You've been reincarnated countless times, and Druig has found you in every life. The first time you saw him (in your current life, at least) you were overwhelmed with such a sense of nostalgia and familiarity, like trying to remember a vivid dream you know you had. You weren't even surprised when he approached you outside the shitty restaurant you work at when your shift was over. He couldn't even talk at first, he was too choked up. He missed you so much between now and when he last saw you, sometime in the 70s, he thinks. Or was it the 80s? He doesn't know and he doesn't care because the comparatively short yet agonizingly long time he's spent without you is over. He wants to hold you, wants to embrace you and never let go, but he knows from experience that you need to remember first, take your time processing what he's about to tell you. Finally, the silence between you breaks.
"You taking the subway?"
"Uh," you chuckle, thrown off by how nice his voice sounds, "yeah." He's conveniently taking the subway too, so you walk there together. It's a comfortable silence as he finally takes in your presance for the first time again in far too long. After some small talk, some banter, after the ice is broken and you have a little rapport going, he nudges your shoulder with his playfully. The little laugh you let out fills him with warmth, and it feels like you're picking up right where you left off.
"You know, this isn't the first time we've met." His accent is hypnotic, and you could listen to him talk for centuries. It's strange, it's bizarre, but you believe him. He can see that you believe him, and after you finally reach your subway stop, he's told you everything. Not everything everything, but the first part. Enough to bring you up to speed. It's just as terrifying as the last time's he's had to tell you that you've been reincarnated and he's known you in every past life, but it makes too much sense. It feels too right for you to deny it. You part ways with his phone number scribbled on a reciept, feeling more fulfilled than you have in a long time. The hardest part for Druig is always warming back up to each other. He wants to spoil you, take you away to some gorgeous little island somewhere where you're pampered and have no responsibilities or stress, where he can hold you and love you day and night. He wants to dive into the deep end, a feeling that he's only ever gotten with you. He'll be able to soon, he reminds himself. You sleep well that night, seeing flashes of your past incarnations with him. You have no idea that as you sleep, Druig is having a conversation with your boss and persuading him to let you leave as soon as you're ready, no two week notice necessary. Your boss's eyes glow gold, mirroring Druig's, as he tells him explicitly to be extra kind to you during your remaining time working for him. Look out for you, take good care of you. You deserve it. You deserve the world, he thinks, and he's going to give you every good part of it he possibly can.

I Get a Sugar Rush Whenever I'm With You - Chapter 10.1
Good evening fellow Drukkari stans, or whatever time it is for you! We've officially made it to the final week of the competition, aka the beginning of the end! And coincidentally, Bake Off is airing a new season! If you've missed any previous installments and need to catch up, you can find them all on my Table of Contents here. Last time, Makkari got Star Baker, and Druig was eliminated. What will he do next? Find out now, in the next mini-chapter of Drukkari in the Great British Bake Off!
Tumblr media
Sersi was already seated at a table when Druig arrived. She waved him over with a gentle smile on his face, and Druig plopped himself down on the seat across from her, mumbling his greetings. After exchanging pleasantries and putting in their drink orders, Sersi turned back to him and asked, "So, what's this all about, Druig?"
"I don't know what you mean," he lied, sipping his beer.
"Seriously? I nagged you about getting drinks for a week and you only now ask to meet up?" she asked. Her eyes narrowed as she continued. "Did Makkari send you to check up on me?"
"She did not. But while we're on the subject, how are you feeling about seeing your ex and your current boyfriend at the same party?"
"I actually feel fine. Ikaris and I are on decent terms, but it's none of his business who I'm seeing now. Besides, Dane and I are taking things slow," Sersi said nonchalantly. Druig must've looked surprised at this answer because she added, "Makkari already asked me. She really didn't put you up to this?"
"Nope," was all he said in reply.
Sersi gave him a long look, silently studying his face before she asked in a gentler tone, "Druig, are you and Makkari speaking again?"
"We are," he answered carefully.
"You resolved whatever happened that week?"
"We did."
"So, what's the problem?"
Druig averted his gaze as he thought about his answer. He didn't know why he had to think about it. He'd been thinking about it since Saturday. This was the very reason he'd reached out to Sersi in the first place. He needed to tell someone. Hunter had already put up with him for weeks and was unlikely to be helpful. Phastos had proved a good listener, but he was quite busy with his family during the week, and Druig didn't want to distract him ahead of the final. Of everyone else, he felt Sersi would be the most sympathetic. So, he took a deep breath, looked her in the eye, and let the words spill out.
"I'm in love with her, but I don't think I can ever tell her."
Sersi hadn't looked the slightest bit surprised by the first part of his statement, but her eyebrows rose and drew together in confusion at the second part. "Why ever not?"
With that, the flood gates were open. Druig told her everything that had happened, things he hadn't even told Phastos about. The investigations, the clandestine baking sessions, the accidental bed-sharing. Sersi mostly listened, only asking a few questions as they came up. When he finally finished, he was quite a few drinks in. Sersi had stopped at two drinks, but she was still wearing the same perplexed expression.
"What is it now?" he asked, feeling rather spent.
"I think I'm still missing something. Why can't you tell her how you feel?"
"Because I don't think she feels the same way. Also, she's my best friend, and I can't risk losing her again. The bed incident really did a number on us both."
In an instant, something seemed to click for Sersi. She reached across the table, putting a hand on his shoulder to steady him as she said, "Druig, the bed incident did a number on Makkari because she loves you too."
Now it was Druig's turn to draw his eyebrows together in confusion. "I don't think so."
"She absolutely does. And from what I can tell, I'm pretty sure everyone else knows by now."
"No, they all know that I'm in love with Makkari. Not the other way 'round."
"How do you know?"
"Because they all tell me whenever she's not there to join the conversation! Thena kind of told me to ask her out, then Ajak told me not to, Sprite just called us gross-"
"Sprite insults everyone. I think it's her way of being friendly."
"I wasn't finished. Phastos did think we were dating already, but when I explained it to him, he said I should respect her wishes but also talk to her-"
"And what do most of these interactions have in common?"
"I'm not sober or drunk enough for this much critical thinking, Sersi."
"C'mon, I know Makkari's not the only detective. Use your deductive reasoning, Watson!"
Druig sighed dramatically, but used what brain power he had left to replay those moments back in his head. His face relaxed as an idea began to form. After what felt like a lengthy silence, he gave his answer. "As time went on, the others pre-supposed that we were a couple?"
"Which means…"
"They think Makkari has feelings for me, too."
"There you go!" Sersi said excitedly. "Myself included, by the way."
"Wait, is that why you kept hounding us about drinks?"
A sheepish look came over Sersi's face as she admitted, "I may have had a very silly plan to set a date and time that worked for both of you and then not show up myself."
Druig merely raised an eyebrow at her confession, and Sersi scrunched up her nose in embarrassment.
"I know, it's completely childish, but I don't usually play matchmaker with my friends, and Makkari seemed to like the idea, so…"
All of a sudden, realization hit Druig like a bolt of lightning. "That was the surprise Makkari was talking about. Why you didn't want Kingo to join us."
Sersi was smiling proudly now. Druig felt an involuntary grin spreading across his face as well.
"Makkari does love me."
"Glad you finally got there," Sersi replied gleefully. "But if she asks, I didn't tell you. You figured it out on your own. Got it?"
"Got it."
"So, what will you do with that information?"
"Oh, I'll do something. But not until after the competition. I don't want to distract her from that," he explained.
"Very considerate. Let me know if I can help with anything," Sersi offered.
"I will." Druig held up his drink. "To Sunday?"
"To Sunday," Sersi answered. They clinked their bottles together and downed the rest.

Day 2 - First Kiss
Posted on ao3 with the title “I’d rather be dry (but at least I’m alive)”
““It’ll be fine,” he said. “It’s not going to rain at all,” he said. “WE WON’T GET SOAKED AT ALL,” HE SAID,” Thena ranted, gesturing wildly with her hands.
“I’m sorry! I must’ve looked at the wrong day!” Kingo said, trying to defend himself.
“No shit,” Ikaris deadpanned.
“Excuse me, but my CHILD is here.” Phastos glared at Ikaris.
I just wanted to eat my sandwich in peace but then the world just went “Nope. Abso-fucking-lutely d e n i e d”, Makkari complained with a dramatic flair of her wrists.
“Hey Ikaris, how about you fly up there and fight a cloud,” Druig suggested, desperately trying to fight back his laughter.
“Can’t fly, dumba- idiot.”
“That’s it. I’m just going to call an Uber,” Kingo said as he surrendered, throwing his arms up in the air and later pulling his phone out of his pocket.
“Can I go with you?” Ajak asked, her damp hair clinging to her face.
“Sure. Anyone else?”
“I’m not walking out here anymore,” Sprite said, holding her soaked hood above her head.
“Can we join too?” Sersi asked.
“You can, but not Ikaris.”
“I might actually throw YOU into the sky instead of Druig.”
“Fine. You can go too.”
“Good idea on calling an Uber,” Ben said as he took his phone out of his pocket.
“You’re not coming with us?” Kingo asked.
“We’re a family of three and you guys are already trying to shove five people in a car,” Phastos deadpanned.
Can we go with you? Makkari asked for both herself and Druig.
“I guess we’re cramming five people into another car,” Phastos mumbled.
“Thena? Gil? Who are you going with?” Kingo asked.
“I’ll walk in the rain. I’m not a pussy,” Thena said, earning a loud laugh from Gilgamesh.
“Jack, earmuffs,” Phastos said to his son. Jack covered his ears with his hands, imitating earmuffs. “Thena, what the hell? Even Ikaris was able to restrain himself!”
“Oh, so you can swear?” Druig said, sounding slightly agitated.
“Say something like that one more time and you’ll lose the ability to say anything,” Thena said while glaring at Phastos, which earned a laugh from Druig.
“This is why she’s my favorite. Well, my favorite after my beautiful, beautiful Makkari,” Druig said, giving his girlfriend a warm smile and a light peck to the forehead.
“Okay, seriously, how long has that been going on for?” Phastos asked, wildly gesturing to the couple.
“About five days,” Kingo replied.
“Shut your mouth,” Druig said as he glared at the man.
“So mean…”
The Ubers arrived a few minutes later and the others were gone. Thena and Gilgamesh were left to walk alone in the rain.
“You wanted to take the Uber, didn’t you?”
“No.”
“Why?”
“I just want to be with you.” Hearing that made Gil’s blood rush to his cheeks. “Also, my house isn’t too far from here anyway.”
Gil looked at the street sign. “Hm, I guess I wasn’t paying any attention,” he said with a chuckle.
The two walked slowly in silence for a bit. Thena let her head rest against one of Gil’s broad shoulders.
“Thank you,” Thena said out of nowhere. “For walking me home,” she added a few seconds later.
“No need to thank me; I’m always happy to spend time with you, even if it’s short like this,” Gil said, earning a warm smile from Thena.
About a minute later, Gil looked to the side and at Thena, who was still smiling. Her face was wet and her hair was drenched.
Why does she have to be so beautiful? Gil asked himself before blushing deeply and shaking his head as if to banish the thought.
Before either of them knew it, they were walking up to Thena’s front door. She fished into her pocket and retrieved her keys. She put the key in the door and opened it.
“If you want, you can stay until the rain passes,” Thena offered.
“It’s fine, I have some work to get done so I need to head back to my hotel room anyway.”
“Stop by tomorrow?”
“Of course!”
Thena walked back out and gave Gil a goodbye hug. After a few seconds, they pulled apart. When they pulled apart, Thena didn’t go back into her house. They both stared deeply into each other’s eyes. Eventually, Thena’s eyes drifted down to Gil’s lips. She placed a hand on Gil’s cheek and stood on the tips of her toes. She tilted her head and leaned in, placing and long and soft kiss on his lips and making his eyes widen. Gil then returned her kiss, still surprised at Thena’s sudden action. She wrapped her arms around his neck. One of her hands later made it into his hair as his hands drifted to her back. The rain continued to beat down on them as their need for each other increased. They pulled apart, breathing heavily and lips still centimeters away from each other’s.
After catching their breaths, they went back in. This time, their kisses were filled with hunger. Before anything could escalate to a point beyond return, they pulled away. They stayed close to each other for a little while, breaths mingling in the air between them.
“I’ll see you tomorrow,” Thena said as she walked back into her house. She shut her door, leaving a dumbfounded Gilgamesh out in the rain on her doorstep.
Who could have known Thena felt the same way? he thought before he walked away from her front door.

I Get a Sugar Rush Whenever I'm With You - Chapter 10.2
Happy weekend fellow Drukkari stans, or whatever day it is for you! Hope you're enjoying the new season of Bake Off if you watch! We're getting down to the final installments. There may even be an epilogue as well! If you missed any previous chapters and need to catch up, you can find them all on my Table of Contents here. Sersi finally talked some sense into Druig! See what happens next at the big picnic in a brand new mini-chapter of Drukkari in the Great British Bake Off, featuring random Marvel guest stars!
Tumblr media
Sunday arrived swiftly, and Druig found himself back at the gardens outside of the tent. It was strange only being there to eat and not to bake, but Druig had a very different challenge ahead of him. Before that, however, he had friends to greet.
Punctual as ever, Ajak and Karun had already arrived as Druig walked up. Ajak surprised him with a hug before introducing him to her partner. Karun was accompanied by his boss, some American inventor called Howard Stark.
"Mr. Stark was the one who suggested I should apply for the competition," he explained.
"How could I not? Of all the assistants I've ever had, Karun makes the finest cakes by far!" Mr. Stark said proudly.
"You're too kind, sir," Karun replied, a humble smile on his face.
"Sounds like how I got Druig to apply, right mate?" Hunter interjected, giving his co-worker a heavy clap on the shoulder, much to his annoyance. He'd practically begged Druig to let him come to the picnic. Druig had reluctantly agreed, but he was beginning to regret that decision.
"Yeah, take all the credit for my success, why don't you?" Druig responded, rolling his eyes.
"I will take credit! I got you into baking in the first place!" Hunter replied indignantly.
"Well, it's good that you did. We're all quite impressed with Druig's work," Ajak added with an amused grin. "By the way, how far into the competition did you get?"
"Semi-final," he answered, trying not to look too pleased with himself.
"Wow, congratulations!" Ajak said, her grin taking over her face.
"Well done, Mr. Druig!" Karun said.
"Thanks," Druig said with a small smile.
As they talked, a few more bakers and guests trickled in. Thena had come alone, giving them all a nod and a small smile of acknowledgment as she arrived, but Sprite was followed from a distance by her mother, father, and a hoard of younger siblings, much to everyone's amusement.
"Good day, everyone," Sprite said as she approached the group.
"Aren't you going to introduce us to your family, Sprite?" Ajak asked.
"Nope, they agreed to stay at least ten feet away," she answered. "I wanted it to be thirty, but they negotiated me down."
"Well, you can stay here then while I introduce myself," Ajak replied cheerfully. She began to march over to the group, Karun following close behind. Hunter observed all of them with amusement. Sprite merely groaned and rolled her eyes.
"So, how have you two been?" Thena asked, turning to Sprite and Druig.
"Fine, busy with school," Sprite said glumly.
"Gilgamesh tells me you made it to Week 7. You should be proud."
The red-haired teen softened a bit at this. "Thanks, Thena."
"And I hear you made it to the semi-final, Druig. Congratulations."
"Thanks," he said softly, ducking his head. Next to him, Sprite's eyes resumed their usual glare.
"I'm gonna go find Ajak," she said before stomping off. Thena waited until the teen was out of earshot before turning back to him.
"So, have you been patient?" Thena asked.
"A bit too patient, perhaps," Druig mused. Thena merely raised an eyebrow at his words.
"What's stopping you now?"
"The walls of that tent."
"Well, that won't be a problem for much longer," she remarked with a sly grin. Thena then walked away, rejoining Sprite as she properly introduced her parents and siblings. Druig hung back, and Hunter was walking back over to him when they were greeted by a familiar call.
"Hey, Druig!" Sersi said as she approached him, hand-in-hand with Dane. They were followed by an older couple, presumably Sersi's parents, and a shy but handsome gentleman who was gawking at everything around him. Dane introduced the man as his colleague, Steven Grant.
"Glad I'm not the only one!" Hunter declared, inserting himself into the conversation once again. "Did you also dare your work mate to bake a cake, which escalated into him entering a televised baking competition?"
"Um, not exactly. No. We used to be flat mates, and I got him to start watching the show," Steven mumbled.
"He taste-tested a lot of my bakes when I started out," Dane explained.
"Is that really how you started baking, Druig?" Sersi asked, equal parts incredulous and amused.
Before Druig could give an answer, Hunter had already jumped in and was soon regaling Steven and Dane with his (much-exaggerated) version of the story. As they talked, Sersi pulled Druig aside.
"So, are you ready? You have a plan?" she asked quietly.
"Yeah. I'll wait until after they announce the winner, then I'll take her aside to talk to her," he explained.
"Good. Simple and straightforward. Anything I can help with?"
"If anyone asks where we've gone, keep 'em distracted?"
"I'm on it," Sersi answered confidently.
Just then, Druig noticed Ikaris walking up to the picnic area.
"Although, if you're otherwise occupied, I'd understand," he said, his eyes fixed on the approaching man.
Sersi turned to look at him, too, her eyebrows raising only slightly in response. She let out a quite breath as she turned back to Druig and stated, "I'll be fine. I promise."
"Alright. But if they start fighting and you need someone to intervene, I can always jump in," he replied nonchalantly.
"Seriously?" Sersi asked, more amused than taken aback.
"What? I can hold my own in fight."
"Thank you, but I really don't think that will be necessary."
As he got closer, Ikaris's gaze met Sersi. She gave him a slight grin and a nod of acknowledgment, and he returned it in kind. Before he could say anything, Ajak had wandered over and struck up a conversation with him. With that, Sersi returned to Dane's side. He and Steven were still avidly listening to Hunter, who was in the middle of another (probably embarrassing) story about Druig. Druig merely rolled his eyes and turned his attention elsewhere.
While they were talking, a few more groups had arrived, including a father and son that Druig soon recognized from photos Phastos had shared with them over dinner. He realized he'd been staring a little too late, as the father looked up and gave him a tentative wave and smile. Druig waved back as the man and son approached.
"Hi, we're here for the picnic," he explained.
"You've come to the right place. Ben, I presume?" Druig asked.
"Yup, and this is Jack! Say hello," Ben said, ushering the boy forward.
"Hello!" Jack greeted with the biggest smile.
"Hello, Jack. I'm Druig," he responded. The boy's eyes grew big at the sound of his name.
"My daddies talk about you all the time!" Jack said excitedly.
"Is that right?" Druig asked, an amused smile tugging at his lips.
"Jack, why don't you introduce yourself to the other kids?" Ben asked hurriedly. Jack was all too happy to zip ahead, making fast friends with Sprite's siblings. Ben turned back to Druig with a sheepish look. "I'm afraid the gossip has been too tempting to resist."
"It's alright. Phastos was quite upfront about who he shares all our secrets with," Druig remarked, drawing a chuckle from Ben.
"Well, then I have to ask. How's everything with Makkari?"
"Good. Things are good with Makkari."
"That's a relief! I was worried for a little while."
Just then, someone else caught Ben's eye. Druig followed his gaze back to Sersi and Dane, who were both laughing at something Steven had said.
"Is that…" Ben began to ask.
"Sersi and Dane? I can introduce you, if you like," Druig offered.
"That would be great!" Ben answered cheerily.
They walked over to the group and chatted pleasantly as the day wore on.
