Connor checked his phone as he went for his break and frowned when he saw 15 missed calls. Said frown went deeper when half of the calls were from an unknown number and half were from Maggie. Conner’s heart raced, knowing that there’s only one reason why Maggie had called him. There’s only person who would make Maggie called Connor.
He thought of the possible scenarios that might’ve happened as he pressed on Maggie’s number and waited for her to pick up. Fortunately for Connor, Maggie answered within 2 rings. It took less than 2 minutes within the phone call for Connor to go to his boss and request for a few days of emergency leave which was granted to him straight away.
Connor rushed home to book a ticket back to Chicago and as soon as he’d gotten the confirmed ticket, he packed whatever essentials he needed and headed to the airport.
Maggie’s words repeated itself in his head. “It’s Will, he was in a building fire and it’s bad. Jay’s unreachable and nobody’s here to take care of him.”
Connor knew that he was Will’s next emergency contact after Jay but he never would’ve thought this day would come. For whatever reason Jay was unreachable, he hoped nothing bad happened to the younger Halstead. Will would be devastated. Speaking of Will, how in the world did he get involved in a building fire?
As Connor was deep in his thoughts, his feet subconsciously brought him up to his gate and for the next 4 hours, he was on his way back to Chicago. Back to someone who he’d never thought he’d get along with let alone care like a brother.
Connor didn’t waste any time getting to Med and when he reached the reception area, he saw April.
“Hey, come on, I’ll bring you in,” April knew why Connor was here. She brought him in to Maggie and went off to do her work.
“Hi Mags,” Connor greeted her, “thanks for calling me. Where’s Will?”
“He’s up in the ICU. He was brought in with severe smoke inhalation and a broken leg. I heard he was pinned after helping to get Hannah out. Doctor Choi is upstairs, he’ll update you more,” Maggie explained.
“What happened Mags? How did it get this bad?” Connor asked.
Maggie looked at him. She sighed. Her eyes were teary, Connor noticed but he was not surprised because of all the staff in this hospital, Maggie was the closest to Will who saw her like a sister.
“You know about the apartment building he purchased?” Connor nodded, Will had told him about it and whatever transpired before that. Then, it clicked in his mind. Connor’s face gave away to Maggie that he had figured it out.
“The entire building?”
Maggie nodded, “That’s what I heard from 51.”
God, just when things were starting to look bright for Will.
Connor was pulled from his thoughts as they stopped in front of a room where Dr Choi was. Their footsteps alerted Ethan, who turned and smiled at the approaching figures. Ethan kept his greetings short, knowing that Connor would want to hear about Will as soon as possible.
“I’m sure Maggie told you about Will’s condition when he was brought in. And I’m sure you know and understand the treatment we’re giving him. We’ve put him under and intubated him to relieve the stress on his lungs and allow them to heal. We’re optimistic that he'll recover with minimal damage, but we’ll continue to monitor. As for his leg, he had surgery to fix it. It’s looking better so far,” Ethan paused, allowing Connor to digest his explanation. It was one thing being a doctor and hearing these information but it was another being a caretaker, a guardian hearing them. Ethan knew Connor understood, but right now he wasn’t here as a doctor, he was here as Will’s emergency contact. Someone personal, and so he needed time.
Connor nodded and asked a few questions which Ethan answered before ultimately asking if he could sit with Will. “Sure, as long as you’re not in the way of any of the nurses or doctors here.”
As he sat down, Connor took in the sight of Will in front of him. It was unnerving to see Will so still and quiet, the guy was talkative and always on the move. Honestly, it scared Connor. Connor and Will started off on the wrong foot but over the years, both of them had formed a tight bond and their friendship was never like the ones Connor had with other people.
“Hey Will, I’m here,” Connor held Will’s cold hand, “you better get better, you hear me? You have to, for Jay, for me, for your patients, for yourself. You’re gonna be okay,” Connor reassured, gripping Will’s hand.
~
It was 5 days after the incident and Connor hoped that Will would wake up soon. The doctors had reduced the sedation as Will’s numbers improved over the days and when Will started breathing on his own, they removed the breathing tube. But Will remained asleep, and he deserved this rest as long as Connor knew Will’s okay.
As Connor sat by Will, for the umpteenth time of the week, Maggie’s words once again rang in his mind.
“Jay left. Nobody knew except for his team and Will only got to know from Voight after he couldn’t reach Jay. God, Connor, the look on his face. People around him kept leaving him and he believed that it was his fault. That it was karma because he left his family a long time ago. He just hasn’t been himself these days and then the fire happened. I tried calling Jay and other methods to contact him but all failed. I checked Will’s details and saw you were listed as his 2nd emergency contact so I crossed my fingers and called you. Thanks for answering and dropping everything, which I know you did, to come here. That man doesn’t deserve to wake up after such a horrific incident alone.”
Connor remembered wincing at the mention of people around Will leaving, knowing that he was one of them and he too left without saying anything, not even a goodbye. And hearing that Will blamed himself made the guilt stabbed deeper. Connor couldn’t think of anything to say so he just settled with thanking her for calling him and updating him with what she felt he needed to know.
Eyes teary, Connor looked up to Will’s face. Time froze as he stared into the brown eyes he’d missed ever since he left Chicago. Apparently as he was deep in his thoughts, Connor missed his friend waking up. Connor could only smile before a nurse, who chanced upon an awake Will, came in.
Then, the next few moments were busy with Will’s doctors and nurses checking in on him and informing him about his injuries and treatment. Connor waited patiently at the corner of the room, not wanting to impose or be in the way. But that doesn’t mean that he didn’t notice how Will’s eyes kept drifting to him. Each time it happened, Connor would smile his way.
Will’s doctor then turned and talked to Connor regarding Will’s care including the next steps now that Will’s awake. It wasn’t long before it’s finally just the two of them in the room again.
Connor sat back in the seat he’s occupied beside Will’s bed. A lap of silence as the two looked at each other. “You-“ Will’s voice cracked, showing how long his throat had been inactive. Connor fetched the glass of water nearby and held it for Will to drink from the straw.
“You’re back?” Will’s sentence sounded like a question. Connor placed the glass on the table and looked back at Will. He smiled as he said, “I came right after hearing what happened, I’m sorry this happened. Good to know you’re gonna be okay.”
“Me too. Sorry to trouble you,” Will managed to say before a coughing bout.
“Easy, Will. You’re still recovering, so save your energy,” Connor patted his back, alternating with running his hand up and down Will’s back, to relieve the cough. “And it’s no trouble, Will, really. I’m just glad that you have someone here to take care of you.”
Will kept quiet. Connor kind of knew what was going on in his friend’s mind.
“I heard about Jay and I’m sorry about that too. It must’ve been hard not having your brother around and even more so for him to leave without saying goodbye. And I know I left too, without saying anything either. But I’m here now and I’m sure if Jay knew, he’d be here in an instant too.”
Connor placed his hand on Will’s arm, “Look at me,” he said and didn’t continue until Will tilted his head up and made eye contact with Connor.
“I know that people around you have been drifting away and unfortunate things keep happening. But it’s not on you, Will. It’s not your fault. So don’t you dare start blaming yourself for the fire.” Connor knew he had to touch this subject as soon as possible before Will could bottle it up and keep everything to himself.
“No matter who was affected, why it happened or how much damage it cost, it’s not your fault. Ya hear me?”
Will nodded. Connor really had a way to convince people.
Connor removed his hand and gave Will the time and space to settle down.
“Thanks for being here,” Will whispered, “I don’t know what to do now,” he said as he looked down and fiddled with the blanket.
Connor’s heart broke a bit seeing Will so dejected. “Hey, it’s okay. We’ll figure this out together, I’ll be here,” Connor then placed his hand gently on Will’s shoulder. “I still have my old apartment, if you want to stay after you’re discharged. We can sort everything else along the way or once you’ve recovered.”
Will was silent and Connor let him be, not wanting to push Will into anything. It took a while before Will said, “I don’t think I wanna stay here anymore.”
Connor, surprised, couldn’t hold himself from asking what Will meant.
“I wanna leave Chicago. There’s nothing here for me anymore. Dad’s gone, Jay’s gone, you’re not staying here anymore and I’m sure the moment I’m well enough, you’re gonna leave again. And I’m not in any relationship. So there’s nothing tying me here except my parent’s graves and my brother’s wife.” Apparently Will was still not up to long talks as he started coughing again the moment he finished his words.
Connor gave Will water to relieve his cough and soon, it stopped but Will was out of breath.
“Okay, you need to take it easy Will, your lungs are still not that strong yet. Now listen, you wanna leave? I hear you and it’s fine by me. But you have to wait until your doctor gives you the all clear, okay. In the meantime, you need to rest and maybe you could start to think of where you want to go.” Connor patted Will’s arm.
Not even a beat after Connor’s words, Will croaked out, “Is your offer still up?”
Connor widened his eyes. Connor had offered Will to move to where he was if he wanted. It was a spur of the moment thought and he didn’t expect Will to remember. “You remembered?”
He saw Will nodding, “But it’s okay if it’s not. I could think of something else,” Will said.
“No, don’t trouble yourself. My offer still stands. I have an extra room in my apartment and I’m sure there are hospitals that would accept you, especially the one I’m working at. But please, don’t rush to make any decisions. Take your time, don’t worry, I’ll be here. Just focus on getting better first.”
Will nodded and yawned. Connor chuckled and helped Will settle against the pillows.
“Thanks, Connor. I’m really glad you’re here,” Will said before he lost the battle of keeping his eyes open.
“It’s okay, Will. I’ve got you. Sleep, you need the rest. I’ll be here when you wake up.” Connor patted Will’s arm again and settled against his own seat and closed his eyes. He vowed to take care of Will the way Will had done for everyone else. It was the least he could do but first, Connor’s gonna get some rest too.

“Room for one more?” A voice so familiar rang through my ears. A voice I’ve wished so many times to hear other than through the phone. I looked up and my eyes got misty. All the air seemed to have sucked out from my lungs as I took in the sight in front of me.
Standing gloriously a few feet away was Connor. Connor Rhodes.
Connor, who left because traumatising things happened one after another and he needed a break from the city. Connor, who left, leaving a distraught girlfriend back in Chicago, threading life with little to no support, what with her boyfriend being in another city, her older brother leaving and her other older brother being so close to losing it with whatever’s been happening in his life, the not-so recent building apartment fire flashed by in her mind. God, I nearly lost Will, lost my brother.
“Mind if I sit with you?” Connor’s voice once again brought me back from my thoughts.
“Connor,” I managed to utter because if I were to say anything else, the flood works would come. Connor took it as an invitation to sit next to me, on the bench outside the hospital overlooking a park nearby.
“You’re back,” I said as I looked at him, cataloging every feature of his face. I’ve missed this so much. It’s been almost a year since he left and that one year was downright a crazy year.
Connor chuckled and let out a soft but bright smile that never failed to spread warmth all over me, “I’m back, babe. For good.” Connor reached his arm and pulled towards him. The moment I was attached to him in a sort of a side hug, I sagged and melted into him.
I took in the smell of his cologne, one that I’ve been trying to keep up with over the year, because this man didn’t think through his decision of leaving at least his cologne so I could remember his smell.
I wrapped my arms around him and it took no more than a few seconds for me to start crying. I can’t believe that he is really here, beside me, that it is his arms that’s finally wrapped around me.
Connor didn’t say anything, just held me tighter and occasionally rubbed his hand up and down my arm to comfort me.
“I’m sorry babe, that you had to go through everything alone. I’m here now, we’ll get through whatever together, all right,” Connor was no stranger to my life even after he left Chicago. Every single night I’d text or call him to give life updates but it was one thing to be a listening ear miles away and another to be physically there to support you.
“I’m never leaving you again and if I have to get away from here, I’ll bring you with me,” he said, tone suggesting that he’s making a promise.
I nodded, not trusting myself to say anything yet although the tears have stopped. I rested my head on his shoulder and took a deep breath in.
“Glad you came back, babe. I know it’s hard for you too, this place doesn’t really give you a lot of good memories, and I’m sorry for not being there for you too,” I started after a stretch of silence.
“It’s okay, maybe the happy memories are not much but it’s enough and I think I’m open to the idea of making more since my favourite person is still here. What’d you think?” I turned my head to see him looking at me. I nodded.
“I love you, Connor Rhodes, thanks for coming back,” I hugged him tighter and felt his arms hugging me back. “I love you too,” Connor kissed the top of my head.
“Do you need to go back in anytime soon?” I heard him ask. I shook my head, my shift was already over but I wasn’t ready to go back to an empty apartment, not after the day I had. But now that my home is here, “Let’s go back, my shift’s over.”

~
There’s no Halstead family dinner that’s uneventful and that includes tonight. Everyone’s here at dad’s home for our weekly dinner. Will was the one who insisted on having dinners like this to spend time together after dad’s narrow escape from death in the apartment fire (and to watch dad’s diet once in a while, not that Will would admit that).
Dad’s seated at one end of the table and Will at the other end while Jay and Hailey sat at one side of the table and Alina and I sat at the other side of the table. Alina is my niece, Jay’s and Hailey’s daughter, who’s turning 8 years old in a few months.
Our plates were all loaded up with food that Will and I cooked since we’re in-charge of dinner tonight.
“The mashed potatoes are so good! I’m guessing Evie cooked it?” Jay said, in between mouthfuls of mashed potatoes. I laughed, “That’s right, big brother, and it’s mom’s recipe so can’t go wrong.”
There’s a pause of silence after I mentioned mom but that’s normal, we all miss her. Trying to cheer the moment, Hailey complimented the pasta that everybody knew Will made because it was his go-to dish to cook (and his most famous in the family). Dinner resumed and everyone made small talks with each other.
“I want to eat bread with nutella,” whined Alina and I glanced over to see that her dinner was already half-eaten. “Go and take the bread and nutella from the kitchen,” I instructed and Alina smiled cheerfully, skipping to the kitchen and back to the dining table with said items.
I helped Alina to spread the nutella on the bread and continued eating my dinner. Not even 5 minutes later, Alina called out to me, “I want more,” so I said, “You can do it yourself, Alina”. I pushed the bread and nutella to her. I was about to continue eating when dad voiced out, “Why can’t you just do it for her? She wants to eat it.”
Before I could even answer, he continued, “Sometimes, I think that you don’t like Alina. The way you treat her at times is just uncalled for.” I looked at dad, was he being serious? Was he really going to talk about this during dinner? Granted I’m not the kind of aunt who’s lovey dovey with their niece but that doesn’t mean I don’t love her. I’m rough with her because she’s like my younger sister who can tolerate and even return that treatment to me. It was like your typical sister siblings behaviour. Regardless, it was a mutual agreement that we don’t upset each other while eating and dad being dad, went straight to break it.
“Dad, Evie’s in the middle of eating, she hasn’t eaten since lunch and was busy the whole evening, besides, Alina’s old enough to spread the nutella on her own.” I heard Will saying. I felt myself shut down, which usually happens when I’m upset.
“Yeah dad, Alina can do it herself, don’t be mad,” Hailey started before turning to me and apologised, “Sorry Evie”. I shook my head and smiled (more like grimaced) at her, whispering a short “it’s okay”. Then, before Alina could reach the bread, I took it and made one for her. My eyes got teary and I knew if I talked I’d cry so I whispered to her, asking if she wanted more. Alina nodded so I made another piece for her.
I went silent the entire dinner. Having lost appetite after what happened, I ate slowly and ended up picking half of what’s left on my plate. I felt Will nudging my leg from under the table and I looked up to see the concern in his eyes. I smiled and continued picking at my food.
One by one, everybody finished their dinner and I carried my own plate together with what’s left on the dining table to the kitchen. Tonight, it was also mine and Will’s turn to clear the dishes and clean the kitchen. So while the two of us were in the kitchen, the rest were in the living room watching tv.
“I’m sorry about dad. He shouldn’t have said that, especially when we’re eating.” Will said, starting what he hoped to be a conversation that I honestly was not in the mood for. I shrugged and replied, “Whatever, not the first time and i’m sure it’s not gonna be the last. Let’s just clear all these so we can go home.” My tone giving Will no room to retort or continue the conversation. So we cleaned in silence and soon dad’s kitchen was back to its original state, clean and tidy.
‘Hey dad, I’m gonna go home first. See ya around,” I didn’t bother to wait for any replies before heading out the front door.
“Evie!” I heard Jay called out and stopped. I felt Jay approaching before he entered my line of sight. “I want to apologise for dinner, about Alina and Dad. I know you love my daughter, no doubt about that. It’s not fair for dad to say that to you, after what you’ve done for Alina ever since she was a baby. I’m not excusing him but it’s not like you don’t know him, right. Please don’t let this be our last family dinner.” Jay said.
I scoffed because yeah, I know what dad is like, but I thought he could’ve at least spared my dignity over dinner. “Don’t worry big brother, I’m not gonna disappear just because of tonight. I’ve faced worst than this, and I’m sorry too about Alina, I could’ve just prepared more than one piece of bread and no drama would occur. It's my fault too.”
Jay laughed and shook his head, “Don’t blame yourself, we’re Halstead, what’s life without drama,” he paused, then continued, “Okay, not gonna keep you here any longer than you’d want, so see ya around kiddo, and wait for Will, you live with him,” Jay ruffled my hair and went back in. Seconds after, Will was rushing out of the house.
“You’re so impatient, lil sis, left me high and dry in there to explain to dad why we’re rushing back home,” I heard Will and rolled my eyes. As Will turned the car engine on, he looked at me and said, “Dad said he’s sorry for what he said just now,”
I nodded. I looked at the house dad stayed and thought about the people inside and knew that I wouldn’t change this family for anything, even with the baggage it comes with.
“Okay.”

It was just yesterday but it felt like it was just a minute ago that Eric made two grave mistakes, possibly costing The Boyz their ranking in Kingdom.
Eric remembered clearly how he stumbled and tripped over his freaking leg during the first chorus of O Sole Mio. He remembered clearly how he dropped the stick during the dance break. Eric remembered clearly how Juyeon, Q and Sunwoo looked so angry and screamed at him when they reached the waiting room. And Eric remembered clearly how disappointed his hyungs were when it was announced they got 6th place.
"ERIC! See what you've done! We're now in 6th place and if it wasn't because of your two stupid mistakes, we wouldn't be in this position now! Everyone's exhausted with the constant practice, and you had to go and ruin all our efforts to climb the ranking! I can't believe this! I'm so done with you!" Juyeon shouted, the first thing he did when they reached home. He was so livid at Eric for making two, not even one, but two mistakes. He couldn't even look at Eric so he stormed to his room leaving the maknae shaking in the living room.
"Yah! If you don't want to help us, then there's no point in practicing so hard and being with us" Sunwoo's words hurt so much. Eric turned to look whether he was joking but the expression on Sunwoo's face said otherwise. Eric froze, looking at Sunwoo's retreating back as he went into his room.
"You are unbelievable Eric. How could you do this to us? Is this not important to you? Juyeon and Sunwoo's right. I'm so done with you!" Q shouted at Eric's face before storming to his room too.
Eric startled from his frozen state by the slamming of the door.
"Eric-ah, let's go" Younghoon gently wrapped his fingers around Eric's wrist and pulled him into their shared bedroom. Younghoon took Eric's sleeping clothes, placed it in Eric's arms and brought him to the bathroom.
"Take a quick shower. I'll wait for you outside," Younghoon went out and heard the shower turn on.
It took Eric only 15 minutes to shower and put on his clothes before going out. Younghoon quietly took Eric back to their bedroom where they both saw Haknyeon sitting on Eric's bed.
Eric took a seat next to Haknyeon and Younghoon joined them. Not even a minute, tears sprang from Eric's eyes and then he was crying. Younghoon and Haknyeon's hearts broke looking at their crying maknae. They knew that the others were being too harsh on their youngest, mistakes are inevitable and although Eric's mistakes were quite serious, he didn't deserve to be shouted at like that.
They sat, huddled together, for about 15 minutes before Younghoon felt a weight on his shoulder. He looked down and saw the poor boy cried himself to sleep.
Haknyeon helped Younghoon tuck Eric in before the both of them gave Eric a goodnight forehead kiss like they always do.
"Haknyeon-ah, do you want to sleep here tonight?" Younghoon suddenly asked, feeling that it's best if Haknyeon slept in their room.
Haknyeon thought about it and replied, "Mian hyung, I'd love to but I don't want Hyunjae hyung to sleep alone."
Younghoon nodded, he understood what Haknyeon meant. "Goodnight Haknyeon, have a good rest," Younghoon hugged Haknyeon before the younger one left for his bedroom.
~
[present time]
"All right, before we start the practice for the next performance, I want to diffuse the tension here," Daehyun hyung, their choreographer, started off, "I know what happened during the last round upset and disappointed everyone. And it might have cost you your ranking. But I want you to shake it off today so that we can move on from that to the next performance."
"Eric," Daehyun hyung faced the said boy, "I'm going to be honest with you all right, the mistakes were serious in a sense that it affected the performance as a whole. They were not small mistakes but rather big ones that caught audiences' attention. So, I hope that from now on you try your best to ensure you won't make grave mistakes like you did previously. Understood?"
Eric nodded and thanked his lucky stars that their trainer didn't shout at him like his hyungs did.
"Hyungs, I sincerely apologise from the bottom of my heart for making the mistakes. I'm sorry for causing us to be in 6th place…" Eric choked up but then he continued, "I know it's hard to forgive me but I promise, I'll try my best to not make anymore mistakes." Eric bowed down on his knees, really hoping his hyungs could forgive him. He couldn't live with his hyungs being angry at him for a long time.
Younghoon approached Eric and pulled him up to stand.
"I don't expect the rest of you to forget about this but I hope you won't be angry at Eric for long. You are together as one group so I hope you'll forgive Eric and move on from this." Daehyun hyung then announced the start of practice.
"The choreography I've prepared for Monster focuses on synchronisation and there's going to be a stunt in it." As soon as Daehyun hyung said the word 'stunt', Eric's face lit up and he immediately volunteered to do it. Fortunately, Daehyun hyung agreed to it and Eric knew this was an opportunity for him to redeem himself.
However, Eric's smile faltered when he heard that Hyunjae and Juyeon were going to be the support. He subconsciously winced as Juyeon's words from yesterday rang in his ears. He prayed that this stunt could help him gain the forgiveness of hyungs.
Daehyun informed them that they were going to practice the stunt first before moving on with the dance moves.
Eric felt Juyeon's hard grip around his left wrist. Eric looked at Juyeon and shuddered when the older glared at him. Eric hid the wince as the grip became harder. He looked over to Hyunjae and the elder didn't seem angry but he was not smiling either, so Eric was unsure if Hyunjae was still angry at him. Despite this, Eric put his absolute trust in his hyungs in order to successfully do the stunt.
Luck was playing with Eric, his first attempt at doing the stunt failed horribly as he didn't manage to land on his two feet. Instead, after he was lifted and yanked to the front, he crashed his back on the floor. The air seemed to leave Eric's chest as he crashed. It took him a minute before trying to get up.
It wasn't his two supporting hyungs who helped him up but Haknyeon who rushed to Eric, after seeing Eric struggling to get up.
"Eric-ah, are you okay?" Haknyeon asked, he was worried if the maknae sustained an injury.
"I'm okay hyung, don't worry, thank you for helping me," Eric thanked him then turned to Daehyun, "hyung, I'm sorry, let me try doing it again."
Daehyun nodded and they got to their position before trying it again. And, it was a successful attempt. Eric smiled, but nobody else smiled except Daehyun hyung, Younghoon and Haknyeon.
"Nice work, Eric. You'll just have to practice more to make it more smooth and to ensure you always make a successful landing because don't think The Boyz could take anymore huge mistakes, okay," Daehyun commented and Eric nodded, he understood the importance of this move.
The Boyz continued practice with other dance moves before they ended the day at 1 am.
The boys were driven back home by their manager, Jibeom hyung. As they arrived, all 11 boys thanked their manager and bid him goodbye before going in.
"Hyungs, do you want to eat? I can cook something for all of you" Eric asked but the only replies were slams of bedroom doors. He heard Younghoon sighed beside him, "Eric-ah, it's okay. Let's just wash up then go to bed, okay."
Eric looked at Younghoon and the latter could see the maknae's eyes glistening with tears. He pulled Eric into the bathroom and told Eric to take a quick shower while he retrieved Eric's clothes.
The routine, Eric noticed, was the same as the night before. Younghoon and Haknyeon were already on his bed and once he sat in between them, the tears came. Eric, once again, cried himself to sleep. Once they tucked Eric in and kissed his forehead, Younghoon pulled Haknyeon aside.
"I'm worried, Haknyeon-ah. I don't want Eric to overwork himself just to redeem himself for the mistakes he did. And the others don't seem to talk to him or do anything with him. I have no doubt that Eric's going to feel down if this prolongs." Younghoon voiced his worries.
"I understand hyung and I feel the same. I think as of now, we'll let the others cool down and if they are still treating Eric like this nearing the performance day, then we'll sit everyone together and discuss again." Haknyeon suggested before telling Younghoon to get some rest and he left for his room with Hyunjae.
~
The next morning found Eric eating his breakfast alone. After he got ready, he went to their dining table and saw his hyungs there, but as he sat down, Juyeon, Q and Sunwoo immediately got up and went into their rooms. The other hyungs slowly got up, saying they had to get themselves ready before Jibeom hyung came to pick them up. At least, Younghoon and Haknyeon were still there as they were cleaning up.
But Eric couldn't help but feel his heart break. Were the mistakes he made during the performance too severe to make his hyungs ignore and treat him like this? Suddenly, Eric lost his appetite. He nibbled on the toast given by Younghoon and just finished half of it before retreating to his room.
Younghoon and Haknyeon looked at each other. Although they had hopes that the situation was going to get better, they knew that it was bound to get worse. The two members knew they needed to do something to resolve the issue. But it slipped off their minds as they were kept busy with practice, recordings and other schedules.
As the performance day drew near, Eric kept staying up late to smooth his dance moves and write his rap lyrics.
"Aish, why can't I get this rap to sound nice? I should ask Sunwoo for help, hopefully he'll help me," Eric said to himself, one night, as he was working on his rap.
Eric threw away the fear of asking help from Sunwoo, as the latter was still angry at him, and went to find Sunwoo.
"Sunwoo, can you please help me with my rap? I can't seem to get the rhythm right and -" Eric didn't even finish talking when Sunwoo shut his studio door on Eric's face.
Eric stood there, dumbfounded. He knew his friend was still angry but he didn't expect Sunwoo to shut the door on him and refuse to help him.
Eric walked back to his studio room slowly and after calming himself down, he continued to work on his rap before sending it to their trainer for vetting.
"What the hell is this crap, Eric! You call this rap? It's monotonous and there's no uniqueness whatsoever. I refuse to include this in your performance. You either redo the rap or don't have any part at all!" Their trainer, Hwiyoung hyung, scolded Eric in front of the rest of his hyungs the next day. Eric didn't dare to look at his trainer so he kept his gaze on the floor.
"Sunwoo," Hwiyoung hyung addressed, "please assist Eric in his rap seeing you've done a good job with yours." And boy did Eric's heart break again hearing his trainer's words. Sunwoo just nodded but he was not amused to be tasked with helping Eric; he was still angry at him.
"All of you are dismissed." Hwiyoung hyung announced and the boys went straight to their dance studio for dance practice.
~
Daehyun hyung saw Eric's sad expression as he went into the room. "Eric-ah, are you okay?" Daehyun hyung asked as he walked over to the maknae. Eric smiled, though half-heartedly, and nodded his head because he couldn't trust himself to say anything without it resulting in him crying.
Daehyun hyung had suspected that Eric was having a hard time ever since he made the mistakes during the previous performance. Daehyun just nodded and asked Eric to get ready for practice, he didn't want to push the younger one and cause him to break down.
They started practice and went over the stunt numerous times. Daehyun hyung decided to cut practice a bit short since he could see the boys looking very tired; he was not stupid, Daehyun hyung knew the members were staying up late to practice.
"Boys, let's end practice. Go home and get some rest. We'll continue tomorrow" Daehyun got the boys and back-up dancers to pack up before sending them out of the practice studio.
As they got home, Eric asked his hyungs if they wanted dinner as they had a light lunch during practice. Nobody answered. Eric sighed and went into his shared room with Younghoon and saw his hyung asleep.
Eric went back out and asked Jibeom hyung to drive him to the company. "Eric-ah, why do you want to go back to the company? I thought you boys were given time to rest." Jibeom hyung asked as Eric entered the van.
"I need to redo my rap, hyung," Eric answered.
Jibeom turned, facing Eric. "Eric-ah, couldn't you do that tomorrow? You should rest, not stay up late again like you've done for the past few days. What would your hyungs say if they know you're not resting"
Eric winced, "Don't worry hyung, they won't care." Then he muttered under his breath, 'they're barely even looking at me, how are they going to care if I'm not resting.'
Jibeom hyung wanted to argue but then they arrived at the building and Eric thanked his manager before rushing in. Jibeom hyung shook his head, seeing the youngest's antics.
~
The timing on the clock showed that it was nearing 4 am. Eric was still awake rewriting his rap over and over again. Suddenly, the door slammed open and Eric saw Sunwoo coming in.
"Yah! Do your rap! This part here…" Sunwoo began helping Eric and soon he was done and as he was about to thank Sunwoo, the latter stormed off, clearly not wanting to be around Eric anymore than he should.
The tears came again, as it always does for the past days. Eric let himself cry, not bothering to hold in his emotions. No one was coming in to check on him anyway so he had the room to himself.
Truth to be said, Eric didn't understand why his hyungs are still angry at him and why his other hyungs are ignoring him. The past days ever since the previous performance were taxing for Eric; not only was he dealing with his own guilt of making the grave mistakes, he was also feeling very down as he could not lean on any of his hyungs for comfort and support. He got scolded by his vocal trainer due to his rap and nobody seemed to care about it after. He stayed up late almost every night and nobody seemed to care. Well, Daehyun, Jibeom, Younghoon and Haknyeon hyungs might be the only ones who still cared enough to talk to him and check on him.
In two days time, they'll be performing Monster. Eric told himself to bear with it until then because he was sure once he performed with no mistakes, his hyungs would be back to normal with him, cuddling and joking around with him.
But nobody, including Eric, would've thought such a grave incident would fall upon them.
~
"Good job everyone!" The Boyz just finished performing Monster by Exo.
Daehyun hyung could see, from the place he was standing at, the smile and pride that Eric wore after he slayed the stunt, his rap and overall choreography. As he saw Eric descend down the stairs, Daehyun approached with a big smile, "Good job Eric-ah, you've done a very nice job. I'm very proud of you," Daehyun pulled Eric into a big, warm hug.
"Thank you hyung, for everything. For giving me the opportunity to do the stunt, for guiding me and for believing that I could do it" Daehyun could see tears in Eric's eyes, "Yah, don't cry. You did well, and look who's here," Daehyun turned Eric around for him to see Younghoon and Haknyeon bouncing over to them.
"Eric-ah!" Younghoon shouted, "Although I watched you from the waiting room, I was so proud of you! Good job! You killed it, your stunt, your rap, your dance. Everything!" Younghoon, too, hugged Eric in a tight embrace, feeling so proud of his maknae.
"Your stunt was amazing, Eric-ah, I'm so glad you pulled it off so well" Haknyeon also joined the hug with Younghoon and Eric.
Eric giggled in the hug, "Thank you hyungs. I appreciate it, and I couldn't have done it without Daehyun hyung, you both and the other hyungs," as soon as Eric mentioned the other hyungs, Daehyun, Younghoon and Haknyeon could see the sadness washed over the smile Eric was wearing earlier on.
"It's okay Eric-ah, I'm sure they'll come around soon. You've redeemed yourself already." Younghoon assured Eric, who looked sceptical but nodded along.
They then went ahead to their waiting room. Nobody greeted Eric, telling him he did a good job. The tension was still obvious among them so Eric decided to get some air outside. Besides, his hyung must be glad that he's not in the room with them. Eric quickly went out after telling Jibeom hyung where he was going.
~
As Eric reached the secluded area outside the building, he took a deep breath in and breathed out. Eric realised that whatever he did for the performance might not be enough to redeem himself. But what was he going to do to make his hyung forgive him? In deep thoughts, Eric didn't notice 4 people creeping up towards him.
Out of the blue, Eric felt a sharp pain in his head and immediately he went down to the ground. The 4 people started to throw punches and kicks to Eric. "You don't deserve to be in The Boyz," one of them said. "You bring shame to them and their fans," Eric heard another person say. The kicks and punches continued and suddenly, Eric felt another sharp pain in his chest followed by the same pain in his abdomen. Eric looked down and saw blood gushing out from what Eric perceived as stab wounds. 'God, this hurts so much,' Eric said to himself.
The 4 perpetrators continued beating Eric until they were satisfied and ran away before getting caught.
In his weak state, Eric was not able to call out for help. He laid there, surrendering to his fate. Eric thought of who did this to him and came to a conclusion that they were anti-fans, of his most probably.
His thoughts then changed over to his hyungs, his beloved hyungs. Although the past few days, they've treated him poorly because of his mistakes, he still loves them. His hyungs were there for him the whole time and he regrets not being able to tell them for one last time that he loves them.
Eric's eyes began drooping and soon, Eric's eyes closed, his last thoughts were of his hyungs.
~
"Guys, we should stop treating Eric this way. We need to stop ignoring him, shouting at him for no reason. He made no mistakes today, he redeemed himself already so cut the act out," Younghoon addressed the situation at hand.
"Hyungs, if we keep this up, Eric's going to break down and I'm not sure if we could pick him up after. The way we've been treating him is so bad, hyungs. It's not like Eric purposely made the mistakes. Please, let's just forgive him and treat him normally, like he deserves as a human being." Haknyeon added.
The rest of the members kept quiet, pondering upon what was said by Younghoon and Haknyeon.
Finally, Sangyeon spoke up, "You're right, we've been very harsh to Eric. We need to forgive him and apologise for our actions towards him the past week. Younghoon, Haknyeon, could you go and find Eric, so that we could talk about this a bit, at least, before we're called for the evaluation."
~
Younghoon and Haknyeon went out and went straight to where Eric said he was going. As they reached the place, nothing could ever prepare them for what they were going to see.
"Eric!" Younghoon shouted then ran towards the familiar body of his maknae lying on the cold pavement with blood pouring out of the wounds visible on his body.
"Haknyeon, go and get Jibeom hyung and tell him Eric's hurt badly and needs an ambulance. Go!" Haknyeon never knew he could run so fast and in a flash, he reached his manager hyung and relayed what happened.
Younghoon was panicking but he stayed strong for his youngest dongsaeng. He put pressure on Eric's stab wounds and as he looked up, he saw Eric's eyes fluttered open.
"Eric-ah, hyung's here. Stay with me okay, please stay with me. All the other hyungs forgive you, Eric. We all forgive you so please stay with me. We love you, Eric" Younghoon couldn't fight the tears as they rolled down his cheeks.
Eric placed his palm over Younghoon's hands, a tear slid past Eric's eyes before he went slacked.
"No!!!! Eric-ah!!!" Younghoon screamed at the top of his lungs and Haknyeon never wanted to hear that ever again.
Haknyeon saw the ambulance arriving and took Eric to the hospital as quickly as they could.
~
The rain that poured over the earth was a companion to the sobs heard coming from 10 members of a boy group. They sat, huddled together, crying as they mourned over their youngest dongsaeng. Guilt hung over them as they were unable to apologise to their maknae for their behaviours, unable to voice out and show their love to their maknae.
"Boys," the 10 members looked up and saw Jibeom hyung, his eyes and nose were red, walking into their living room.
"There's no news about the ones who did this yet but the police assured that they are doing the best they can to catch these people." Jibeom hyung told the boys.
"What about Eric?" Jacob croaked out.
Jibeom looked at them then said, "There are no changes as of yet. The doctor's are still unsure if he's going to wake up. And if he does, he would need a lot of support from us. His injuries are severe; the bleeding in his brain, the blood loss and the broken bones, all might have done major damage. We'll not know for sure until he wakes up. So have faith and pray that he does wake up. And when he does, we're going to be there for him all the way and you boys can tell him how all of you love him very much and that you forgive him. Okay?"
The boys nodded and vowed, when Eric wakes up, they'll be there and be the best hyungs for him.
~
Hopes were shattered when the boys received news from Jibeom hyung 4 weeks after the incident.
"I'm sorry but Eric is gone," Jibeom croaked out, clearly crying as he relayed the devastating news to the boys.
"The doctors tried everything they could but it was time for Eric to go."
Tears were evident on everyone's face. They lost their maknae, lost a part of their life, lost the chance to redeem their behaviour and apologise to their youngest. Everyone huddled together in the living room, grieving and mourning for their precious loss. Except for one person.
Younghoon retreated to his shared bedroom with Eric. He took the picture frame that was standing on the bedside table. It was a picture of the whole group at the beach during one of their breaks with Eric in the middle and his hyungs hugging him.
Younghoon traced his fingers over Eric's face, "I miss you, maknae. 4 weeks without you and your chatters, your jokes, your pranks. I never stop praying and hoping you'd wake up, but I guess it's time for you to go, like Jibeom hyung said. I wish for you to have a good rest up there and be happy as usual. I'm sorry, Youngjae. Love you brother."
Younghoon embraced the frame and layed on Eric's bed.
"Thanks Younghoon hyung, I love my hyungs too," he heard Eric whispered, and smiled tearfully.

Part 1 | Part 2
~
"Youngjae-ah" Eric heard his name being called out and as he looked up, he saw his hyungs coming in his private hospital room bringing food, bouquet of flowers and a very cute looking teddy bear.
"Here, we brought these for you, uri maknae" New said, giving Eric, his roommate, the teddy bear while Q put the food and flowers on the table.
"How are you feeling, Eric-i?" Sangyeon asked, replacing Jacob's place on Eric's right side, as he went to get a quick shower.
"I'm feeling better hyung, thanks for coming although we could have just get together at the dorm when I'm released" Eric kept his head down, only looking at his hands on his lap.
"Hey," Sangyeon held Eric's chin making him look at Sangyeon, "if we wait until you come home, it's going to take so long until we can see you and I personally don't think we could wait that long to see our maknae." Sangyeon pulled Eric into an embrace, caressing his back gently.
Eric felt his tears rolling down his cheeks. His hands held on to Sangyeon like his dear life depended on it. He had been craving this loving touch for weeks.
"Hyung is sorry, Eric-ah. Hyung should've realised sooner that you were feeling down." Sangyeon apologised to Eric for causing such pain to his maknae.
"All of us are very sorry, Eric. We know you are good at what you do and you always put in your best effort for us. What Hansol hyung said was not true and we're sorry if we ever made you feel that way. We understand if you could not forgive us now, but we hope you'll do" Hyunjae said as he sat by Eric's left side and placed his hand on Eric's shoulder.
"Youngjae-ah, hyung is sorry too for implying to the others that you were slacking off. I'm really sorry Youngjae-ah, hyung knows you always work hard, I see the efforts you put in all the time. Please don't believe yourself to be less worthy than us. You are as important as us in this group. We love you, we adore you, uri maknae" Juyeon teared up as he apologised for his behaviour towards Eric. Eric looked up to Juyeon and saw Q standing beside him, consoling Juyeon.
"Hyungs" Eric croaked out. "I forgive you, thank you for not being angry with me. It's just, just…" Hyunjae rubbed his arm to offer comfort, seeing Eric getting choked up.
"It's just ever since our second performance in Kingdom, nobody seemed to see me in The Boyz. It felt like The Boyz were just a group of 10 members. Even the stunt I did was nothing compared to what all of you hyungs did. I just feel like the back burner. I didn't want constant praises or anything like that but a simple well done would have been great. And why do they always cut out the lyrics I wrote, hyung. I thought it was good but maybe it's not, that's why they cut it off. Maybe I was just not good enough," Eric sobbed. "But hyung, I promise, I didn't slack off hyung, I promise I won't. I-"
"Eric, hey," Sangyeon was now holding Eric's face, getting him to calm down.
"Aegi-ah, we swear, you did a great job for every performance, especially the ones in Kingdom. The stunt you did for No Air was excellent and I'm sorry nobody voiced it out. We're sorry for not making you see that we're proud of you." Q said and caressed Eric's feet.
"Changmin's right. The stunt you did was your effort as much as it is with Hyunjae, Juyeon and Jacob," New got the mentioned members nodding their heads, agreeing with what he said. New continued, "I'm very proud of you, you never fail to show us what you're capable of and you never fail to brighten up our lives with your sunshine personality. Thank you Eric-ah" New smiled, seeing Eric looked at with a little smile on his face.
"Eric, listen okay, the lyrics you write, the raps are good. They are always improving, and I'm proud of you okay, really I am. You've put in so much effort to improve yourself, time and time again. About the cutting off, don't worry too much all right, I'm sure there will be an opportunity for you to showcase your raps" Sunwoo coaxed Eric, going over to him and ruffling his hair.
By now, Eric had already stopped crying and listened earnestly to what his hyungs were saying.
"Eric-ah," the gentle voice of Haknyeon made Eric look at him. "You are good enough for this group, don't feel less of yourself. We're glad you're still here with us, together in this journey from the start. We wouldn't want it any other way, even if sometimes you might be the annoying brother who always disturbs others." This caused the occupants of the room to laugh a little, lifting the mood up a bit.
"But it's true, we wouldn't have it any other way. We'll be more than happy to help you along the way and give you cuddles when you want it," Kevin smiled, "We love you for who you are and don't believe it to be any lesser." Kevin went ahead to ruffle his hair, just like Sunwoo did.
"Yah, the kid is not well and you all are ruffling his hair" New's words made Eric giggled. The members were glad Eric looked happier.
Younghoon walked over to Eric and handed him a frame where there was a picture of all 11 of them with the words 'Proud of ya' in the middle. "Believe that we are all really proud of you. See how far you've come, Eric-ah. I hope that your spirits are not broken by what happened. If it has, then we'll be there to help you pick it up. We promise you, Eric. We love you" Younghoon caressed Eric's face.
"All right, as much as I'm glad we talked about this together and that Eric's now feeling a lot better with everyone here, he still needs to rest. We can continue to coddle him when he's home" Jacob announced, seeing that Eric looked tired already.
"Hyungs, thank you for coming and thank you for making me feel better. I'm sorry for making you worried or disappointed at any point of time"
"Hey, enough, it's not your fault," Sangyeon spoke up, "now don't think about anything else. Just focus on getting better" Both Sangyeon and Hyunjae got up and tucked Eric in.
The others took turns hugging Eric.
"We'll be waiting for you at home, all right. Rest well uri maknae" Hyunjae said. Then they all left after bidding goodbyes to Eric and Jacob.
~
"Eric-ah, thank you for not harming yourself," Jacob held Eric's hand, "when I saw you on the bridge, I was so scared. I didn't know what was going on and I thought I failed to help you, my dongsaeng."
"Hyung" Eric interrupted, "I'm sorry for making you worried. I promise you I'm not going to harm myself. I have my hyungs with me now"
Jacob smiled. "Yes, you have us, always have. I'm so proud of you, Eric. I'm sorry for not saying it out to you before this. I'm sorry for not checking on you earlier. I'm so sorry Eric, I really hope you can forgive me."
"Hyung, stop. It's not your fault" Eric got up and pulled Jacob into a hug.
"Thank you hyung, for always taking care of me. Words cannot express how thankful I am for you. I love you hyung" Eric tightened his hug.
"Love you too, Eric" Jacob pulled out from the hug and tucked Eric back in.
"Sleep, Eric."
~
"Welcome Home!" was the first thing Eric heard when he entered the dorm. The hyungs were there waiting for him.
Everyone could see how Eric's smile was from ear to ear. He looked so happy and nobody wanted that to change anytime soon.
The boys spent the rest of the day watching movies after movies. They were all happy to be close with each other. Soon, all of them were falling asleep and Eric heard them saying they love him before he was pulled into dreamland.
~
And if the next day of practice, they had a new choreographer, nobody asked why.
~
yayy eric is finally happy with his hyungss,, hope you enjoyed this fic and i’d appreciate any feedback/comment :)) thank you for reading!!

Part 1 | Part 3
~
"Ohh, is that so? Good job then" Inseong patted his back then parted ways with Eric, heading to SF9 waiting room.
Eric stood frozen, he was happy to be told good job but what does it mean when people didn't even notice him performing. Eric's eyes immediately teared up and he stayed in the restroom for a good 30 minutes before composing himself and got back to the waiting room.
"Eric! Where did you go? Gosh, I was so worried" Jacob placed both his hands on Eric's shoulder.
"Sorry hyung, i had a bad stomach ache just now, that's why it took me long in the toilet" Eric reassured his hyung with another lie. Then Jacob's worry dissipated even though he was partly unsure of the reason given by Eric. But he decided to just drop it.
Then, a staff came in to inform them that they should be going to the studio for the ranking evaluation which announced that The Boyz was in 5th place. It was undeniable that the boys felt down due to the ranking, especially Eric who felt that his best wasn't good enough. Maybe that's why nobody thanked him or told him good job, because he hadn't done a good job.
Eric didn't feel better at all after the results and 2 days after he found out that the show had missed out on taking his fancam.
It had to be that day that they were about to start with the new performance's practice.
~
"Eric! Focus please, we're already ranked as number 5 and you still want to slack off," Hansol scolded Eric after not getting the right move for the dance. "Do you or do you not want The Boyz to succeed? If you do, then put in the same amount of effort that the others put in to make this a success!" Hansol raised his voice and that was the last straw for Eric. His patience for the weeks he endured burst and Eric immediately left the room without saying a word.
"Eric!" Jacob shouted and ran after him but Hansol hyung stopped him, "Let him go, he probably doesn't want to help you all in Kingdom."
"Hyung but-" Jacob wanted to follow Eric and, not the first time, check on Eric but again he was cut off by their choreographer, "let's just continue with our practice, he'll come around."
-
Eric ran and ran, not bothering to even have a slight thought about practice. He didn't even know where he was, suddenly he reached a bridge where there was no one, no vehicle, nothing. Eric collapsed near the ledge of the bridge. Eric sobbed for his life, nobody was there for him to stop it, so he released his emotions that had been pent up for weeks.
‘See even Hansol knows you didn't do much for The Boyz. What you did is nothing in comparison to what your hyungs did’ a voice said in his head.
‘You're just a waste of space’ again the voice in his head tormented.
Eric tried blocking off this voice tormenting him but it kept going on and on about how his efforts in The Boyz are not enough, not seen by others and how he was not good enough to make anyone proud of him.
Eric was too into his head, he didn't realise it started raining. But he didn't care, he stayed there crying again and again until his eyes closed and Eric eventually passed out on the ledge.
~
"Aish, Eric, why are you not answering the phone?" Jacob sighed and tried calling Eric again.
They have been practicing for 4 hours and were given a break but Eric still has yet to come back. Rationally, Jacob hoped Eric went back to the dorm but he was starting to worry when Eric didn't pick up the home phone, because Jacob knew Eric didn't bring his phone with him, after he called numerous times during their break.
"Guys, I'm really worried. I don't think Eric went home," Jacob said, looking at the other boys who were resting against the wall.
"He is a grown up, Jacob." Juyeon said and almost immediately Jacob frowned, "I know he is a grown up but he is only 21 years old, Juyeon, and did you not see his face before storming out? He looked dejected and sad after hearing what Hansol hyung said."
"Yeah, okay but what hyung said is true, he cannot be slacking off-"
"Okay stop this instance!" Jacob stopped Juyeon.
"Do you realise what you're saying? This is Eric we're talking about, he never slacks off, he always puts on his best for The Boyz. Please, as long as I'm here, don't talk about him like that." Jacob turned to Sangyeon, "Another 2 hours and if Eric is not back yet, I'm going to look for him, with or without all of you." Right after, Hansol hyung went into the studio and continued their practice.
As Jacob expected, after 2 and a half hours, Eric was still not back at the studio. "Sangyeon, I'm not staying any longer. i'll meet you back at the dorm" Jacob picked up his bag and went out without saying anything to Hansol hyung, he knew Hansol hyung would get mad but at that point of time all he cared about was Eric.
As soon as Jacob got out of the company building, it was raining cats and dogs. ‘Eric, please, be in the dorm’. Jacob knew he didn't want Eric to be out in the rain but he couldn't be so sure.
Jacob called his manager to pick him up and get him to their dorm.
"Jacob-ah, what's wrong? Why are you alone?" their manager, Jibeom hyung, asked once Jacob got into the van.
"We're not done with practice yet but I wanted to find Eric, make sure he's okay" Jacob told his manager.
"What happened to Eric?" Jibeom hyung was confused. Jacob sighed and explained to their manager what occurred during practice 6 hours ago.
"Poor boy, he doesn't deserve to be talked to like that. Then why are you the only one keen to find him? Why are the rest not coming along?"
"I don't know hyung," Jacob sighed for the upteenth time that day.
"It's okay, I'll get Jiwook to tell the boys their practice will end early today"
Jacob turned to his hyung, relieved at the mention of their co-manager and the decision to end practice early because honestly, he knew it was important that the boys are together after he finds Eric.
~
"Hyung, I apologise on behalf of Jacob. He's just worried that Eric's not back yet, we all are" Sangyeon apologised seeing Hansol hyung's angered expression after Jacob abruptly left.
"We'll just continue without them then-"
"I'm afraid not, the boys will end practice here and head back to the dorm. This is strictly ordered by Jibeom hyung" Jiwook entered, relaying the information, cutting Hansol off from what he wanted to say.
"Boys, pack up. I'll be waiting for you at the lobby. The rest of you may head back and get some rest as well." Then Jiwook left.
Jiwook hyung was not a strict and serious person but his tone was serious enough to know that the situation was not up to debate. So they instantly packed up their belongings and met their co-manager at the lobby before being driven back to their dorm.
"Hyung, is Eric at the dorm?" Sangyeon timidly asked. It was rare to see their co-manager so serious.
Jiwook shook his head, "He's not at the dorm. Jacob and Jibeom hyung are finding him right now."
Hearing this, the rest of the boys couldn't help but be worried for their maknae, especially Sangyeon. ‘Please, don't let anything happen to Eric,’ Sangyeon prayed.
~
"Where could he be?" Jacob asked, looking around at the street from inside the car.
When he arrived at the dorm, he knew Eric was not home, his shoes were not there, the dorm was too quiet and upon checking every corner of the dorm, there was no evidence of Eric being there. He quickly ran back to the van and told Jibeom hyung that Eric was not there.
Jibeom hyung became more worried seeing that the rain was heavy and if Eric was out there in the rain, he might be getting hypothermic.
In an instance, Jibeom drove with Jacob around the area to find Eric.
They have been searching for Eric for about an hour but still no signs of Eric. Jacob's heart was beating so fast, fearing for the safety of his youngest dongsaeng.
1 hour and 30 minutes into the search, Jibeom drove near a bridge where there seems to be no one around but he gave all the credits for Jacob's sharp eyesight when he exclaimed there was someone lying on the ledge of the bridge.
Jacob knew they had to go and help this person even though they were in the midst of searching for Eric. But Jacob didn't expect to see that it was Eric who was lying on the ledge.
"Hyung! It's Eric!" Jacob shouted and ran to Eric only to find his youngest dongsaeng pale, bluish and freezing. Jibeom ran towards them with blankets and soon wrapped Eric with them and picked Eric up, bringing him to the van.
"Eric-ah, wake up please, wake up for hyung, please" Jacob begged, trying to get Eric to wake up but failed to do so. Jacob hugged Eric tightly, not wanting to let his youngest dongsaeng be away from him.
"Jacob, we're here"
Jacob looked up and saw that they were at the hospital. Jibeom helped carry Eric to the emergency room where the doctors and nurses brought Eric to a private treatment room and asked Jibeom and Jacob to wait outside.
"I'm going to call Jiwook and let him know what happen and ask him to tell the others" Jibeom stood up to make a phone call to Jiwook.
~
"All right, thanks hyung. Update me when you have any news" Jiwook ended the call with Jibeom.
He turned towards the members of The Boyz and saw they were looking at him, waiting for any news of their maknae.
Jiwook sighed, "They found him at a bridge. They have a feeling Eric was there ever since he stormed out of practice. Jibeom brought Eric to the hospital to get checked out since he was unconscious. They'll let us know further once the doctors finish checking Eric."
The boys were glad they found Eric but still worried for their maknae's condition.
~
Finally, an hour later, "Sohn Youngjae?" Jacob and Jibeom stood up hearing Eric's name being called.
A doctor, who seemed to be around his thirties, approached the 2 gentlemen.
"I'm Doctor Lee, I'm Youngjae's doctor in-charge. I'm assuming you're his managers?"
Jacob shook his head, "I'm Jacob, his group member. This is Jibeom, he is our manager" Jacob pointed at his manager by his side.
The doctor nodded and continued, "Okay, I understand. So let me explain what's going on with Youngjae. He presented with symptoms of hypothermia when he was brought in. His body temperature was below normal body temp. So we got him warm saline to increase his body temperature. He'll be admitted here until we deemed him fit to go home. Once he's settled, I'll get a nurse to bring you to his private room."
Listening to the doctor's simple explanation, Jacob and Jibeom nodded in understanding and felt the burden lifted from their shoulders, knowing that Eric was going to be okay.
"Thank you, doctor" Jibeom thanked Doctor Lee who waved it off saying it was his job and he wished speed recovery for Eric.
"I'm going to call Jiwook again to update him." Jibeom went to the other side of the hallway to make the phone call.
~
"Boys, Eric's going to be okay but he needs to stay in the hospital for a few days. He was hypothermic. I'll bring you all there tomorrow okay, Eric needs his rest right now" Jiwook told the awaiting members of The Boyz. He could see the relief that washed over the boys, knowing he was going to be okay.
"Boys," Jiwook began, "you need to talk about what happened to cause Eric to leave in the first place. All of you know that Eric is a sunshine, working hard to always prove himself. Hearing what Hansol said would have broken his spirits. You need to make sure Eric knows that his efforts are on par and appreciated. You all need to make sure you know that his efforts are worthy and they contribute to your success as a group. I'll talk to Hansol about his treatment towards Eric. Please, be there for Eric and each other.”
The members listened and nodded to what was said by their co-manager. They realised something was wrong with their maknae now and they vowed to make sure they resolve it once their maknae was better.
~
Jacob and Jibeom entered Eric's room quietly seeing that he was asleep on the bed which made him seem so small.
"Hyung?" Jacob looked up as he was seated on the chair beside Eric's bed.
"Eric-ah, mianhae, did i wake you up?" Jacob caressed Eric's head. Eric shook his head.
"Mianhae hyung, I'm sorry for leaving practice just like that. Are the others angry at me?" Eric spoke softly, fear and exhaustion obvious in his voice.
"Eric-ah, no, they're not angry with you, they're all worried and want to see you soon. But right now, hyung don't want you to think of all that, you need to rest, okay" Jacob caressed his arm.
Soon, Eric fell asleep with the soft lullaby by Jacob.
"Jacob, I'll get going, okay. The doctor gave permission for you to stay with Eric for the period he is here. But you take care of yourself too" Jibeom pat Jacob's shoulder and proceeded to be on his way.
Jacob watched over Eric as he slept, thinking about how long the younger one had been dealing with things alone. Jacob was not stupid, he knew that what Hansol hyung said alone would not cause Eric to break down this way. He had a feeling there was something deeper than what was said during practice. Jacob vowed to help his dongsaeng.

Part 2 | Part 3
~
"Hyung, can I do the backflip stunt?" Eric asked their choreographer, smiling in excitement, when they were told the performance for Kingdom will have a suspended 360° backflip. Eric has been waiting to do such stunts considering the thrill and excitement of it.
All of his members and choreographer turned their head, as quickly as one can imagine, towards Eric. They laughed. "Eric, are you sure? The stunt is quite dangerous and I would rather dance line do it" Hansol hyung, their choreographer, voiced out. Eric's smile faltered hearing his trainer's opinion. However, he was determined to get that spot.
"Hyung, I want to try, really, I can make it work. I was a sports person so I think, no, I know I can do it" Eric reasoned. The others just kept in silence, looking back and forth from their trainer to Eric. After a few minutes of consideration, Hansol hyung finally conceded and allowed Eric to take part in the stunt. Eric's smile was shining through his face.
"Eric," Hansol hyung called out, "you better not mess up the stunt, understand? It's an important part of the performance." Eric nodded, he knew if he messed up and the stunt flop, he was risking the whole team. Eric vowed to make sure it's done perfectly.
The Boyz started their practice, learning the moves for the upcoming performance. A few hours into practice, they started practicing the backflip stunt. It was Eric's first time doing this despite engaging in sports during his younger years.
'Please don't make a fool of yourself, Eric' Eric hoped. His hopes crashed the same way he crashed on the mat after the unstable backflip. He could hear snickers and giggles, Eric knew some came from his hyungs and he couldn't help but feel sad with that fact although Eric knew they always laugh when someone accidentally makes a mistake during practice. But this was different and Eric didn't know why.
Eric got up and tried again with Hyunjae, Juyeon and Jacob supporting him for the flip. This time he managed to land on both feet but unfortunately he was not able to maintain the balance. Luckily no giggle and snickers could be heard. Hansol hyung asked Eric to practice again for another 3 times before continuing with other dance moves.
The timing on the clock showed 1 am when the boys finally announced the end of practice for the day. They all went home and got some rest before continuing practice the next morning.
~
"ERIC!" Hansol hyung shouted when Eric failed to do the backflip again. It was only the 2nd failure after the one yesterday but apparently Hansol hyung was expecting no failures at all. "You call this "You can make it work out"" Hansol hyung air-quoted what Eric said the day before. Eric bowed his head in apology and promised he would practice again until he makes no mistake.
Surprisingly, after the 2nd mistake, Eric managed to hit the stunt perfectly every time they practiced. The smile on Eric's face just showed how proud and happy he was but unfortunately nobody seemed to praise him or even say a simple 'good job' to him. But Eric understood, maybe once they saw he could hit the stunt during the actual performance, they would praise him and be very proud.
However, that wasn't the case at all. After their 2nd round performance in Kingdom, with Eric slaying the stunt with absolute perfection, nobody came to Eric to even give him a pat in the back like they always do. Nobody approached Eric to say 'good job' or mentioned anything about the backflip. 'Were they not satisfied?' Eric wondered.
As they approached their waiting room, Eric pulled Sunwoo to the side. "Sunwoo, did I do something wrong?" Eric asked, causing Sunwoo to frown in confusion. "What do you mean?" Sunwoo asked him back.
Eric sighed. He told Sunwoo to just forget what he asked and walked into the waiting room before sitting at the end of the couch, beside Kevin. Eric felt like crying but strongly fought against the tears, he was not going to cry in front of his hyungs. He diverted his focus to other groups' performances but it was hard trying to focus on something when your mind is thinking of something else.
"Eric, let's go. We need to get to the studio for ranking evaluation" Eric heard Kevin talking to him, breaking him off his stupor. How long had he been zoning out?
Eric's body operated on auto, feet bringing him to the studio, where he sat beside Haknyeon. As they announced the ranking, Eric knew he contributed to the drop in ranking for The Boyz. 3rd place was not a bad ranking but it's not satisfying for the boys as they aimed 1st for every round.
Eric walked by himself as they retreated to their waiting room to get their belongings.
"Good job everyone, you have done a great job today with the amazing dance and vocals. It's okay that we got 3rd, although it's not satisfying but at least we enjoyed the performance." Sangyeon spoke when they got settled in the waiting room. Not the first time that day that Eric felt the sting of omission. He knew that the leader also intended the good job to him but it would have been great to hear a specific praise or feedback, even, for him. But Eric knew he couldn't hold it against his hyungs, who have been putting in a lot of effort in making the performance a success. His contribution was nothing compared to theirs. So, Eric just kept quiet about the sting of not being recognised for the stunt he did because that's who Eric is.
But even the most patient person in the world has a limit.
~
O Sole Mio might be the song Eric disliked the most in his life. No offence to SF9 but performing this song had Eric in so much stress, not that he did much for the performance itself.
Eric retreated to the dance studio feeling dejected as ever. The rap he wrote for his part in the 3rd Kingdom performance was cut from 6 lines to 3 lines only. His lines were the least among the other 10 members. He knew there was no doubt he was going to be shone over by his hyungs. Eric personally didn't mind it at all but after the last performance, he was determined to shine together with his hyungs and get the recognition he thought he deserved.
"Yah Eric-ah! What are you daydreaming about?" Sunwoo approached him and Eric saw his hyungs all entered the dance studio. Eric gave a smile that he knew didn't reach his ears like it normally does, and just said, "Nothing."
"All right, if it's nothing then let's get to practice" Sunwoo grabbed Eric's arm and pulled him up. Eric threw himself into the dance practice to forget about what he had been thinking about before.
Nobody seemed to notice Eric's unusual and dejected demeanor. Nobody ought to ask if he was feeling okay. Nobody talked to him aside from giving instruction on how the dance moves are.
Once practice ended at 1 am , Eric stormed off to the toilet. He couldn't stop the tears from running down his cheeks. Eric was having a hard time to hold himself together but after 10 minutes, the tears stopped and he was calmed enough to come out of the toilet. It was then Eric noticed nobody ran after him, not that Eric expected or wanted them to. And again, he felt the sting of not being seen by his hyungs.
As Eric walked towards the dance studio, he thought about what he did to make his hyungs act this way towards him. They usually notice whenever Eric was feeling down but somehow after Kingdom started, they also started acting differently. Eric didn't want to hover his hyungs nor did he want to make his hyungs feel smothered with his constant wants to be together with them but that's who Eric is and it had never been an issue. Or has it always been? Eric's eyes teared up again but he composed himself, continuing the journey back to the studio just to be shocked that everyone including their back-up dancers had left.
Eric dropped to the floor and just looked around the empty room. "They really left me," Eric said to himself. Eric reached for his phone and sent a quick text to his manager and Sangyeon, informing them he was still at the company.
Not even a minute after he sent the text,
Sangyeon replied : I thought you were going to stay a little longer to practice.
Eric froze. Did his hyung want him to practice more? He didn't realise it was the case.
Eric shook himself out of his dazed state and replied back : Yeah hyung, I did. Maybe I forgot just now. I'll get to it then. Sorry to bother you hyung.
He then texted his manager to inform him that he was staying longer to practice, which his manager replied with a thumbs up.
Eric stood and started dancing, smoothing his moves over and over again. He didn't notice just how long he had been in the room practicing until his alarm rang, showing it was nearing 5 am. He had been there for about 4 hours. Eric needed to get home to have at least some rest since they had practice at 7 am but as he slide down the wall and collapsed on the floor, Eric started to feel the disappointment of the past weeks and the exhaustion creeping in making him lost his control and just cried, sobbing there on the dance floor.
It was a good 1 hour before Eric stopped crying and got himself up slowly. He grabbed his bag and went to the showers to clean himself up before going to his studio room to get some shut-eye before another round of practice with the others.
~
Jacob woke up thanks to his alarm blaring beside his bed. Being an early riser, Jacob went straight to the bathroom and got himself ready for practice. Once he was ready and dressed, Jacob went straight to New and Eric's shared bedroom to check on the youngest. He had noticed that their maknae has not been himself, with the lack of smiles, jokes and bright personality. But checking on the maknae had slipped off Jacob's mind as he was caught up with practices and was too exhausted every time he wanted to check on Eric.
Upon entering the room, Jacob saw that Eric's bed was untouched. There was no evidence that someone slept in the bed the night before. Jacob ran back to his shared room with Sangyeon, worry evident on his face making Sangyeon worried too.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Sangyeon prompted. "Eric, Eric's not here. His bed was untouched, Sangyeon," Jacob explained in a rush, wanting to just find his dongsaeng and make sure he was okay.
Sangyeon's worried expression smoothed out, then he set out to explain that Eric was at the company for extra practice. Jacob looked at Sangyeom in shock, "You let him stay longer to practice? Sangyeon! All of us are tired and Eric is too, you should have made him come home to rest. We have practice at 7 and he won't have enough time to rest!" Sangyeon winced at Jacob's tone of voice, knowing that Jacob was worried about their maknae.
"All right, tonight I'll make sure he comes and gets enough rest" Sangyeon persuaded Jacob and got ready for practice. All 10 members headed out for practice only to find Eric already practicing in the dance studio, making Jacob think if Eric got any sleep at all.
~
Eric tried falling asleep but to no avail. His mind kept thinking about why nobody talked about the backflip, why his rap got cut out, why he is dancing on the sides. Why was he here if nothing he did contributed to the success of the team. Failing to sleep, Eric got up and went to the dance studio, starting the practice before his hyungs and choreographer arrived.
As he was dancing, Eric heard the door open and came in his hyungs who looked better as they got their well-deserved rest even if it's not long.
"Eric-ah, did you get some sleep?" Jacob approached the poor boy.
"Yes hyung, i was too tired to go home so i slept in the music studio room." Eric lied, he was glad and happy his hyung was talking to him about things other than practice but he still didn't want to worry or burden them.
"Okay then-" before Jacob could finish, Hansol hyung entered and quickly commenced the practice which ended 12 hours later. Sangyeon ensured all members are accounted for when getting back.
Their routine continued until the day of the performance which Eric dreaded all the way.
~
"Good job everyone" The Boyz exclaimed as they finished performing "O Sole Mio". The performance was beautiful and Eric was proud he did his part with no mistakes and up to his expectations. Eric was practically beaming as they successfully performed SF9's song even though the journey to it was exhausting and filled with sadness.
Eric bumped into Inseong as he was going to the restroom. "Eric-ah, did you perform just now?" Inseong asked. "Yes hyung, I did. I did a rap part after Juyeon hyung's break dance in the cage," Eric didn't see this coming, at all. Was his part so little that it went unnoticed?

i can't take it anymore
warnings : very heavy angst, mentions of suicide (if it triggers you, please do not read this okayy)
a/n: hehe another original fiction from me,, this is super angsty (pleasee read the warnings) soo read at your own descretion :)) let me know what you think!
Luna took a seat on the ledge of the bridge, her leg touching Alayna's. She clasped Alayna's hand in hers and stared at the void in front of them.
"Luna," Alayna croaked, tears still flowing down, "I can't do this anymore. The world is better without me, you are better without me pulling you down. Let me leave, Luna"
Alayna felt her best friend tightened her grip.
"Princess," Alayna turned, hearing the nickname that fell easily between Luna's lips,"it's fine to feel that way, you are entitled to your emotions, you wanna leave this world? Let's do it together then, you have me now and forever."
Alayna stared at Luna for a while. Then, she started sobbing again.
Luna turned and got off the ledge before pulling Alayna with her. Both girls dropped on the pavement where Luna held Alayna in her arms, giving her whatever comfort Luna could offer to her distraught friend.
The two sat there for who knows how long before a nice stranger approached, asking them if they needed help. Luna smiled but shook her head, letting the lady know that she got it handled.
"Alayna, let's go home and rest. Let me take care of you. I promise I'll be with you every step of the way." Alayna kept quiet but allowed Luna to lift her up.
Slowly, the two made their way back to their dorm.
Alayna immediately laid down on her bed and closed her eyes, willing herself to imagine that she's gone from the world. But, as she felt Luna laying next to her, reality set in that her best friend once again saved her.
"Princess, I just want to let you know that I would not be better without you. We'll get through this together, okay. I'll be here no matter what, I promise." Luna vowed to make sure both of them get through it together.
Alayna drifted to the world of dreams listening to Luna humming some soothing songs. Maybe it would not be bad to stay with Luna with her.
2 weeks later
Luna sat on the beach, looking at the waves crashing in the sea. The weather was nice to be out, to have a stroll by the beach or at the park, to do some outdoor activities or anything, to be honest.
Alayna loved the beach. According to her, it was the only place that gave her serenity, calmness and peace. The sound of the waves washed away her worries for a short while.
It would really be nice if Alayna was there with Luna.
A tear slipped down from Luna's eye. "Alayna," she muttered.
Alayna, her best friend since they were both 3 years old, was gone.
Alayna was gone.
More tears flowed as Luna remembered the moment, just 5 days earlier, when she entered their dorm room and discovered Alayna's body on the cold floor of their bathroom. She barely remembered what happened after that, all she knew was the paramedics confirming that her best friend was gone.
2 days later, she was cremated. Now, her ashes were in the sea. Alayna always reminded Luna that she would want her ashes to be given away to the sea, where she found peace amidst the chaos in the world.
Luna looked to her side where a letter sat on the sand. She couldn't bear to open the letter but she knew Alayna would be mad if she didn't read her letter.
As she reached out for the letter, Luna let out a quiet chuckle as she remembered how Alayna always throws a fit when Luna didn't read her messages or letters that she wrote.
Luna took a deep breath before letting her eyes read the last letter Alayna wrote for her.
To my dearest best friend whom I love to the moon and back,
I believe that when you read this letter, I'm not here anymore. I'm sorry Luna, I really am. I know you want us to get through it together and for a second, I believe that we could. But Luna, I really couldn't take it anymore. My whole being is already broken and there's no fixing it in any way whatsoever.
Don't blame yourself Luna. You are not the cause nor a factor in what happened. In fact, I want to thank you for all the things you've done for me. Nothing could ever repay your deeds and kindness towards me. I am forever grateful for having you in my life. Thank you for existing and continue existing for me, Luna.
I know it is selfish of me but please Luna, don't throw your life away for me. I love you Luna so please, as my last dying wish, I want you to continue living. Find a future for yourself and be happy for yourself and that would make me happy.
I'm sorry for leaving you Luna. Forgive me but this is the end of my story in this world.
I'll see you again soon my moon.
Forever love,
Alayna
Luna folded the letter back to its original form and placed it back in the envelope. She let herself cry in sadness, grieving over the loss of her beloved friend who was also a sister she never had.
As the light of the day dimmed, Luna was wiping her tears and looked up to the sky.
"I love you to the moon and back, Alayna. Rest well my dearest and I'll see you soon, my princess"
Luna then gathered her belongings and got up. She slowly made her way back to her home with a promise that she would make Alayna happy up there by accepting and moving on with her life without her best friend being physically there for her.
Alayna can finally rest and Luna was glad for that.

Danger
a/n : a very short ending chapter, mostly with fluff amd mother-henning from OC and other members~
Chapter 4
"Kids, we're back" Sangyeon's voice echoed throughout the dorm, announcing their presence.
"Eric!!" They all shouted once they saw the youngest one standing in the living room.
"Hey, let's let him sit down first all right" Jacob told everyone to take it easy with Eric.
Once Eric was settled on the sofa, everyone started bombarding him with questions.
"Hey, calm down. Eric will be fine, he broke his rib and sustained a hairline fracture to his wrist. He needs to take it easy for the next few weeks but he will be fine" Sangyeon explained calmly to the seemingly worried boys.
"Eric, if this happens again, don't hesitate to let us know okay, we all love you" Hyunjae spoke and everyone nodded in agreement with what he said.
"And, don't think that you are bad at performing arasso, you are very good at what you do" Q said, with an encouraging smile.
Eric looked at everyone. Sangyeon hyung, Jacob hyung, Younghoon hyung, Hyunjae hyung, Juyeon hyung, Kevin hyung, New hyung, Q hyung, Haknyeon hyung and Sunwoo. All faces decorated with smiles that never fails to make Eric feel at ease.
"Thank you hyungs, that means a lot to me. I'm sorry for making you worry"
"Yah, stop saying sorry" Sunwoo lightly punched Eric's thigh.
Everyone erupted in laughter.
The sound of the doorbell interrupted their movie marathon.
"That should be Haewon noona" Sangyeon got up and opened the door to reveal Haewon who was already changed out of her scrubs.
"I'm sure all of you have not eaten so i've brought dinner for everyone" Haewon let herself in and went to their kitchen and placed the food on the table.
"You didn't have to do that noona, but thank you so much" Sangyeon thanked Haewon for the trouble of bringing dinner for the boys.
"It's nothing Sangyeon ah, i'm more than happy to" Haewon opened up the food with the help of Sangyeon and Haknyeon who just entered the kitchen. The rest of them accompanied Eric in the living room and set up the table outside so that everyone could eat together.
Once everything was done, everyone sat together in the living room.
"Thank noona for buying these food for us" everyone thanked Haewon for the dinner.
Haewon laughed, "No worries, now let's eat! Enjoy your food and eat well".
The rest of the night was spent with a movie marathon which Haewon joined for a few hours before she helped Eric with changing his bandage and with his medication.
"All right, all done now" Haewon smiled at Eric.
"Youngjae ah, please take it easy okay" Haewon reminded him for the upteenth time.
"Yes noona, i will, please calm down all right" Eric returned her smile.
"I know, and I know you have your hyungs to take care of you. I'll leave you to them okay, I trust them" Haewon caressed Eric's cheek.
"All right, i better get going, i have a morning shift tomorrow" Haewon hugged Eric before bidding goodbyes with Eric and the rest of the boys in the living room.
In the end, they decided to sleep together in the living room.
Eric was in the middle with Juyeon and Jacob next to him. The other members layed down next to each other as well.
"Good night everyone, sleep well" Sangyeon said.
Eric felt at ease. He was able to let go of his worries and go to sleep peacefully, knowing that he has his hyungs to look out for him. He vowed to look after them as well.
"Good night Eric, remember we always love you" Juyeon reminded like how Eric always remind deobis.
Eric smiled before going to dreamland.
that's the end of Danger ~~ hope you enjoyed,, no harm intended to eric or the boyz (i love angst so heh) let me know what yall think of this fic ~

Danger
a/n : this chapter contains medical terms (i'm not fluent in this field hence apologies if there are any mistakes)~ oooh and there is a special appearance of an OC here 😊
Chapter 3
Their Danger performance ended without any mistakes and everyone was proud of the wonderful stage.
"Good job everyone!" The Boyz thanked the team, staff and backup dancers for the great job done to make the performance a success.
Eric exited the studio first and headed towards their waiting room. Severe pain was shooting through his wrist, shoulder and back.
As soon as he entered the room, he collapsed on the couch.
He was so focused on trying to block out the pain, he didn't notice the others coming in the room.
"Eric, are you okay?" Juyeon sat next to him.
"Yes, i'm just tired" Eric answered simply, having no energy to talk.
They were back in the studio for the result announcement. Eric swore he just wanted to get back home and down all the painkillers.
Right then, they were about to announce the first place.
"1st place ... The Boyz! Congratulations!" The Boyz were happy and some teared up.
Eric couldn't help but to cry. The pain was forgotten at the moment as they once again secured first place.
"Thank you very much everyone, we will continue to work hard and show better performances" every member of The Boyz bowed, thanking everyone.
As they entered the dorm, Eric made a beeline to his room and grabbed his towel as well as his clothes before going to shower.
Earlier, in their car, Eric had asked if he could shower first as he was very tired. The rest just agreed.
Eric noticed, in the shower, there were bruises along the right side of his back, around his ribs. 'Aish, this is even worse than i thought'.
Eric took a quick shower and went to his shared room. As soon as his head hit the pillow, he was asleep.
About an hour later, New went in to get Eric for dinner.
"Eric wake up, dinner's ready" New shook Eric's body, trying to get him to wake up.
Eric's eyes opened and he got up, too quickly.
"Ahh!" Eric knew something was very wrong as he got up. He grabbed his right side instantly, feeling pain shooting up the side.
"Eric ah, what's wrong?" New was worried.
Eric didn't care anymore, he was in so much pain he thought he could pass out there and then.
"Hyung, my hand and side hurt so badly" Eric teared up in pain.
"Ohmy, i'll get Sangyeon and Jacob hyung" New ran out to get said hyungs.
He could hear commotions outside of the room.
Suddenly, Sangyeon was crouching in front of him. "Eric ah, what happened?" Sangyeon was trying to stay calm although he was definitely worried about their maknae.
"My hand and side hurts so badly, hyung" Eric repeated what he said to New.
"I know but what happened?" Sangyeon wanted to know what resulted in his maknae getting injured.
"I got hurt during practice for our 90 seconds performance" Eric was scared his hyungs would get angry with him.
"What?" Eric heard Juyeon exclaim. He hadn't noticed that everyone was now in the room.
"Why didn't you tell us, Eric? We could have brought you to see a doctor" Sangyeon said.
Eric burst into tears. Juyeon didn't hesitate to sit next to him and comfort Eric.
"I'm sorry hyungs, i didn't mean to worry any of you, i - i just didn't want to burden anyone and i didn't want to stop our performance" Eric was sobbing.
Everyone softened at his words.
"Hey, it's okay, it's not your fault. We're all just worried about you. Don't cry, okay, we're not mad or angry with you" Juyeon spoke softly, hoping that Eric would calm down.
"All right, i'll call Bongpal hyung and let him know we need to bring Eric to the hospital. Jacob, you call Haewon noona and tell her we're bringing Eric to the hospital." Sangyeon then left the room.
Hearing his sister's name, Eric looked up at Jacob. Jacob smiled and proceeded to call Eric's sister.
Jacob : "Yeoboseyo, noona, its me Jacob"
Haewon : "Oh yeoboseyo, Jacob ah"
Jacob : "Noona, are you working?"
Haewon : "Yes I am, why?"
Jacob : "Eric got hurt and we're going to bring him to the hospital"
Haewon : "Ohmy, all right, i'll prepare my team, you guys just come all right"
Jacob : "Arasso noona, gomawo"
Their manager came about 20 minutes later and brought Eric to the hospital with Sangyeon, Jacob and Juyeon accompanying the maknae.
As they arrived at the hospital, Juyeon helped Eric out of the car and went inside where they saw Haewon waiting.
"All right, let go in treatment room 1" Haewon led the way.
Juyeon helped Eric onto the gurney. As he settled, Haewon started examining him.
"All right, can you tell me what happened Youngjae ah" Haewon asked.
"I twisted my wrist during practice for our 90 seconds performance and fell" Eric knew he couldn't lie to his sister.
"That was a few weeks back right?", Eric nodded. Haewon knew her brother.
"All right, we'll take an x-ray of your wrist, shoulder and chest. From what I see, you might have a broken rib, which is why you're in a lot of pain." Haewon kept her sweet smile while typing on her tab to book for an x-ray.
A couple of minutes later, Haewon and a nurse, Jiwook, brought Eric up for x-ray while the rest of them were ushered to the private waiting area meant for idols.
Eric went down 30 minutes later and was settled in a room. Haewon took Sangyeon, Jacob and Juyeon to Eric's room.
"Hey Eric, how are you feeling?" Juyeon asked as they entered.
Juyeon took the place by Eric's right side while Sangyeon by his left side and Jacob near his feet.
"All right, i'll leave you guys now, i'll come back later with the results okay" Haewon exited the room after making sure Eric was going to be fine.
"I'm feeling much better now, with the medication, there's not much pain as before" Eric smiled, seemingly better than he was before coming to the hospital.
"Eric, we're not angry with you okay but why did you hide it from us? We could have helped you" Sangyeon rubbed his arm comfortingly.
Eric remained quiet.
"Gosh, you were already injured while doing Danger. So when you accidentally dropped Sunwoo, it was because your hand was hurting, wasn't it?" The sudden realisation made everyone in the room, except Eric, shivered. Eric solemnly nodded.
"Oh Eric, Donggu hyung even scolded you" Jacob was sad knowing that Eric got scolded for something that wasn't his fault.
"Hyungs, i'm really sorry for getting injured, i really didn't want to trouble anyone. That's why I didn't tell anyone. I know how much this show means to us so i don't want to ruin it for you guys.." Eric sighed.
"Youngjae ah" Eric looked at Juyeon.
"You're our maknae, our dongsaeng. It's our job to look after you, so don't think it's a burden or trouble for us. You're not going to get scolded if you tell us you're hurt, arasso. We just don't want you being in more pain than you already are" Juyeon calmly explained.
"I know, and i'm really sorry hyungs-"
"Yah, stop apologising, it's not your fault. Now let's just focus on your recovery, okay" Sangyeon smiled.
"All right, I have the results with me," Haewon announced as she entered Eric's room a few hours later.
"As I've suspected earlier, you in fact have broken your rib. And that's the only thing that is actually broken. Your left wrist only sustained a hairline fracture. Other than that, you are okay, thank goodness" the smile never leaving Haewon even as she told her brother of the extent of his injuries.
"Noona, can I still perform?" Eric didn't want to back away from performing.
Haewon laughed.
"Yah, you really want to perform while having these injuries?"
"Yes noona, i'm okay"
Haewon laughed again before concern washed over her face, "Youngjae ah, you have a broken rib which could shift and puncture your lung if you do vigorous activities. Your hand needs to rest to heal fully."
"I don't want to stop you from performing but I'm not allowing you to do hard dances that require you to carry anyone or need you to move your chest a lot. None of that. If you still insist on performing, then go ahead, but simple dances only. Understand?" Haewon hoped Eric would take it easy.
"Arasso noona, i understand" Eric complied.
"Good, now I'll bandage your chest to support your rib so that it doesn't shift around. I'll give you a wrist splint for your wrist. I've also prescribed you pain medication and cream for your swelling."
"Do you want to stay or wait outside while I bandage his chest?" Haewon turned her attention to the other occupants of the room.
"We'll stay, if that's all right, so we could learn how to do it too, in case Eric needs our help" Sangyeon answered.
"Arasso, no worries, you may"
As Haewon finished bandaging Eric, Jiwook came in with the wrist splint and medication.
Haewon helped Eric put on the splint and gave instruction to both Eric and the boys on the things they need to do to promote the healing process.
Jiwook came in again with the discharge papers to which Sangyeon signed.
"Okay, now we're all done, you may all go back. Please take it easy Youngjae, and all of you, arasso" Haewon's concern was all over her face, unlike just now when her expression was calm.
"I'll come and see you after my shift arasso" Haewon told the 4 boys in the room.
"All right noona, just tell us when you're on your way" Sangyeon told Haewon before going out to call the manager to pick them up.
"You guys take care of him for me all right" Haewon turned to both Juyeon and Jacob and saw them nodding their heads.
"Of course we will noona, don't worry" Jacob promised.
"Arasso, i'll have to get back to work, annyeong" Haewon left the room after giving Eric a hug and a kiss on the forehead.
Bongpal came half an hour later and took the boys back to their dorm.
"Eric ah, take care and get well soon all right, take it easy for the next few weeks and give your body time to heal, arasso" Bongpal looked at Eric and smiled seeing the maknae of the group.
"You boys take care of him all right" Bongpal reminded Sangyeon, Jacob and Juyeon before driving off to the company building.
"All right let's go up" Sangyeon walked first.
Juyeon was by Eric's side all the time and held his arm, offering support for Eric.

Danger
Chapter 2
To say Eric was nervous was an understatement. He was terrified he was going to mess up the dance with his injured wrist. 'Ani, I can do this,' Eric tried reassuring himself.
The performance ended smoothly, although Sunwoo was not able to pull his sword out.
Everyone went back to their seats.
Eric was smiling, happy he managed to do his part with Sangyeon well. But it had caused his wrist to become worse than it already was. Eric was in so much pain, he couldn't focus on the next performance.
It was time to announce the result. The Boyz were nervous and scared to be ranked below 4.
"1st place goes to ... The Boyz!" Everyone was surprised.
"Kamsahamnida" The members of The Boyz bowed, thanking the others as they achieved first place.
That night, Eric was restless. The pain in wrist was becoming worse and the pain in his right side has spread to his back.
Eric wanted to tell his hyungs but he didn't want to cause inconvenience to anyone.
Eric told himself to power through the pain and go on with practices for their next performance.
The rest of the week was excruciating for Eric. He had the roles of catching Sunwoo with Kevin and a step for Sunwoo and Q above their main dance.
Eric's wrist, shoulder and the right side of his chest hadn't had the chance to heal as he was going through practice over and over again.
He could not burden his hyungs with his injuries. He could not ruin this performance.
The practice they had 2 days before the stage had not ended well.
Thud, and everyone's attention went to Kevin, Eric and Sunwoo, who was on the floor.
"Sunwoo, mianhae, i'm sorry i couldn't catch you" Eric helped Sunwoo up.
"It's okay" Sunwoo patted Eric's shoulder. The wince from Eric didn't go unnoticed by Sunwoo.
"Yah! Eric! Again?! You messed up again?! You do know the performance is in 2 days right?!" Everyone was shocked seeing their trainer so angry.
"I'm very sorry, hyungnim, i'll work harder" Eric apologised and hanged his head down.
"You better!! Now let's start again from the first!" Donggu hyung was tired and wanted to get the practice done and over with.
"Sunwoo ah, gwenchana?" Kevin asked Sunwoo, concerned if his member was hurt.
"Yes, i'm all right hyung" Sunwoo smiled, reassuring both Kevin and Eric.
Sunwoo was not hurt but he was concerned about Eric.
As soon as practice ended, Eric was approached by Donggu hyung.
"Eric! If you think you're not up for the dance, then tell me! I don't want you to ruin this performance just because you don't feel like doing it! Do you understand?!" It was apparent that Donggu hyung was still mad at Eric.
"Mianhae hyung, i can do it, please let me do it, i promise not to ruin the performance" Eric apologised again.
"Make sure you don't!" Donggu hyung proceeded to leave.
"Eric ah, don't worry, you'll do well" Juyeon reassured Eric so he wouldn't feel so down. The rest voiced their agreement too.
Eric just smiled and packed his stuff. Sunwoo approached him, "Eric, are you okay? Are you hurt?"
"Yeah, i'm all right and no i'm not hurt, why do you ask?" Eric hoped he didn't spill anything out.
"Just now, when I tapped your shoulder, you seemed to wince, are you sure you're okay?"
"Yes, i'm all right, just a muscle cramp but i'm fine now, don't worry" while Eric was glad someone was concerned, he really didn't want to burden anyone.

Danger
a/n : so, this is an old work of mine but i just decided to publish it hehe so enjoy ~~
Chapter 1
It was 2 days before they had to perform a 90 seconds performance for the first episode of Road to Kingdom. Every member of The Boyz was working hard to pull off the hard choreography.
"All right, lets get it from the top!" ushered their choreographer, Donggu.
Everything went smoothly, until Eric's part where he had to spin around on with Kevin's back as his support. Eric failed to balance himself and fell to the ground very hard.
"Yah! What are you doing?!" Donggu shouted seeing Eric on the floor. "You are going to perform this in 2 days! No one can afford to make any mistakes! Understood?!"
"Mianhae, i'm really sorry" Eric apologised with his head down. He didn't want to see the fury in their trainer's eyes.
"Again! From the top!"
Soft whines could be heard as they had to practice from the start.
"Gwenchana?" Sangyeon asked quietly to which Eric just nodded and smiled. Both of them refocused upon hearing the start of the song.
Fortunately, Eric did his part correctly albeit the pain in his wrist and right side.
They finished the dance smoothly and were able to end practice that day.
"Good job everyone! Thank you very much!" They thanked the staff and trainers before changing to their casual clothes.
———————————
While changing, Eric noticed his left wrist was swollen and bruised as with the back of his right shoulder and along his chest. 'Aigoo, what am I going to do now?' he thought to himself.
'I can't tell the hyungs, they're going to be mad if i mess up this performance' Eric knew he had to keep it to himself and continue with the performance so as to not upset the rest.
"Eric! Palli! We all want to go home" Eric heard New calling him. He didn't realise he took such a long time changing his clothes.
"Mianhae hyungs" Eric apologised once he got out.
"It's all right, let's go now" Sangyeon smiled and ushered everyone to the cars.
Once everyone settled in, their drivers went ahead and drove to their dorm.
"Youngjae ah, what happened just now? How did you end up on the floor?" Juyeon voiced his concern to the person sitting next to him.
"I just lost my balance hyung, sorry about that" Eric smiled sheepishly.
"Ahh, arasso, it's okay, no apologies needed" Juyeon patted his head.
The rest of the journey was filled with silence as everyone was exhausted by the constant practice.
Upon arriving, everyone thanked their driver and headed up to their dorm.
Eric went straight to his shared room with New and dropped to the floor.
His wrist and right side were throbbing. He wanted to shower fast and go to sleep but they have an order of who showers first.
Eric waited until it was his turn to shower. By the time he was finished, every one of his hyungs had already gone to their rooms.
As he was still in pain, Eric went to their cabinet and took some painkillers before going to bed.
Eric hoped the pain would get better the next day.
———————————
The blaring alarm of his clock woke Eric up from his slumber. The pain in his wrist and right side was still present and he groaned, knowing that he needed to get through the day's practice with the pain.
Eric got up and went straight to get a shower before getting in his practice clothes. They had practice early so they could get enough rest later in the evening.
As he sat back in his bed, the rest of his members had already risen up and were getting ready themselves.
Once everyone was ready, they all proceeded to practice which ended fairly well.
They headed back home to get sufficient rest before their performance the next day.

This Feeling
Words : 1,165
Warnings : mentions of panic attack, phobia of height and water
Seeing the bamboo bridge made me feel queasy. My phobia of water and height told me not to join them crossing over the bridge but I had to fight this fear.
Nathan had already paid the fee for me; I can't waste his money for nothing.
Braving myself up, I held Hana's hand like my life depended on it and walked together on the bridge.
"Hey, everything's gonna be all right" Hana reassured me time after time. I kept my smile and just looked at the bamboos lined up cross over one another.
As we got further from land, my breathing started to become erratic.
"Hazel, hey calm down all right" Hana knew that i was about to have a breakdown.
The creaking of the bamboo and people who walked, ran and even jumped just made everything worse.
I noticed that we stopped for a while. I took the chance and tried calming myself down. Thankfully it worked and I gave Hana the thumbs up, continuing our journey on the bridge.
After what seemed like so long, we finally reached the centre.
Standing bravely for a group picture, I felt as though something was going to happen. I shrugged the feeling and headed back towards the land; already set in mind not to continue until the end.
"Sherin, help me take a picture please, thanks" Hana asked.
I looked at her with my eyes wide open. "You go ahead first," Hana asked me not to wait for her. Shit.
Braving myself, I walked slowly.
The creaking sounds were so frightening. 'Hazel it's okay everything's okay'.
I spoke too soon. Out of the blue, I felt my body fly to my right and hit the cold water. Luckily, my senses worked fast and I instantly grabbed one of the bamboo poles as tightly as I could.
Within seconds I saw a familiar pair of footwear within eye level. Ryder.
"Hazel! Hang on!" Ryder tried keeping a calm face but I could see in his eyes; the worry and concern he had. I just managed to nod before focusing on my grip.
The water kept flowing, pushing my body together.
"Ryder, please help" I was having difficulty keeping myself firmly on the grip of the bamboo pole.
"Give me your hand" Ryder reached his arm towards me.
Taking a deep breath, I tried reaching his arm at first but failed.
The second time failed. I was about to give up but had to try for the last time.
I felt my hand touch his arm. Success.
Ryder pulled me up and I felt my body touch the bridge. I was so thankful.
"Hey, come let's get you to the land" Ryder helped me on my feet and held my arm to keep me steady.
"It's all right, its not your fault '' I smiled at his effort in comforting me.
"Thanks Ryder"
As soon as my feet touched the ground, Nathan and Hana came; hugging me so tight I thought my ribs could break.
The hug came to a stop and I felt warm instead of the shivering coldness I felt since after I was pulled up.
I saw that a jacket was already placed over me.
My ears suddenly perked up to someone saying something. "Attention seeker, everyone was fine on the bridge. If she knew she's scared, why walk on it in the first place" The voice was not foreign to me. It was Christina.
"Let's go back to the hotel, wash up and then go out for dinner" Ryder said and took the lead on the walk back to our bus.
Upon entering my room, I went straight to the bathroom and took a long hot bath; hopefully to calm myself down after what happened.
About an hour later, I heard a knock on the door and a soft voice calling my name.
I opened it to see a smiling Nathan waiting ever so patiently for me.
"Hey, let's go for dinner. '' He told me that everyone was already waiting.
I took my belongings and walked out, went to the lobby with Nathan.
All of us boarded the bus and Ryder took a seat in front of me.
"Are you all right?"
"Yeah i'm okay, i just think i'm not going to cross the bridge for a long time" i laughed answering his concern.
I was grateful for the concern but I hate that people see it as seeking attention.
"You know where to find me if you need someone to talk to" Ryder made sure I knew I could talk to him.
I didn't have the appetite to eat. I could feel my friends looking at me as I ate very little.
After finishing dinner, I got up and left the place to take a short walk. Little did I know someone followed me for the walk.
I felt the presence of someone as I stopped by the side of the river. The same river I fell into.
"Hazel, what's wrong?" Ryder was the one who followed.
"Nothing" i replied short
We stayed in silence for quite some time before he spoke again.
"Let the problem out of your chest" Ryder came near me.
I sighed.
Ryder placed an arm over my shoulder.
"Hazel, it's okay. It's not your fault" Ryder kept saying it until I felt an emotion burst in me.
"That's what everybody said. But it's not. It's exactly my fault. I shouldn't have gone on the bridge in the first place. I triggered my own freaking phobia. I was careless, I didn't see my left and right. So yes it's my own fault that this happened!" I looked at him; my tears slided its way down my cheeks seeing the sincere concern and care he had through his eyes.
Before I knew it, I was pulled into a warm embrace of comfort.
"Hazel, come on, you just wanted to overcome your fear. It's not wrong and you couldn't have known that you were going to fall off the bridge. Someone pushed you so its their fault, not yours. You are definitely not seeking attention. Don't listen and take what others say to heart. You have Hana, Nathan, and everyone else. And you have me" Ryder put his hands on both my arms.
"We all care for you, Hazel. So don't keep your problems by yourself and don't keep blaming yourself for something that is not your fault. I don't like seeing you sad. Share with us all right, you'll feel better" Ryder hugged me once again.
"Thank you Ry, thank you so much" I could only thank him and relax in his warm embrace.
Ryder and I were in each other's arms for a few moments before we decided to go back to the hotel; as everyone else has gone back.
As we were walking back, Ryder stopped.
"I'll take care of you Hazel, don't worry," Ryder promised and I smiled. I trust him.
He was a great man.
a/n : this is my first posted work (but not my first fic) so it'd be very great to receive some love for it :)) enjoy this original work of mine hehe ~~
