SPACE ACE: Yoruichi’s Mobile Suits & History Part II
Part I is here!
U.C. 0088, April: MSA-0011 [Ext] Ex-S Gundam
U.C. 0091, January: MSZ-010A1 Theta Plus [ALICE] Yoruichi Custom
U.C. 0093, August: FA-93-ν2HWS Hi-ν Gundam Heavy Weapons System Type [ALICE] Yoruichi Custom
U.C. 0096, April: FA-93-ν2HWS Hi-ν Gundam Heavy Weapons System Type [ALICE] Yoruichi Custom
While the existence of the [Ext] Ex-S Gundam’s ALICE artificial intelligence system initially went undetected by Yoruichi during the course of the First Neon Zeon War—it overwhelmingly judged her decision-making abilities and reactions as both correct and logical, and rarely interfered—she would eventually come to perceive its presence through a variety of combat incidents during the conflict. Intrigued by the capabilities of the AI and the way it subtly augmented her combat performance, after the war ended in January of U.C. 0089, Yoruichi would spend the next couple of years delving into the darker secrets of the past decade to uncover the truth of many of the scientific horrors she’d faced on the battlefield.
In the course of her investigations, she would not only learn of the origins of the Cyber-Newtypes and the various Newtype Labs which had produced them (including Zeon’s Flanagan Institute and the Federation’s EXAM Institute, Augusta Newtype Lab, Oakland Newtype Lab, and Murasame Newtype Lab) but also of various technologies developed along the way such as: Augusta’s ORX-013 Gundam Mk-V with its Quasi-Psycommu System and INCOMs, which she had first seen on its successor, the AMX-014 Döven Wolf, during the First Neo Zeon War; the EXAM System created by the EXAM Institute, the HADES iteration developed by Augusta, and True Federal’s subsequent NEO EXAM System developments; and even the Reuse Psycho Device created by Zeon during the One Year War.
Seemingly lacking advanced Newtype abilities herself, Yoruichi knew she would likely gain little if any benefit from Psycommu or Bio-Sensor (and eventually Psycoframe) technologies. This was a problem as it became increasingly clear to her that advantages in mobile suit warfare were trending in that direction of development. Whoever held the advantage would probably determine the fate of humanity, and she was unwilling to simply stand aside in the face of whatever that outcome might be given the stakes. Utterly unwilling to submit to becoming a Cyber-Newtype given the evident drawbacks she’d witnessed through the First Neo Zeon War, let alone her subsequent detective work, Yoruichi instead decided to pursue alternative means of keeping up. She would still be collating all the information she’d uncovered when she was invited by Captain Bright Noa to join Londo Bell prior to its official founding on March 21, U.C. 0090. She agreed on certain conditions and was instated at the rank of Commander (chūsa).
With her newfound authority and data, Yoruichi returned to Anaheim Electronics in April of U.C. 0090 to renegotiate her relationship with them using the information she’d acquired. She also issued an ultimatum: cut her into even more of their latest technologies and work with her on competitor technology to counter Newtype battlefield superiority or she would air their dirty laundry not just to Londo Bell, but the entire Earth Sphere, making it very clear her threat was automatic: if anything happened to her or those close to her, the cat would be out of the bag no matter how thorough they might try to be.
Considering this a small price to pay to maintain her as an ally, Anaheim Electronics agreed to her terms, albeit with intentions of their own... They had already come into possession of several captured AMX-014 Döven Wolf units and were working on converting them into ARX-014 Silver Bullet units which were intended to test the Quasi-Psycommu System and INCOMs. Likewise, they were already negotiating a contract to work on converting the RX-80PR Pale Rider into the AMX-018 [HADES] Todesritter for Char Aznable’s Newborn Neo Zeon. Yoruichi’s provided information and continuing combat data both as an individual and from training ALICE would prove invaluable to both efforts, and others to follow...
Yoruichi was accordingly the recipient of the first production article of the MSZ-010A1 Theta Plus in January of U.C. 0091, with the ALICE AI from her [Ext] Ex-S Gundam being transferred into it. Finally in possession of firepower to surpass the MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam, Yoruichi would continue to sortie with the mobile suit for Londo Bell during the events leading up to, through, and beyond the Second Neo Zeon War in U.C. 0093.
With the disappearance and presumed death of Char Aznable and Amuro Ray during the Axis Shock event which concluded that conflict, Yoruichi’s relative prominence in Anaheim Electronics' eyes rose; she was their last “in-house” ace and in their view she depended on them as much as they now did on her. It would be to their mutual benefit to continue their relationship in such uncertain times...
Thus, in August of that year, they issued Yoruichi with the final development of the RX-93 ν Gundam, which had originally been intended for Amuro Ray himself: the FA-93-ν2HWS Hi-ν Gundam Heavy Weapons System Type. Stripped of its originally intended Psycoframe cockpit, it was retrofitted with a Quasi-Psycommu System and wired fin funnels developed from the ARX-014P Silver Bullet (Funnel Test Type) which had directly lead to the original RX-93 ν Gundam. This plus the integration with the ALICE AI which had accompanied Yoruichi for years would allow for the use of the funnels under AI-control in a fashion similar to that of the INCOMs of the AMX-018 [HADES] Todesritter, yet superior as Yoruichi’s ALICE lacked the issues of the HADES system. Her Hi-ν Gundam would continue to vastly outperform derivatives such as the RX-94 Mass Production Type ν Gundam and even the later RGM-96X Jesta in the years ahead.
With such a prize in Yoruichi’s possession, Anaheim Electronics tipped its own hand just as Yoruichi herself had demanded they do three years earlier by revealing to her the UC Project, the creation of the Newtype-Destroyer (NT-D) System, and the development of both the MSN-06S Sinanju Stein and RX-0 Unicorn Gundam. Privately horrified at the prospect of the arms race continuing without end, Yoruichi was all the more chagrinned to learn that the NT-D system required a Newtype to function. With all that conveyed, Anaheim Electronics gave a final revelation: a showcase of the almost completed MSN-001X Gundam Delta Kai and its n_i_t_r_o System, which could temporarily augment an Oldtype into a Cyber-Newtype, albeit with some ongoing teething issues...
Nonplussed at the possibilities apparently being dangled in front of her, Yoruichi proposed instead focusing on the synergy of systems like ALICE, the Quasi-Psycommu System, and miniaturization of existing technologies like I-field generators and Minovsky craft systems. She was not left with the impression Anaheim Electronics was particularly interested in her proposal and departed with the Hi-ν Gundam. She would continue to utilize it, with periodic upgrades by Kūkaku, through the leadup to the Third Neo Zeon War (“Laplace Incident”) in April, U.C. 0096, throughout it, and through the associated events.
Yoruichi’s earlier suggestions to Anaheim Electronics would prove prescient in the aftermath of the conflict as it was agreed by both the Earth Federation and Minerva Zabi’s faction in the Republic of Zeon that Psycoframe technology was too dangerous to continue to allow its development or proliferation. Her Hi-ν Gundam was—conveniently, due to all its alterations—exempt from this ban, as the Quasi-Psycommu System was considered primitive by comparison, like comparing a transistor with a microprocessor. Indeed, Londo Bell (along with ECOAS) and Yoruichi herself with the Hi-ν Gundam would be instrumental in enforcing this agreement through to Zeon rejoining the Earth Federation in U.C. 0100...

Things I Love Thinking in Circles About
How big, area-wise, the Seireitei is
What regular Gotei work looks like when we're not looking
What did the early bird VCs do the entire time they were sitting around in Conference Room 2 waiting for people to show up?
--
1. How big, area-wise, the Seireitei is
According to Yoruichi, walking from one gate to the next would take 10 days, which initially makes the Seireitei seem really damn big. The city of Ann Arbor, Michigan has a population of 120,000 people. If we're meant to believe that there are 6000 shinigami (citation: Ooetsu?), I find it difficult to believe that the Seireitei's population would be much larger than 120k, if that. (Personally, I proceed as though it's a lot less than that.) Like the Seireitei, Ann Arbor is also circular, ringed not by a Seireimon but a necklace of Interstates, but it's only like 10 miles across. It really wouldn't take that long to walk 1/4 of the way around its rim.
You'd have to walk around a quarter of the entire country of Spain for it to take 10 days:
Tumblr media
Obviously Google is not taking into account tired feet or needing to like, sleep, with this estimate, but STILL. The Seireitei is not the size of SPAIN.
A) Let's say it would really take 10 days. This gate-to-gate trek might need to take terrain into account (which Google sometimes does and often doesn't lol). The area Ichigo et al ended up in seemed pretty civ where the gate matches up with Junrinan, but maybe a shade north and the terrain is much more difficult!
B) Let's say it really would not take 10 days. Yoruichi might have been exaggerating, because she doesn't want to walk to another damn gate and also it's not as though there aren't also shinigami waiting at...the other gates... So she nips that in the bud and directs her party's attentions elsewhere.
Or maybe she knows that even this close to the Seireitei, in Rukongai time gonna wime, and space-time are not going to exist in a constant relationship with each other.
C) Let's say Matsumoto's "half-day" comment probably isn't about geography, either. Half a day would make the Seireitei approximately the size of like, Indianapolis? (population 882k, area 368 sq. miles/950 sq. km) if we were basing it purely on area. But also, shunpou?? So I really feel like the "length of time it would take people to arrive"half day" comment is less a function of physical distance and more about the fact that they're all busy and have tasks they'd need to extricate themselves from before they started walking/running/sauntering/gamboling over.
Which leads me to--
2. What regular Gotei work looks like when we're not looking
I think we've seen enough evidence that the way the Gotei has built itself does not lend itself well to rapid response. Their response to the ryoka invasion was not particularly rapid, nor organized. Their response to AIZEN'S MURDER was nearly non-existent. Winter War prep was also kind of rough, and I guess TYBW 1 was kind of a surprise attack, but I think my point still stands that it's just not their forte. I think part of this is because the Gotei is legitimately just kind of bad at being functional; we all know this. They all know this. I think the other part is that rapid response is very, very hard.
Given that they are heavenly court guards, you'd think rapid response to potential threats would be more of a priority, but you could say that about a lot of real-life things that, in reality, do not work that way (and perhaps cannot, in the absence of radical reinvention). To use a near universal example, see Exhibit C: COVID responses lol. Even outside of that very particular example, I'm part of a direct action organization and even though it's relatively small and its politics are activist-minded, rapid response is still very, very hard.
I just love thinking about, okay, where are the Gotei bottlenecks, what's the red tape, where's the sludge in the workings, where to the capacities fall through, what jobs haven't been invented that they really need, what jobs exist that really shouldn't, how much is logistical, how much is political, how much is cultural, how much is personal? *this is my bulletproof kiiiiiiink*
If it's going to take 4-12 hours to get all the officers in one place, it makes me think that yes, the alarms are going off, but it's a rapid response priority only for those who were assigned to quadrant 6 or whatever. Yes, this meeting call went out, but the threat is not yet at a level where you need to drop everything and haul ass. It's serious, but not more serious than the rippling consequences of ignoring the essential tasks you were already engaged in that are really going to fuck things up in domino-like ways if you don't do them right now.
For Ichigo et al, rescuing Rukia is Priority #1. For the Gotei, the ryoka invasion is this major world event that slammed on top of their already-full calendars of other shit they're supposed to do today. Big meeting? That's great, but it's going to have to wait or else a whole deployment's going to ship out late, the payroll office is going to close before those forms get signed, and Z isn't going to have the Y report that's required in order to start the X project.
3. What did the early bird VCs do the entire time they were sitting around in Conference Room 2 waiting for people to show up?
The meeting was called to address Ichimaru's behavior in dealing (or not dealing) with the ryoka, so we can assume it was called relatively quickly after Yamamoto got wind of that. Renji just took Rukia to Fancy Prison, but it doesn't seem like there's yet been dissemination of an official report, because he doesn't actually know if Ichigo got killed by Ichimaru or not. But the meeting is still going on when the ryoka invade successfully via The Sky.
In the interim, Ichigo et al hung out with the denizens of Junrinan, met Ganju, walked out to bumfuck to find Kuukaku's house, got introduced to the cannon and the cannonballs, practiced with the cannonballs, ate dinner, gained proficiency with the cannonballs, and blasted themselves through the sky.
Which makes it seem like the VCs who got there early literally did have to wait around for half a day before everyone showed up. Keep in mind THEIR MEETING DID NOT EVEN HAVE AN AGENDA. They were just supposed to stage in Conference Room 2!
So what did they do? Did they bring any work with them? Did they shoot the shit for six hours? Play games? Nap?
...Orgy?

BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War - The Separation episode 9 review
And after a week's break, the anime is back~. And we're continuing right where we left off.
Good thing Ichigo and the company bounced back to the action after Uryuu joined Yhwach and Jugram. It was a quick and shift moment, but I get a feeling it was mostly thanks to Chad's reassurance. Of course, Orihime too helped, but I feel like Chad got that small spotlight to be Ichigo's main support this time around which felt just nice.
It was also interesting to see shinigami picking themselves after that blast Yhwach and company left because in the manga there wasn't such a scene.
I must admit I was genuinely surprised we saw Iba and Komamura. That was just a nice addition the anime team made, along with Byakuya surrounded by the Quincies and Renji protecting Rukia from that blast. Little additions like those really add to things in the long run as those explain what happened to other characters when something was going on. Sure, it's nice to see the main gang in action and follow them, but it just gives this feeling of many characters and stories, when there are little bits like these in anime (and manga).
Lol! Renji talking smack about Bazz-B. xD Just for Bazz-B to compliment Renji. That was an adorable moment, even though Renji ended up pissing off Bazz-B with his chicken comment...like yes. It's nice chickens lay eggs and all, but I'm not sure if a guy would like such a compliment. Poor Bazz-B. His Burner Finger Four was very cool. Reminded me again just how good the animation is in Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War ~.
Oh, so they really went for that scene with Yumichika revealing Giselle isn't biologically a girl, huh? It really wasn't that clever way of Yumichika wanting to make more accurate points of Giselle. (And before anyone asks, yes, in the original TV-broadcast Yumichika uses the lines he uses in the manga. [Making that scene just tacky -at least from my mind.] In the international version they've censored that line and also Giselle's one line as far as I'm aware.) But I suppose they just wanted that scene to be added, because...I'm not sure. I don't think anyone would have minded if that scene had been fully scrapped, because what would have mattered in the end if we wouldn't have been sure of Giselle's biological gender? Giselle identifies herself as a girl, so it should have been fine. But I suppose for some reason or another, they just wanted to push that little niche fact about Giselle. At least they tried their best with that scene. That's all that I'll write about it.
Now moving on~. To be honest, I was dreading this part of the anime because zombies are a big nope to me. Luckily the zombies in this didn't look as bad as those could, otherwise, I would have had to skip quite a lot of content from this episode, as it centered around quite heavily around zombies.
I'm kind of glad Yoruichi was introduced in such a neutral manner, unlike in the manga. Now the focus was on the task of 'how to get Ichigo, Orihime, and Chad to Soul King's palace?' Kisuke's explanation was interesting and I'm glad we learned what Yoruichi was up to, since up until now we hadn't seen her! Not to mention what exactly was Hiyori's, Lisa's, and Hachigen's task at the World of the Living. This all actually made me question if Kisuke (and Mayuri) did foresee Yhwach going to the Royal Palace and if they allowed such a thing to happen on purpose. Because now remember, Kyoraku all but hinted Ichibe allowed on purpose such a thing to occur...is there a secret scheme going on or what? Because that all seemed like such a big mishap, I wouldn't say all was just 'pure coincidence'.
Seeing Yumichika and Ikkaku fighting against zombie Bambietta was very nice. They really work very well together and I believe before this we hadn't really seen them fighting together. At least I can't recall such an event as usually, they would work separately I recall Ikkaku insisted on fighting alone against his own opponent and Yumichika felt shamed for his kido skills. But this time around, it seemed like they had managed to solve such issues and worked together quite well. Too bad their fight against Bambietta was a short one. But it was nice to see sunflower!Mayuri enters the stage~.
Mayuri going against Bambietta and Giselle looked visually very cool. Though when Giselle brought her Gotei Thirteen zombies, I almost snorted when Mayuri explained he wouldn't be able to go against them because of the 'goodness of his heart'. Yeah, like he hadn't previously in his life killed many of his subordinates. Not at all! ...but in all seriousness, I think he just wanted to flaunt his own zombies to Giselle. (And yes, just moments later when Mayuri told off both Ikkaku and Yumichika, proved he is still the same old Mayuri. Now with more facts under his belt that he can use against other people to do what he wants, though.) A good way to bring out already dead characters.
I must admit, zombified Toshiro wearing a Wandenreich outfit suited somehow extremely well to him. I still feel sorry for him, though. The fact he turned into a zombie and now has to go against his allies...not good at all. But we all will see more about that in next week's episode as the whole zombie thing is still far from over! (Again, I'm happy the zombies don't look like typical ones.)

tell me about your time reversal au, that sounds so cool
Tumblr media
ALJSfhakjdsadsflk Okay yes thank you so much I am very excited about it haha (also sorry, this is very long, there's a lot going on)
Basically, the premise hinges on Orihime's powers. I feel like a lot of people tend to forget/ignore that her power isn't actually to heal. Her power is to reject reality, she just uses it to heal by erasing the injury's existence because she's a kind, good person, and that's what she does with it. She heals, and she creates shields, because all she wants is to defend and help (which is very cool, considering basically everyone else in Bleach is focused on offense/causing harm). Anyways, sorry for my little Orihime analysis tangent, but essentially, we are not entirely sure of the scope of Orihime's powers. We don't really know to what extent she can reject reality (and I have seen some really cool interpretations of what she's actually capable of in the right circumstances).
So the time reversal.... It essentially takes place during the Thousand Year Blood War. Yhwach and the Sternritter are winning. Ichigo and Orihime are pretty much the only ones still up and fighting. Most of the Shinigami as dead, the royal guard is down for the count, Urahara, Yoruichi, and Grimmjow have been poisoned and just barely managed to escape thanks to Nel. Nel is trying to get Urahara, Yoruichi, and Grimmjow to Ichigo and help, because they're the only feasible "back up" at this point, but Orihime is panicking, because she's watching Ichigo lose and die, and all she wanted to do was protect him.
Basically, she attempts to shield him from Yhwach, but due to her panic and desperation, her powers flare wildly out of control, and it's not one tiny piece of reality that she "rejects." It's all of the current reality, so it starts folding in on itself and resetting. Orihime's one thought during all of this is basically "Save Ichigo, I need Ichigo to live," and she's also coming to the conclusion that Ichigo is only here, fighting like this and dying and suffering because he is a Shinigami. Because of the Shinigami. So "save Ichigo" begins to equate to "do not let Ichigo become a Shinigami." Except all of reality is kind of too big of a target, and since Ichigo was born as a Shinigami, and the powers were just activated later in life, she can't exactly undo something like that, not even with her power.
So all her power and her wishes need to converge on something or someone else, since all of reality and Ichigo would essentially unravel basically everything. And there are only two people in the vicinity that are alive and not Shinigami, which are Nel and Grimmjow. And, as ridiculous as it is, Orihime has a better connection and trusts Grimmjow more than Nel (because Orihime never really got to interact much with Nel, and Grimmjow kept her safe during her time as Aizen's captive from Loly and Menoly, and he also insisted she heal Ichigo during that time. She knows he has a sense of honor, and by this point, doesn't actually want Ichigo dead).
So all her power converges on Grimmjow, and in accordance to her wish to make sure Ichigo is safe and does not end up a Shinigami, Grimmjow essentially gets pulled back in time, to right before Ichigo met Rukia and became a Shinigami.
Unfortunately, the universe is trying to compensate for this, because Orihime is not a god, and Grimmjow's memories of the previous reality get muddled and start disappearing fucking fast. Despite that, he has Orihime's wish in mind which is "don't let Ichigo become a Shinigami" and, despite the fact that he's quickly forgetting Ichigo, he knows he doesn't want him dead.
It doesn't take him long to find Ichigo (and by association, Orihime), and he knows, for some reason, he needs to keep them safe if he doesn't want to die (because Yhwach was going to kill everyone, and Ichigo and Orihime were the best bet for stopping him), so he kind of just... follows them around and watches them, but this is also before either one of them is acutely spiritually aware, so they can kind of sense someone is there? But they can't really see him
Until, like in the very first chapter, Rukia shows up, and Ichigo can see her. And also just like in canon, the Hollow attacks his family, and Rukia is injured trying to protect them. Everything is unfolding exactly as it did in the previous reality, with Rukia offering to transfer some of her powers to Ichigo so he can protect his family, which is what jumpstarted his own and eventually led to him fighting Yhwach.
Grimmjow, of course, is watching all this goes down, and hears Rukia's whole "become a Shinigami" spiel, essentially panics because his one instruction is to keep Ichigo from becoming a Shinigami, so before Rukia can stab Ichigo and transfer her powers, Grimmjow reasons "hey, if she can do that, I can do that" and then stabs Ichigo with his sword and transfers his powers instead.
Just like in canon, it's more than a fraction of the powers that Ichigo takes, and essentially gets all of Grimmjow's. Except that's Hollow power, not Shinigami power. So rather than becoming a Shinigami, that one action tips the balance of Ichigo's soul, and he ends up an arrancar instead of a Shinigami, and Grimmjow is left essentially powerless (in Rukia's place, as is what originally happened).
Rukia is horrified, but given her injuries, can't do much, and after Ichigo kills the Hollow that was attacking his family, all three of them pass out, and Urahara turns up.
Urahara senses something was up as soon as Grimmjow appeared in this reality, because obviously he is not supposed to be there, so he's also been keeping an eye on all of this. He sees all this goes down, and feels that it was... not quite right. Rukia was supposed to give Ichigo her power, and whoever this other guy is was not meant to be there
(Aizen off somewhere is also very confused by this turn of events).
Basically, several people are realizing something is not quite right here, but they don't know what. Even if they're smart enough to realize it's something to do with Grimmjow.
Much like in canon, Grimmjow is given a gigai while he waits for his powers to return, or for Urahara to get them back (and he is very pissy about the whole ordeal). Urahara tries to get some information out of him, but literally all Grimmjow knows is he couldn't let Ichigo become a Shinigami, and this all has something to do with Orihime.
Urahara convinces Rukia to stay in hiding with him while she heals, and not report this back to Soul Society because something strange is going on, and it won't look good for her if she lost to such a low level Hollow, and then let such a high level Hollow be created right in front of her, so she begrudgingly agrees to stay and help Urahara investigate the whole situation before she reports back.
Meanwhile Yoruichi is out looking for Orihime, because they need to talk to her about this. Of course, Orihime doesn't know anything, and she hasn't even developed her powers at this point, so no one can even guess that it might have had something to do with that. Yoruichi insists she come speak with Urahara about this, and Tatsuki refuses to let her go alone, so goes with them.
After everyone is on the same page (being, Ichigo is an arrancar, Rukia's keeping her mouth shut, Grimmjow knows he needs to protect Ichigo and Orihime but doesn't know why), they decide to start investigating what the actual fuck is going on, but while they're doing this, someone needs to take care of the Hollows in Karakura, because it can't be Rukia, because using her abilities could expose her, so she's stuck in a gigai similar to Grimmjow, so Ichigo is stuck taking care of that.
After that, things are unfolding in a similar order to canon, except Ichigo is an arrancar rather than a Shinigami, Grimmjow is there and never has any idea what's going on, Aizen and Urahara are scrambling to figure out where the hell Grimmjow came from and what this could mean, while Orihime works with Yoruichi and begins to cultivate her abilities (also, fun bonus, Tatsuki also trains with Yoruichi because she wants to help, and I just think it's very unfair that Tatsuki never got any fun abilities like Orihime or Chad, so she's getting some powers).
A few other major differences right at the beginning are that Uryu hates Ichigo even more because he realizes he's a Hollow now (and he can sense that something is off about Grimmjow too), it takes Rukia a bit more to get close with Ichigo because again... Hollow, and she's wary, Aizen's... slightly more erratic because he doesn't know exactly what's going on and doesn't like that, and Isshin gets involved a lot earlier on because his son just became a Hollow and that was not meant to happen.
Also, yes, this reality's version of Grimmjow also still exists, which will cause some... fun issues later on
But yeah! I am very lakdfjdkal about the whole idea and obsessively outlining the whole thing (I'm up to Rukia's execution so far), and it is so fun, I'm having such a good time

Grimmjow Headcanons Plus a Few x S/O ones
( pretty sure I read some of these somewhere but I forgot so here's a self indulgent list :)
Tumblr media
He died in his early twenties so he's still pretty young mentally but physically as a hollow he's old as hell
He's European
He takes a lot of naps in random places such as the roof of Las Noches
In fact he does a lot of cat like stuff and doesn’t realize it
He can purr but rarely and it’s mostly in his sleep
When he became an arrancar he had long hair similar to his release form. It kept getting in the way so he cut it
he doesn’t like wearing clothes
Him and his fraccion use to sleep close together in case they were ambushed by other adjuchas and still did even after they became arrancars
They didn’t think much of it. Except Di Roy. He’d say it was weird and ‘un-masculine’ to which Grim would tell him to shut up and go to sleep after laying an arm or a leg over his face.
Di Roy would also occasionally guilt trip him
Grimmjow: You’re too weak to fight with us.
Di Roy: I wouldn’t be if someone didn’t bite my face off.
Grimm:..........fine! do whatever you want. See if I care.
He was actually much closer to them than he let on
Most of the epsada knew it. Especially after Syazel threatened to experiment on them since they were ‘expendable.’ He did his best to avoid Grimmjow after that.
He only really got to grieve of their deaths when the war against Aizen ended
As much as he genuinely enjoyed fighting Ichigo it was also a distraction from all the pain he tried to burry
Harribel and Nelliel helped him with his grief
They became sort of friends afterwards tho he still tries to fight them both on a weekly basis
Refers to Pantera with female pronouns
One perk of most of Los Noches’ inhabitants being defeated is the nearly infant amount of space. So he was able to choose his own room
He keeps it surprisingly tidy aside from the nicknacks he’s hoarded from wandering around Hueco Mundo
His bed is full of pillows as a substitute of having a pack to sleep with
When asked he’ll say its for comfort
Nelliel: Have you seen my pillow?
Grimmjow: * sitting on it in his pillow pile* No.
He steals everyone’s stuff now and then but mostly Nel’s cuz he likes to mess with her ( insert low key sibling energy )
He talks to animals like people
Grimmjow: I told you to stop crossing the street at the red light idiot!
Cat: Meow
Grimm: Don’t talk back to me you little shit!!
Hangs out at Urahara’s place when he’s in the living world and not trying to fight Ichigo
Likes human food. Especially meat.
Grimmjow: *eating bacon for the first time* hmm tastes like hollows but better
Ichigo:.....I’m sorry what??!!
Was dared that he couldn’t beat Yoruichi at twister. He won five crates of snacks to bring back to Hueco Mundo ( may or may not have shared them cuz “ they gave me too much so take it or I’ll throw it out” )
Says things around the characters in the living world about his terrible experience under Aizen’s rule like it’s normal
Grimmjow: *having another rematch with Ichigo* Damn that almost hurt as much as Tousen slicing my arm off
Ichigo: *pauses the fight* Tousen did WHAT?!!
Becomes friends with Ichigo but won’t admit it.
Somewhat apologizes to Orihime and Rukia for what he did. But not Ichigo cuz he’ll do it all again but with less deadly intent.
Learns how to cook
Likes just about any kind of movie/show. He isn’t picky
Would get his 6 tattoo edited to something else if it bothered him
Would freakin die for Kazui!!!
Here are the S/O ones:
Is pansexual so gender isn’t an issue
Prefers someone who can beat him up but is ok with a human if he feels a very strong connection to them
Doesn’t really have a physical type honestly
Will admire things about their appearance cuz he likes it on them and not in general
Will be in complete denial about his feelings at first
Like “hollows aren’t meant to love” and all that ish
Makes up excuses to hangout with them but it’s mostly for his own benefit
“ I don’t like them. They just have a nice movie collection.” “ I don’t like them. They’re just nice to spar with.” “ I don’t like them. They’re just nice to talk to.” “I don’t like them. They just make me feel safe when I sleep next to them.”
Gives them random things he’s found when wondering around Hueco Undo’s desserts like gems and cool sharp bones
Let's them hold and even use Pantera
Starts to unconsciously turn off his hierro when he’s with them. It causes a lot of fliching and embarrassing gasps when they touch him since he’s not use to feeling so much
Did I mention he’s touch starved?
Like a lot.
Holding his hand for too long would literally kill him
Once he’s gotten use to feeling something other than pain from another person he starts to let them touch him more. Like hugs. Lots of hugs.
He even lets them rub his release form’s cat ears
Then here come the purrs. Louder than they’ve ever been before! It startles them both. He denied it but the blush gave him away.
He’ll do his best to purr more often since his s/o likes it so much. Such as when they’re cuddled up for a nap. Though he doesn’t really have to try.
Is confused as to why they like to squish his toe beans but lets them do it anyway
Wraps his tail around them in his release form
Will let them braid his long hair
Will also let them paint his claws as well as put makeup on him
He’s a total pushover ( insert the ‘please for me’ meme )
Is very protective of them
“ Why are you sad? Do I need to kill someone?”
If asked will follow his s/o when they’re out at night so they feel safe. Potential muggers? Thrown by an unknown force. Stalker? Punched by an unknown force. Cat callers in a car? Car gets flipped over by an unknown force.
Eventually no one bothers them at all cuz word goes around that they’re protected by a ghost or something else supernatural.
They’re of the few that can call him by a nickname and survive. Grimm, Grimmy, Grimmykins, Grimmy-kun, Kitty, Kitten, Catboy, Stinky cat, Baby boy, Baby boi, Big guy, Tough guy, My Arancar, My love, My one and only, Handsome, Blueberry. Literally anything is fine with him.
But call him My King and he’s done for. Dead. A second time. Deceased all over again. His heart will reform just to burst out of existence.
Takes them to Hueco Mundo a few times
Makes a pillow fort with them with his hoard of pillows
Will be skeptical as to why they like him and won’t be surprised if they get tired of him and break up
But oh no! They’re in it for the long run! You’re stuck with them Grimmykins:)
Would most likely say I love you without even realizing it till later
Grimm: *blushes* F*CK!!
Harribel: *pauses the meeting* Is there something wrong?
Grimm: I told Y/n that I love them before I left without realizing it! *puts his face in his hands and groans* I’m so screwed.
Nel: Well it’s about damn time!
Harribel: Congrats Grimmjow
Grimm: *groans and blushes some more*
If he really loves them he’ll find a way to weaken his immortality so they can grow old together ( yes it’ sappy but he figures he’ll get bored after they long gone )
Might go to Mayuri for help and becomes his lab rat in return. Won’t tell his s/o till it’s done so they won’t try to stop him.
It’s not fun. Like at all ( insert angsty fit energy here ). But it works and as an added bonus him and his s/o can have kids if they’d like
A great dad. Incredibly supportive and loving. Mess with them and you’re dead. Or at least scarred for life. No one messes with his cubs.
Grimm: Isn’t it weird that our kids are best friends?
Ichigo: No. We’re friends.
Grimm: I tried to kill you.
Ichigo: Who hasn’t?
Grimm: I’ll drink to that.
Ichigo: That’s a juice box.
Grimm: Have you seen my kids? The last time I wasn’t sober they ceroed the roof off and beat up a hollow. There’s no way I’m missing that again.

3&11 for Erich/Kisuke
(3: Accidental Marriage, 11: It’s not a date, we swear — Erich/Kisuke)
Erich sweeps his gaze over the collection of boxes starting to take up a good portion of Kisuke’s lab, then lets his breath hiss through his teeth. While he appreciates the chance to examine relics hoarded — and potentially made by — Yhwach’s hidden Quincy, the sheer volume is… daunting.
“And here’s the last of what we’ve found so far!” Yoruichi announces as she saunters in with yet another box packed to the brim with the detritus of a fallen empire. She drops it atop a stack of identical boxes then sets her hands on her hips and purses her lips, giving the crowded lab a look. “You sure you want to keep this between just you and Kisuke? It’s a lot for two people, and I’m sure the Twelfth would—”
“Absolutely not,” Erich cuts her off before she can offer, then glowers when she gives him an amused look. “Kisuke is one thing, but I’m not letting Shinigami paw through and attempt to decipher Quincy relics.”
“Well, it’s your time to burn, I guess,” she says with a shrug and another long look around the lab. “Good luck! Try not to get eaten by something!”
Erich snorts and shakes his head as Yoruichi saunters out of the lab, then turns around and gives Kisuke an amused look. “It’s like she forgets we’re capable of fighting, sometimes,” he says as he steps closer and peers into the box. He grimaces at the jumbled collection of things inside, trying to make sense of the mess of bottles, knives, cups, little boxes, and other random trinkets filling the box. “Where did they find all of this?” he asks in disbelief.
“Anywhere they could,” Kisuke answers with a laugh as he fishes up a small green bottle filled with some unknown liquid, then holds it up to the light and gives it a little shake. He hums in interest as the liquid seems to spark, bright pinpoints of light flaring and vanishing as if the thing is filled with glitter. “What do you think this is?”
“It’s an old fashioned glamour bottle,” Erich tells him, stretching up to pluck the bottle from Kisuke’s fingers. He tilts it from side to side, watching the play of light for a moment, then sets it aside. “It was common centuries ago, and our use of it played no small role in many legends of the fair folk or of hauntings. Sometimes a person just doesn’t want to look like themselves for a while.”
Kisuke hums and eyes the bottle again. “Ever used one yourself?”
Erich hesitates, debating how honest he wants to be, then finally shrugs and says, “We lost the knowledge of how to make them when my grandparents were infants, and used the last of our supply around that same time. So… no.”
Kisuke winces and gives an awkward laugh as he looks away, clearly drawing the correct conclusion immediately. His shoulders round in and he ducks his head, managing to look small. “You know, I’m surprised you’re letting me help you. Exile or not, I’m—”
“My friend,” Erich interjects as he elbows Kisuke’s side and gives the man a narrow look. “I think you’ve earned that much after everything we’ve been through.” When all Kisuke does is stare at him like he’s grown two heads, Erich glances up at the ceiling in exasperation. “Is it so odd to think that I could change my mind?”
“Er… well… no, but…”
“Then accept it and move on. We have work to do.” Erich fishes another glamour bottle from the box and sets it next to the first, then casts a sidelong, sly look at Kisuke and says, “Unless you’d rather tie yourself in knots instead of investigating these artifacts with me? It’ll take me longer, but I’m sure I can—”
“No, no, I’ll help, I’ll help!” Kisuke interrupts, an edge of laughter in his voice. He leans over the box and reaches in, pulling out a blunt dagger covered in rust, and wrinkles his nose. “Not very interested in upkeep, were they?” he asks as he sets it aside and reaches in again. “Half of this stuff is broken in some way, and the rest looks like its seen better days. Even these glamour bottles don’t look like they’ve been touched in ages.”
“They were chasing after an ideal that could never exist, and were mired deep in their fixation on revenge,” Erich reminds his friend as he sets about fishing out the rest of the glamour bottles from the box. With this many examples — and with Kisuke’s help — he might even be able to reverse engineer the damn things, though he refuses to get his hopes up. “When you let yourself get blinded like that… anything deemed unnecessary falls by the wayside,” he finishes sadly, remembering how his own country twisted in upon itself until he could barely recognize it — or his old companions — any more.
(War never led to anything good.)
(Never.)
Kisuke nudges him with a shoulder and arches an eyebrow in question, but says nothing when Erich shakes his head.
Instead, the two of them turn to emptying the box, laying the bits and pieces out on the table as they go. The more they dig out, the more certain Erich is that they’re looking at someone’s personal collection instead of a communal stockpile; beyond the glamour bottles, many of the things they’re pulling from the box have the look of items once well loved and often used, their power now fading from neglect and disuse. He doesn’t know if he’ll be able to decipher anything from the lingering remnants, but… he’ll try.
He’s always wanted to know more about his people’s lost skills, and here, now, he finally has a chance.
(He’s not letting this opportunity go.)
His hand brushes across Kisuke’s as they both reach into the box at the same time and grab—
Something sparks to life with the crackle-hiss of fading power, and Erich’s hand prickles as the power dances across his skin, leaving a shimmering, iridescent glow in its wake. Kisuke yelps dramatically and jumps back as Erich yanks his own hand away with a hiss, shaking it to dispel the feeling of pins and needles. He leans over and glowers down at the thing they’d both touched, trying to figure out what they’d set off and why.
It’s a decorative chalice, old and battered, with the stem shaped like a dragon and the cup held in the dragon’s front paws like an offering. Its mouth is open in a gaping, cheerful smile and its eyes are slanted in a way that reads like happiness to him, despite both of them missing whatever stone was once there.
Carefully, cautiously, he reaches into the box and touches the dragon, ready to yank his hand back if it reacts again, but it remains inert, as if it’s nothing but a simple, decorative piece instead of some sort of enchanted relic.
He pulls it out and grimaces at the damage done to it; one wing is gone and the other is twisted, the metal along its back is scuffed, its tail is cracked, and the rim of the cup itself is bent. All in all, it looks as if it was thrown against a wall in fury, then discarded and forgotten.
“What is it?” Kisuke asks as he presses close, peering over Erich’s shoulder at the chalice. “And why’d it react like that?”
“I have no idea,” Erich admits with a touch of amusement, turning the chalice around in his hands and running his thumb over the smooth sides of the cup. “I’ve never seen the like before, honestly, and whatever it did discharged most of its remaining power, so I can’t sense much from it anymore.” Nor can he tell anything from the chalice itself; there’s no writing that he can see anywhere on it beyond the maker’s mark on the bottom, but he doesn’t recognize that either, so… he has no idea what it could be.
“Kind of impractical, isn’t it?” Kisuke reaches for the chalice, then hesitates and pulls back before he finishes the action. “Doesn’t look like it’d be very comfortable to hold.”
“It was probably something ritual related,” Erich agrees as he turns and sets it on the table to one side. “Whatever it was, it didn’t feel malignant or dangerous, so we’re probably fine.”
“Probably, he says,” Kisuke teases with a smile, then picks the chalice up and starts to examine it. “And if we wake up in the morning with wings and scales?”
“Then I guess we’re going to learn how to be dragons,” Erich says, amused by the very idea. “I’m sure you’ll catch on quick.”
“Me? What about yourself?” Kisuke asks, eyes narrowed in suspicion. “Is there something you haven’t told me, Erich-san?”
Erich just smirks at Kisuke and turns away, chuckling at Kisuke’s squawk of protest. “If you really believe I wouldn’t have simply turned into a dragon the minute I was faced with Shinigami, I think you need to reassess your opinion of me.”
Kisuke huffs and sets the chalice aside. “Mou, Erich-san’s being mean.”
“Erich-san is only as mean as someone has earned,” he teases, bumping his shoulder against Kisuke’s arm and using that brief touch to assess Kisuke’s reiatsu. He doesn’t sense anything out of order, but without knowing what they touched he has no idea how quickly its effect will trigger, or if it already has.
He’ll just have to stay alert as they keep working, but… he has a good feeling about it.
Whatever that chalice was used for, he doubts it was anything nefarious.
(Now, if only he could say the same about the rest of it all…)
(Ah well, they’ll figure it out.)

i want to preface these thoughts by saying: by no way shape and form will i ever force my headcanons on my roleplay partner of the other character i have the headcanon with. These are just my thoughts and nor do I view muns of villains in a negative light, we all love characters just different types. it does not mean they, the muns, are bad people.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
my  ( undead )  izuru headcanons involve Gin/Aizen of course, whom both i love dearly with all my heart, and several other characters like Hisagi, Momo, Renji, and Matsumoto.  I will have a read more,   gore warning etc.  as this WILL get lengthy  ( going in depth about izuru’s state of consciousness leading up to,   the possible backlash,    etc. )
basically tl;dr    izuru kira becomes the epitome of despair.
After a blast in the chest from Bazz-B, obliterating his abdomen tossing his arm aside, Izuru barely “alive” is taken to Mayuri Kurotsuchi to be healed. Held together by a string of will to live, heavy poles, and enhanced by the reiatsu of Izuru’s fallen seated officers now standing at a captain’s level ( as stated by Shaz Domino in their battle in “Beginning of the revive of Tomorrow”. )
much of him ponders his existence:   how he is carrying the souls of the seated officers he was unable to protect, only to continue to fight for his pride as a gotei 13 member.   This mindset  has been the same since Gin Ichimaru left the gotei 13 with aizen in a beam of light, leaving Kira’s trust irreparable. his personality has always revolved around his comrades, his captain, the gotei 13  ( as many shinigami were indoctrinated to unquestioningly  [ i.e. he made momo bow before byakuya even though it was wrong to just allow  renji to be jailed horribly injured as he was. ]  believe to follow the rules and motions at the time making aizens plan easier, izuru is just another sleeper in the system. )
Tumblr media
this could be stated as a young shinigami he was impressionable, Aizen “I plan everything to a T” Sosuke stated how he chose Hinamori specifically for being his lieutenant so that he may manipulate her like a puppet for the events of the soul society arc.   (  which arguably pitted them against one another and ruined their [ hinamori and izuru’s ] relationship in my opinion  )    i highly suspect that Izuru was ALSO chosen through the same process that Hinamori was picked so that there were no flaws in this plan, as Gin was in with Aizen one hundred years prior.
now, I am not saying that Gin did not CARE for Izuru personally, I am saying that Gin had a mission and that was to kill aizen by any means necessary even if it meant getting others hurt. Gin played along with Aizen’s game, the manipulation, i even think he cared for Izuru to an extent before the end of their time together, but again he had a mission he had to accomplish. What I have always loved about BLEACH is how morally grey the characters are, and Gin alongside Tosen is a great example of these archtypes. Gin wanted to kill Aizen and return the shard of the Soul King back to Rangiku, what he sold his life away to for the person he loved most.
We know Izuru as a child was more free, chipper to tease and speculate over his and Hisagi’s strength only question what happened to make Kira such a gloomy person. Perhaps it is the exposure to being a soul reaper, but the drastic changes in his personality make me question what made Izuru the person we know now?    it’s only later on in my current re-reading of BLEACH in Izuru’s cell scene did i get the full extent of how uncomfortable it truly was at least for me.    A dilapitated cell,     scratched up,     broken chair,      blood splatter aross the floor, Izuru in a sling self loathing:
Tumblr media
Hinamori’s cell was not the same state being absolutely pristine, almost the same for Renji except more concrete than wooden. Kira put the loyalty to his Captain over the loyalty to his friend when it came down to the tension over Sosuke Aizen’s “death”  self loathing over what he had done.  All of this Damage had been done by himself, restrained for his own safety, conflicted over his own emotions:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Izuru was lead to rely and be loyal to Gin ( if not I think part of Kira on the inside was also TERRIFIED of Gin ),  leading to Izuru diverting Matsumoto after the central 46 slaughter although he tells Nayura from “Beginning of the Revive of Tomorrow” Gin did not tell him to fight Matsumoto the opposite is implied in the manga as well as matsumoto’s suspicions of some sort of manipulation  (  rangiku and izuru make up tho and drink so its gucci ) with a q&a of Kira’s after the soul society rebellion sounding lost, stating how he did not want ‘liars’ in his company. However, Hinamori’s q&a had a desire for life and to move on from the tragic events unlike Izuru’s prompt.
Tumblr media
Rose might be attached to Izuru, however, Izuru does not want to latch on to Rose and for something unmistakable to happen (  unable to trust, similar to the captain amagai arc in the anime except with one personality of strenuous trepidation and the other willing.  )
It’s always been his mindset to put the Gotei 13 before his friends ( who he loves very much, he worried about rangiku more than himself even though he was a human squirting ketchup bottle ),   he does not have any living family, nor does he seem to have any lingering positive feelings to himself   as now Kira needs to PROVE his worth. Later on in turn back the pendelum with Kisuke and Hiyori visiting maggots nest mentioning how there is no one who intentionally leaves the Gotei 13, implying that in the Gotei 13 you either die as a shinigami or are imprisoned for life.  Unquestioning loyalty is the unhealthy norm among all of them, even if it may seem endearing at times for the Division eleven members, etc.
[Undead] Izuru is just what he says: a ‘different Izuru’.
although it may be known that the hole in his chest exists, the extent that the mental state has deteriorated would be unknown to most of the people in his life. Just because of the change brought on by Ichigo and his friends does not mean that Soul society has truly made progress, many of the soul reapers linger on the old ways rather than moving forward. Shinigami are still very much sheep apart of the herd and without Kira voicing his concern about the state of being Izuru is in none would be the wiser or know about the souls essentially stapled against his own. Everyone would be complacent, silent... as possibly KIra could decend into a numb void pit similar to a Gillian.
How? Only Arrancar have been stated similar to Shinigami, but the backlash to having the souls pegged onto the motherboard would create some TYPE of hazard for Izuru in the future that would jeapordize his state of being. Here i propose this theory: Gillians are made of hollows intertwined with one another, although, most do not have any sense of individuality because of this make up,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1.)   izuru would eventually lose his sense of object permanence, individuality, perpetually putting his comrades in danger by his own presence that could lead to the harm or slaughter of shinigami and the people he once loved.
2.)   if the process of losing spiritual pressure is painful  ( i.e. how ichigo reacted in the manga when he passed out after mugetsu ) perhaps the same can be said for those who rapidly gain spiritual pressure/reiatsu over a short period of time.
(  in brave souls during his attacks he sounds like hes groaning or in pain.  )
3.)   interacting with izuru is a lot like pulling teeth,  to yank and  tear,   like the moon as a waning crescent his mentality is filled with the dysphoric aftermath.  Unable to turn a new page,   even with the war over,   izuru has not sought help for the gaping cavern that lays in his chest nor does he seem to want to...
(  izuru seems to be content with living alongside his companions day to day as if the days were the same before the TYBW   [ in rukia’s and renji’s getting-married novel he still has the hole because yoruichi tries to unclothe him to look at it ].     Unless kira himself comes to the conclusion that he has regained some sort of status within the gotei 13,     as lieutenant within division three there will be no redemption or acceptance to fill that gap.     it will be there haunting him,      a wound undisclosed with all expected to walk parallel never questioning  his state of being, he is detached from the world around him,  isolating himself for various reasons.    )
4.)    the arm that was blown off is mostly repaired as synthetic, izuru holds his arms and body irregularly    (  i.e.   how attacks with one arm only,    one shoulder is lifted higher than the other.  ) and can be ejected off with enough force if applied.
5.)    SPECULATION**//         his will to fight/kill might be affected,   as we have seen through ichigo,   is what drives a shinigami to gain power in their zanpakuto is their kill intent resolve.     He states that he is only fighting for his pride to gain his status back in the gotei 13, though he protected others, it was to a means to an end.   However,    his former resolve in battle was to the point of no doubt so it would vary by situation   (  i.e. “ can i protect this place?   we will see... “  )
6.)    no one knows about the souls basically stapled to Izuru’s body.     most likely people understand he had grown stronger without a bankai but not HOW.  The only people who know are Mayuri, Nemu ( who is dead), possibly Akon, and very few of those in the twelfth division but those would be sworn to silence.
7.)    a type of imposter syndrome.   believing that he is not the real izuru, since he did indeed die, combined with several different souls who could he be?   it’s why he becomes irrationally agitated when the events of TYBW or the hole inside his body is brought up, why has he not closed it?  truly he is frightened of what the answer might be and only clams up more aka linked back to #3
the reason i call him the epitome of despair is that he always had good intentions, he loves his friends endlessly, he serves his company with loyalty that would be expected of a perfect soldier, but he never had a chance from the start that he entered the academy.
he might have been able to save one girl inside of the central 46 that would go on to do big changes alongside the captain commander and nanao, but for Izuru already so much had been lost at one time significance had no meaning. his life had no meaning, all his faith in the system had been proven to be meaningless as corrupt, most of all he could not protect his comrades that were compounded to his body : how could he continue to be a shinigami in the gotei thirteen, a lieutenant no less? how could he protect others?
i don’t want to stereotype him as the “”””emo””””” type as he, at the core, is far from it even with and despite how gloomy Izuru reacts. He is, for the most part, a grounded level headed individual who is self disciplined, decisive even when it comes to battle that separates him from the rest of the lieutenants  ( he has a usual indecisiveness, but it can be worked to his advantage in some situations. )
Loyal,  soft spoken,  the friend you would WANT to have,  Izuru can still express emotion as the sheer panic and fright he had when yoruichi tried to disrobe him just to look at his hole was genuine enough. hell he even ran division three for a short time by himself, i think that is something to be recognized.
it’s not that he does not believe as the head of central 46 thinks, but that his reasoning for who he was wanes his existence. all of it is jarring, there would have to be some kind of backlash.
it would be easy to say ‘get orihime to heal him’ and ‘get it over with’ but orihime struggled to heal ichigo through ulquiorra’s cero that shot through his chest the first time because of the strong reiatsu that lingered. Bazz-B is a thousand year old quincy,  in comparison the effort would most likely exhaust orihime before she even finishes because of the residual energy that imprinted. Knowing how orihime’s powers work it relies on her mental fortitude, she is human and not indespensible, Kira sees this as a burden on the ryoka and would not ask this of them after all that Ichigo and his friends have done for them.
degradation was not personality/character improvement rather the focus of the marigold on his character was specific, and I am sure there would have been more if Kubo was not rushed by deadlines and illness. I feel like im repeating points by now so i think hopefully everyone gets the picture of what I mean, if anyone has any questions let me know!

Phoenix! Ichigo x Kisuke...? Also I really love your stories thx for getting me into bleach again
Always happy to hear I’ve dragged someone else into this hell with me lmao ;)
1. Kisuke doesn’t find out for the longest time, through Rukia’s almost-execution to the war against Aizen to Ichigo sacrificing part of his soul to the Fullbringers’ invasion, right up until the end of the Quincy war, when he and Yoruichi are about to get blown up because apparently a century of inactivity has done their skills no favours. A hundred years ago, he and Yoruichi would’ve eaten Askin for breakfast, but now they’re about to get killed right alongside their enemy, how pathetic. He spots movement out of the corner of his eye, recognizes Ichigo’s favourite Arrancar, and wishes he could toss the woman right back out because there’s no way she’s going to survive this either.
Far above them, in another dimension entirely, Ichigo dispatches Yhwach once and for all. He’s barely retracted his blade when two of the threads of soulfire he attached to his most precious people twist like they haven’t since his mom died, and in that moment, he doesn’t care who sees - his Zanpakutou disperses into a haze of black shadows, and between one blink and the next, he reaches for the two people at the other end, and lets his soulfire consume him. He jumps, burns himself into existence right in front of a - for once - openly shocked and terribly injured Kisuke, pauses long enough to engulf him, Yoruichi, and Nel in his fire, and then he jumps again, yanking his passengers with him just as something detonates.
Kisuke wakes up at the Fourth, triple-checks his memory to make sure that yes, Ichigo did appear in a burst of flames to save them, and yes, he did turn into an orange bird and cry on him and Yoruichi, which healed the worst of their injuries within seconds. Kisuke passed out sometime after that, but he knows what he saw, and the first thing he does after making sure Unohana isn’t lurking anywhere is to check on Yoruichi before escaping to hunt down Ichigo.
He finds him at the Fifth, bickering with Shinji while a reiatsu-shackled Aizen lounges in a corner of the room. Kisuke assumes it’s because nobody has anywhere to stash the man at the moment what with half the prison destroyed so they’ve dumped him on his old captain in the meantime, and he ignores the knowing smirk Aizen tips at him when he shunpos in, eyes already on Ichigo.
Ichigo looks normal enough (but too pretty in the right light, more beautiful every day and Kisuke really shouldn’t be noticing things like that), no fire or feathers in sight, but when he glances up upon Kisuke’s entrance, his eyes flash like flickering candles for a moment, and Kisuke wants.
He’s always been attracted to things that can surprise him, things he can’t instantly predict, things that draw his eye and make him stare, things that he probably has no right to want in the first place. But Ichigo has always been all of these and more, and Kisuke’s given up on denying the truth, if only to himself. He can admire from a distance, and this new development of Ichigo’s at least gives him something new to explore and an excuse to spend more time with the object of his affections.
2. Ichigo was warned very seriously by his mother about revealing what he is. Their kind are rare enough; their powers would be highly coveted if people knew. So for years, Ichigo hid what he was, never pulls it out even when he’s on the brink of death because even if he dies, it isn’t as if he won’t come back. He warns his sisters of the same, and the only place they ever flame to with their soulfire is the nest their mother inherited from her mother, high up in the mountains where no humans can reach. And then he’s eighteen with two wars and several invasions and more near-deaths than he can count under his belt, and Kisuke knows. He asks, because of course he does, curiosity shining in his eyes in a way that makes him look younger and more genuine than Ichigo’s ever seen him. And Kisuke’s pulled a lot of shit over the years, but he’s also one of the few people Ichigo has never really doubted to have his back when it counted. Besides, Kisuke is probably the last person who would run to the Shinigami about anything out of the ordinary. Ichigo’s definitely more worried about Aizen spilling the beans - if nothing else, he’d seen Ichigo disappear in a burst of flames - but so far, the sort-of-prisoner hasn’t said anything, so Ichigo figures he might as well not borrow trouble.
Instead, he drags Kisuke back to the empty Shouten before flaming both of them to the Kurosaki family nest, which is technically less a nest and more a very large domicile constructed of an interconnected series of tunnels and caves, tucked away in the mountains and cocooned by thick crisscrossing tree branches that prevents the cold from seeping in. They don’t even get further than the entrance hall before Kisuke is already wandering off, enraptured by the foreign interlocking runes shimmering faintly along the arching branches of the doorway. Ichigo rolls his eyes and leaves him to it. It looks like they’ll be here for a while so he might as well find whip up a meal for both of them. He very much doubts Kisuke ate anything before going to find him.
3. After Kisuke finds out, Ichigo gifts him one of his tail feathers, bonds it to the man’s soul so that it’ll automatically revive him in the worst-case scenario, and he tells him to keep it close. Kisuke cradles it in his hands like something infinitely priceless, which it actually is, but he also looks at Ichigo with an expression full of a terribly fragile sort of awe, and Ichigo wonders when the shopkeeper will actually realize what it means for phoenixes to be creatures of empathy and belief and emotion. He’s known for months exactly what Kisuke feels for him, felt the first stirrings of it as far back as the aftermath of the Winter War, felt it from the Shouten in a corner of his mind like the comforting crackle of a fire in the middle of winter all through those seventeen months when he’d considered - more than once - killing himself just to get rid of the ache in his chest, and it had only grown since then. Ichigo knows the warmth of it, like a hot bath or a long hug or a warm meal waiting for him after a long day, and how can he not cherish that when it comes from a man who has always been so selective of those he cares about? So Ichigo knows, and reciprocates, and now he’s just waiting for Kisuke to catch up.
4. The day Kisuke uses the feather Ichigo gives him, it’s to revive Yoruichi, her body still warm from battle and the bloody wound that killed her. Ichigo wasn’t even there for that. He felt the heart-jerking tug of alarm in the soulfire bond he tagged her with, but it was almost immediately alleviated, along with the flash-fire feel of one of his feathers - Kisuke’s feather - disappearing, so he assumed everything turned out alright and continued making his way to the latest bad guy who decided Soul Society needed some good old architectural reconstruction. He only finds out the details afterwards, when Kisuke approaches him looking a little like the world’s ended and a lot like he’s bracing for punishment, and confesses like it’s some kind of sin. And alright, it is technically against every known phoenix custom to use a feather freely gifted by a phoenix on someone else, practically taboo, definitely an insult, and Kisuke would know that because he’s spent more time reading up on phoenixes than Ichigo has, but Ichigo’s never been much for tradition anyway, and it isn’t as if he’d ever expect Kisuke to just let Yoruichi stay dead when he can help it. That would be like Kisuke expecting Ichigo to do nothing if his sisters were in danger. He tells the man as much, with a roll of his eyes, and honestly doesn’t understand why the shopkeeper looks so shocked when Ichigo just gives him another feather.
“It’s fine,” Ichigo shrugs. “If you really need to use them, I don’t mind giving you more. I mean, don’t use them for just anyone, even I’d run out of soul to give-” Kisuke flinches a little, and Ichigo sighs and leans into him, shoulder meeting shoulder, before continuing, “-but if it’s you, I don’t mind.”
Kisuke accepts the feather, still looking at it like he thinks he doesn’t deserve it, but he nods and promises to use them wisely, and then he kisses Ichigo, slow and careful like he thinks Ichigo might disappear if he presses too hard. Ichigo smiles into the kiss and pulls Kisuke in and coaxes him into something less cautious, because he isn’t breakable, and honestly, it’s about time.
5. The first time Ichigo dies, it’s when he takes a blow across the chest meant for Kisuke. The Kidou spell cuts into him, through him, practically bisecting him, and the last thing he hears before the world goes dark is Kisuke screaming his name.
When he opens his eyes again, he’s small and weak and cold. He’s in bird form, with molting feathers and so little reiatsu a determined rabbit could come along and kill him and he wouldn’t be able to do anything. But then there are hands scooping him up, cradling him in familiar bloodstained palms, and his soulfire immediately sparks around him, searing away the liquid, absorbing the lingering essence from it, making that strength his own. Above him, Kisuke murmurs something Ichigo can’t quite make out yet, but he isn’t surprised when several seconds later, he’s lowered into the chest cavity of a a very mutilated corpse, the ribs cracked open, the heart still warm. Ichigo tears into the organ hungrily, ignoring the mess he’s making. He hears Kisuke bustling around, dragging more bodies closer. The man’s read half the Kurosaki library already; he knows what a phoenix needs to recover.
By the time Ichigo is full, he’s regained enough of his senses to realize the absolute massacre that the battlefield’s been reduced to. Kisuke must’ve lost his temper, which is… flattering, actually. When the man picks him up again, Ichigo preens and trills his appreciation. Kisuke doesn’t understand of course, but Ichigo gets a good look at his face this time, and some of the frantic stress lines creasing his features smooth away, although the wild look in his eyes has yet to fade, and the red of Benihime’s power still rings both his pupils.
Later, much later, when Ichigo is human-shaped and human-sized again, Kisuke curls around him in bed, one hand splayed over his back like a brand, like he can keep Ichigo safe just by keeping him here.
“Don’t ever do that again,” Kisuke whispers harshly, but there’s something resigned in his voice, like he already knows the answer.
“I make no promises,” Ichigo replies anyway, but he also adds, “I’ll always come back though. I can promise that.”
Kisuke’s fingers dig briefly into Ichigo’s back before relaxing again, and then pulling him even closer. “I’m holding you to that then.”

Penumbra
Just an Ichiruki canon divergent type story I’m taking a crack at.
This takes place a few years after the Quincy war.
Chapter One: Waning
Winter in the Seireitei was arguably even more frigid than it was in the real world. The chilling air seeping into every crack and crevice, freezing the citizens to the bone. Lower districts suffered the most, its poor residents struggling to keep warm. Huddling together like penguins to stave off frostbite and lost toes. And years of enduring it as a boy left a bad taste in one Renji Abarai’s mouth.
The restless lieutenant walked silently through the upper echelons of the Seireitei, Zabimaru tout by his side. His stride long and somber as he moved through the fortunate streets. The posh smiles of other souls sickening him to some degree. Their whisperings and hushed voices undoubtedly about him. The lieutenant adjusted his heavy cloak so he could avoid meeting their gaze. Renji had been to and seen hell, while these people hid and scattered like roaches. But he would ultimately pay their judgement no mind. After all, he had a more pressing concern; like finding his fiancee.
At long last, the shinigami reached his destination: The Shihouin estate.
Its gates opened before him, grandiose as always. A slew of servants filed out, forming symmetrically at the edge of the path. The respectfully bowed toward him, a Noble formality he'd come to hate. The head servant, a woman who’s name he hadn’t bothered to remember, guided him inside to meet her mistress. Renji followed the diminutive woman inside to a decadent living room where an old friend sat lazily.
“Mistress, you have a guest.” the servant spoke.
Yoruichi looked up to see who had interrupted her midday snacking, only to see Renji give off his familiar scowl. The reinstated head of the Shihouin clan fired back with a coy smile, then continued to nibble on a pocky stick.
With a wave of her hand, the attendant left the room, leaving Renji and her alone.
“Well? What are you waiting for? Sit.” Yoruichi coaxed “You are my guest, no?”
With a heavy sigh, Renji waltzed over, propping his zanpakuto against an adjacent pillar. He removed his thick cloak, laying it beside him as he made himself comfortable. Yoruichi’s sofa was soft, almost too soft as he felt his body sink into the cushions. In an attempt to start the conversation, Yoruichi pointed the open pocky box in Renji’s direction.
“Want one?” She asked with a purr.
“Where is Rukia?” Renji barked.
“Wow, straight to the point. Oh well, more for me.”
“Yoruichi…”
The Lieutenant eyes spoke volumes. He clearly wasn't in the mood for games. The Shihouin head rolled her eyes at his seriousness, laying her beloved snack on a nearby table. She refined her posture, crossed one leg over the other as she often did and spoke truthfully.
“I haven’t seen her in weeks, Renji. No one has.” Yoruichi answered his looming question.
Renji then slouched down, angrily muttering profanities to himself. Anyone could see he was distraught; he’d proposed to Rukia a mere 3 months ago. Now she just drops off the face of the Soul Society without telling anyone. Not Byakuya or any of the other captains, Not Kisuke or Yoruichi, and certainly not him. His only clue was a note reading 'don't look for me'. It was mind-numbingly frustrating to say the least.
Renji was so deep in thought, he hadn’t noticed Yoruichi scoot beside him. The forlorn Shinigami only broke his trance when she put her hand on his shoulder.
“Renji, I’m sure she’s fine.”
“But what if she’s been kidnapped?! What if she needs my help and I’m just sitting on my ass doing nothing?!”
“Renji… You, Rukia and Ichigo have faced down every person that has threatened the Soul Society. There’s no one left strong enough to even pose a challenge. Yhwach is gone. The Wandenreich are gone. So stop fussing over her safety. Rukia probably just needs some time for herself. And.. if that’s the case, she‘ll come back.”
The Shihouin Head’s words just barely set him at ease. With a quick jolt, he rose from his seat, fists clenched tight. The worry on his face or his heart hadn’t diminished as much as she had wanted. Slightly defeated, he made his way for the gate.
“Sorry but I can’t stay. It was good to see you, Lady Shihouin.”
An obvious and poor attempt to jab at her. At least he was trying.
“Have you talked to Ichigo yet?” Yoruichi asked curiously.
“No, but I’m headed to Karakura next.”
“Okay… stay safe.”
A nod was all she got in response. She walked him out; all the while surrounded by her entourage of servants and attendants. The lot of them bowed diligently as the lieutenant wearily made his way off the estate. As the old friends waved each other off, the gates cut off their view of one another.
Her many servants dispersed, leaving her to saunter back to enjoy the rest of her snacks. Before she could even take off her sandals however, a voice came from beyond the foyer.
“Is he gone?” the diminutive voice asked.
“Yes. He is.” Yoruichi responded.
“Good.”
The owner of the little voice traipsed out of the darkness. Illuminated by the light of the afternoon, a very nervous and also very pregnant Rukia met eyes with her confidant. A disappointed Yoruichi crossed her arms at the expecting mother. Rukia smiled timidly only to wince in pain, grabbing hold of her ever-growing baby bump. The Flash goddess was by her friend’s side in the blink of an eye, fearing the worst.
"Are you okay?" Yoruichi frantically asked, helping Rukia maintain her balance.
“Yoruichi, stop. I’m fine… really. She just kicked.”  Rukia explained, trying to calm her old friend.
“Wait. She?” She exclaimed in bewilderment.
“Mhmmm. Isane said it was a girl. Here, Wanna feel?”
Rukia calmly guided her friend’s hand to the spot her little one had made herself known. Yoruichi pressed her palm gently over Rukia’s stomach; to feel a tiny foot press back. The moment was precious, the both of them nearly began to cry. Using what strength they had, they forced it into a teary eyed chuckle instead.
“Alright, no more fooling around. You should be resting Okaa-chan.” Yoruichi chided.
Rukia chucked, rolling her eyes as they walked back to the guest room she’d been secretly staying in. But the manner of Renji’s visit had both of them troubled. Renji did love her enough to go looking for her, but how long until Ichigo came looking as well? He was Ichigo after all. Nothing on heaven and earth could stop him once he was invested in something. As Rukia pondered, Yoruichi had some questions of her own.
“Do you plan on telling Ichigo about his child?” She asked, her voice solemn and rigid.
Rukia looked up into her friend’s golden eyes “I don’t know if I can…”
“Well, one of these days, you’re not gonna have a choice.” Yoruichi once again lectured.
“I kno-”
“Do you? Rukia, I’ve lied to everyone I could for you. Hidden you away from your family, friends and your fiance. All so you could keep Ichigo’s child. Do you really understand the ramifications of what you’re doing.”
Caught in her frustration, Yoruichi hadn’t realized Rukia had become to cry. Tears streamed from the expectant mother’s eyes as she slumped to her knees. She buried her swelling eyes into her palms. The petite woman continually wiped at her cheeks, only for more tears to take their place. Knowing she’d said too much too soon, Yoruichi comforted her as best she could.
“Rukia, I’m sorry. That was exce-”
“No… you’re right. You’re absolutely right. I’ve asked so much of you. All for the sake of my child that I'm not even sure I'll get to see grow up. Yet I can't bring myself to get rid of it because it’s the only proof I have that he loved me.”
The small woman continued to bawl in the middle of the hallway, the noise of her sobs echoing off the walls. The deafening silence of the manor made Rukia’s sobs even more poignant. Yoruichi had fully embraced her by this point, stroking her hair to help calm her. Rukia’s relationship with Kurosaki had always raised Yoruichi’s attention, but she never would’ve guessed how far they went. That this whole fiasco was a sign; a sign Rukia was still hopelessly in love with Ichigo. Even though her child would likely never know her parents, Rukia had every intention of bringing her to term. A resolve Yoruichi would have to match.
“Okay. As your friend, I will help you through this. No matter what. But I do have one last question. Why haven’t called off your engagement? Or talked to Byakuya?”
“Because I’d be disowned. What future would my daughter have then?”
“Ichigo would take you in. I’m sure he would.”
“I’m not so sure. We haven’t spoken since… well, y’know. And if I suddenly went back with our child my arms. There’s no telling how he would react. Not to mention his engagement...”
Rukia had been plagued by uncertainty ever since Isane did her ultrasound. Every question her mind created led to more stress. Stress that threatened both her daughter and her. So Rukia had stopped thinking about it altogether. And it showed.
The elder shinigami doled out a heavy sigh, unsure of what to be more baffled by; that fact she willingly let herself get caught in this debacle or Rukia’s surprising lack of a plan. Well she’d already come this far with Rukia, she would have to see it through to the end.
“Oh dear, what did I do to deserve this.”

Shattered Chains of Fate Ch. 8
Not Yet Too Late
When they are tossed unceremoniously out the gate of the Dangai (and hell, Ichigo never thought he’d miss the vertigo of a Ray Shift before) Ichigo and Yoroichi are the only ones who land on their feet. Orihime breaks their fall with one of her barriers. Seeing it in action, three pronged and glowing, helps him file away what she can do for later.
 He starts looking around.
They’re in a village, one that’s empty and devoid of life. Seemingly. Ichigo sees shadows move in the buildings. Okay. Not ideal. Nothing good comes from dropping right in the middle of civilization. It always leads to a fight. London had been a shit show and a half.
At least he can see now. And what he sees, down the road, is unmistakable.
“Is that Seireitei?” Ichigo asks aloud. A sprawling city with the harsh edges and an oppressive aura of order and structure. There was a thin line the separate the streets there, shining and well kept, from even the nice enough streets they stood upon. Ichigo knew it for what it was even if Kyo hadn’t told him about it before. He can recognize a military compound for what it is.
“Yes,” Yoruichi comes to stand at his feet. “Right now we’re in the Rukongai, the outskirts of the soul society. This is the part of the soul society where the most souls live, and also the poorest part.”
Ichigo doesn’t respond as Yoruichi explains it to his friends who don’t know.
He eyes the line in the ground.
“They’ll know we’re here,” he said abruptly. “We need to move away from here. Our entrance was too flashy, and the people in these houses probably won’t keep us a secret. Yoruichi, the Seireitei. Does is have some kind of bounded field?”
There was no way a military complex didn’t have defenses, no matter how it looked right there.
“...Yes. There’s a wall that will fall should anyone try to cross the threshold without a permit. On top of that, there’s a gate guardian who will not let anyone past him.”
“That’s fine. Okay,” Ichigo ran his fingers through his hair, gathering it all to the back of his head. He tied it into a tight, short pony tail. “We need a base of operations so we can figure out how to get in. We’re short on time but still… I’d like to avoid rushing in head first.”
If it was just him, he probably wouldn’t be so cautious. If it was him, Mash, Cu, and Medusa he would have no hesitation. Break in, make a fuss, and disappear into the veritable maze he knows stretches out. Kyo had told him once how easy it was to get lost if you didn’t know where he was going.
 Joy.
Yoruichi is giving him the strangest look, but she doesn’t argue.
“You’re right. Come with me. I have a friend nearby who I believe will be willing to help us.”
 “Sure.”
Ichigo casts one last look at the Seireitei and follows after the black cat leading their path.
Just wait for me a little longer Rukia. I swear. I will come save you.
       *
 Three days.
Kisuke has been training Ichigo Kurosaki for three days when Yoruichi finally comes back from where she’s taken his two young friends for their own training. It leaves a bad taste in his mouth, this whole plan.
Not their ages, though they are infants by shinigami time. Smaller people than them are made killers, as Kisuke himself well knows. He was barely taller than Jinta when he had met Yoruichi, and scarcely five years older than that when she first handed him envelope of thick, expensive paper. The parchment itself had been worth more money than he’d seen in his entire first century of after-life. The life inside of it, worth somehow more and less.
He knew, understood intimately, how far a person could go for their friends. As far as follow them into a dark, dangerous new world.
They don’t have a lot of options, other than to train these teenagers to the best of their abilities. He, Tessei, Yoruichi and the Visord are all banned completely from the Soul Society. Shy of destroying the defending, interdimensional barrier that binds them, there’s no way for them to go in.
While he could, if he did then they would be faced with Yamamoto and the terrible two, Ukitake and Kyoraku, the second they stepped foot in rukongai. Even Kisuke, with his clever plans and deadly edge, can’t stand against the overwhelming power of Yamamoto’s burning blade.
That’s not even to mention the other two captains, who are kind only when they can be.
Kisuke had been young still, just a tetchy little first year in the academy, who hadn’t yet learned to hide completely behind his smiles, under Shihoin sponsorship the last year of the Quincy war.
He can remember intimately, horribly, the dark look in Yoruichi’s eyes when she walked back into the Shihoin manor with the two trailing after her. It had been the first time Kisuke had ever seen the two, and the affable captain of the eighth and the gentle commander of the thirteenth were no where to be seen.
They were commanders in a war of extermination, with shadows in the their eyes, and a hand on a blade at all times. Everything about them had been dangerous, weary dogs barely leashed to their master. Ready for the next fight, ready for the next kill. They hadn’t had the luxury of mercy then.
If any of them are caught in Seireitei, there will be no luxury allowed from the Central 46.
But these teenagers are young. The old guard, Yamamoto, Unohana, and Yamamoto’s first two students like to pretend that they’re no longer wolves. Kisuke is forced to bank on the idea that they will go after these children with as much mercy as they will be allowed.
 That was the plan.
It had started as a contingency plan when Masaki and Isshin had first come to him with news of her pregnancy. A dark scheme that he wanted to discard, but he wasn’t able to. A child with the blood of a great shinigami line and a long standing quincy one. Half blooded on both sides, with the potential of a natural born hollow inside his soul.
(Kisuke’s hands have itched for years to see this boy, to find out what he could do, where his tendencies lay.
Then Masaki had died, and Isshin had forbidden any of them from coming near the Kurosaki house. Even Kisuke has enough respect for that.)
The plan      was    a hail mary that banked on the better nature of war veterans and murderers, and Yoruichi’s ability to train and keep track of human teenagers. She’ll have more luck herding cats.
     Was    .
 Now, things have changed.
Ichigo lies a hundred yards away in a crater, his arms stretched out and his breathing even. Even asleep, he’s not let go of his sword.
Yoruichi sits at his side, her tail curled around her front paws.
“He really just meditated and woke up his powers?” Kisuke has to ask again. It’s the second time. Rarely does he need something repeated but this… This is a bit different.
“Mmmm. He was in a house that wasn’t his families. It only smelled like him and the mod soul, Kon. I didn’t get to see everything, obviously. I’m not sure what he did. He said, and I quote, ‘Fucking everyone is so damn cryptic all the time’. And then, ‘a backwards ray shift’. After that he slipped into something like jinzen. His reitsu changed while he was meditating, and you know the rest.”
Kisuke frowned deeply. “Who was being cryptic?”
“I couldn’t tell you,” Yoruichi shakes her head. “He’s a strange kid, Kisuke.”
“That’s putting it mildly. Have you seen him fight? I’ve never seen anyone that refined and that coarse in the same time.”
“He doesn’t have a single particular style,” Yoruichi agreed. “But it’s clear he knows several different ones, and is at least proficient in each. Did you notice he’s ambidextrous?”
“Mhmm. I did. Did you notice his soul looks older than his body?”
Kisuke is reluctant to admit it, but he might have to talk to Isshin about this.
He should be more worried. He is, his mind spinning a hundred paranoid ideas. Everything from Aizen has already gotten to Ichigo, even though he knows that’s impossible right now, to Ichigo has been replaced by a clone that Kisuke didn’t make.
 * *
They finally lure the people out of hiding so Yoruichi can ask the leader of the village for someone named Kukaku.
Shiba Kukaku. If Ichigo recalls, Kyo had once told him that Shiba were a strange type of royalty in the Seireitei. Not as stuck up as the rest of the noblemen, who Kyo quietly despised (he’d never been good enough at lying to hide all of his vitriol from Ichigo) they were a rowdy bunch that blew things up a lot.
Not exactly stealthy, but Ichigo was willing to go along with whatever Yoruichi’s plan was for now. Clearly she knew what she was doing. She and Urahara, and probably Tessai and the kids, were undoubtedly from here. What happened and why they were in the world of the living was none of his business.
They were in the middle of talking to the old man when the door burst open and a pig launched a man off of her(?) back.
Ichigo caught him effortlessly around the middle.
“Ah! She threw me again!” The stranger shouted, far to close to Ichigo’s ear. Ichigo set him on his feet.
“Careful,” he advised. The man dusts his pants off and finally looks to Ichigo.
“I’m fine, I’m fine. It happens all… the… time?” He stares. Ichigo can see the flip switched in his head, and suddenly he’d ducking a punch. “A punk ass shinigami!”
“Hey. Don’t be rude,” Ichigo says with no sense of irony at all. The man is broad, strong, with a bandana over his black hair and goggles over his eyes.
 “What are you doing here?!”
Ichigo just stared at him. This guy was so rowdy. They really didn’t have time to be dealing with him…
Of course, he got right in Ichigo’s face. He even patted his cheek patronizingly.
“Didn’t you hear me? I asked what a punk ass shinigami like you is-”
When Ichigo punches him he goes flying right back through the wall.
“...huh,” Ichigo says idly. “I tried to hold back.”
That training with Urahara must have done him more good than he first thought.
He picks his way through the broken wall to find his attacker knocked out on the ground.
 “Oh. Well that happened.”
He shrugs it off and goes back inside to sit beside Yoruichi in front of a bug eyed mayor while a bunch of punks riding literal hogs surround the guy Ichigo knocked out.
“Anyhow. You were saying your friend lives somewhere around here, weren’t you?”
“....yes. We will have to find Kukaku’s house, but I believe that she will help us.”
“How is she going to get us into Seireitei? If the walls come down and there’s guards at the gate that cuts off the direct route.”
 “You’re not wrong.”
Yoruichi explains that the Seireitei is surrounded on all sides by a spirit barrier. No amount of spirit energy will serve them any good. Which is irritating. If it was spells or a bounded field they could maybe find a way to wind through them or hack past the barriers, like Flat does as easy as breathing. But if it’s that secure, above and bellow, Ichigo really has no choice but to trust Yoruichi to know what she’s doing.
He doesn’t have any better ideas, certainly. So they set off to find this Kukaku Shiba.
The only problem is that she is, apparently, the older sister of the guy Ichigo KO’d. And that’s how Ichigo finds himself running away from a woman with one arm and a hand full of bombs.
 How is this his life?
Yoruichi manages to smooth things over by explaining that Ganju had started everything and Ichigo had only hit him once. Then the scolding goes from Kukaku on Ichigo to Kukaku on Ganju.
“And I thought I had weird family dynamics,” Ichigo muttered to Uryu, who’s been watching the whole ordeal like it’s a sitcom.
“Your family dynamics are weird,” Uryu replies without missing a beat.
Ichigo snorts, but shuts up when Kukaku turns to them.
“Alright. Since this is Yoruichi and Urahara asking me, I can’t say no to this job. But I don’t trust you kids. So once Ganju,” Who had been dragged home by the hog riders while Ichigo’s group was looking for the house, “Wakes up, he’ll be going with you.”
First Ichigo knocked him out, then his own sister. Ichigo is starting to pity the fool.
 Which was just great.
“Fine,” Ichigo mentally starts changing his plans again around the new arrival. It’ll add friction. Ganju clearly hates shinigami, but if they’re going up against shinigami hopefully the common enemy will help smooth over the enmity.
“But first, how exactly are you planning on getting us in there?”
 “Huh? I’ll show you.”
Kukaku leads them into the bowels of the house, until they’re standing in a dark room and looking up at a round chimney that Ichigo knows extends high outside.
“I’m going to get you in through the sky!”
“...fuck me,” Ichigo says. “It’s a canon.”
Please dear god let this be less terrifying than being shot into the sky on a bow.
“That’s right! You’re looking at the number one fireworks maker, Kukaku Shiba!”
 Fuck.
 “Okay.”
Kukaku tosses a ball his way. Ichigo turns it over in his hands, inspecting it curiously. There’s a design on it that reminds him vaguely of a phoenix and star wars. The door slides open while Ichigo is inspecting it, and Ganju steps inside. He’s got a nasty black eye.
“Focus your energy in there,” she orders.
Ichigo, who has spent five years pouring his mana and reiryoku into literally dozens of people, does just that. It’s as easy as breathing. A light flickers and he finds himself in a perfect sphere that glows so brightly with his energy it threatens to blind even him. Beyond the confines he can hear his friends shout. So he cuts off the pouring of power and drops the ball to the floor.
 “Was that right?” he asks.
The dropped jaw on Kukaku’s face was enough of an answer.
Ichigo always has been good at making impressions.
“Yeah,” she says at last, recovering faster than Ichigo was expecting. “That’ll work. My men will take you to the training room for some more practice. If it’s not perfect by tomorrow, you’ll blow up on entry.”
 Ichigo doesn’t even blink.
 “I understand. Thanks.”
While they’re walking away, Ichigo takes a look back just in time to see Ganju’s face twisted in unmistakable pain.
 * * *
Tea steams across the table, twirling in the light of the overhead. The kettle sits on the counter, unplugged but still hot and ready to use. The wonders of human convenience.
Isshin sits across from Kisuke on the low table, his eyes strangely dark, his customary smile missing. It’s frankly disturbing, and a good sign of the times.
“So,” Isshin starts. “Why did you call? I doubt it’s a social call.”
Indeed, his son has just left on a potential suicide mission to save a girl he barely knows on grounds of a favor that he owes. It’s such a Shiba thing to do.
Ichigo is a frightening boy, he is his parents son, but Kisuke thinks he will surpass them both rather soon.
“No, I'm afraid not,” Kisuke’s tone is still light, still somewhat playful. He misses Yoruichi at his side. He kind of misses the brash, unbending teenager that had been in his basement. Ichigo seems to have a talent for worming his way into people’s good graces, despite his manners.
Kisuke can’t imagine how often he gathers followers if his plan for invading seireitei was to make allies and convince them to commit treason. Ichigo doesn’t seem      stupid    . Perhaps just overly optimistic?
“When did you teach your son to fight with a sword?” he asks instead, starting with the easiest question. Easier than asking ‘Isshin why the fuck does a child move like he’s lived and breathed fighting but thinks the bonds of friendship will save him?’. Or, ‘How did Ichigo do in one hour what normally takes more than ten years?’.
“I never have. Why?” Isshin frowns. “He went to karate for years, and we spar at home, but he’s never held a weapon before.”
“Is that so?” Kisuke cocks his head, his grey eyes narrowing minutely. Never touched a sword? No, that’s impossible. Ichigo moves with grace and holds a weapon with ease that only comes from long years of practice.
“Why? Kisuke, what’s going on with my son?” Isshin’s voice raises. He slaps his hands on the table, only to retract them with Kisuke gives him a Look.
Kisuke can only shake his head. “I couldn’t tell you. Your best guess is to ask him, but I know you won't do that.”
Guilt and discomfort flickers across Isshin's face. He looks down, his fists clenching in his lap.
 “The time isn't right yet.”
“The time's never going to be right,” It’s something Kisuke has wanted to say for      years    now.  “You'll keep putting it off until eventually, it's too late. I know you.”
Isshin's jaw sets and he narrows those dark eyes at Kisuke. Anyone else might have at least squirmed. Kisuke doesn’t so much as blink. “That's why I asked you to look out for him.”
“Have you seen your son lately, Isshin?” He hardly needs anyone to look out for him anymore. Even Kisuke has nothing to teach. All he van do right now, without jeopardizing Ichigo’s trust in him, is keep pushing Ichigo to grow stronger and stronger.
It occurs to him, briefly, that Ichigo might learn who they are in Seireitei, but that is a bridge Kisuke will cross when they reach it.
“Don’t talk down to me!” Isshin’s temper finally frays. The fact that it took so little is telling. Isshin is worried about Ichigo. A father who told his son none of what his life may hold is worried now for what will happen to him that life.
Kisuke wants to laugh in his face.
Since he doesn’t want to be punched, even by Isshin in a gigai, he snaps his fan out over his smiling mouth.
“Then step up, Isshin. You’re children are growing. If you’re not careful, your children will leave you behind.”
He thinks, privately, that Ichigo already has.
Isshin is silent for a long, terrible minute. Isshin is never silent. He is loud and brash and makes an excellent ‘idiot distraction’. Too good, sometimes, if he really hasn’t noticed any of this.
Ichigo walks with purpose. With weariness. Kisuke is too familiar with the dark edges of existence not to see the way Ichigo faces windows and door, the way he watches shadows, the way his hand twitches to the right like there’s something or someone there when the air is empty. Kisuke can see the darkness in the back of brown eyes.
Something happened, and the only time it could have occurred was over the summer.
 What happened, in this Chaldea?
“...he asked me about Masaki,” Isshin says at last. “He asked me if she was a quincy.”
“Did you tell him?” As if Kisuke doesn’t already know the answer.
 “No.”
 His voice is quiet.
“He asked me in front of her grave, and I couldn’t tell him the truth. It’s already too late, Kisuke.”
 “Isshin… You really area fool.”
Ichigo is gone now. Maybe, for Isshin, forever.
 * * * *
That night, Ichigo finds himself sitting outside in the grass, rolling stones through his fingers while lightning bugs flicker around him.
It’s picturesque out here. Almost enough to be the paradise so many people hope for.
It’s nothing like the long, dark corridors of Kur. It’s nothing like the dead soil and the flickering cages tended to so carefully by Ereshkigal. Ichigo aches with thoughts of what might have happened to her. Where is she, that she allowed her land to fall into such a state of poverty? When had grass started to grow? When had a King taken over the afterlife?
He has a million questions and not a single answer.
Ichigo rolls a rock around in his palm. In his other hand he brings up a small knife and cuts into the stone a familiar rune. One line with a single smaller one branching off downwards.
 ‘Torch’.
He knows mana won’t work here. There is no life for this land of life energy. That was how they’d defeated Tiamat, after all.
So he must come up with something else.
Ichigo knows, for Scathach has told him, that most mages have absolutely reiryoku to their name. Once they die they can no longer perform their precious magic, for there is no mana for them to use.
Ichigo is blessed (or something) with an over abundance of both and a talent only for mana transference.
It seems to him that the concept can’t be that different.
So he focuses on the stone in his hand and calls on the energy he can feel humming around him. In the air, the grass, the earth, it makes up everything the same way mana does. He draws it into himself and tries to press into the rock in his hand.  The energy sinks in, slowly at first. It’s like trying to force syrup into a water balloon made of concrete.
  It’s not really working.
Some instinct hisses in the back of his mind and Ichigo sits straight up, drawing Zangetsu from where he’s sat in the grass beside him. He’s not a second too late, barely blocking a blow that comes from the shadows.
Ichigo is on his feet in a second.
He hasn’t survived this long by being stupid, and he’s always trusted his instincts. They’ve never let him die yet.
They’re far enough away that if he shouts no one will reach him in time to help. Even if he was closer, when he sees the man step out of the trees he knows without a doubt; none of his friends can take this man.
He’s tall. Silver hair and a curved smile makes him think of a snake. He almost feels like Stheno, enough that it sets Ichigo’s teeth on edge. He remembers clearly her habit of toying with those she likes, embarrassing and driving them to ruin while watching them struggle.
“You know it’s rude to attack someone when their back is turned?” Ichigo says, tilting his blade and letting the bandages flow off and into the air.
 The mans smile stretches.
“You have good reflexes for a kid,” he teases, his voice light. Ichigo narrows his eyes. This man is strong. Stronger than Ichigo for certain, but if he’s careful…
“I’m not a kid. Who are you?”
“Me? Oh, no one really. I just wanted to see who it was that came to visit today. You’re causing quite the stir, you know.”
“Oh yeah?” Ichigo narrows his eyes. “Are you here for a fight?”
The man considers him. He lifts a dagger up, twirling it elegantly. He drops into a hard stands, one leg behind the other, partially bent, his hand with the knife at the back.
Ichigo gets Zangetsu up without a second to spare, blocking the blade an inch from cutting into his shoulder. It extends and retracts in the time it takes to blink.
 Joy.
Ichigo isn’t the fastest person, and his sword is big and powerful not small and swift. They’re a bad match up.
 Oh well.
Ichigo lifts Zangetsu and brings him back down, slicing the air and cleaving the earth. The man, a shinigami with a white coat the flutters around him, dodges to the side with a single step. Ichigo catches a glimpse of his eyes. Quicksilver, it’s gone a second later and replaced by that same smile.
“If you’re looking for a fight, I won’t back down,” Ichigo warns. Zangetsu hums in his grasp, comforting and familiar. His blood pounds, excitement rushes under his skin.
“You're an interesting guy,” the stranger muses, “Aren’t you afraid of me?”
It’s all Ichigo can do not to laugh.
Ichigo has fought gods and monsters. This is just a man.
 “No way in hell.”
“What a strange person you are.” He puts his short sword back in it’s sheath and it disappears inside his sleeves. Ichigo doesn’t trust it for a minute. “I have what I need. Bye bye now.”
He waves and disappears in a blur of speed that makes Ichigo’s stomach twist. If that man wanted him dead, he would probably      be    dead.
Ichigo is left alone in the dark.
With nothing else to do, he picks up his rock and tries again.
He only gets a few more minutes of trying to fill the cement balloon before the door to the main house opens and Orihime comes walking out. She shivers at the chill in the air and looks around until her eyes find his. They’re full of concern and compassion.
It’s for the best. Ichigo needs to talk to her anyways.
 He waves her over.
Orihime is someone that Ichigo has known for years, but barely knows at all in the end. He knows how her brother died.
(He was there when it happened, when they came broken bodied and hearted into the kurosaki clinic. Her hair was short and her eyes were wet and dull with grief. For Ichigo grief was already an old companion. He’d sat at her side while his dad tried to explain what was happening to a child that already knew. He wonders if she remembers. He almost hopes she does.)
Yet, they’ve never hung out outside of school. She is Tatsuki’s friend, and Tatsuki is Ichigo’s, and so she is in the same orbit as he is but they’ve never really gone off with each other, and rarely had true conversations.
(He keeps waiting for her to bring up Acidwire/Sora.)
 (she doesn’t)
She kneels across from him, a bright smile in the dark of night and Ichigo is suddenly very, very glad that she’d not come a few minutes earlier. He’s not sure how well he could have protected her.
 The thought tastes like bile.
“Kurosaki,” she smiles sweetly at him. “You’ve been out here so long. Aren’t you getting cold?”
Ichigo tilts his head before he shakes it.
 “No, I’m fine.”
 “O-oh.”
Orihime is unsure of herself. It seems like she always is, except when she protected them in the Dangai, and when she swore to follow him into battle.
How does he keep finding these people? These inexplicably loyal beings, with power beyond humans, who follow him into convoluted plots and dangerous schemes? How does he keep tricking people into thinking it’s a good idea?
 Is everyone just stupid?
 “Orihime, listen.”
She perks up, all of his attention on him. Ichigo doesn’t like saying this, but it’s something he has to. There’s no other option.
“When we get to the Seireitei, you’re going to be out top supporter. You’re our only healer, and while Uryu and I know basic first aid, it’s different from actually fixing someone. On top of that, you’re our shield. I know you’ve got an attack, but listen. Can you use it?”
Orihime’s brows furrow. “I can use it. I know how, I’ve been practicing with Tsubaki and Yoruichi for a long time now.”
“I don’t mean physically,” he corrects. He wants to be gentle, but it’s just not going to work. “I mean, can you actually hurt someone?”
 She freezes.
 “I-”
“If it comes down to you or them. If it comes down to them or me. Orihime, could you hurt someone? Could you attack with the intent of making sure they don’t get back up?”
She clasps her hands in her lap. “I-I can-”
“If you can’t,” he cuts in swiftly. “Say it now. When we fight we need to know you have our backs. Do you understand, Orihime? “
“Y-yes,” she bows her head. Her hair pins glow faintly in the darkness, distracting from the shadow cast over her eyes.
 * * * * *
Ichigo eyes the dark waters of the Mississippi warily.
“This is insane,” he says aloud, “I’ve never seen anything this wide before.”
He spins and points at Cu. “Don’t say a thing.”
The caster lifts his hand, looking innocent. “I can’t say wha now?”
 “Fuck you.”
 “Stop being vulgar.”
Kyo prods Ichigo from the side, garnering his attention. Mash sits at the front of their boat, a flat barge that pushes along valiantly. They’re halfway to the whitehouse now. Halfway to the end of the war, and Ichigo can feel the stress thrum across his skin. He doesn’t know what to do now.  The traveling. The waiting. The intermediate fighting is tiring everyone out, Ichigo included.
It’s hard to stay on guard 24/7, with anxiety pushing them forwards as much as anything else.
As much as supporting other people tires him out, staying on his toes constantly is a whole other type of exhausting.
He trusts his servants to keep him from harm, but they still rely on him to support them, to give them orders, to supply them with information that they need. He stays in the back, he watches and waits, and tells them where best to place their blows. He looks for opening they can’t see from so close up.
Kyo’s hand lands on his knee. Ichigo stops bouncing it. He hadn’t even realized hed started.
“Kyo…?” It still feels wrong to voice his true name out loud, even though Kyo has told him a more intimate secret than just his name.
Kyo turns his dark eyes on Ichigo. There’s a furrow in his brows. He’s just as tired as the rest of them. With the rest of the world collapsing, more and more hollow’s are being pushed into the only place left in the living world. Early on it was just weaklings, but now there are smaller, more humanoid monsters that stalk their steps, waiting to devour the dead they leave in their wake.
A war is an all you can eat buffet for creatures made of fear, rage, and hunger.
“Breath, Ichigo,” Kyo nudges him back against the crate they’re rested against, near the edge of t the flat barge.
“I am breathing,” he grumbles petulantly.
Kyo barely has enough dignity not to roll his eyes. That’s fine. Ichigo has been wearing him down for months. Kyo wears manners and politeness like armor, and Ichigo has a terrible habit of shattering things like that.
“You know what I mean. You should reserve yourself for the final fight.”
 “I know. I’m trying.”
Kyo hums. The moon hangs heavy and full above their heads. Ichigo knows instinctively that neither of them will really sleep, but resting his eyes is better than nothing. With Medusa on watch, no one will sneak up on them.
 It’s only a small comfort.
A bigger comfort is the shoulder pressed against his, invisible and intangible to everyone but him. Ichigo will not admit it, but it feels sometimes like Kyo is only his. The rest of these heroes are here to save the world, and Kyo is too, but while they all have each other the two of them are the only ones privy to the world of the dead and the skull masked monsters that creep in the shadows.
Something protective curls in his chest and Ichigo relaxes, leaning half into Kyo’s side. He watches the moon ripples across the water, unattainable and intangible.

A lightly edited rant on parts of Ryōgo Narita's postscript from Can't Fear Your Own World vol. III:
When Matsubara and I met Kubo directly in order to prepare for the novels, we asked him rapid-fire questions about the mysteries remaining in BLEACH’s world: “What about that?! What happened in that part?!” “What about that character’s past?!” When we heard Kubo’s responses, I was blown away by his many charming creations. “Wh-why didn’t you include the past of the Reio and the aristocrats and the underside of the world in the original story?!” When I asked him that, he gave me a clear answer that I couldn’t disagree with: “This is a story about Ichigo and the Soul Reapers’ battle, so I didn’t want to muddy the story’s focus by taking it away from that.” Regardless of the past, Ichigo and the other Soul Reapers were fighting in order to stay true to their souls. If the story’s focus were shifted away from that, then it would no longer be a part of BLEACH’s original narrative. However, though he had purposefully not written it as part of the original story, when I heard about the many incredibly fascinating backstories he had, I automatically asked him, “In that case, may I divulge those things you’ve established as part of my novelization?” I was sure that would cause him to angrily respond, “Did you even hear what I said?” However, rather than being angry, Kubo was kind enough to give me even more intricate details about what he had created and gave me a lot of advice about a new character that would need to be created. Then, as a result of the conversation about which character, who wasn’t Ichigo and who would preferably be part of the Soul Reapers themselves, could fight against that malicious head of the Four Great Noble Clans, we chose Shuhei Hisagi as the main character.
I want to focus on the bolded sections in reverse order. For the second:
screw off! literally the entire novel, okay, the two people constantly on Tokinada's ass are Shunsui and Yoruichi. Yoruichi as a Great Noble who despises Tokinada as a piece of shit and actually fights him twice, and Shunsui as a Noble who hates the nobility. Shuuhei DOESN'T EVEN FIGHT Tokinada! he fights Hikone! he barely interacts with Tokinada! but you wanna blow smoke up our asses in the author's notes at the end about how he fights against him when we have literally just seen that is not true. bullshit. he comes in at the last minute as a deus ex machina so Kenpachi doesn't chop Hikone in half. screw you. it was literally a Yoruichi and Shunsui novel that you then turned into the Shinji and Shuuhei Bankai Extravaganza which doesn't even matter now because Shinji's Bankai is in the anime and I'll bet SP shows Shuuhei's Bankai training. you claim that it revealed the truth of all this lore, but actually it revealed pretty much jack shit. okay, let me explain that last statement. suppose we are talking about the Ukraine War, okay? and I tell you it's the last battle of the Eastern and Western Roman Empire for supremacy. you go, "huh?" and I tell you about Romulus and Remus and the Trojan War, and then I don't tell you anything else. wouldn't you still be going "huh?" that's what they did!
For the first:
hey Kubo, you jerk, you had these end chapter omake. 686 of them! MAYBE DO SOMETHING USEFUL WITH THEM AND USE THEM TO SHOW YOUR HOMEWORK instead of a crummy sketch? like AT THE START OF THE MANGA? how about THOSE FIVE DATA BOOKS YOU GOT? the ones where you just repeated the same info over and over and over? "I didn't want to muddy the waters and let anyone understand the stakes or the context or why any of this shit was actually happening because the EMOTIONAL RESONANCE was so vital" oh my god piss off with your self-serving bullshit and inability to plan or utilize your time well
I would also like to note this:
By the way, after Matsubara and I heard the story of how Kisuke Urahara and Yoruichi Shihoin met, both of us said the same thing immediately. “You have to draw that with your own hand as a manga, Kubo!” Or “Really, I’d like to read that as a manga!” Those fascinating characters as well as a story hidden within the world…
fuck you

tybw arc sucks but imagine if the final arc was a revolution arc against soul society kinda like a civil war about how fucked soul society is. yes that might be me saying that bc i want a revolution in soul society but it would have worked also im talking out of my ass cause my braincells have died with my memory retaining and now im incoherent
tybw tried to also shake it up and make the arc a gray vs gray faction fight but it. Didnt end up being that way. soul society is fucked but compared to the quincies they are the more moral ones which is. alright but there was no extreme moral decisions from soul society we know theyre bad bc yhwach said they were also shunsui decided to unleash aizen but the more Awful decisions come from the end of the manga with the revalations of the zero division and the soul king but you can still argue that soul society is good tm. since we are made to believe that.
but a revolution brings all of soul society’s flaws up because theres a Reason for a revolution. soul society has committed A Lot of crimes from the quincy genocide to tousens backstory, to m*yuri existing, the rukongai, to the sheer power central 46 has over the shinigami. like honestly it would be better if someone who was very much wronged by soul society started it. powermove would have it be jushiro but a lot of characters have reasons to be against soul society. any character from the rukongai, the vizards, karukara gang, urahara and co. you dont even need to create a whole new character you could use a pre existing one who has reasons and just run with it. not only that but it minimizes the issue of having way too many characters by focusing on the ones already available and actually leads to more characterization and growth since we’re not running around trying to develop 26 sternritter and one giant fuckass
The civil war aspect is more for spice cause inner conflict is Great. having characters conflicted on obeying the state vs what is morally correct could make for interesting discussions as well as fights. we could see fights in soul society that we have never seen before. hell we could have a full out jushiro and shunsui vs yamamoto fight. it allows for fun matchups since we are mostly aware of what the shinigami are capable of and we can still have power reveals
you can also add cfyow into the main plot cause cfyow is a soul society centric arc since it involves the noble clans (specifically tokinada) as antagonists. you can flesh out the noble clans because it directly involves them. also it pains me to say it but it could also develop byakuya since he can have his whole first arc conflict but u can crank it up to 11 with him. it could flesh out yoruichi cause shes a noble and really dig into her past. we can also go full into shiba clan stuff and bring kukaku back bc i miss her. soul society politics are fucking wack this is the opportunity for more soul society lore
so in short fuck soul society lives thanks for coming to my ted talk

[[ re: this ask ]]
@ichxgo asked:
That sounded appallingly like Kisuke might’ve once tried cooking up a ground gigai or something equally suspicious. He was glad that fish wouldn’t be able to hide much in the way of extra additives.
Ichigo perked at that name. It wasn’t one he recognized. Though, that didn’t mean they hadn’t met.
He lifted a hand to Tessai in a vague greeting as he’s announced. There was a smile forming on his lips, but it vanished instantly at his assignment.
He blinked.
“...Oh.” Kitchen stuff. He wondered if it was a bad time to mention his kitchen skills were criminally lacking. Yuzu wouldn’t even let Ichigo in the kitchen for any chore but dish washing. “Uh. I thought... maybe I would fight something or move some boxes...” Wasn’t there an attic he could clean somewhere? Something that needed repaired?
He leaned over Urahara’s shoulder, so he could peer into the kitchen doubtfully. But one job was as good as the next, he supposed. At least, he’d be helping.
“How do I do it?”
“Well... I suppose I could have you fight the boxes; the battle against clutter and disorder in the storage areas is constant, I’m afraid... but I think we have more immediate use for you here.” He gestured so as to prompt Ichigo ahead of himself, going so far as to add a slight jab to the small of his back with the fan. It seemed he wanted some prodding.
Inwardly, he sighed; this sort of restlessness was bound to crop up. He’d seen it in Yoruichi. What to do in the lull that inevitably follows war, when one is a soldier? How does one settle down to a life of peace, when one is a fighter?  ...Go looking for trouble was the too-common answer. To his credit, Ichigo was looking to be useful.
Kisuke followed him in as Tessai was answering the question. “As you can see, I have already prepared the nerikiri dough. There are food colors and a clean board available to work on.” He nodded across the kitchen from the stove, where he was now standing, to a counter with assembled materials. “Perhaps it is best to start with simpler, unfilled designs...”
“...and leave the more complicated ones to the experts,” chimed in a cheeky Ururu, who had just materialized into the kitchen as though from thin air. Kisuke smiled his delight; her wagashi sense was sharp as ever. She sauntered sullenly to take a position at the counter.
“Perhaps you could manage a snowman?” prompted Kisuke helpfully. “Two balls of white dough, different sizes, with sesame-seed eyes... that shouldn’t be too difficult—”
Tessai raised a dubious brow. “Not if you omit nose, hat, scarf, and general craftsmanship.” Kisuke pointedly ignored the remark.
Tumblr media
“But in any case! Rolling dough balls is fundamental to making all wagashi. So! Man up, Ichigo, and get started, since preparing for this holiday is going to take a lot of balls!”

Massive Headcanon Post
Tumblr media
ALRIGHT I HAVE IDEAS!!! I think.... Headcanons below the damn cut because they’ll be separated into different series! God I hope this becomes a thing I do...
Please enjoy!!
Fate
Raikou’s favourite time of day is dawn. She likes to see the sun coming up and the hope of a new day washes over her, making her look forward to another day of her being not insane as she believes she is.
Shikibu secretly collects figures of the other Casters and sometimes makes them move with her magic, re-enacting something she sees in her head. She then writes out in her little diary, as if it was the most interesting thing ever when really...she made them kiss with her own figure she had gotten made.
Arturia also does baking on the side whenever she’s alone and she’s made sure that the cafeteria is empty. She’s been caught several times but they let her do her thing as she looked determined to get the recipes down. This is usually to thank everyone who has helped her, especially her master.
Tiamat likes to decorate mindlessly when she’s stressed. She’ll do it usually with Christmas decorations she has in her room, because she likes how fun they look. Sometimes it might be with Halloween ones. The Primordial Mother just likes decorating so much.
Europa sometimes might summon Talos and pet him to calm herself down. Having her bull close to her soothes her, especially when she sees things aren’t going as well. If she doesn’t have her bull, she’ll curl up and try to breathe but it doesn’t work sometimes.
Irisviel isn’t too fond of people badmouthing her children. Especially those she considers her own. She’ll kick the crap out of you so hard that you won’t even get up for the next week.
Black Clover
Asta hates it when people ask about his parents or drill into him that he should have died way too long ago. He’s never had any proper blood parents so he’ll say the Father at the church he was raised at is his dad. But when people say that doesn’t count, he won’t like it. He’ll also say that the belief in his comrades helped him live.
Noelle isn’t actually too close to the Mama Squad. She feels awkward around them. Or any sort of mother figure as she has no idea what to say. She’s also afraid of breaking down in front of them as it’s not becoming of a royal as she has drilled into her head.
Vanessa only drinks to make sure the lonely thoughts don’t invade her mind. She hates feeling lonely and drinking helps alleviate it. But when she doesn’t, her mind starts playing on the fact that she’ll be alone forever and she just heads to bed, crying.
Bleach
Ichigo has nightmares about Yhwach from time to time. He always thinks about how he could have ended it a lot more quicker so that everyone could have lived. He always imagines several outcomes. But whenever he opens his eyes, he remembers those who have died in the War and it hurts him so much.
Orihime wishes she was as strong as Yoruichi. She has one of the strongest abilities yet she hates how indecisive she can be. She has kept to herself that her kind heart has hindered her so much, even with the amount of people telling her it’s her best trait and one that should be kept as there was enough hate in the world.
Yoruichi often feels like a failure. She has strongly felt this ever since Aizen and it continues to eat away at her even after the Thousand Year Blood War.
Highschool DxD
Issei often feels like the girls that love him aren’t real. That he’s not really deserving of their love. He has these thoughts that plague his mind every other day that tell him that Rias is lying or that Raynare is actually still alive and is playing tricks on him.
Rias does her best to be there for everyone. But hates how her own duties stops her from doing that which instead makes her rely on Issei to see how everyone is. It’s not just as the alpha female in the harem, it’s as a friend to everyone.
Sona secretly enjoys dressing up with her sister, Serafall, as it reminds her that one day she may not be able to spend much time with her. So she never tells her to go away whenever Serafall is with her, rather she’ll just bear it and blush in embarrassment.
Date A Live
Kotori still enjoys the kids meals at the nearest restaurants as she loves how cute they are always made. She’ll always add it in with another order so she gets to indulge in how cute it is before devouring it.
Kurumi isn’t a big fan crowds. Whilst it does help her with her concealment, she feels her heart race whilst being within them. She has to take a moment in the shadows to get her heart to a more normal rate before going back in there again.
Love Live!
Umi is always the strict one. However, she almost always feels bad when she has to berate someone because in her own home, she has been treated a lot more harshly as the next head of the Sonoda household. But she keeps this fact closely guarded.
Kotori is always thinking about something. Usually about how to get Honoka to be hers only but she never acts upon it. She’d hate that she’d feel horrible if she did make Honoka only hers and “took out” the other competition that is her idol group. So instead, she gets out of this habit through fashion designing.
Mari isn’t actually a big fan of showing her wealth off to other people, only her friends. Sometimes she accidentally does it and then they try and cosy up to her. She hates that. She can see right through them and immediately denies them.
Chika doesn’t actually have many passions except idols. If it weren’t for idols, she would most likely stare blankly into the ceiling of her home as she would take over the Ryokan Inn that her mother owns. She’d just wonder what she was doing, whether or not if existing was right or not.
Karin has been offered various modelling gigs, which is of no surprise. However, there have been times when she has considered going 18+ modelling but refused in the end. She was curious yes but will never do it.  Of course, she’s just about getting by.
Emma has always been Karin’s best friend. They always look out for each other. However, Emma can see whether or not something is bothering Karin but doesn’t ever bring it up. Instead, she just wants to see her happy.
Bang Dream!
Sayo is a girl of many secrets. She only ever tells them to her twin sister, Hina as of late. Before, she’d never tell anyone about herself and if she did, it was only the bare minimum. She’s still closed off as she refuses to get hurt by anyone.
Tomoe is always overworking herself. She has lots of volunteering and things she does, which always leaves her knackered (tired as fuck) at the end of the day and all she wants to do is sleep. Even on days when she looks like she’s okay, she isn’t. She wants to rest.
Aya is clumsy and will get lost, just not as often as Kanon, her friend. However, she feels inadequate as an idol. She has trained for this but it always bothers her, as it goes into late night practices and early dawn nap times. She has considered giving up so many times, because of all the hate she has seen, even with her idol group, she’s usually the one with the most hate as she is at the centre most of the time.
Arisa is just gay as fuck. But she isn’t sure if it’s right to feel that way or not about certain people (KASUMI TOYAMA)
My Hero Academia
Kyouka has an innate talent of analysing quirks as well, she has never realised it. She has an analytical brain that can probably compete with Midoriya’s if she applied what she knew about music into hero work.
Momo hasn’t been the biggest fan of being raised rich. She always wondered what it’d be like to live a normal life, without all the privilege and weight of a legacy she has  on top of her.
Danganronpa
Tenko has always been confused about what to feel about the ‘degenerate males’ she has met. Especially the likes of Shuichi and Makoto. She has wondered if her view of them being horrible is skewed as she seems Shuichi as one of her closest friends. But she won’t ever admit that, ever.
Kaede really wants to know if she can stop with the piano puns. She likes to make them too much.
Makoto hasn’t exactly had the easiest time mentally. The death of his friends always haunts him even in his sleep. The screams, lights, flames, everything. He remembers all the details vividly and when he tries to reach out for them, their dead bodies are there on the floor.
Komaru has a hard time of knowing if she fits in or not as she had been taken from school and is now older than what she believes she is. She sits there wondering if it’s right to be this way now or not.
Other Muses
Jotaro is very cautious of everyone he meets. He doesn’t want a repeat of what happened in Egypt if he gets too close to anyone he likes. Even if DIO is gone, he’s never gotten rid of the feeling that someone will die in his presence or in his name.
Levi has a soft spot for his brats. He basically sees them as his children as this point and he may have been called dad once or twice by a few them. He enjoyed that but only gave them a glare.
Weiss is a soft gay for Ruby. But apart from that, she’s fine with both guys and girls.
Mami always has the feeling of her wish being selfish at the back of her mind. It’s there nagging away at her as if it would come back to bite her in the ass so she’s always out there doing her best for her juniors and always on the look our for Kyoko Sakura.
Natsu hates how his former guild had treated him. He isn’t a dumbass who can’t do anything right, rather he’s someone who was the most attuned to his emotions as his flames prove. If he meets anyone from there, he won’t hesitate to take them out with one punch.
Lelouch actually had a crush on Cornelia for a brief moment before knowing of his relation to her. He decided to drop it and add her to the list of “Siblings I absolutely adore” but from time to time he does wonder if they weren’t related, would they take over the world together?
Haru has pictures of her friends in a small box. She also has one thing they owned within it too. She’s unaware of how strange this is.

It's exciting to see your interest in making modifications to TYBW. Do you think is is plausible to provide a more involved background to the Soul King and also discuss the relationship between him and Aizen Souske? I also think it would be great to alot time towards the final battle. There is a plethora of plot holes Kubo left behind and I commend you for taking your time to add value and consistency. I wish you the best on your endeavors and let whatever happens, happens.
My point of view is that TYBW as a whole was complete trash and requires a total top-to-bottom rewrite. Even moments that a lot of people like (e.g., Rukia’s bankai reveal) were in my opinion pretty fucking terribly written. (As Nodt no-sells her shikai because “lol fights in Bleach” and she’s 100% lost until Byakuya intervenes and then decides to let her have a moment in the spotlight at which point she 100% wins.) And the rest is just a dumpster fire. (For example, we still have no idea who fought Rukia and put out her eye. You think that’d have been kinda important.)
The entire idea of “the Thousand-Year Blood War” as it is makes no sense because despite everyone knowing that Yhwach is still around and doing stuff (Kisuke, Yoruichi, Isshin, and Ryuuken should all know because Masaki and Kanae died; Yamamoto and Soul Society should know because they spy on Hueco Mundo and shit) everyone is not only utterly unprepared, but seemingly unconcerned with preparing. All these “smart” or “knowledgeable” characters just ignore the train roaring toward them, its whistle blaring.
And then, had they, they should’ve done the exact same thing that they should’ve done against Aizen in Las Noches: sent Yamamoto or Shunsui to just indiscriminately kill everything in the area, and then mopped up (maybe with Ryuuken or Isshin as the pointmen).
Bleach after the Soul Society arc is contrived as fuck to allow Ichigo and co. to do things when really none of them should be the ones being relied upon to do said things. With Aizen, there was at least an initially plausible excuse (”Ichigo hasn’t seen Aizen’s shikai,” which sounds fine… until you realize Ryuuken hasn’t either, and probably neither had Yoruichi, Kisuke, or Tessai…) but in the case of Yhwach everyone may as well be shrugging and going, “But he’s the chosen one.”
You’re left with the impression that the whole thing is a puppet show to replace the current Soul King with Ichigo and everyone was in on it, and that then went wildly out of control, but that’s just inferred. It’s just… bad. That additionally all of the backstory that could have explained it was parceled off into CFYOW was a literary sin.
So, for Demons of the Sun and Moon, I’m still (five years on) not certain what to do with TYBW, because it’s really honestly just that bad. But whatever it is won’t resemble the manga at all.
When I said what I said in that other post, I was more referring to rewriting Bleach as a whole, because honestly, it should never have come to the point of having to handle TYBW the way it was actually handled. Kubo wrote his own dumb ass into quite the corner.
Thank you for the well-wishes though.

QUESTIONS
- Would your muse consider themselves more: GOOD / BAD / NEUTRAL ? - Would your muse consider their group more: GOOD / BAD / NEUTRAL ? - How does your muse think others see them: GOOD / EVIL / NEUTRAL ? - How does your muse think others see their race: GOOD / EVIL / NEUTRAL ? - How does your muse think others see their group: GOOD / EVIL / NEUTRAL ?
- Is your muse considered a threat: YES / NO ?  From whom?:  Soul Society. Hollow. Humans (?) - Is your muse powerful: YES / NO ?  Could they be considered OP:  YES / NO ? - Did your muse any crimes: YES / NO ? [ but their existence is outlawed, ] - Does your muse think they are doing mostly the right thing: YES / NO ? - Would society think the same: YES / NO / MIXED OPINIONS ?
- Does your muse think they are treated unfairly: YES / NO ? - Does your muse feel understood from others: YES / NO ? - Is it important for them what others think of them as a person: YES / NO ? - Would they welcome death:  YES / NO ? - Will they ever find peace:  YES / NO ?
01.0.  Do they fully stand behind the group they are part of? YES / NO. Why is that? Explain: Well, it’s mainly out of necessity. They are all the same and this group, the visored, are more her family than just a random bunch of misfits. They were thrown together in exile out of necessity and have grown close due to the injustices they have suffered.
02.0.  Do they like as things are in Soul Society? YES / NO. 02.1.  Is there anything they would change? Explain here: Hiyori wouldn’t mind changing how life in Rukongai is. It’s too big and and too harsh for any collection of souls that end up there. There is no way out - unless you have the good fortune to be born into the noble families or you’re strong enough to become a shinigami.
03.0. Would they ever actively try to bring change (in general)? YES / NO. 03.1. Is your muse more: passive / active ?  Introverted / Extroverted ? 03.2. Does your muse care more about: others / themselves ? 03.3. Do they trouble their mind over a lot of problems, others? YES / NO. 03.4. Do they mostly involve: the world / everyone / themselves / comrades / friends / family / elderly / kids / teenagers / home / workplace / strangers / souls / humans / quincy / shinigami / nobles / fullbringer / visored / hollows / espada / arrancar / (former) boss(es) / pets / animals / zanpakuto spirit / enemies / partner / lovers / soul king / god / other…(add more) 03.5. Name (up to) three which are the most on their mind (optional, adding names): - aizen tbh - family/friends/visored. she loves them. - growing stronger BI
04.0. Do they think frequently about politics? YES / NO / SOMETIMES. Why is that? Explain: She only thinks of it in the bitterest of circumstances. She was used by a system that tossed her out like a useless piece of tissue and suddenly, when they’re in trouble, she’s still saving their asses. She doesn’t like this ambiguity. She doesn’t like not trusting who she is fighting for and therefore... she would much rather cut all her ties with the society that she used to be a part of. Anyone that harms her friends is never going to be her ally.
05.0. How do they feel in their current location, more: POSITIVE / NEGATIVE / NEUTRAL ? 05.1. Why is that?:  She’s free... but that’s all she is. Neither here and neither there- very much like her existence. It’s neither hollow, nor shinigami and she has to be brave enough to carve out her own identity in this world. She has to figure out what it means to just be Hiyori -not a soldier for the gotei or someone disgraced from her rank. But just... Hiyori.
06.0. Does your muse have any goal: YES / NO ?  BIG / SMALL ? 06.1. Does it involve anything world-changing: YES / NO ? 06.2. If goal or not, any future plans? Share here:  Hiyori has no real goals. She knows what she doesn’t want- and that is to rejoin the gotei. She would never rejoin unless Kisuke were her captain again. Hiyori  believes she’s living on bonus years anyway so her goal and focus is just on self-improvement. To become strong and protect her friends. Once, she had the goal of becoming someone’s bride and finding love, but it seems that this goal was not her true ending. She most likely wanted family- and she already had it. Except that her family has dispersed somewhat.
She’s still searching for her real purpose in life. She thinks that is okay too- as long as she can protect her friends.
07.0. Does your muse know about the original sin of soul society*: YES / NO ? * curious? Read about it here. 07.1. If they knew, would it change their views on Soul Society: YES / NO ? 07.2. More: POSITIVE / NEGATIVE / NEUTRAL ?
08.0. Who is the worst person in their eyes?:  herelf. Aizen. 08.1. What should happen to them?  Execution (quick / slow death) / Imprisonment / Stripped of their powers / Torture / Repay for their sins / Pay a Fine / Social Work / lose their loved ones / Exile / other… (add more). 08.2. Explanation:  Aizen needs to pay for uprooting her and her friends from their lives. Not only that, but he created this vicious monster that made her hurt her friends. Her shame has disfigured her. Aizen should at least serve the same sentence as she was served-- exiled and disgraced away from everyone.
09.0. Thoughts on the Quincy Massacre if they knew: POSITIVE / NEGATIVE / NEUTRAL ? 09.1. Would they be alright with such thing happening again: YES / NO ? 09.2. Would they try to prevent it: YES / NO / DEPENDS ? 09.3. Explanation:  If Hiyori could have prevented it, she would have. She isn’t exactly an anarchist, but there are some things and parts of soul society she was ignorant to before her exile despite being a lieutenant. She equated shinigami with goodness until she became a hollow herself.
10.0. Would they ever switch sides: YES / NO ?  // always on the side of the visored
10.1. If yes, What could bring them to do so?:    shitty circumstances 10.2. Would they create a new one: YES / NO ?  or join a current one? If so, which:  - visored.
11.0. Does your muse follow a certain moral code*?:  YES / NO / GRAY AREA ? * (ethics) A written, formal, and consistent set of rules prescribing righteous behavior, accepted by a person or by a group of people. 11.1. What does it involve?:  Help those that need it. Protect your friends/allies. If you’re strong, protect the weak. 11.2. What does it NOT involve?:  to never kill someone that didn’t deserve it or didn’t know why. Hiyori spent a good portion of her time in the Winter War explaining, even to Aizen- why she wanted to kill him. It goes to show that she doesn’t end lives as lightly as she pretends to.
YOUR MUSE’S VIEWS / OPINIONS ON THESE GROUPS ?
Central 46:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because: they ordered their death, as well as sentenced Kisuke wrongfully.
Four Great Noble Clans:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because: anything shinigami is pretty useless. Except Yoruichi. She’s the best thing that came from there.
Royal Guards / Gotei 13:   positive / negative / neutral .   ━   because: none of them bothered to help her friends or Kisuke during their darkest time. They can all die in a ditch. Of course, when she says this, she still runs to their aid during a fight... only because her friends want to protect them.
Fullbringer:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  has very little to do with these spiritually aware humans. If they’re not bothering her, she’s not bothering them.
Visored:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because: uhm only the best beings in existence. All her favourite people belong to this race. 10/10
Espada:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  they serve aizen. A lot of them are also under the assumption that they are somewhat superior to visored? GET REAL.
Quincy:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because: she didn’t care what they did to be honest. She just didn’t like them hurting her friends. If they literally annihiliated everyone in Soul Society except her friends, she wouldn’t have batted an eyelash. They’re Soul Society’s mistake to fix and to be honest, if there were more visored, she would’ve liked an alliance with them to teach central 46 a lesson at least. But... you live and you learn. And her friends were barely stable to launch a revolt.
YOUR MUSE’S VIEWS / OPINIONS ON THESE (IMPORTANT) PEOPLE ?
Aizen:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  he used her. Hurt her innocent friends and also hurt people that could not/would not fight back. This is people like Ichigo’s friends and humans that cannot pick up a zanpakuto to fight for themselves. Aizen’s plans are not justified.
Yhwach:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  she’s only going along with what she’s been told-- he wanted to destroy the worlds and this is a bit unfair since she lives in the world. > >
Mayuri:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  Although he’s a pain... he is part of her division. He was irritating and gross and weird... but he was still from her division and she did become attached to him in her own way. He makes her skin crawl but also, she kind of understands why he is so alienated. He’s different. And different people are the ones that are stepped on first. They feel threatened and have to protect themselves. The things he has done, whilst she doesn’t know all of them and most likely would have words about them -- he’s most likely done it as he’s seen right. At least, for Mayuri he has passion in what he does. He’s not pretentious about being a good shinigami. He calls himself a scientist.
Kurosaki:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  he’s a dumbass teenage boy with a nice family and a nice home and still carries on this huge responsibility to fight for his friends. And.. he’s their family now. So Ichigo’s family... is her family. She’ll protect it.
Soul King:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  doesn’t really think he does much to be honest. A king has to be prepared to reunite people and make the world a little better. But their king seems to hide in an exclusive pocket dimension where not even her zanpakuto can talk to Kirio’s zanpakuto. It’s heart-breaking. :(
CONGRATS, you managed till to the end, now tag your fellow bleach partners!
