It's small but ominous, the envelope handed to Jason by a confused street kid. Found taped to the door of their warehouse, addressed to the Red Hood, and containing two things. A printed note, saying only 'We have him', and a lock of black hair wrapped in a bloodied scrap of fabric the shade of which can only be described as 'Nightwing Blue'.

Jason’s blood turns to ice.

He’s frozen, can’t seem to even breathe, to tear his gaze away from the fabric in his hand, as a few precious seconds tick by. And then he’s bursting into movement. Ripping his phone out of his pocket and unlocking it, opening up his contact list. The Bluetooth is connected to his helmet already, which is at least one less thing for him to worry about. The kid swears up and down the entire time that he didn’t see who stuck the envelope to the door, swears no one did. Jason thanks him and sends him on his way.

He calls Dick as he races for his bike, not wanting to waste any more time if this is real. “Come on, come on, pick up, Dickie.” He hangs up when it rings through to voicemail. Dials again. And again. And again. Five times he calls, before he decides Dick’s not going to pick up.

Cursing up a storm, he jumps onto his bike. His first stop will be the warehouse, for several reasons: to make sure all the kids are alright; to check that their stories match Javi’s, that they didn’t see anyone; and to look for any hints of whoever left that envelope’s presence. Just before he takes off, he jabs one other contact in his list and shoves his phone into one jacket pocket, the envelope in the other. He peels out of the alley he’d parked in, tires screeching against the pavement, as it rings.

“Tim,” he cuts off whatever greeting the kid planned on giving him. “Is this line secure?” He waits for an affirmative before continuing. “Where’s Dick right now? I need eyes on him, yesterday.” God, Dickie, what did you get yourself into?
