It makes me sad to say this, but I keep forgetting that Akane is still in the group after all these years. She doesn't stand out at all. Miki and Maria have found a way of standing out, and so has Reina. I'm not even talking about the 15-16kies who are so charismatic. And the image of the cute little sister she's been portraying since her debut doesn't suit her at all any more. And hasn't for a long time. She should leave that to the younger members, especially as she's no longer the youngest. I

About Mizuki's graduation:

She tought about graduate in 2020 but because of COVID, it was difficult for her to make plans for the future. She will stay on as the leader of Hello! Project and Morning Musume until the 25th anniversary of H!P in 2023 and for the arrival of the 16ki

Mizuki will take a period of time off after her graduation to try and study new things and she hopes to be able to work in a job where she can utilise what she have learnt so far as much as possible.

She still has dreams for Morning Musume, but she will pass them on to the younger generation.

2017 Sousenkyo predictions v1.1

Update: it was brought to my attention that in her birthday Sasshi indicated she’ll probably run. So here are the 1.1 predictions:

It will be boring.

Total of votes for the entire event will be less than Sasshi alone got last year. (Maybe I’m exaggerating, but less than 300k seems likely.) Mostly people voting for the second tier so they keep their place, and for the less known and new members so that they get a piece of spotlight.

Media will give it very little coverage, since the conclusion is foregone.

Only interesting thing is, Jurina and Sayanee passing Mayu and Yukirin. Then again… interesting…ish. 😴

Basically, letting Sashihara run is sacrificing the 2017 ssk in favour of making 2018 more of a big deal. Which, you know, is not out of the question as far as 48G strategies go.

Or… crazy talk, but I’m more or more thinking there might not be one this year. Maybe they’ll come up with a different gimmick this time. Or there is a sousenkyo but the mechanics are completely different. Crazy talk, but we wouldn’t be following the 48G if it was predictable.

The original v1 is below if you’re curious.

It’s too early for sure, things will still change with the next batch of singles — sister groups and especially the AKB summer single which is the Big 48 — but I want to get this out of my head already. Also, isn’t it fun to post early, so that in June I can laugh at how wrong I was? 😂 (Or feel full of myself for how right I was, who knows.)

This is assuming a number of people who said they wouldn’t enter keep their words — especially Sasshi, Mayuyu, Miichan. As much as other people are rising, if Sasshi enters, I find it almost unthinkable anyone can beat her.

Anyway.

Top

First is Jurina or Sayanee. Almost certainly Jurina. Maybe Sakura but I don’t think so — only if she gets the Sasshi votes, and I don’t think she’s the kind the wota would get behind.

Yukirin will stick to her “almost there” curse.

Yokoyama will stick to the “soukantoku is a support role” curse.

Kami group will have almost no AKB, and I don’t see anyone showing up from nowhere to surprise us.

Jurina

Sayanee

Yukirin

Sakura

Dasu

Haruppi

Naachan ← this is where I think the wota vote will go, so she may even rank higher, let’s see how STU and Sasshi mentorship turn out

Kitarie ← also a good chunk of the wota vote

Senbatsu

Staples: Yuihan, Tomu, Mion, Juri. Yuihan definitely stays (unless she somehow doesn’t run), any of the others could drop.

Up from Undergirls: Kojimako, Chuuri, Komi, and/or Annin. I kind of expect Annin to rather drop, though.

Possible (but unlikely) surprises: Riripon, Katomina, Ha~nachan.

Maybe someone from team 8? I don’t know or care who, but maybe Oonishi who’s on the push wave right now.

Dark horses and new stars

Kinoshita: likely not to run, but if she does, straight to Undergirls.

Katomina: Undergirls.

Riripon: there’s no way she’s not at least Undergirls, she’s at scary levels right now. From unranked to #44, and now she has her own TV show? Come on.

NGT has (finally!) a new TV show, so someone will get discovered there and make a huge leap. Too early to tell who.

Manaka will be on the summer single, then proceed to rank higher than 45.

Zunchan debuts in Next or Undergirls. I’ve said it before, but that girl is a locomotive. Manaka is the new Jurina and Zunchan is the new Milky.

Vivian: ranks.

Murashige: doesn’t. Might not run. Might also murder Vivian in her sleep.

Chiyori: rises, but no idea how much.

Tani: back to Undergirls.

Surprises — I don’t think so but might happen

Riripon or Katomina in Senbatsu. Maybe (I kind of hope not) Ha~nachan. I might flip my desk if Hana enters senbatsu, and bear in mind my desk is next to the wall, so really hard to flip.

Yukirin doesn’t run.

Sakura wins.

Dasu beats Yukirin and Sakura.

Haruppi beats Sakura — but that might be juts me hoping. I think Lovetan and Sasshi votes are more likely to go to Haruppi than Sakura.

Naachan on top 4. Or, Naachan gets all the wota votes and takes 2nd, or even 1st. Depends on how STU turns out, I guess. (I know STU won’t have debuted yet, but we’ll see a lot of Naachan-Sasshi production collab until the voting, and that’s where the baton gets passed.)

Kitarie drops to Undergirls again as her votes go to new girls in NGT.

Sayanee doesn’t run. (Wat?)

Manaka or Zunchan on Undergirls. (Wat???)

Another 16ki ranks — Orin? Zukki? Satomina? (Obviously I want to see Maeda-sama rank, but that won’t happen. She’s the kind that rises slow.)

One or more of Tomu, Mion, Juri, Annin doesn’t run, or even announces graduation before then.

Someone ranks from NMB5ki. I’d bet on one of the imouto — Kei seems strong and Suzu seems to have a following from day 1.

Or the big one: they open participation to graduates again. I don’t see any graduate making senbatsu, but Yuuko, Mariko, maybe even Tomochin on Undergirls is a possibility. (No way Takamina will run.) More likely, we’ll have a graduates-only coupling song on the summer single.
