Colorado Potato Beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata) Parthenice Tiger Moth (Apantesis parthenice), and Spider Wasp (Priocnemis spp.)! My first wasp so far, I couldn't resist the blue. Slowly working myself up to spiders so I can draw them as they deserve! Bugs referenced from INaturalist with photos by brickman and ericgiles respectively, and the Spider Wasp from InsectIdentification.org.

@mars0fthe5tars submitted: Me again! Here's the second batch of nice bugs. These were also found in Central Virginia, I would love to know their names. I hope you enjoy these nice bugs!

I enjoy them deeply!!! First fellow is a green lacewing. Nice little predators to have around. Photo two is one of the tiger moths in the genus Apantesis, maybe a parthenice tiger moth. The third pal is a wheel bug, which is a type of assassin bug. Harmless unless handled carelessly, they can give a pretty painful defensive jab with their mouth tube. The next one is a walnut sphinx and the last is a polyphemus moth :)

I’ll start this blog of with one of my favorite finds, a Parthenice Tiger Moth (Apantesis parthenice). I love the pattern on this moth, it looks almost like a skeleton.
