"BEST OF 2014" K-POP MEGA MASH-UP

And finally it is here! I’d like to formally introduce to you guys the “BEST OF 2014” mash-up, which highlights the best tracks that came out this year!

Of course, in determining which songs I’d be putting in this yearly mash-up, not only my opinion counted, but yours as well! I often asked in my social media accounts which songs from this year you guys really liked or may call “iconic”, and chose the majority of the tracks from those list! A factor that I also took into consideration is the different yearly charts that came out this year, but I honestly put in priority to the comments or tweets from my social media. So, I’d also like to apologize right now if your favorite track didn’t make the final list.

HOWEVER, I’d also like to remind you guys about the real goal of this mash-up, which is to highlight the best tracks and the most popular artists this year, and not include every single k-pop track that I know which came out last year. IF YOU GUYS ONLY KNEW, I had a lot more songs in mind that I wanted to put but didn’t perform well in the charts nor was suggested by people when I was creating the list, but sigh, that is life.

Anyway, technically speaking, I think this mash-up could be considered as one of my best by a lot of people as I tried some new techniques in this mix. If you guys noticed, it is the first time I tried blending instrumentals for my mash-ups, as well as include tempo changes, and I think it’s really not bad, so you guys may look forward to it in my next mash-ups soon! As for the lyrical content, I decided to eliminate that element, and just focus on what would sound great together; basically I focused on creating catchy patterns, but while making them, I (un)/intentionally created some lyrical connection (though in just certain parts). But what I’d like you guys to focus on this mix is to just enjoy the flow and melodies I had put in together.

I honestly almost didn’t make a 2014 mega mash-up, just to let you guys know. I was avoiding those questions when I released the K-LUBBING 2.0 mash-up as I was really tired after just finishing that project, but after a few weeks break and enjoying the vacation, I suddenly had the urge to do one, and since I knew no one was going to do one, I just decided to hop on the project. I’m glad I got a lot of questions about making a 2014 mash-up since I honestly like this mash-up best from all of what I have released in 2014.

And yes, like how I always say it, I really hope you guys enjoyed this mash-up! I do these mash-ups for the love of the genre, as well as my hopes of achieving my dreams, so you guys can count on me to do my best to improve every single time I release something.

NOTE: This second issue will STRICTLY include only K-POP songs released and promoted in Korea from JULY 1 until December 10, so please do not look for Special Christmas Singles. LIFE IS AWESOME WITH HD & "CC" TURNED ON! :) After months of waiting, the second mash-up for 2014 has come! I measured the feedback I got after releasing #2014POINT1 last July, and I wasn't as happy with the feedback I got since most people preferred the party style in my mash-ups, so I honestly wanted to make up to those disappointed people with this mash-up. Also, I've been thinking about doing a K-LUBBING 2.0 for a while now, so I thought now was the perfect time! For the instrumentals I used, I mostly used upbeat, party tunes that would concentrate on the feel I wanted to make. The theme I was trying to pull off in this mash-up was ALL ABOUT FEELING GOOD. So if you noticed, many of the tracks I used have that feel-good element, except in the bad-ass third part. But, yeah, I hope I pulled it off somehow. For the format of this K-LUBBING issue, I didn't concentrate on labeling the 4 parts, unlike what I did with version 1.0. But basically I wanted to just create a 7-minute long-ass k-pop mash-up that people can party with, so you can probably say I focused on the music mixing now that before. It's been a long time since my last release, but I am now back with a few things under my sleeves, many of which I'll be releasing slowly 'til the year ends, starting with this remix of one of my all time favorite K-Pop tracks--G-Dragon's "That XX" I know that the possibility of some of you guys "disliking" this remix is high since the original track is just too good and quite simplistic, and what I'm bringing to the table right now with this remix is an experimental cross of some genres, where I basically took G-Dragon to a genre which we've never heard him try ever. The style or sound I built with this remix is basically reflecting an urban setting at night. You know, how you're feeling all good about the night life (but this isn't like the yolo type lol). About the cross of genres I told you about, I was talking about how I threw in some synths for a bit of an 80s feel and a bit of Rhodes sounds for an R&B touch. I tried to make it sound as cohesive as possible, so I hope it worked! But yes, I liked the result of what I made with this, and honestly speaking, I think this is the best (and is currently my favorite) out of all remixes I've released in this channel. You guys probably will hear lots of changes with my style since I've changed DAWs (I switched to Ableton from FL Studio: Way much easier!!!), and I've researched about lots of virtual instruments that I think I liked and bought some. I'm currently in the process of solidifying my style, and so far, this remix comes close to what sound I like, what's me, and what sound/style I would like to stick to. So yeah, I do hope you guys like this remix! I'm honestly trying to get better every time, so I hope it shows not just in this release, but in the future releases as well. I know you guys have been waiting for this way back in June when I first announced it as a January-May issue, which eventually became a January-June issue, and for that, I want to thank you guys! I've been getting lots of messages asking when it'll be released, so I hope you guys are happy now that it is released!

This is my (overall) my second try at connecting lyrics for a mash-up, so I hope I did better than my first, which was on the DJ Masa x SHIMMixes mash-up last year. The lyrical theme is basically tells the story of a couple that is about to go on their separate ways, but there is a feeling of not wanting to go, and a feeling of wanting to make their relationship work again. Basically a typical break-up-but-i-don't-wanna-yet story lol

As for a little background on the instrumental I used, I'd like to tell you all (which you guys probably don't know yet) that I am a big big fan of Humming Urban Stereo, and it is their 10th anniversary this year, so as part of paying a little bit of homage, I used an instrumental of theirs. It was between this instrumental "D.D.D.", and "Scully Doesn't Know", but I went ahead with this one as it fit more the feel that I wanted in the mash-up, as well as it fit most of the songs better!

I am finally back with a new remix, and this time, with another Nine Muses remix! It's sort of a long overdue remix since I've always wanted to put my own spin in it when it was first released but I was busy with other SHIMMixes activities. Also, I think I've had about 6 people who requested for this song to get remixed, so I hope they like this one lol

Self-evaluation? Well basically, I've been trying to get better with my production skills, and well, I think I'm going somewhere, with baby steps. I don't see 'wow' improvement with my skills yet, but I think I did improve in some little aspects. Hoping to get better though. BUT, what's important is that many people would this remix. I worked hard for it, so I hope lots of Mines and KPop listeners would appreciate this mix.

I'll be back soon with a new remix, as well as a collaboration with some kickass people, so be on the lookout for that! First things first, you guys are probably wondering why the title of this mash-up is '3'. The answer is pretty simple: '3' is the third one of the series to come out this year, which has 3 parts, designed to have 3 attacks, and contains 3 energies.

I took a simple route in making this last mash-up as I wanted to simply do something entertaining without the story lines similar to what I did with the previous issue. I instead divided the mix into 3 parts, first was somethings that build up, second was a mix that was pretty jumpy, and the last one was something explosive. I tried to make everything catchy, but I hope those 3 characteristics I wanted to portray came through with this mix too.

SHIMMixes Remix Series Release #2!

The brass that plays on throughout the song was a melody I had inside my head during a boring class, and I wanted to make it the 'heart' of the arrangement, like it would be the one bringing the melody together. I experimented a bit with the beat pattern, put all my ideas together, and voila! I produced this remix!

I know the original was just too catchy and awesome to re-work, and I know that, but I hope you guys come to like this version too, and I hope this comes even just a bit close to being as good as the original.
