, your mom stashed the moon in there, but she can't quite remember where she put it, so you have to go and fetch it for her. in the process, you also find yourself. all the while, your grandpa's pushover boytoy is hunting you for sport.

you play as a family therapist for some talking flowers. the stuff they tell you about each other makes you wish you had a therapist.

in a regular event, the surface of venus opens beneath your feet and sunny d pours out. other than yielding some rewards, this event has no impact on your gameplay.

remember the long-dead empire? well, you gotta scavenge their USB sticks so that a mean bisexual can grind them into dust.

you help a woman search for her missing husband. turns out he's literally next door. no, they don't end up together.

A non-exhaustive list of things that happen in Warframe out of context:

An ultracapitalist warlord is harrasing cyborg kids for a comic book. You can help the kids by pulling sick skateboard tricks. The reward is a playable magical girl (who also pulls sick skateboard tricks).

A megacorporation has made the stock exchange into a bloodsport.

Your grandad tries to corrupt a computer. The only way to stop him is by jumping into cyberspace and blasting orchestral dubstep at him.

A room on your ship has been taken over by talking cancer cells. This is entirely beneficial to you.

An autistic child figured out who the main antagonist of the universe is. Some people did a cult about it.

The Pope of Capitalism is hiding in his own pocket dimension. You fight him by throwing a disc at ghosts.

Some of the characters you play have built-in weaponry. One of them has a built-in cat.

The alternate reality version of you has been trapped in a storybook fighting a one-person rebellion against a mad child king.

Sometimes you get attacked by the pinnacle of edgelords who is also your grandad's boytoy. He is a pushover, but somehow his disciples aren't.

You gain the ability to own and pilot a big ship. For unexplained reasons the ship is powered by a mummified finger in a jar.

One time you pilot a robot ghost to fight soldiers in space while a ship captain sings a shanty at you.

Turns out your adoptive mother is really your adoptive mother masquerading as your adoptive mother. Her ex blames you for this.

The final objective of a climactic story mission involves you helping your mother fight her abusive ex and preventing the corpse of your grandmother from eating the sun.

The leading scientist of a now long-dead empire has gone missing. You need to help his husband and their three talking pets fight living mannequin arms using a spellbook.

Time travel exists, and its main purpose is to stop Y2K, which actually happened.
