thinking about how catra and adora both view power and self-sufficiency as the only way to achieve safety, but adora based safety around being loved and needed, bc her use to shadow weaver protected her from harm. and catra based safety on not needing help or love, because she relied on adora to protect her and want her, and then adora left. 

and since adora believes being helpful is how she can be worthy of love, catra is both her greatest failure and her greatest hope. bc catra doesn't want adora's help. but she does want to help adora, and that means she has to let adora help her. and they learn to love themselves thru loving each other, and they find safety in a bond with no expectations.

and they start to define safety as safety to pursue what they want. and who they want. and who they love. safety from destiny. safety from expectations. safety from isolation. and because they found that safety in each other, they saved the world.

and the failsafe is a backup plan. the failsafe is what happens when they revert back to old coping mechanisms. the failsafe is one final reminder of their destiny, where she-ra saves the world and leaves catra behind. and then they choose otherwise. and they become the failsafe. they recreate the failsafe.

and it’s still adora helping catra. it’s still catra connecting with adora. it’s still their same safety, but without conditions, and without fear of dying to save the world. they’re reinvented this safe place and they’ve returned to the fright zone with fresh eyes, and fuck isn’t it poetic that it’s the fright zone, it’s a place of their constant fear--and then they destroy it, and they create a new world.

they create safety. not safety in ignorance, or safety in familiarity, or conditional safety. they find safety in each other. because they always have. because their safety is their magic, is their love, is their identity. and through accepting themselves they revert the world to its true form.

and they love each other. which means loving themselves, because they have to love what the other does. which means loving the world. because they want to make it safe for each other. they love each other and they don’t need the failsafe to keep their worlds intact, because they’re not scared of making a new one. they’re not scared of the dark anymore. they’re safe.
