Do other descendants of Finwë have that terrifying "my fëa is radiating through my hröa" Galadriel mode?..

Because I want Finrod to suddenly turn into something resembling Sauron right in front of Beren. It would take all his remaining strength, but he would kill the wolf.

Also I want Maedhros fighting in Dagor Bragollach, shining, his scars black, his right arm brought back to existence in the white fiery form. Remember the army of the Dead in the LoTR? Maedhros would look like them, and NO WONDER orcs fled before him.

Would Finwë himself turn into that form while standing against Morgoth? Would Eärendil constantly look like that because of the Silmarill? I have no idea, but I genuinely want it to be real.

This is a shitpost, but like... On a shitpost level, I feel like Elrond's understanding of Arda is as follows:

Anyone who is an adult by the end of the First Age is A Parent, and if they pat his head he might start crying unprompted because he has some unresolved childhood trauma.

People born in the the Second Age are friends!!!! He loves them a normal amount!!!!!!! Would they like to stay for dinner? Would they like to stay forever? He misses Elros so much. Did he say that last part out loud?

People born in the Third Age are Elrond's own children who he's birthed himself. He loves them so much. He'll always there for advice and hugs. He's researched what stable households should look like and he's doing a great job making that a reality, I'm very proud of him!

Mae govannen friend! I have an answer for you from the Silmarillion lore!

First off! Stars were incredibly sacred to all elves, not just the Mirkwood strain. Before the moon and sun lamps were put in the sky, elves lived for a very, very long time under the stars alone, and the stars are the first thing that the very first elves saw as they came into being.

Second! "Gems of pure starlight" were actually, literally starlight captured in gemstones. this practice began with Fëanor and the crafting of the legendary Silmarils, the most prized items in the entire Tolkien universe. To put it in perspective just how much the First-Born (elves) cherished these types of stones, millions upon millions of elves were slain by their own kin in their attempt to reclaim the Silmarils. Elrond in particular watched his entire home kingdom be slaughtered in this way when he and his brother were very young. In terms of rarity, there are only three Silmarils in all of existence, and no more can ever be made. it's actually a widely discussed theory that the Arkenstone is the Silmaril that Maedhros held as he cast himself into the fiery chasm! I wouldn't think that these stones would be nearly as rare, but it certainly takes an INCREDIBLY high skill set to make, which makes them more valuable. And Thorin, being skilled in geology and gemstones, definitely knows just how much these starlight jewels mean to elves. But being a dwarf, he wouldn't have nearly as much value to them, and therefore has no reservations holding them from Thranduil.

Edit:[Like seriously, I cannot convey enough in a single post how important these are to elven culture, elven politics, and even the gods!! the gods asked for them-after Melkor destroyed the two trees-to help Yavanna and Nienna regrow them, and Fëanor said no, and it was a huge deal! During the war of wrath, one that was started because of the silmarils, almost every elf in Arda AND MOST OF THE GODS went to war over them!! Oaths were sworn! Elves freely gave their lives over them! Sauron's boss had them for most of the silmarils history!

Like they're a super freaking huge deal!! I cannot stress enough how important and rare and powerful they are!!!!!]

As for Thranduil's costume design, Mirkwood elves typically stay in the neutral, earth tone part of the color pallette. Blue wouldn't have made much sense, too dark a color for Thranduil's light and airy demeanor (at least it is in the books)

In the Hobbit Movies, Tauriel says how starlight is the most sacred form of light to the woodland realm. Now this leaves me with one question: why the FUCK isn’t Thranduil bedecked in moonstones and star stones/star sapphire?!

If the Mirkwood elves see celestial light as the most sacred, wouldn’t it make more sense for them to value stones that are actually of that namesake rather than just diamonds/generic ‘white gems’???

buddy idk how to break this to you, but there are so many ‘white gems’ in the world. You’ve got clear quartz, diamonds, opal, selenite, pearls, the list goes on. And as amusing as it is to imagine the Mirkwood elves being a bunch of crystal bitches and cleansing their auras w quartz, I don’t think that’s what they’re goin for. (This would also make for a very funny miscommunication between dwarves and elves but I digress).

Moonstone and star sapphire, on the other hand, are unmistakable. Star sapphire, in particular would have been an amazing choice for a gemstone for the Mirkwood elves to treasure not only for its celestial associations, but also because of how rare of a stone it is. Seriously, it is insanely rare. And it would make Thorin holding those gems hostage an even bigger deal rather than if it were just diamonds which are a lot more common.

Anyway, just another missed opportunity for the hobbit movies.
