Short (okay, not very short) yaps on Demon Slayer characters as actors in modern day.
KAMABOKO SQUAD
TANJIRO is a child actor thanks to his father's fame in his role in Hinokami Kagura III who mostly just played cameos until he landed his role in the series Demon Slayer. Same like canon Tanjiro he's quite the sunshine boy, the sort who'd buy Starbucks for everyone on set and donate at least 60% of his income to charity. His social media is usually more of photos with his siblings or friends on set than actual movie advertising. After the series ended of course he chose to take the iconic green and black checkered haori.
NEZUKO too is a child actor alongside her brother but received a few more important roles due to her cuteness factor, like the mob boss's daughter or the orphaned girl. Has joined a few musicals before with her amazingly sweet singing but ultimately decided she preferred just acting. However Demon Slayer was her first major role; Nezuko likes to take off the bamboo muzzle and pretend to snap at the camera in the bloopers. Tabloids have been gossiping about her and Agatsuma after being spotted at a park together.
INOSUKE was originally just a prodigy break dancer at the studio his single mom Kotoha and grandmother worked at, thanks to his extraordinary flexibility. His first roles were just dancers in musicals but never actually spoke or sang - he was a little self conscious about how deep and scratchy his voice sounded and how oddly feminine his face was, until Ubuyashiki Movies scouted him out formerly to be a demon, but after watching his audition decided he was perfect for the role of the Beast Breathing Slayer. Off screen Inosuke is still a messy eater but surprisingly his language is pretty refined and not so blunt and brutish.
ZENITSU first auditioned for the remake of Lightning, the movie his grandfather Jigoro played a side role in, hoping to impress a girl, but unluckily and luckily he shockingly scored the role and lost the girl. Kaigaku, his already famous foster brother, wasn't too happy about it, especially when they ended up Lightning's sequel, Thunder. Later on he joined the Demon Slayer series - Zenitsu was a little put off at having to bleach his hair but after Nezuko said he looked cool he became a little too eager about it. Real life Zenitsu is still obsessed with girls, something the magazines make a headline of every time.
KANAO played minor roles unlike her sisters, due to her shyness and fear she wouldn't be as expressive. When the other two Kocho girls joined Demon Slayer she decided to audition for a background slayer, but when the director Kagaya saw her ability to play the super silent swordswoman to perfection she was cast at once. Not as obsessed with coins as she is on screen, Kanao still did have to have Tanjiro make the first move. The only pictures she has online are usually blurry back ones or with her face scribbled out.
GENYA is no stranger to the screen as he often plays a small role in his elder brother's gangster shows. His first show was Windbreaker and when they needed someone to play Sanemi's left hand man his brother immediately pushed him to sign up; with his deep voice and build he was quickly cast. Genya liked the Mohawk he has to get from that show so much he made it his trademark style, although some directors decided to not fast him after he refused to grow it out. Off screen of Demon Slayer, he apologizes a lot for the yelling and is still really shy around girls.
HASHIRA
RENGOKU is a very renowned actor, his father being a notable name in the movie world, but not really for his movie - more for the numerous bloopers of the directors having to retake a scene because he couldn't stop himself from laughing out loud. He's the sort who would personally respond to fans and boisterously gets along with everyone on set with a slap on the back and yelled encouragement. Just like his character he's very vocal about his thoughts, although after he picked up the habit of yelling 'UMAI!' everybody started sitting a little further away during meals. Was very excited to have the signature red and yellow hair and was slightly disappointed to find out he would be wearing a wig instead. Could not take the fight scene with Akaza seriously at all and to this day Tengen and him still act out his death scene in front of reporters.
GIYUU started learning to act under the famed but retired drama teacher Urokondaki. He is rather quiet compared to the other actors on set but he's definitely surprisingly more sociable and alive; his complete 180 in personality always startles everyone else. Because he usually gets a smaller role compared to Sabito and Makomo, everyone including him was shocked when he landed the role of the Water Pillar. More than once has stolen the director's megaphone to bark orders like "Hit it like you mean it! Call yourself a slayer?!" at the actors. In the water effects of his scenes, you can be sure he and Sabito are running around using the hoses and sprays to squirt at everyone - Shinobu really gets into character when she gets hit.
TENGEN is so famous for so many things it's hard to start: his flamboyance, his good looks and three wives. Not surprisingly he always gets the main roles in movies like Nine Shinobi. However underneath his flashy exterior Tengen has been cut off from his wealthy father's fortune who opted to give it to his younger brother due to their disapproval of him pursuing a career in the silver screens. Tengen being "angry" in the Demon Slayer scenes was honestly just realistic because he was dying from laughter - yelling and turning red is surprisingly easy like that. Sometimes in public Suma, Makio and Hinatsuru will yell "Tengen-sama!" and cling to him in order to embarrass him but to their annoyance he plays along.
MITSURI is definitely a fan favorite amongst all and every gender for her bubbly, exuberant personality and pretty looks. Real life Mitsuri isn't as giggly as the characters in every love drama series she plays, but definitely her pursuit in romance was inspired by those on screen. She's very supportive in her siblings career in acting too, even if they're just playing supporting child roles for now. Mitsuri hasn't found Mr. Right yet though, due to many people simply wanting to date her for her fame or money - although rumours are going around of chemistry between her and one fellow Pillar actor on the set of Demon Slayer.
SHINOBU started acting background roles in Kanae's movies, until Ubuyashiki Movies realized her snarky personality fit the Insect Pillar a little too well - especially with her rather intimidating smile reserved for the press. Off screen Shinobu is more playful than actual cutting, sarcastic remarks, but boy do you not want to get on her bad side - once an obsessive fan started stalking Kanae and Shinobu publicly cussed him out so bad in an interview the whole thing had to be censored. On the set of Demon Slayer she enjoys whacking people who forgot their lines with the flat of her blade.
OBANAI is one of the most mysterious celebrities as off screen literally no one can identify him anywhere, even if his only disguise is wearing a black face mask. He's pretty famous for his roles in crime or mystery films, so Demon Slayer was a surprise for everyone. His makeup is pretty excessive even compared to those like the demons, and often times they had to redo zoom in shots because he's blinking too much. Ironically Obanai was previously mildly afraid of snakes but after acting with Kaburamaru he decided to adopt the lil' fella and take him back home along with the haori. His acting with Mitsuri was not faked: he really is whipped for the actress from the start.
GYOMEI is the most unserious of the lot off screen, and it got worse when he got the blind Pillar's part, frequently walking up to people and saying really bad jokes like "how do I look? I can't see for myself". One of the oldest actors on set, a lot of people look up to Gyomei for acting tips and support due to his long experience in all sorts of genres and movies. People who hadn't seen his previous films and only know him as the blind character will be taken advantage of - he simply stares in the wrong direction and acts like he can't see the nosy reporter attempting to stick the mic up his immense height.
MUICHIRO was actually cast because of how popular he was as a child actor; together with his twin Yuichiro they played all sorts of roles from the identical ghosts in horror movies to the child hero with a power of splitting himself in two. Many fans sent letter after letter or voted on social media that he should play the foggy headed Mist Pillar. It took a while since he had to grow out his hair and dye it, but when he finally made his appearance everyone went feral. Muichiro has photobombed so many scenes and photos blowing raspberries to the point it's everywhere in the bloopers. He actually cried when Yuichiro "died" because no one told him it would be shot that gruesomely - his reaction was a 100% genuinely real.
SANEMI had done a lot of makeup and sacrificed a lot of things for his roles in every mafia movie where he'd always be cast as the mad dog: bleach his hair white, paint on scars, go on a diet and crazy workout plan to get those muscles, but having to shave his eyebrows took the cake. The first video of Demon Slayer wasn't the trailer - it was the video of him recording it. Off screen Sanemi isn't that screamy or hot tempered; that's just for show in interviews or reporters. His social media is spammed with photos of him and Genya or other actors on set. An excellent (albeit pestering) wingman, he even carried Obanai on his shoulders so that he could be tall enough to kabedon Mitsuri in a viral video.
DEMONS
KOKUSHIBO was a star from the start, usually taking the same roles as his twin Yoriichi. But in the end he got tired of being in his brother's shadow and have everyone confuse them for only one Tsugikuni so he joined Samurai of the Moon alone and that was how he made his name on screen. Contrary to his parts Kokushibo is pretty verbal and sarcastic. The few times he appreciates having a twin is when he can let Yoriichi deal with the fans who think there's only one of them and slip away unnoticed with just sunglasses as his disguise. Was very supportive when Muichiro and Yuichiro began acting but secretly worried they would encounter the same problem as him.
DOUMA was famous from the moment he was born because of his actor parents' infamous divorce. He only really rose to fame after his acting in Eternal Paradise, a movie about a cannibal pretending to be a cultist. Douma is pretty flirty even off screen (causing Kibutsuji Productions to threaten to fire him several times if he made another scandal, especially around Shinobu Kocho) but if his lines require him to say anything inappropriate about women on screen he actually is pretty apologetic about it afterwards...in a carefree manner, of course. His favourite part of his costume is the rainbow irises and wears it even in interviews - some people actually believe those ARE his eyes.
AKAZA was just an ordinary martial arts student until Kibutsuji Productions came looking for someone able to act and attack in their mobster movie Three. Many of his photos include him with his signature tattoos, but they're actually fake; only his reddish pink hair is not. Starred alongside Rengoku in a sitcom Donuts about two rival chefs and Basketball Flame about a wannabe player. Both were delighted to work together in Demon Slayer but he hasn't stopped harassing Rengoku about becoming a demon yet. Akaza refuses to do any intimate scenes with other women that aren't his fiancée Koyuki so they had to hire her.
HANTENGU is an actor famous for his role in The Old Tell No Lies and his skill to cry and sob on demand until his untimely end from a concussion at a failed stunt. Thankfully his grandsons the quadruplets and Zohakuten are still continuing his legacy, moving quickly from the greatly watched Clones to the up and coming Demon Slayer. No one's figured out their secret to acting is simply because they're really bickering amongst themselves. Not acting.
GYOKKO is someone not so much famous for his roles than his flashiness in fashion at every year's Kizuki Gala with eye popping makeup and designer clothes. He enjoys pottery in his free time and some of the pieces you see on set are actually his own works. Since he isn't a fish in real life, in Demon Slayer he's mainly voice acting while the body is CGI. He actually gets along pretty well with the Tokito twins, taking them out for meals sometimes but honestly, they couldn't have possibly taken his eyeshadow, right?
GYUTARO in his humble beginnings was just a stunt double in heavy makeup for action movies, because of his skill and complete fearlessness and was too afraid of auditioning independently due to his insecurities about his birthmarks and face. He started as a double for the main character in Poison Sickle, but when Kibutsuji Productions heard his voice and saw his attitude they decided to completely just cast him as the main character, a hardened apocalypse survivor of coarse language attempting to kill all who gets in his way with his sickle. He played it so realistically although Daki encouraged him at first even she was honestly a little freaked.
DAKI was like Nezuko although scoring bigger roles. Her prettiness managed to land her in many movies, although nothing major until her playing in the princess-assassin movie Warabihime secured a role for her in Demon Slayer. Off screen, Daki isn't as insulting or biased on beauty, getting along with the other girls on set pretty well and insisting Gyutaro pay for whatever crazy shopping spree they had gone on. She loves to do her own makeup, so good they don't even need to hire an artist for her. Daki won't join a movie if Gyutaro isn't in it too or acting at the same time.
ENMU isn't as delusional and obsessive as the characters he enjoys playing on screen, but he does often like to mess with others on set by proclaiming he'd love to die by their hand or offering his blood. Newspapers enjoy speculating why he has always refused to take any other method of transportation save trains but the real reason is that he's really filming another movie alongside Demon Slayer, the thriller Subway. Nonetheless Enmu's social media, despite his publicist's frustrations, is spammed with pictures of trains. He's mentioned in an interview he likes his character's haircut in Demon Slayer so much he's considering keeping it.
RUI too is a child actor, but he mostly plays the sickly child in advertisements or hospitals due to his weirdly pale skin. Rui's odd fascination with arachnids (something his fans are crazy over) began after he landed a main role in Spider Family, which was why with his parents' encouragement he auditioned to play of the minor demons on Mt. Natagumo but much to their delight he instead go the lead. He likes to play around with the other actors and more than once anyone caught napping will wake to Rui's makeup scheme plastered on their faces.

- gojo satoru x reader
valentine's is around the corner and word has it that you're going on a date with geto...? no way! gojo is going to make sure that you're saying no! ever wonder how gojo finally gets you to become his? be prepared for a confession of a lifetime!
genre/warnings. crack, semi-failed love confession (it's gojo, what do you expect?), poor geto, and of course, fluff !!
notes. i genuinely love writing this :') loser gojo has always have a soft spot in my heart *sighs* i'd recommend listening to beautiful & because of you - beast (highlight) for this !!
a part of gojo's love entries and valentine's special !
Tumblr media
Satoru doesn't really pay attention to holidays. To him, it's all the same—he can turn everyday into a holiday if he wanted to.
However, Valentine's Day is an exception. He knows it and is somewhat excited even. Why, you ask? Because this is the moment he has chosen. He's going to make you his on that very day.
He had everything planned out to perfection: skylit rooftop, bouquet of roses, eloquent speech (at least, he thought so). He was going to charm the pants out of you and it'd be a smooth-sailing event, he was sure of it!
At least until he heard that life-shattering gossip—
"I saw Geto-san asking her out for the 14th just now!"
"What?" he snapped his head in Haibara's direction, who was eagerly sharing with him and the others what he had allegedly heard, his eyes practically sparkling with excitement.
"Ehh, not bad," Shoko mused with a hint of amusement, casting a curious look his way. It was obvious she was enjoying this.
Nanami let out a thoughtful hum. "That's quite a surprise. I didn't think they'll go that fast."
"But how?!" Satoru suddenly exploded, grabbing Haibara by the collar. "How did that slimy bangs go from saying nothing to asking her out?!"
"O-oh Gojo-san! Don't squish me, please!"
And from then onwards, his focus was set: preventing you from falling into Suguru's grimy hands. Absolutely no way! He was so close already. He was on the cusp of winning your heart, and he knew it!
Now, you laughed at his jokes, you didn't ignore him as much, and you even asked him if he was okay after his recent mission! That was huge progress, even Satoru knew as much. And no, even if it was Suguru, he refused to hand you over to him.
On the 14th, you were going to be his... even if it cost him everything!
Tumblr media
Gojo Satoru is annoying. You supposed you knew that already, but over these past few days, his ability to get on your nerves somehow had ascended to a wholly new level.
"I'm telling you, you should go with me! I'm going to take you somewhere amazing!" he practically demanded right up in your space, prompting you to let out a long-drawn sigh.
By all means, his attempts to woo you were all lame. He didn't know the first thing about being humble, and logically, you should have been more inclined to push him away.
‘Should’ being the operative word, because, somehow, over the past few weeks, you've started to see his antics as not just bearable but even endearing in a way. No one had ever pursued you with such relentless zeal before him, and it became increasingly difficult to overlook the way your heart fluttered in response to his (occasionally dubious) attempts to win you over.
So, right now, it really wasn't because you were playing hard to get. "Gojo, I've told you already. I can't on that day, I've already got plans," you sighed, exasperated.
He shot you a glance, his expression shifting into a brazenly raised eyebrow. "With Suguru?"
"How do you—"
"Tell him no," Satoru pressed, scowling. "Tell him I asked you first."
"In fact, he asked first—"
“Just say no!”
“No!”
"You're seriously going on a date with him?" he questioned, almost in disbelief. "And what, you're going to confess to him too?"
His tone didn't sit well with you, causing your irritation to rise. You frowned and retorted boldly, "And if I do? It's not like you can do anything about it anyway."
Wait, that actually hurts. Satoru was now irked too. Hadn't he shown enough for you to understand just how much of a big deal it was for him? Didn't you know he actually likes you so much that it made him toss and turn on some nights?
(No, you didn't really know. He just made himself look stupid most of the time. You were not that impressed.)
"As a matter of fact, I can," he began, expression turning into a slight sneer. "I can and I will if you still insist on going with him."
"Wha?"
"I'm going to crash your party so hard, you'll wish you hadn't gone behind my back. The audacity he has, trying to steal my girl!"
"You sound like a creep," you couldn't help blurting out, wide-eyed. "And I'm not your girl—"
"You—are quite heartless." His gaze on you behind that glasses hardened, and you were suddenly taken aback by how upset he looked. "I'm giving you my all—I think about you all day and night I think it's actually making me crazy!"
You stared at him, genuinely dumbfounded this time, realizing that somehow or another now, he was pouring his emotions out.
"Nothing I say will make sense to you, but whatever—" he exhaled sharply in frustration. "It's always you—in my mind. Compared to anyone else now, you're the prettiest. And if you were to ask me to pull a Blue on Ichiji right now, I'd probably do it! You see now—what you have done to me?"
"Ichiji? Gojo—!"
"You might think I did all of this for your attention, and yes, you’re right! That's how much you've messed with my head!"
. . .
Oh, now he had really gone and done it, hadn't he? He had laid it all bare, every last bit of it—the chaotic heap stacking up as his botched confession. And there were no roses, no rooftop, and none of the grandeur he had envisioned. This was so not how he wanted it to go at all.
Satoru grimaced, suddenly regretting this turn of events. He had seen it coming already—you calling him a total weirdo and then leaving him in the dust. Just the thought was enough to make his heart squeeze. Wanting to escape before it became a reality, he abruptly turned on his heel and walked away from you.
He barely made it a few steps away before he felt a firm tug on his arm.
"Wait! Gojo!"
You grabbed his arm tightly, forcing him to turn towards you. Satoru stubbornly refused to meet your gaze, his lips pressed into a massive pout. Yet, beyond that display of defiance, you could discern a hint of heartbreak splashed across his face, and it made your stomach churn.
Always trying to make you look at him. Always trying to get you to smile through his lame jokes. Making himself stupid on purpose. Frustrated when his feelings went unnoticed… All Gojo Satoru did thus far finally added up.
So it's true... he likes me this much...?
In that moment, warmth flooded through you. This idiot. Everyone said he was no good, but your heart couldn't help but leap, and a flurry of butterflies seemed to dance in your stomach.
In this instant, everything seemed to fall into place. Any doubt you might have melted away, leaving only a sense of certainty about your feelings. Everything just feels absolutely right.
"I'm not going on a date with Geto, you know."
"Huh?" Upon hearing that, he swiveled to face you, his gaze intensively searching your face for further explanation.
With a huff, you elaborated, "It's for my Grade One promotion mission. Geto-san asked to join me for it."
"But why? He doesn't need to—"
"He wants to tag along to absorb more cursed spirits, you see..."
"Oh, amassing new little friends, I see," Satoru quipped, face scrunching up distastefully.
His mood seems better now, you noted. You exhaled, your heart suddenly felt like it was pounding louder. "So, you've got the wrong idea. It sucks but my Valentine's day is going to be spent on a mission."
A beat passed by before he finally spoke again, still sheepish and avoiding eye contact. "I'm coming with you too, for that... mission or whatever."
You pressed your lips together, trying to ignore the warmth spreading across your face. "And?"
"And... huh?"
"That's all? Nothing else you want to add?"
And suddenly his eyes sparkled back to life. Beyond those ridiculous round glasses, his bright, yet steadfast eyes met yours with such vibrant shine it made your chest thump so hard and face flush with matching intensity.
Silly, silly boy... liking me so much that he turns stupid.
"Actually, I've got plenty more to say!"
With an indignant snort, you released his arm. "Well, I'm waiting. Because what you just said before has to be the most underwhelming confession I've ever heard."
"Wha? Hey! That wasn't my confession! Just you wait, I'll do it over, and this time, I'll make you swoon so hard you'll forget how Suguru's face looks like!"
And on the night of February 14, he truly surpassed himself once again in making a terrible confession, and yet it still signified the day you truly became his—the beginning of your life together, which along the way, would be filled with more shenanigans, endless laughter and of course, love.
Tumblr media
Epilogue
"Haibara, I really thought you're the most sensible here! I can't believe you!"
Suguru massaged his temples with utter grievance. So this was the cause of his headache and constant death stares Satoru gave him these past few days—the three people gathering in front of him!
"I've told you already, Nanami—Gojo is really going through with it," Shoko cackled with utter satisfaction. "Now, pay up."
"Ieiri-san... sigh— from now on, I'm not participating in your bets anymore."
Haibara, who went with Shoko's suggestion to incite this, sheepishly laughed. "Ehe, Geto-san, all that ends well is well though, no?"
"Satoru was really about to skin me alive! Ugh, and you almost ruined my date too..."
"Eh? Date?" All three sets of eyes suddenly fixed on him in utter astonishment. "Who?"
-> continue to 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 (with geto suguru—soon!)

Don't bother giving me a kiss unless it's a New Year's one like this now 😭😭😭
Tumblr media
♡   —   pairing: yuuta x reader
♡   —   summary: By now, Yuuta has experienced enough to recognize love when it flutters back into his heart, but he also knows that with love comes fear and anguish and longing― and the uttermost horrid hope that maybe it’s all worth it.
♡   —   tags/warnings: gn reader + no pronouns, set around their 3rd or 4th year of the tokyo metropolitan curse technical college on new year's eve, honestly this is just fluff and a feel-good fic <3
♡   —   words: 2.4k
♡   —   a/n: my first one-shot for yuuta 🥺💕 with this piece i've discovered i truly love writing about him... we're both romantic saps and i think it shows lol
♡   —  masterlist
Tumblr media
Yuuta's cheeks had been tinted deep red since he entered the pub. Actually, they had been like that ever since he spotted you sitting near the window sipping a colourful drink with a small smile on your lips. However, you hadn’t noticed this until, long after he had taken the seat next to you, something you said made him laugh. Chuckling, Yuuta’s head moved and suddenly the dim lighting inside the pub reflected on his pale skin, revealing his lovely blush.
Maybe it is the alcohol. You knew alcohol tended to paint people’s faces in reddish colours, especially when they were as pale as Yuuta. However, the night keeps going and you can’t help but notice the colour wasn’t wearing off, even if he hadn’t drunk more of the one bottle of beer he had ordered more than an hour ago.
"Thought you wouldn't come today," you comment, raising your voice so he could listen to you on top of the pub's noise. He furrows his eyebrows, a small smile on his face.
"I'm not that introverted, you know?" he reminds you, taking a sip of his beer. "And it's New Year's Eve. It's been a while since I could celebrate it with friends."
He's thought of you each morning he walked into that rusty coffee shop that, even if it had seen better days, served the best coffee he had ever tasted. A couple of sips and he was already ready to start his day. Would kissing you be just like that? Would it fill him with such energy? He likes to think so. Sometimes, his phone would buzz with a message from you and it would be enough for him to leave his half-finished cup on the table with a couple of coins and get on with his job.
Yuuta bites his tongue. Should have he said that? Would you automatically believe that he only sees you as a friend? Because he doesn't― God, he doesn't. He's spent the past few months with your memory dancing and prancing around his mind, your pretty smile and gentle eyes making his heart skip a beat every time he thinks about them. He knows he doesn’t see you as a friend.
By now, he’s had enough life experience to recognize love when it flutters back into his heart; however, he also knows that with love comes fear and anguish and longing― and the uttermost horrid hope that maybe it’s all worth it.
Did you know how much an effect you had on him? That, last time Gojou sent him on a long mission, he asked if there was someone else who could take his place? Yuuta had barely talked to you in person. If he recalled correctly, it hadn’t even been more than three times than he had seen your face. Your relationship grew over texts and phone calls, and while he didn’t have a problem with the constant travelling he was usually pushed into, he wondered if you ended the calls the same way he did― longing for summer afternoons where both of you could lie on the grass, finally without the need of a phone for a change.
Would you get bored if all you did was talk? He was up to anything you wanted to do. If you wanted to rent bikes and ride around the city, he would find the best store and pay for both. If you wanted to have a picnic at the training fields, he would ask Yuuji to teach him one of his recipes. Even if you wanted to have a group hangout, he would ignore his selfish thoughts of having all your attention and would ask your mutual friends to tag along.
As he kept thinking about it, he realized he didn’t really care about the time, place, or even the people that were around him.
He just needed you.
You, who had not left his mind the past few months.
You, whose voice he longed to hear the most after a difficult day.
You, whose only mention could lift his spirits.
You, who had made his heart jump after years of silence.
You, who are looking at him with a raised eyebrow.
Shit.
"Sorry, got sidetracked," he chuckles nervously, scratching the back of his head. "What did you say?"
Your smile disarms him once more. "It's okay. I was just asking if you brought a date."
Yuuta widens his eyes, clearly confused.
“A date?” he repeats, still a little dumbfounded. “No.”
“Oh, they stayed back, huh?” you ask with a playful smile. You take a sip of your drink, only making his confusion grow.
“Stayed back? No― no, I didn’t date anyone while I was travelling,” he says. Wait, did you think that when he wasn’t on the phone with you he was―?
“C'mon,” you insist, gently nudging his knee with yours. “You're really gonna make me believe you didn't meet anyone interesting abroad?”
“I was working, you know?” he says, not noticing the frustration growing in his voice. “It wasn’t a vacation or a― time off or anything. I had a goal, I wasn’t wasting my time.”
Your smile falls from your face but it was quickly replaced by another milder, faker one. “Yeah, of course. Sorry. You’re right,” you chuckle, and it’s at that moment that Yuuta realizes he fucked up. Your eyes don’t meet your smile and you’re looking anywhere but his eyes.
Look at me, he wants to say. Please, look at me again.
“You know, since we’re talking about that,” you continue, looking down at your hands. “I wanted to apologize. I always felt a bit bad for texting you so much when you―”
“No!”
Once again, Yuuta has raised his voice, and he doesn’t seem to mind that a couple of heads have turned in his direction. How could he, when you’re finally looking into his eyes?
“I didn’t mean it that way. I only meant I didn’t have time to date― not that I would be against― uh― dating? It just didn’t happen,” he explains, tripping over his words. “I wasn’t trying to date anyone. And your texts! Your texts were more than fine. They were― Honestly, I really liked them! They were the best part of my day.”
A genuine smile draws upon your lips and Yuuta lets out a breath he didn’t know he was holding.
“Really?”
Yuuta nods eagerly, more sure of himself than he had ever been. “Yes.”
“Well, good,” you grin, so happy with yourself Yuuta feels the impulse to crash his lips against yours. “I liked hearing from you too. Whenever I went through some shit I really looked forward to listening to your voice at the end of the day.”
A warm sensation floods his insides, fueling him to continue the conversation.
“So…” he pauses, trying to contain his excitement. “You― you didn’t bring anyone either? To the party?”
“Nope,” you say, shaking your head. “Wouldn’t fair if I did, you know?” you ask, and there’s a dust of mischief in your eyes. “Since I already like someone.”
Yuuta’s heart jumps.
“Oh?”
“Five minutes until midnight!”
The DJ’s announcement breaks the moment and the next thing Yuuta knows, Maki, Toge and Panda are all running and crashing into the two of you. They’re very, very, inebriated but he can’t seem to care― not when you’re laughing at one of Panda’s remarks, your shoulders shaking as you do. Even if he’s frustrated you were interrupted, he can’t fight off the smile on his face. You truly look the most beautiful when you’re enjoying yourself, Yuuta thinks.
What did you mean when you said you already liked someone? Was that a confession? He felt his heart beating out of his chest while he considered the possibility you were referring to him. After all, you did say you liked talking to him on the phone and that you didn’t have a date for the night. Who else could you have meant?
Yes, of course, there was the possibility it could be someone else. Someone Yuuta didn’t even know. Maybe you met someone during one of your assignments, a non-sorcerer that, for some reason, couldn’t make it to this New Year’s Eve party. Someone who wasn’t in another country for the most part of the year, someone you could actually look at while you were talking, someone who―
Then again, you did say it was his voice you looked forward to listening to at the end of the day, right?
So, had it been a confession or not? And if it was, should he do something about it? The moment had been lost when the rest of your classmates arrived, but the party was far from over. Maybe he could find another opportunity to speak to you in private. He’d tell you that you’re more than a dear friend to him― that, at this very moment, he can’t even consider going on another journey if you’re not by his side. That he knows this feeling well, and it’s love. He’s fallen in love with you. Yes, over phone calls and texts, but it’s real. He knows that the reason your laugh pulls on his heartstrings with such ease is that he’s surrendered to you― body and soul, everything he is, is nothing but yours and only yours.
Before he can muster the courage to ask you for a private conversation, you’re standing up and leaving the group. Yuuta notices Panda is asking something to him, but he can’t pay attention. Where are you going? He watches your back disappear in the crowd and without thinking it twice, he stands up and follows you, bumping into strangers until his hand closes around your elbow.
“Wait! You can’t go yet― it’s almost New Year’s!” he says, and watches you turn on your heel with a confused expression.
“What? No, I’m not going home yet” you say with a laugh. “I’m just getting another drink.”
Yuuta looks over your shoulder and realizes you were heading to the bar.
Well, this is embarrassing.
“Oh, okay,” he whispers, letting go of the hold of your elbow while you watch him with an amused smile.
“Want to go with me for a new―”
“Ten! Nine! Eight!”
People around you at the pub started chanting the countdown to the new year, taking you by surprise. You looked over at the table by the window where you were sitting, but with how many people had jumped to the dance floor, it was almost impossible to find anybody more than a few steps away.
“Seven! Six! Five!”
Your eyes land back on Yuuta’s and oh― there it is again. The blush across his cheeks and his quivering lips, his dark circles on his pale skin and his gleaming eyes. He looks so good with his grown-out hair, and you wish you had the courage to push it away from his face, tangle your fingers, wake up to your face pressed against it.
You should say something. Tell him that ever since the first time you saw him, you knew you wanted him to be a part of your life. Whether as a friend or a lover, you weren’t sure. But as soon as his eyes fell on you and he greeted you with a smile, you realized you weren’t just meeting him― you were recognizing him. You had never seen him before and yet his presence brought you a peaceful warmth. The first conversation flowed easily as if you had shared your best years together and you couldn’t help but think that maybe, in some other life, you had.
He belonged in your life. And that thought was only cemented with the continuous calls and texts you exchanged while he was abroad. You felt like a little kid, grinning widely whenever your phone buzzed and, without even looking at the screen, you already knew it was him. And now, after months and months of imagining his expressions, he is here, right in front of you and you can’t believe it’s taking you this much courage to finally do something about it, tell him to―
Yuuta grabs the zippers of your jacket.
“Four! Three! Two!”
For the first time, his indecision is palpable. His body sways on his heels almost imperceptibly, backwards and forwards, not knowing what to do next. Yuuta looks down at his hands, your wrinkled jacket inside his fists and he mentally kicks himself for not being able to take the next step. He wants you, he wants you so bad he’s afraid of letting go and surrendering himself to a life of yearning from the sidelines. However, he’s mostly afraid of finally acting on his feelings and finding out, deep down, you didn’t feel the same after all.
“Yuuta,” you whisper.
His lips part as he raises his eyes back to yours.
“Kiss me.”
“One!”
His lips are pressing on yours. He’s kissing you― Yuuta is kissing you while the rest of the pub is cheering for the new year, yet only the two of you exist at this moment. All that matters now is his hands that have let go of your jacket and are now pulling you closer by the small of your back and his lips that taste like beer and yearning, like summer afternoons and the promise of a better tomorrow.
Your arms wrap around his neck, and you feel his back arching and lifting you up your feet. Yuuta steadies you by placing one of his hands on the middle of your back, securely holding you while his lips glide against yours. His touch is both gentle and desperate, the feeling of coming back home mixes with the exhilaration of new love and you swear you have never felt so much at the same time. You kiss him like you’ll never get enough of him, even though just by looking at your eyes he’s already giving you everything you ever wanted.
It takes a moment before he finally puts you down. Your breath crashes with his when you pull away from each other, still a little dizzy and disoriented, warm cheeks and blown-out pupils lost in each other.
“Hi,” he sighs, a silly smile drawn on his face. You chuckle softly against his lips and gently cup the sides of his face.
“Happy New Year,” you say, and Yuuta doesn’t think he’s ever been this happy.
He kisses you again.

Classroom doodles these past few days when I was bored. Don't really like how Obanai turned out, but Mitsuri was fun to draw. Might do a present Gojo later on.

This one as my first fanart that I did last year. Was kinda surprised at how well it turned out honestly
