Dieser Mann ist der geborene Entertainer und eine Rampensau noch dazu. Die ersten Reihen liegen inm zu Füßen (we sure did). Danke

Research on Solarpunk
Today I am reading sources about the Solarpunk movement in order to write an article about it. I found those 3 sources that are very insightful:
This last source is particularly relevant as it is an academic paper that, among other things, shows how literary imaginaries influence real life social changes and build communities.
I also thought it was funny to see the same Tumblr post referenced in multiple articles, which goes to show how the internet can be a significant way to build a community.

Crazy dream. So I was this guy, a trained spy, cropped black hair, an easy smile, dressed in leather, 10 years in couple with this girl, Barbara, brown haired, plump lips, flat chested, who's an enhanced human (she was able to fly). Most people had super powers where I lived, but I didn't. So one day after work (Barbara worked in a high ens hotel), we met with our friends in a karaoke room of the hotel (with permission of course). So it start like this: the room is equipped with lights that make powers null for safety purposes. Except that my trained ass immediately saw this room full of part time superheroes (Barbs and her friends) now vulnerable and I kind of panicked. I went "you realize that if anyone attacks the only who can fight without superpowers is me, right ?" and sure I was well-built but officially I only knew basic self defense. And we were a dozen. They said "why would anyone attack us?" and there we went to sing. I didn't sing, I was on edge the whole time and then I said I'd go outside to breathe some fresh air - bc frankly it was getting way too loud with everyone getting drunk and stuff. So as I get to the entry hall, there are the two old ladies always sitting there. I greet them, they barely acknowledge me, the usual. Just before I get to the door, it opens and a lady, wavy blonde hair cut under the ear, with fur on her coat, gets in and says hello loudly, spinning a little, and then goes her way. I exchange a look with the old ladies and then get outside. As I walk to the parking lot, I seen another lady looking just like that first one. I think "Huh. Weird." but keep going, just more alert. Then I see another. And another. And I go combat mode. Something is seriously wrong. If it's someone with a duplication power...
I rush back. The old ladies are still there but they also look alarmed. (it's subtle, they're almost expressionless at all times). With that confirmation, I go back outside: I can't charge in alone without knowing what's going on. I disappear in the shadows and circle the building. There are the blonde lady everywhere. There are screams and sounds of fighting. I think: if their power is disabled then the ladies' will also disappear when she gets inside. But it doesn't. Everyone is outnumbered and overpowered. I keep watching from afar, evaluating what's going on as I can, and that's how I see her. Translucent, floating above the fountain in the garden, her black hair floating around her. She's smiling but it's cold and cruel. I recognize her. I don't remember her name now that I'm awake but I knew her. We'd met. She owned the hotel and the building where Barbs and I lived. I retreat.
Early in the morning of the next day, I go to the hotel, smiling like an idiot, officially here to pick up my girl. I smile and wave to the two old ladies who don't look like themselves but robot version. I pretend not to notice and greet them warmly and loudly, not paying attention to their lack of response, like usual. I walk down the halls like a happy idiot, humming to some tune, twirling my car key around my finger. I get to the room where Barbs and her friends where partying when they got attacked and knock. There's noise inside but no one answers. I open the door. Everyone is still there but they're. Objects or animals. Wrong looking. I recognize some of them, the others I'm not sure. I see Barbs. I don't say anything. I must keep looking like a helpless powerless idiot. I say something like "Huh. They must have left", scratch my head and turn back. I'm about to close the door behind me when She appears right in front of me. "Oh, Miles," she greets me. "What a pleasant surprise, I haven't seen you in a while." and I say "yeah, hi! I'd been meaning to contact you, by the way, regarding some.. stuff that's been going on. See, Barbs and I, well we decided we'd separate." I scratch my head again and give her an easy smile. I know She likes me a lot, and she frowns at what I say, I can tell she's angry. "Oh dear, I'm so sorry to hear that, are you okay?" she' s not sorry at all. She's seething. She eyes the place where Object Barbara is. I wonder if Barbara can hear me as she is. Regardless I have to keep going. My life depends on it. "Oh yeah," I answer, "we still get along, it was a mutual decision, but we decided it'd be better, for the kids and stuff.." She smiles sympathetically before she gets the implications. "So yeah, we're gonna be moving away." She looks even angrier somehow, yet her face does not budge, stuck on a pleasant smile. I say to her basically we'll be gone from our flat in a week tops. She asks if we need help to move and I say it's fine, that it's basically all packed already. Then I make a move like I'm going to go but then change my mind. I move toward her and lower my tone like I'm saying a secret. I say something along the lines of "could you maybe... let Barbs keep working here despite her not living there anymore?", her face lights up (it's fake) and she dismisses it with a move of her hand. "oh of course, it goes without saying!". I thank her, give her a wink, and go my merry way.
There isn't personnel left in the hotel. Everyone has been turned into a fucked up looking animal or an object, not any less fucked up looking.
Idk how I saw that? But I saw Her at her home, taking care of a Fucked Up Duck. Like. Blue and flat, plastic looking. Still floating on water, still saying Kwak, but her eyes so human looking. Clearly a kid. So cute. So heartbreaking. She feeds Baby Duck, She caresses her gently. She talks to her softly. Then She gives it a little sweet kiss and gets up, smoothing Her black straight skirt, and walks away. She goes down a dark hallway and goes inside a room full of vivarium. In each (and there's a lot), there is a different fucked looking insect. She feeds them, takes one or two on Her finger.
I am back to my apartment building. It's empty. There are weird insects everywhere. There was no traffic on the way. I understand She plans on changing everyone. I don't get why She let me go. But I'll definitely take advantage of it.
I made sure to throw away all my belongings and hurriedly packed all of Barbara's, then I hid. I disappeared from public sight. In truth, I was staying in the other flats in my building. I had to stay close to keep an eye on things. It did not make things easy but I had ways out. She did come to check whether I told the truth. When She left, She looked both satisfied and frustrated.
She kept sending her goons in the various apartments. Did She look for me? Probably. Did she suspect something from me? I had no idea. It turned into a mockery of hide and seek, where I had to constantly evade the scrutiny of Her Fucked Up robots and machinery.
At some point, She and I were the only last humans in the city. The city was closed off. I couldn't find help, I shouldn't expect any. Our color was blue. The most powerful neighbor was Red. We also were next to Green, and Yellow was a little farther. Did they know what was up?
She stayed in the hotel. It was Her castle, Her headquarters. I knew I had no choice but to try something there. I managed to get inside. The old ladies, still Fucked Up, were still there. They didn't react, their hands still. She had gone away to Her house so I had mostly free access to everything. I only had to avoid Her Fucked Up goons and machinery. Easy. I got to Her office cleanly. It was messier than I had expected. Her desk was positioned right by the window, so She could see outside when working. Nice for me to control my surroundings. I started ruffling through Her stuff. Nothing of note, nothing telling me how to undo Her curse. I found a little toy mirror. I picked it up and it trembled in my hand. Oh. It was someone. Used to be. I shushed it, promised I'd help. My eyes scanned the desk with even more fervor. I had no way to know what object was someone and what object wasn't. But the little mirror was. I found a plastic crown clearly meant to be attached to something (it had a plastic part to be inserted). I eyed the mirror. They were the same size but the mirror did have a hole where the crown could fit. In a hurry, as I heard steps outside the door, I put it in. Mirror buzzed again. It now was a proper mirror, golden and ornamented. Its eyes opened and it told me "My power is to give someone a power when they hold me and say my name." The voice was feminine. I asked what the name was and she answered "Winx". They were unlocking the door. So I walked over to the window, looked down at the three stories fall that awaited me. I held Winx in my hand and said: "Winx: flying" and jumped. It worked. I was able to fly. There was a lot of wind and as it was my first time flying, I had a lot of trouble. An umbrella was flying near me so I grabbed it and used it to hide my body from sight. I asked Winx to give me invisibility and she said "Not a good idea." I looked down and understood that she could only give one power at a time. If she gave me invisibility, I'd crash down. "Right, let's not," I told her. But someone saw me. And I hit a tree. In my surprise, I let go of the umbrella and Winx to grab the branches so I wouldn't get impaled. The umbrella flew away with Winx inside. Now that I wasn't touching her, I couldn't communicate with her anymore. "People" were pointing at me and coming after me. I had to get away before She got there. I went down to the ground and ran like hell. I evaded everyone and managed to reach the spot where the umbrella had touched ground. I grabbed Winx and asked for invisibility. Boom, I disappeared. I went missing again. The searches intensified: it became harder and harder to hide but now I had Winx on my side, providing me the powers needed each time to escape or be undetectable.
She was definitely after me: because I took Winx? because I was the last human in her controlled realm? I had no way of knowing but Winx had some insight to offer. Having been turned into an object, she knew what it was and what it did. She told me that the object I called Fucked Up were indeed incomplete: if I offered them something and they accepted, they'd regain some of their human attributes. In her case, communication and her senses. The people that mostly seemed like people still might become human again. She didn't know anymore but this was bette than anything I'd gotten so far.
I did such excursions again and again, planned each time better than the last, leaving less and less traces. I collected objects from various rooms, the ones that reacted when I touched them. Not all of them accepted anything I gave them. For some of them it was enough to say hello. For some - a doll and a pen - a kiss did the trick. Others I had to find something they'd lost. The others I had no way of knowing and no matter what I tried it wasn't enough.
I had saved around a dozen of small objects and they were "living" in the various empty apartments of the building I still hung around in.
One of them (the pen) used to work in the backstage of the hotel and knew all kinds of passages: including some to reach Red country. Carrying Pen and Winx with me, I went through the passageway. I reached a corridor with hm. labels? on doors (like, not on the door but sticking out? like a label you put on a book to keep your page?), in that corridor I encountered a man. A real man, not a Fucked up one. He was well dressed, his light brown hair combed back. He greeted me when he saw me. I asked him where he was from and he said Red. I said I'm from Blue, which alarmed him immediately, confirming what I suspected and they knew what was going on. He informed me that it was now a purpler blue than before, which I had noticed on the labels. He took me to a Red door and made me go through the border. Now that I had been authorized, I could go through the border on my own whenever I wanted until they revoked my authorization. It'd be useful to flee when needed.
He told me they didn't know anything except that She had taken over and the population had disappeared. I told him she had changed them into objects and the only way to bring them back somewhat was to offer them something and they accepted. He said "Damn..." and I was like "I know, right". Anyway we became allies and later tentative friends as our meetings accumulated. His name started with R (my brain offers me Raul and Russel but I think it wasn't any of these). Thanks to him, I got a lot more help and ressources. We contacted Yellow and Green. Green refused to help but Yellow was less on the fence about it, attending our strategy meeting in one of the common room of the border corridor.
One day as I was in the common Purple-Blue/Red/Yellow room with R and a Yellow ambassador, the Purple-Blue door opened to let Her come in, followed by a tracking machinery. While Yellow ambassador distracted her (he greeted her, talked to her about what she was doing there etc etc etc), R rushed me to a side room and told me to hide. There was literally only a table and a closet. He opened the closet for me so I went in. I could hear Her voice. She was saying that she was following a runaway and that her best hunting hound (the Fucked Up machine) had lead her there. They said oh that's regrettable, we'll look with you. So they let the hound do its job and followed it from room to room until it stopped right near the table I was hidden under (yeah I had moved from the closet to there bc it'd be easier to run without being seen from the under the table. they'd definitely spot a closet door opening :v). It beeped at it mistress and She asked what it was. It beeped sadly or confusedly. It kept scanning me but nothing showed up. It knew I was there but I wasn't. (big thanks to Winx for that) and so R looked under and said "there's nothing there" (he still thought I was in the closet, he didn't know about Winx) and so the Yellow ambassador checked as well and confirmed. So She leaned to look. She was staring straight at me without being able to see me. Still, I was pretty shaken. I held my breath, not moving a muscle, not moving a single hair, knowing anything would give me out. She came back up and the machine beeped insistently that I was there for real and She leaned back but still didn't see me. She inhaled sharply and thanked the two men, saying they needed to notify her if any Purple-Blue man was seen anywhere in the corridor rooms. They assured her they would.
I came out of under the table when I was sure they were far (they accompanied her back) and I ran like hell out of there, still invisible.
I turned the old ladies back at some point. They still appeared somewhat robotic but she blended in the background so well, everyone was so accustomed to them being there not moving nor saying anything that no one noticed a thing. They did spare me a glance, the only way I knew they were truly back, but they kept behaving like they were still Fucked Up. They didn't want to move.
I woke up as I was turning everyone from Barbara's friend group back.
For the stats: a man named Miles

NCIS 21x05 & NCIS Hawaii 03x05
NCIS & NCIS Hawaii are back after their break, & NCIS Sydney has renewed for Season 2! Before I proceed, I must inform everyone about Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsing on Tuesday, March 26th. (If this happened in the NCIS mothership universe, then we'd have another big disaster.)
Highlight of NCIS 21x05 — I found this episode very interesting because of all the Chinese operatives present & random conversations in Mandarin Chinese (although most people had slight accents). While most people were excited about Jessica's dad making his debut, I was more interested in the case because we have another a foreign scientist forced to build a bioweapon & defy ethics. Other than that, I found this online DNA test scene pretty funny because if you've learned nothing from Abby & Kasie over the years in the forensics lab, then you need to watch other TV shows instead. This is literally Biology 101!
Highlight of NCIS Hawaii 03x05 — This episode startled me at first because the crowd of protesters came out of nowhere when NCIS was escorting some (in)famous Russian businesswoman. Everyone else that flew to Hawaii for Pacific Summit must've felt uneasy. All I can say is that family is complicated, especially when it comes to inheriting a shady family business. Instead of detonating a real bomb, the perpetrator planted a paint bomb in a backpack using Pantone Red 32 to imitate blood.

BBC Panel Event on Climate Change
On Thursday, 07 March 2024, members of the Climate and Science BBC team will held a discussion with students on the media’s role in raising climate change awareness. I attended the Q and A panel, here are a few questions that I thought were particularly interesting.
What are the main challenges?
Simply getting the article out there. A lot of people didn’t used to think that climate change was newsworthy. Why report on something that has been happening for a long time, that isn’t news. 15 years ago, you would have needed to explain what a carbon footprint is and what it means. Now, most people know that.
What role does social media play in the debate?
Social media is useful when you follow the right people, but it can become a bunch of echo chambers.
What answer should you give to people who argue that climate change is not real or not as bad as scientists say it is?
I would question the need to answer at all. It can be very time consuming and very tiresome to spend time arguing with people who have stock answers ready to counter any argument you could make. There are people who call themselves ‘lukewarmers’. They say that climate change isn’t as bad as it seems. On the other side of the spectrum, you have the ‘doomers’, who think that all hope is lost. To make sure you’re not leaning towards one side or the other, anchor yourself in science.
Climate change can be a source of depression and anxiety. How do you deal with that?
The answer would be to show positive sides and write articles about the solutions people are finding. The BBC is trying to focus more on solutions to keep people interested and engaged. Nevertheless, climate change keeps being an issue that is deemed very important to the audience of the BBC.
(This is not an exact transcript, I wrote this from my notes right after the talk.)
Afterwards, I attended a lecture that was given by BBC’s Climate Editor Justin Rowlatt about ‘the most important topic of our time’. The talk began with a list of problems caused by climate change, such as melting glaciers, global temperature rising, and the rise of sea levels. It was also highlighted that this February was the 9th month in a row with record high temperatures. Rowlatt then made the case that we were reaching a tipping point, not in negative consequences, but a tipping point in social actions. According to him, there were signs that things were going in the right direction. First, he mentioned energy. While 80% of energy still comes from fossil fuels, those energies are getting harder and harder to reach, whereas renewable energies such as solar and wind are now ‘the cheapest option’. Indeed, he explained that ‘global investment in renewables exceeded global investment in fossil fuels in 2023’. According to Rowlatt, ‘the renewable revolution has become unstoppable’. He also celebrated the fact that the electric vehicles sales are booming, which he believes shows a change in the market.
After the talk, the public was able to ask questions. One of the last questions was asked by a student. She mentioned how young people get their news differently compared to previous generations, with an important role of social media. She asked if the BBC was aware of this and what they were doing to reach younger generations. Rowlatt confirmed that the BBC knew about that fact, and he (jokingly?) answered that young people should read more articles. He added that the BBC did have social media but he thought that short clips were limiting in terms of how much content could be shared, and that there was no certain way to know how well they would do in advance.
When questioned about his opinion on Barclays involvement with fossil fuels, he replied that we, as a society, are all complicit since we are all part in this society. It seemed to me a hypocritical comment. It reminded me of this comic:
Tumblr media
He justified himself by saying that the people, the politicians, and the oil companies are all working hand in hand and since we live in this society it means that we are supporting the sort of investment that Barclays is doing in fossil fuels. He explained that what the oil companies are doing is completely legal and that singling out a specific company was no use. While he might not have been able to voice his own opinion because of the need to stay impartial within the BBC as a journalist, he did not have a solution for this particular problem.
After I left the talk, I felt angry without knowing the reason. As I talked to my flatmate about it, I realized why. I gave her the example of a comment that was made during the first panel. Elon musk was mentioned, and multiple speakers talked positively about him and his work toward renewable energy. This was surprising to me, as I have a very bad image of the billionaire. These two points of views a representative of two generations that don’t perceive things the same way. The sort of sustainability that Rowlatt was praising is not about changing the world or creating a new one. It's about keeping the status quo while surviving. A sort of green capitalism. I don't share this vision as I am more partial to trying to fix social injustices as the same time as fixing the planet.

Superliminal
Forgot to add this yesterday but I played half of it yesterday and the rest of it today.
This was TVGP's Game Club game for the month.
I watched the playthrough of this on Game Grumps so I knew a few of the puzzles. Watching it and playing it were pretty different experiences though.
It gave me chills a few times throughout playing it.
Balatro
Won a run with the Green Deck. Spare Trousers Joker (+2 mult for each two-pair played) made my favorite hand super strong. Got a ton of money from green deck to buy a ton of booster packs until I got the Bootstraps Joker (+2 mult for every $5) and just saved. Got a Mr. Bones Joker (spare life if within 25% of goal) with Polychrome.
Spoilers for Avatar (LA) below
Avatar: the Last Airbender
Episode 3: Omashu & Episode 4: Into the Dark
Starts off with Azula tricking resistance fighters into their doom. Ozai and Azula find out the Avatar is alive. The Gaang make it to Omashu where they meet Jet, the freedom fighters, Sai, and Teo. Sokka spends time with Sai, learning about engineering. Aang spends time with Teo, finding out that the freedom fighters are responsible for blowing things up. Katara spends time with Jet, learning how to use the past to fuel the future. Zuko and Iroh arrive in Omashu. The Gaang try to stop the freedom fighters from blowing up Sai and Teo in front of the King. Zuko stops Aang and causes a scene that eventually gets Aang and Iroh captured.
Thankful they didn't spend as much time on Katara x Jet than they did with Suki x Sokka. I kinda liked how they smushed all of these characters into one location. Like the rest of the casting, the Freedom Fighters casting was amazing.
Starts off with a flashback to Aang and Bumi meeting in Omashu. The flash forward to Aang and Iroh in jail. Iroh gets taken for transport to The Pit while Aang gets taken to the King. Katara dumps Jet. Sokka convinces Sai to assist them getting Aang back and rat his Fire Nation contacts out to the Earth kingdom. Zuko goes to break Iroh out. Katara and Sokka find the ~Secret Tunnel~ (+the hippies). While in there they fight and anger a badgermole and they find out they have to love to not have it angry. Iroh is harassed by soldiers and he reminisces about his son. Aang goes through "challenges" set by Bumi ultimately leading to them fighting. Aang gets caught in a choice between killing Bumi or killing himself but is saved by Katara and Sokka. Zuko saves Iroh from the soldiers.
Leaves from the Vine
I don't really like Bumi in this adaptation. I think they tried too hard to keep him the same but didn't successfully toe the line with their changes. I think it might have been better to not change Bumi at all or made Bumi into the general who forced Aang into the Avatar state.
